I wish every bike mechanic was so thorough as Andreas, the detail at 18:56 gave me a tear of joy 😅
I could move to Montreal just to get my bike serviced from him 😬
Ahahah yes!!!!!!!! I don't know ANY mechanic who has such attention to details like Andreas
and then he starts wraping bartape at the top -_-
@@kosskrit Wrapping from the top is just fine.
I always ride my bicycle with right brake for the front wheel, and the left brake for the rear wheel. The reason is simple: I also ride motorcycles, and this is the way they are all set up. After a while, it becomes a reflex. A lot of my cycling riding buddies find this to be a little bit awkward, but honestly it is absolutely the first thing I ever change on my bike!
Good to know! Yeah it's definitely a good idea to have the same brakes as motorcycle!
Same! There is nothing scarier than jumping than pulling the "wrong" brake lever... lol
The reason I prefer rear brake on right because I'm a motorcycle rider. I always engage rear brake first to slowdown.. and engage both to fully stop and always engage rear brake when at a complete stop.
Since both brakes on the motorcycle are on the right side... it becomes a natural for me to use right hand the most for braking and rear brake is the most brake I used.
@@bobtahar For me this seems very counterintuitive as fas motorcycles go, since rear brake has way less power than the front. I ride a sport-oriented bike, where you have to step (and I mean really step) on the front brake when you want to stop immediately, otherwise you will be in a world of pain. Rear brake in this case is only for support (if I had to say, I would say no more than 20%), since the weight of motorcycle is forward-biased, and since most bikes have 2 large front discs in comparison to 1 small rear disc.
@@dzrdza he is correct. I often tell people buying new bikes that the rear brake is to slow down, the front brake is to stop. You have the use them both to stop safely, too much back and you skid, too much front and your over the bars.
"Most things are simple, you just have to think about it" Classique sagesse d'Andréas!
yes!!!
Merci les gars pour cette super vidéo !
That Hambini spin test made me crack up lol
ahah xD
@@CharlesOuimet Crank seems to be dragging no?
@@PineappleMonkey It should swing as a pendulum, but it doesn't
Since the beginning of the video I already like Andreas, but when he mentioned Hambini i like him even more. Cheers to Andreas! lol
Yes!!!
I just fairly recently (a couple years ago) heard of starting at the top of the bar for the wrap after well over 30 years of riding. I decided to try it after my tape came loose after a couple of days of very wet gravel rides. Of course the bar tape was coming unraveled. Luckily, it was the last day and near the end of the ride. I've since adopted it on my road bike too. I think it is a better way to do it. The only draw back is the tape overlaps so that the exposed edge is pushed against while you are on the hoods. It hasn't really been an issue though.
good to know man!! Thanks for sharing
The way he cuts the fork is simply amazing!!! Good job bro 👍👍🔝
He's a pro!!!
Andreas is a top quality mechanic!!
Yes!!
Wousshh belle machine!
Congratzz 🍻
yaa mannnn thanks!
I think this is the most beautiful gravel bike I have ever seen!
it is indeed amazing!
I moved to Quebec from UK and have always ridden right brake at front for the last 20 years. But after living the last few years in Quebec I really wish the world was on one sytem. I tried renting a fat bike out here with the brakes switched and ive never had so many crashes in 90minutes. Plus its a bummer for trying out new bikes as nobody wants to swap brakes over for a demo day. Thanks for the good vids
Thank you! Just gotta get used to it!!
That bike is so lit🔥 Charles, damn i wish i can ride one someday.
Thanks John!! It's indeed VERY HOT
Just got my Canyon Grizl SLX with the Ekar groupset as well. Love it so far !
Nice dude!!!
what a beautiful bike!!
it is :)
Pignon sur Roue! Mon bikeshop!! Good job!
Merci 🤙
In Australia rear brake is always on the left and front on right. Most countries that have right hand drive cars and drive on the left side of road, the bikes were set up that way so when riding and using hand signals for turning etc you would be using your right hand to do so. So being set up this way you had use of rear brake and not front.
