    This "Tire first" approach to bike design made me smile, race cars are often the same way. "What is the best tire I can use in this race? now build the car around it"

    That's a massive stem & nice touch left dirty, thankyou for all your innovation and thinking outside that box - still want a Cervelo Soloist it's just out of my reach, still good to have dreams.

    Beautiful and technology-packed bike! Well done. The only thing which could have made it better is internal routing for the handleabrs and stem. Could you please advise what is the ID f the top headset bearing? Just trying to figure out whether Deda Vinci would fit it... Thanks!

    Nice bikes! What was the name for the thru axle you mention here and is there a source for more information on thru axle stifnes? Also looking at bikes on the site I cannot find clear mention of the BB types used..

    What a lovely bike ‼️ What is the size of the bike you had on presentation from 9:20 onwards? Also what is the maximum tire size on a 2x in 700c? Can i refer to your WAM and RAM? Will the seatpost clamp take oval carbon rails? Will Red/White be available as frameset? Thanks very much. What a lovely bike again.

    I was tempted to buy one, but the new model disappointed me and above all it seems to me that there is not enough room between the frame and the rear wheel (I would not like to try it in REAL mud situations)

      Doesn't seem to be a problem for people who ride it. Anyway, the current Exploro remains in the line-up.

    So what is the ideal clearance for tire to seat tube according to your standards?

    I just ordered a 2X Race Max and am quite excited. What is the optimal tire size if I’m riding predominantly road? Thanks.

    • @TheDjoneofakind
      @TheDjoneofakind 3 роки тому

      I'd be keen to get an answer on this too.... I ride predominantly road but with intentions of heading abroad (eventually!) to discover new trails etc...I don't have space for multiple rides, so 2 sets of wheels will surely be the ultimate way to go? My finger is firmly on the trigger to buy one. I absolutely adore it and the paint job is sick!! @gerard vroomen

    I am riding a normal road bike and I would love to own an aero bike and a gravel bike. I guess this bike would be the answer. Very nice. I wonder how fast it will be with 28mm tires. I also would have loved to see a storage option in the massive down tube like known from Specialized.

    • @gerardvroomen7359
      @gerardvroomen7359 4 роки тому +3

      Why ride with 28mm tires when you have clearance for so much more? It's just as fast with 35mm tires and as we all know, paved roads often aren't exactly smooth either.

    I was tempted to buy one EXPLORO but for my taste they ruined it. I will be curious to see the mud discharge of the rear wheel 😑 (in REAL MUD situations). 100% agree with @WasteIndustrial

    • @gerardvroomen7359
      @gerardvroomen7359 4 роки тому +13

      It's funny, most people think that's a problem when they see it, but not after they ride it. Some frames collect mud, others shed it. I'm not sure there is a unified mud theory, but this frame just doesn't collect a lot of mud there. I am surprised how many people think we would just put a frame out there without testing it for miles and miles in all sorts of conditions.

  • @chrisweber7460
    @chrisweber7460 4 роки тому +2

    It looks like an extended Strada. I hope it is the best from Strada and Exploro. I like it. My question about the new frame is about the comfort, if you use it on gravel roads.

    • @gerardvroomen7359
      @gerardvroomen7359 4 роки тому

      Even on a road bike with 25mm tires, half the vertical compliance comes from the tires. With a 35-40mm tire, that percentage becomes even higher. So what you do with the frame becomes less and less important. you still try to optimize that parts as well of course, but the focus is on the tire.

  • @0RANGOTANG

    With a massive down tube like that you kinda wish you could store things in it. Don’t know why that isn’t a feature. Something along the lines of the specialized swat

    • @gerardvroomen7359

      We considered it but like to keep the structural integrity of the downtube.

    • @0RANGOTANG
      @0RANGOTANG 4 роки тому

      Gerard vroomen thank you for taking the time out of your day to reply. Would that really weaken the integrity of it though?

    • @gerardvroomen7359
      @gerardvroomen7359 3 роки тому

      @@0RANGOTANG Any hole weakens the structure. of course you can reinforce it to get it back to the level you need, so then structurally there is no difference anymore, but the extra material of that reinforcement obviously adds weight. I'm not against it per se, but in this case it didn't make sense to make an opening there. I'd make it below the BB, but then it's clearly much harder to get stuff in past the crank axle.

    Does a 2x Drivetrain interfere with the tire clearance?

    • @gerardvroomen7359
      @gerardvroomen7359 4 роки тому +3

      A little. It's hard to get to the 61mm WAM with any front derailleur on any frame, nothing you can do about that. but with GRX or Force AXS Wide you can get to the mid-50's.

    A rather brilliant bike. I'm tempted. I'm very glad 3T avoided gimmicky, leaking, snapping downtube hatches and impossible to service, fragile integrated front ends. My only concerns is the tyre clearance at the rear. 700x40mm tyres are fine on the front, but 60kph+ downhill hard gravel needs a bigger radius rear tyre, which is not in the wind after all. A solution is a 47mm+ 650b rear with a taller profile to match 700cc radius. On the road, I suspect this is more aero than many aero road bikes (not UCI stifled!).

    Will the Fork be offered as a standalone?

    • @gerardvroomen7359
      @gerardvroomen7359 4 роки тому +2

      There's little point as it wouldn't really work on any other gravel frame. Except for a custom frame, and we do sell to custom builders.

    • @Digi20
      @Digi20 4 роки тому

      @@gerardvroomen7359 Hi Gerard, thanks for replying :) There are some road bike frames with enough clearance in the rear to accept a ~38-40mm wide 650b tire. but of course that was never intended to be done and so the standard forks are too narrow for those tires.
      there are only very few wider "gravel" forks with 367mm length on the market that would accept the wider tires and not alter the bikes geometry.
      it sure is a niche but i consider rebuilding my road bike into a more comfy endurance tourer. so that racemax fork would be perfect and one of the very few options.

    Recieved my frame. Not extremely impressed. Barely enough clearance for 700c x 42mm at the rear. The seat post hardware didn’t work with either of my saddles(oval and standard). Had to use the hardware set from another seat post I had.
    Tried to return it but they charge the customer for return shipping. Their service is the definition of trash.
    I have a 54 in sand olive available for sale if anyone is interested.

      Wow. So instead of returning it and eating the cost, say $100, because you misunderstood the indication for this bike, you'd rather sell it for 1/2 its cost as a loss. Genius.. Your complaint sounds like sour apples and buyer's remorse more than anything

    Please don't use proprietary bearings! Unnecessary, expensive, and PIA.
    Otherwise, nice bike! I already have a Strada and an Exploro - the RaceMax looks like the child of the two.
