      That's one thing that separates Chad from other drummers for sure. As Chad talks about in the video, the whole premise of RHCP songs are written on the back of Chad's groovy drumming and Flea's dope vibey bass rifts. With Anthony writing lyrics based off what those two guys come up with together, and Josh/John adding in the lead guitar riffs over those.

      One chill night from my bedroom i heard them checking his snare on one of the songs.
      It blew my mind.
      So i went outside to the parking lot to hear it again.
      Best snare i ever heard.
      I bumped into Chad ten years later at a restaurant in Hollywood and mentioned that snare iheard that night. Chad closed his eyes for a moment and said,
      "God i wish i owned that Black Beuty."
      In the funky moks doc i could see not only my car in the driveway(haha) but the Drum Doctor Cartage Drum cases in some of the scenes.

    So Chad is one of my favorite current drummers!!! I’m 57 and grew up loving Bonham Moon… etc. etc…. I’ve been struggling guitarist for a long time, but I’ve always been obsessed with Drummers… I love to tell is that when I lived in LA I was bartending at the hard rock in Universal Studios… Chad was donating a drum set. He used on tour…. It was a Friday day and a bunch of kids were there with their parents…. I remember this young kid about 13-ish coming up to me and asking me if he would be able to meet Chad… I replied to him that I really don’t know… came out and told the story of the drum set… I remember it being like a gold clear kind of looking set… He did exactly what happened in this video… he played great grooves to the songs… and when somebody said for him to play a solo, he replied in the same exact way back, then which may have been 20 years ago! As In this video… At the hard rock, we had done a bunch of people donating stuff and signing autographs… but I remember distinctly Chad saying I’m gonna grab a beer and stay here and talk to everyone of you! And did… and I remember him and the kid that asked me if Chad would hang out… I remember them air drumming… they were talking about Music!!! And Chad stayed there much longer than anyone else I had ever seen in my 17 years of bartending!!! Chad is not only or my favorite Drummers … but he is also on my favorite people ever for being famous and sharing with the people that want to be… Or lol struggling musicians… as I was… and still am! Love you dude!

    • @Proghead88
      @Proghead88 Рік тому +1

      @@scartissue121 All the drummers of the 60s that improvised in rock were influenced by jazz drummers. Dixieland and jazz musicians developed the drum set, and they also developed the idea of how to improvise while leading a band with it. Anybody with half a brain knows that improvisation is a human concept, and not even just found in music. But I guarantee you that every single blues-rock drummer that was a good improviser in the 60s was directly influenced by a jazz drummer and they could name more than one that affected their playing and inspired them to improvise to that level. Also, just because I say he's like a jazz drummer doesn't mean that I only meant that he's a good improviser. He's also very dynamic which is something a lot of rock drummers don't care about as much as jazz drummers. He has a sense of restless creativity where he always wants to be expressing himself in the moment.
      In his cultural context and upbringing, this was influenced mainly by jazz, R&B, and blues rock drummers (that were influenced by jazz drummers as well). You can't escape it no matter what. Lars Ulrich from Metallica also has this more loose improvised approach inspired by Jazz (he grew up around it and had conversations with his dad on how loosening up and adding some swing to the feel and playing with the accents can be a good thing in metallica's music). It's part of a much bigger conversation but when you examine the conversation you keep going back to Jazz and it makes perfect sense why.