Ohh really!! Good to know the reason why
I would disagree. Im from KL, Malaysia and most ppl here set their rear brake on right lever. I would think reason for this is that most ppl are right handed so it makes it more intuitive to have rear on right; otherwise you might endo if you press hard on front brakes.
Nothing to do with right hand drive cars i think.
@@shazwankamel2187 so if you are giving a hand signal with your right hand(which you should be if you are riding on left side of road) you will be braking with front brakes if need be. Good luck with that.
Awesome bike build video and UA-cam channel. You have really nice content and I'm glad I can subscribe.Safe cycling.💯👌✌
Thank man!!
“We forgot” Come on Charles… don’t leave us hanging, weigh that beast!!! 🚲🚲🚲
AHAH SORRY!!
Regarding steerer tubes that are cut improperly, Andreas says..."It happens often." Pause giving viewers time to worry Andreas is a sketchy charlatan. Andreas then adds..."BUT NOT TO ME!" Everyone breathes a sign of relief. 🤣🤣🤣 Best moment in video!!!
ahahah yes!!!!!
lol Hambini spin. very cool bike. subscribed to Andreas' channel.
Cool!
Salute Charles beautiful Bike 🙏👍🔥🇵🇷💯
Salute!!!
Even in Europe, we don't normally wrap handlebar tape from top to bottom. This technique comes mainly from the days of fabric handlebar tapes. But yes, it can be interesting even today :)
I still like it :)
In the U.K. and yes, front is right. I hired a bike to ride up mount teide in Tenerife and it was the other way around. Oh my god the scariest descent ever, I ended up just grabbing both brakes all the way down! Teide is massive too! I could barely grip anything the next day 🤣🤣🤣
Aahah good!! I want to go to Tenerife so bad!!!
Very nice. I just built an Ekar bike up too. Surprised you got away with skipping the bleed. I had a bunch of bubbles. Also Surprised you kept the cable to the rear derailleur so long. Especially on a gravel bike I worry about catching that on a passing branch.
Thanks! Yeah that could be a problem, but longer cables means smoother shift!
Such a nice video with all the comments. It’s refreshing compare to all the bike builds with only music
Thank you!! I know those bike build with music are not very usefull for information..!
@@CharlesOuimet Yes, not very useful but oddly satisfying
Andreas is the best!!!
Agreed!
You may be using grease now, but with the bearing cups being pressed into bare carbon, you will likely have to put retaining compound and activator in there eventually as the resin gets deformed by the stresses of pedaling. The PTFE grease he's using is great for first installs, but probably won't be supportive enough later on.
good to know! Thanks
great looking bike.
Indeed!!
As frustrating as 3T can be I still love my Strada! 😍
ahah yes it's a great looking bike!!
I'm thinking about getting one, why are they frustrating?
17:40 Love mechanical shifting.
the mechanic is reaaly good! one tiny little thing forgotten. you should remove those plastic caps from crank arms. 3t frame does not work with it on the left side. it just scrubs the paint under load, thanks to vroomen design -_____-
great video. when are you going to do a in depth review off the 3T and campy ekar parts. curious how it compares to sram/shimano
campy at the end of this year for sure!!
Bar tape from top 💪💪💪
yaaaas!!
I use an old steerer tube bearing cap/cover, fits snuggly on a steerer tube, guides the saw and no chance of accidental saw marks on the steerer tube.
nice tip!
You covered the 3T and the Italian Tricolore on the drop bar with the tape. Should start with this side first.
thanks for the input
There is obvious advantage in this style bar-tape you don't need that awful extra tape on top
agreed!!
Yes, that's the way I have it on my Marinoni. The sun never melts the electrical tape on the top and it never comes unglued. If I need to adjust the levers or install a bar end mirror, I actually have two pieces, one going up from the bottom in the traditional way and one Italian style starting from the top, as shown here. I put a single strip of tape over the joint under the lever body.
