Likewise, I have the v2 and it’s docked most of the time. It’s nice to see OLED happen, but we have the Lite for portable and now OLED for premium portable. Where’s a model for the docked users? 2 portable orientated models doesn’t make much sense.

I play my Switch in portable mode 98% of the time, so the bigger screen is absolutely worth it for me. It was the same reason I upgraded from a regular 3DS to an XL. I’m sure I can recoup most of the cost selling my current Switch since it’s in great shape and I still have all of the original packaging and everything.

Same here. I play about 95% handheld because I'm either away from the house or don't want to bother my wife by having the TV on (late in the evening especially). The screen on my original launch day Switch is just looking so small the more I watch these videos about the OLED model. I get used to that thin bezel and then look at the super thick bezel on mine. I mean, most people upgrade their phone every couple of years and spend $500+ on it. I've had my Switch for 4.5 years now. It's just outdated.

The only reason you should worry about burn-in is if both of these apply:
    1) You mainly play one game, particularly a retro game, due to its likely static UI elements
    2) You exclusively play in handheld mode, for hours on end, every single day, for years
There are folks who play their Switch like this, and they should avoid the OLED model, frankly, as there is a good chance they’ll deal with image retention.
Otherwise, anyone else? You’re fine. Seriously. If you play your Switch a couple hours a week and switch back and forth between handheld/TV mode like I do, you will never get close to getting burn-in.

@@vivid8979 I'm gonna be using it at about 50-75% brightness, should I be fine? I am one of the people who only play a few hours a week at most. Only time I put more time than about 8hrs a week is when a new game comes out, like when botw 2 comes out I'll probably be playing all my free time but other wise it's only about 8-10 hrs at most a week, so should I be good? Actually about half that time will be on my TV. Thinking on it I'll play vibrant games or new ones handheld (metroid, botw 2) and for games I've already put so many hours into I'll do tv, like xenoblade chronicles 1 & 2 I'll do tv, or the pokemon games.

Maybe this was just too obvious to mention, but the biggest factor when deciding if the OLED is worth the upgrade is often you play in handheld mode! Showed up to GameStop at 8:30am on the 8th, bought a white OLED model, brought it home, transferred the user data over, and brought back my launch model Switch for $260, which makes the cost of the upgrade roughly $100. @@kirin1230 Depends on the game and the circumstance within the game. Switch has basically 2 bottlenecks; the CPU and the memory bandwidth, while the GPU part is relatively good. It mostly struggles in games that relies heavily on data streaming, which is why they make the textures look so low-res in open world games. It also performs poorly in cpu-heavy tasks, why good-optimized games puts more general-purpose calculations on the gpu.

    • @trixniisama
      @trixniisama 3 роки тому +1

You are right, memory bandwidth is the major bottleneck of the current Switch design. I have two videos on my channel covering that in some way. Xenoblade 1 and 2 cannot render at 720p native resolution with stable 30fps unless you overclock the RAM. I also applied some CPU and GPU OC to get rid of all performance spikes, but it isn't as necessary.
Nintendo's main goal for the next Switch or a future revision should be on improving memory bandwidth by increasing the bus size or have more memory altogether. Reduce the node another time, to 12nm or 8nm and because of the increased efficiency, overclock the CPU to at least ~1300/1400MHz and GPU to ~800/900MHz and it will be a monster. Still not enough to compete with a full fat PS4 but well enough for a handheld for some more time.

The Premium feel and the louder and better sound paired with the built in LAN port is a neat bonus. Finally the extra GBs is always helpful.
Always wondered why people invest huge amounts on great gaming PCs and console, just to buy a cheap and quite sad display! You know, it's actually not too bad. Sometimes even the small upgrades might make the bigger difference.
I would've got one, but because I share the Switch, I don't think it would be worth it.

My red box switch is only a year old, but I play in tabletop mode w/ a pro controller 99% of the time. That OLED screen and improved kickstand are looking too good to pass up and I've been wanting a 2nd switch anyway!

I think that while the burn in concern is valid, it’s less of an issue than it’s made out to be. I’d imagine the user base that uses a standard (not Lite) Switch in handheld mode for 5-6 hours a day is very very small.

Burn in isn’t gonna be an issue. A dude left his switch running on the same screen for I think like 800 or something hours and there was very minimal burn in. Regular use will not happen.

8:04 this is not how a OLED display works it still uses a light behind the panel the pixels simply change their opacity to let more or less light through. in-fact a lcd display is most of the time less battery intensive as it uses local dimming zones that change the intensity of the backlight

Me upgrading from the switch lite Coral to the switch OLED is probably the biggest upgrade since I upgraded my iPhone 5s to the iPhone 8 Plus a few years back and it was so worth the extra money! :D

The way you described the question of upgrading is top level. You let every other person to make any decision they wish to make, and not feel bad about it, because in reality the really shouldn’t.

For hours on end. Not just an hour or so shooting a video with a few takes here and there. You don't have to worry about burn in THAT much lol. It would take a static imagine for many, many hours. That's what he means when he says don't leave it on for long periods.

I have an oled preordered even though I have a v2. I like to play handheld primarily so having a bigger and better screen just makes sense. Gonna keep my v2 for my son to use

I was the 4th person at my gamestop to line up for the switch. I had arrived an hour early. 20 minutes in before opening time, there were 20 people behind me. 😳
I was so glad I showed up early. Other people behind me left in disappointment when they learned that they were too late and couldn't get one. I made no pre-order, I was just the 4th in line to get one without a pre-order.
I sold my original switch for 200 store credit providing that you give them everything that ever came with it when bought, that includes the dock, wrist straps, properly working joy con's, plug.... (They do not accept 3rd party docks or controllers). So I was able to get the most out of my original switch.
The oled was worth the upgrade to me. I love playing in portable mode more than ever because of it color enhanced and vividness display. It's up to you if you want to upgrade but don't break your head on it cuz it's not that much of an upgrade and you're perfectly fine if you choose not to get the oled. Its just I liked the bigger screen which was all I cared about.

I just bought a switch monster Hunter bundle. I like the design they added to it. OLED doesn’t mean much to me especially when I’m spending most of my gaming on a high quality TV monitor. I only care about OLED for things I am going to spend my time looking at all day (ex. Phone).

Already pre-ordered the OLED from the OG Switch. I think the changes are enough to justify an upgrade. Got the white. Really sad about the accessory issues though.
