This is probably one of the best vids ever! I applied it to a mix and realized it was missing thickness and presence, so threw on 300 hz and 1k. Then I went in to individual tracks to apply it to the ones that needed it. Now it sounds so much better and fuller! This is actually a good process for mixing a song. It’s like top down mixing but rather than keeping the moves on the master bus you do it to figure out what the song needs then apply it to the tracks within
You're the best music production channel on UA-cam, I'm a guitar player and I've basically started recording and putting music together to help me improve as a player, I am certainly not a music producer however I am having SO much fun learning and practicing in a daw. It's making me a better musician.
Hello from Ukraine 🤘You have great tutorial videos on your channel for beginners. I downloaded the "cheatsheet" and saved the whole playlist with "magic frequencies" in order to record new material in a better way. Thanks for such informative content 💙💛
I did a mix of our coverband (pop songs) and the results were not strong. I decided to start over and just almost religiously followed the mix cheat sheet and it got me so much farther in maybe 30 minutes then all the time spent previously. It was also a real learning experience as it helped me pinpoint and remedy problems I just wouldn't know how to fix previously. Really cool to realise, thans a lot!
No, your not the only one still using that eq. I use it last on my lead vocals, to add anything I mite want to add back in. It as a sound, its warm, and broad!! I like it..
Maaaannnnn, what a huge difference!!! That song just came alive and warm at the end!!! Great movements!! Another great videos as always!!! Greatings from Brazil!! 🤘🔥
I really love these series as long as you listen and then decide to do these moves knowing where to search for that specific feel or sound really helps for getting faster at eqing
Old habits die hard, I guess. It just gets the job done and why change a routine that works well and has for many years? It's also a full channelstrip. So I would say it's a different tool in the toolbox. Pro Q3 is great for analyzing details and has a totally different interface. In terms of sound quality, I can't hear much difference. They are both great EQs. Sorry for the cliché answer. But just use what ever you feel comfortable with and get awesome at what you do. ☺️🙏 All the best.
Not afraid to admit I use the R EQ on every one of my mixes. It always gets the job done when I'm looking for a semi transparent EQ to quickly make adjustments
Thanks for this great series of magic frequencies! Have you planned a series on the magic compression techniques for each instrument (parallel compression on the drum bus, how to compress a kick/snare/tom/bass/vocal, artistic pump, side-chain kick-bass, etc.)? That would be wonderful!
Great tips. Id also add in a sub bass roll off as it can tighten up the low end even after considerable boosts on individual elements like kick drum, bass gtr, etc.
I still use REQ sometimes - it's a good one all these years later. Apparently part of the inspiration for the Manley Massive Passive(says Bob Olhsson) Yowza.
Always the best videos on yt, but please Jordan tell us what are the songs you make us hear! Now i need to find out what is the song you cut the basement range on😂😂
A good idea when checking reference tracks is to just make it so your mix would at least FIT IN on a playlist of similar music. Doesn't have to sound identical, but on a playlist of similar music it shouldn't stand out like a sore thumb.
When the bass region in the whole mix is too low, it sounds like it “hangs in the air”, despite having steady sub and low mid and upper. 250 Hz and there around is very important. I hear big label mixes where they have busted up this bass frequency area, because they wanted to give the kick-drum it all.
haha! nope, you're not the only one using that EQ...I love all the Renaissance stuff, and I use the "old" skin version too lol...just used to it I guess. By the way, I need to tell you how much I love the refresh you've given your brand over the last year...I actually dropped off following for a bit because it seemed like you might have been just getting burned out a smidge, but lately it seems like you've gotten a "second wind" and I'm just loving all your new content...plus the look, feel and editing of the videos has totally been jacked to a whole new level too!
I wonder how many pro audio engineers treat frequencies like actual notes, because that's what they are right? Like wouldn't a mix sound more harmonized and musical if you apply this logic? Example: If you want to boost the midrange octave and the song is in the key of D, why boost 1khz and not 1175hz? Because that's a D, whereas 1khz is like a flat C. It's just a thought I had recently and haven't really experimented with it myself yet (I'm an amateur anyway).
Hi, dear Mr. Hardcore :) Ty so much, I though to ask if you could kindly make a vid on this: - What is the list of plugins that a producer 100% should have in their kit.
Great tips! But if I was to send my mix out to a mastering engineer, would I apply these cuts and boosts? Is it easier for the ME or wouldn't doing so limit his/her options?
No joke. That was impressive. Subbed and DL’d the cheat sheet. And thank you for being all thriller no filler. No fat or added sugars in your videos. Respect 🫡
Should these tips be applied to my EQ when I’m tracking? I’m new to DAW life; will be getting my tracks mixed by someone else, but curious how much of this mix wisdom should be applied to tracking. I’m using an Apollo Twin X and am experimenting with what it can do. I like to record the stems with some juice already on it to etch it in stone rather than record “clean” tracks. Really appreciate your insights.
At the end are you not A/B-ing 2 items with distinctly different volumes? Would you not need to gain match on/off first to understand if you were changing the tone rather than volume?
1:03 Yeah EVERY video I watch they use the fabfilter eq.... I'm not crazy about fabfilter, it has the best usability and interface, but I find it is cpu hungry for basic effects.
I would watch out with that song. It sounds exactly like agent orange, blood stains and they really like to sue. They sued the offspring for having a lead that sounded similar.
If you are a beguinner pls dont take these tips as rules or what u have to do. They are just ideas thought to guide u in the right direction. experiment and play around with it. Happy mixing
BOOST
80Hz - get thump!
150 - 400Hz (go really broad) - thickness!
1k - upfront!
5k - aggresive brightness!
12k - airy brightness!
CUT
100-400Hz (cut with narrower Q) - MUD!
600 - 900Hz - BASEMENT SOUND!
3 - 4 kHz - HARSHNESS!
my guy 👍
thank you!!
Thank you!