16:20 that’s what 20 years of experience looks like
yesssir
what length are your cranks? My Ekar cranks didn't come with the bash guards. 3T said they had to leave them out as it wouldn't clear the chainstays. Yours is clearly spinning freely
Hey! I think they are 170cm, not too sure. Frame is small so it came in the build kit
Nice bike ! What is the bartape ? Thanks !
Thanks!! That I can't remember XD
Hi Charles,
Great video!
Two questions: fulcrum says the Rapid Red can take up to 46mm tires. Did you actually tried to fit 50?
And regarding the bike, it’s a beauty, though I think 3T missed an opportunity to fully integrate the cables through the stem into the frame. If you call your gravel bike so aero. What are your thoughts?
Thanks dude!
Ohhh I never actually check the tire size, only the frame. I currently have 47mm and they fit great!
Agreed on the cable, it's a bit of a shame that they are external!! My Chinese Winspace G2 gravel bike has internal cables...
I guess what they mean is they only recommend up to 46mm with that internal rim width. You can still mount 50mm or more but the rim bead won’t support the tires as ideal as wider mtb rims would
@@PaganiZondaF650hp yes, I think so too. But would you risk ignoring the manufacturers guidelines? Fitting a 2.1 inch tire at 20 PSI, and letting it run from your rim in a nasty corner?
Or do I misread your comment? No sense to fit something on your bike if it puts you in serious danger.
Nice build, but what about that super long cable housing at rear derailleur???? Like 20 years ago with Shimano mechs...
It's perfect I feel like
Does anyone know what he sprayed inside the foam cable insulation to help it slide over the cable outers? I was thinking of just using a bit of WD40 or similar but am interested to hear what he used :)
Silicone!
Tried the Ekar - and found more resistance on the lower gears under load compered to a sram force setup….how is the shifting, do
You feel the same?
haven't feel the same! for me it's been very great so far!
@@CharlesOuimet enjoy the bike - its really Nice in the Max version 👌
Any updates / long term review on the 3T bike coming soon?
Big announcement on my ig ;)
But it's full on winter here in Canada,so further 3T video will happen this spring!
.25 watt gain on those front bolts on the handle bars lol
I also like the look
Ahahah yes 😁😁
Which shop is this, please? My go-to shop decades ago was ABC Cycles and Sports...aside from La Porte a Bicyclette but I think they moved outside of the city.
This is Pigeon sur Roues on Mont Royal
Cool! Yes Pignon sur Roues!
Je veux te le voler celui là 👀🔥 tellement beau !
ouiiiii
@20.15 beautiful bike! Shame you can see the shifter/brake clamp through the gap in the bar tape 🙄
Don't be so picky man xD
Looking forward to your thoughts about Ektar13 speed. Beautiful build and nice site, "en direct, des ruelles du Plateau!"
ahah yes!!!
I have been using it for a while now. I built it up on a DeAnima frame. LOVE IT!
tabarnak caliss
Def would be wearing a good mask and spraying down the cuttings with water if im cutting carbon
good call
what is the bike shop where you guys at?
Pignon sur Roues on Mount royal
i run my front brake from my right side lever. i dont have much logic for it, i just built my bikes that way and never really had my bikes set up by a LBS. that said, now that i've been doing it that way, i justify it by saying that i'm right handed so that's where i put my more important brake lever.
ahah good idea!!
Very nice video with good informations. You guys should do videos together more often (like "Bike fit tuesday" from Francis Cade).
Thanks Jerome!! Definitely a good idea :D
''Mechanic Monday'' XD
@@CharlesOuimet I’d watch those
Uk my bb spins like a wheel really free is it good
cool dude!
But anyway a perfect build with quality and love.
thanks!
You should also make sure not to breathe in the carbon filaments when cutting the carbon steerer tube because it is not good for the lungs. Cut in a well ventilated area
Good call!!
the mechanic is ace! But that BB did not pass the Hambini spin test...not by a long shot ;)
Ahah that's on campy fault!
@@CharlesOuimet it really has nothing to do with Campy beyond their seals, frame dimensions are generally not to spec for a bearing to perform properly (as published by the bearing manufacturer). Campy uses the Hirth joint on their spindle because they press the bearings on the spindle itself. This places the bearing in tension and improves durability and lowers resistance. Bearings/cups pressed into the frame are under compression, coupled with misaligned or undersized bottom brackets and you get what you get.
Andreas reminds of Taylor Phinney. Both got Zen.
Very zen!
Hi Charles, would you like to share your thoughts on the 3T Exploro? I'm in the market for a new gravelbike and this one's on my shortlist 😁. Thanks!
Hey Maxence! That bike is a true blessing. I never had that many compliments riding any bike. It's fast, still, comfortable, support a very wide range of tires. You'll see me riding this bike A LOT in 2022 ;)
650b wheels is INCREDIBLE for true off-road, but only if you also have a set of 700c!
Watch this video too see all the crazy terrain I was able to ride with the bike :)
ua-cam.com/video/E_I3jYW6G7c/v-deo.html
@@CharlesOuimet Thanks for the reply Charles! I will definitely keep an eye on your channel 😁. Gr
@@CharlesOuimet I will! 👍
@@CharlesOuimet Would you choose the Campa groupset again? Is it that good? I live in Belgium, so we have flats and here and there some nice steep hills... Will the Ekar groupset be good enough to tackle it all? 😅
Weight those foam tubes........ Adds up to 150 g to your bike. Considering 3T does not use tube in tube guides they should add that weight to their quoted frame weights!
good call!
Amazing bike and build.. but that spin test was shockingly bad...!
got to blame campy for that!!
@@CharlesOuimet well yes, for either poor bb or maybe super thick grease. It could be bb alignment inside/through the frame. Not your mechanics fault either just poor quality control from whomever build 3T frame.
I'm surprised Andreas thought that was acceptable when it stopped spinning so soon.
Lovely bike and expert build, I'm dead jealous., I'll be interested on a long term review as it's a frame that I've always fancied but never plucked up the courage to part with so much money.
ahahaha @9:00
ahah yessss!
Lol. That definitely doesn`t pass the Hambini test. I very much doubt the bb alignment is very good.
ok nerd
Oh trust me, the bb allignment is very good if it's made by Andreas
@@zacandrijasevich4986 ok someone who has no idea! 😂
@@CharlesOuimet Andreas looks to be a top mechanic, no question about that, but the bike bb shell must surely be out of spec if it only spins a couple of times?
Not questioning the mechanics skills but the crank didn’t look like it span very freely, maybe the new bearing seals were creating drag?
Hambini test failed
ahah
Чому ніхто і ніде неговорить що рами на карбоні самі недовговічні із усіх рам ? А так то 3 T виглядає дуже круто 22:10
Those cranks should be spinning more in that spin test. My Chinese carbon frame with Chinese bearings spin more than that one… apart from that, nice bike
crank spin test doesn't really equals good bb/crank
@@CharlesOuimet please make a video explaining the reasoning behind it
@@afpx8065 Unloaded bearings spinning freely doesn't mean much as to how it's going to perform under load and in the real world. For example, slightly loose bearings, with the seals and all grease removed, will perform extremely well if you just spin them around freely. They'll obviously be terrible in real world applications.
I might be a minority, but why is the euro convention to have the front brake on the left. Motorcycles all have the front brake to the right lever. Most people are right handed and therefore their master and generally better controlled hand is the right. The consequences of grabbing too much front brake is normally worse than a hand full of rear.
true!
Where's the weight?? 😬
we forgot!!!
Now for the camera work...
Yes!
Euro style wrapping from the top is not a thing... never seen that ever

Wear a mask so you don't risk breathing the shards when it's being sawed.