Those were some surprisingly powerful little EQ moves right there, this may be the best magic frequency video yet dude
U're the absolute Best!!!

Thanks for being balanced in how you present info. It’s concrete enough to grasp, but flexible enough to understand in a realistic context.

It would be useful to add this Mix Buss category to your existing Cheat Sheet, which by the way, is fantastic 👍
No, your not the only one still using that eq. I use it last on my lead vocals, to add anything I mite want to add back in. It as a sound, its warm, and broad!! I like it..
I'm not at all a metal guy but the amount of really GOOD songs I'm hearing on your channel is ridiculous. Your doing great work. Oh, and good video.
To find this general tone, is great to use the buses of each group of sounds, great content loco!
Maaaannnnn, what a huge difference!!! That song just came alive and warm at the end!!! Great movements!! Another great videos as always!!!
Greatings from Brazil!! 🤘🔥
Dude, I have learned so much from these magic, frequency videos. And a lot of your other videos.
Renaissance EQ is the GOAT. I always use it to this day more than any other EQ
I really love these series as long as you listen and then decide to do these moves knowing where to search for that specific feel or sound really helps for getting faster at eqing
Man keep up these magic frequencies videos they’ve been a huge help with my mixes lately! Huge help!
The RenEQ was a staple for all of us that made records on our TDM rigs. Still a great sounding EQ that was way ahead of its time!
Such a great presentation, clean straightforward and easy to understand
REQ is my heavy duty workhorse EQ lol, been using it daily for 12 years now. Awesome vid as always!
Matric Halo Channelstrip, here. For 15 years... 😉
Any reason you prefer it over something like Pro Q3, or the various alternatives?
Old habits die hard, I guess. It just gets the job done and why change a routine that works well and has for many years? It's also a full channelstrip. This is the best channel for amateur mixers. I've learned so much from you and my mixes sound so much better since i started watching you. Thank you!
Wow, those last 3 EQ moves made that mix come alive! Great video, I'll be using these tips :)
Still using Req here. Works great, no need to overcomplicate digital eqs. Not a fan of fabfilter either.
Bro please make a video how to mix punk rock vocals with fx doubles delays and other tips and tricks. BTW these magic frequencies videos are Gold!
This is an incredible video every upcoming mixing engineer should see.
This is mine blowing to improve any mix. Weldone!
Real great video. Perfect examples to explain the different frequenzy boosts /cuts.
Night and day improvement with those small moves. Wow, great video.
Not afraid to admit I use the R EQ on every one of my mixes. It always gets the job done when I'm looking for a semi transparent EQ to quickly make adjustments
This is pure gold. Thank you for sharing this! I'm relatively new to mixing and this was super helpful. Subbed.
Keep those sick beats coming! Your channel is my musical haven! 🎧❤
wow I'm huge fan of this series, very glad to see new magic frequency video arrived on this channel
Great stuff, really helpful, night and day difference! Thanks again
these are the best series ! super awesome ! now can't wait for magicfrequencies for cymbals !

very good detail, looking forward to using the technique kudos!
your channel is pure gold! thank you
Man I love this series, thank you so much!
Also why do I get the feeling someone in that first band REALLY likes the Black Album? 😅
dude the brightness section sounds like a nu metal soundgarden. i kinda like it
Brilliant, clear and insightful as always...
Gracias Bro Saludos Desde Louisiana The best channel ever even dought Im not Rock fan I"ve learn a lot
Incredibly valuable demonstration dude! Many thanks!
Actually, this is amazing! I mean, example in the end of video, it proof everything! Sorry for my bad english
Excellent presentation.Subscribed.🤘
Just watching these magic frequency videos helps with ear training...
I still use REQ sometimes - it's a good one all these years later. Apparently part of the inspiration for the Manley Massive Passive(says Bob Olhsson) Yowza.

Jordan, your're awesome. This improved my mix a lot. Thanks for your content! :)
You are a life saver, thank you very much🙏
2:31 that little move was mindblowing to me! wtf
That was very helpful, thank you!
Damn that was a MASSIVE difference with just 3 bands of an old parametric eq. No pultecs or other shiny toys. Really eye opening
I love your work!
Excellent explanations. Thank you.
A good idea when checking reference tracks is to just make it so your mix would at least FIT IN on a playlist of similar music. Doesn't have to sound identical, but on a playlist of similar music it shouldn't stand out like a sore thumb.

Tried these areas instant difference!
You're not the only one left using the Renaissance EQ... just the only one left using that skin 🤮😝🤑
Amazing as ususal. And not my friend, you're not the only one using that EQ. That's my favorite EQ and I use it in all my tracks ;)
I LOVE that EQ....Use it all the time
Thanks for sharing your knowledge, great content

IM LEARNNING ALOOOOTTTTTTTT
THANK YOU
Super great video!!!!

your videos and knowledge is great....... do you ever use hip hop in your mixing?
Hi, dear Mr. Hardcore :)
Ty so much, I though to ask if you could kindly make a vid on this:
- What is the list of plugins that a producer 100% should have in their kit.
awesomoe info man.
might be the best example I seen
Great tips! But if I was to send my mix out to a mastering engineer, would I apply these cuts and boosts? Is it easier for the ME or wouldn't doing so limit his/her options?
great advice
Great vid! Song from 3:55? I mean the upfront part
That cut around 3K did wonders - it kinda removed the chainsaw in the background 😮
4:54 pretty nice song
What's that band around 4 minutes?
@OReitmeier It's this song, apparently - - all I could find. ua-cam.com/video/ZqLnzI_t2EY/v-deo.html
No joke. That was impressive. Subbed and DL’d the cheat sheet. And thank you for being all thriller no filler. No fat or added sugars in your videos. Respect 🫡
dynamic plugins make it easy for this kind of job
Please please please, what are the songs in this video? Two of them sound awesome.
The song used in the first EQ move is "You Live Or You Die" by Three-Armed Scissors
Notice this Renaissance eq auto-dips before a boost. Most eq's don't do this!
that's nice of you pointing that out.
Awesome 👌

Warren Huart uses that Renaissance EQ
I love you.
Eric Valentine is also using that eq.:}
Shouldn´t this also be partly the job mastering process in maybe semi pro mixes?
Just to do a little adjustments to improve a mix?
Wouldn't you rather just go fix this stuff in the mix vs the entire track? or is this for if you get a track to master?
1:03 Yeah EVERY video I watch they use the fabfilter eq.... I'm not crazy about fabfilter, it has the best usability and interface, but I find it is cpu hungry for basic effects.

Very Helpful btw you look like Phil from Modern Family
Great
💥💥💥
How would I set up a mix bus exactly?
Ever since I got Kirchhoff I don’t use any other EQs
That lapel has a clip, you don't have to hold it.
