TintStuff what film you use??
I use Avery Dennison NR
Question: I lay vinyl and have never installed tint. I have a customer that wants office windows tinted. Rather that giving away the business, I thought I would do some research. Should all tint be shrunk before install? And you make tint install look pretty easy, without any bubbles, etc. Is that from shrinking? Thanks in advance for any advice!
Edit: I apply wet and dry vinyl.
@@scootsmcgoots6343 office windows are all flat so no need to shrink them. all shrinking does is curve the film to fit the curve of the glass.
most architectural jobs charge $8 or more per square foot of glass. good money in flat glass.
@@DetroitTintStudio Thanks man! I really appreciate you responding!
It’s probably just me but seeing film shrink and lay down flat is just really satisfying 🤷🏻♂️🗽
Mondo TheGreat! It’s not just u. I’m a tinter and one of the best things of the job is the satisfaction of the step process. Tinting actually becomes quite addictice
No it's not, it's definitely not when you have a curved hatch back and you just can't get those curves out of it! 😭
Way more satisfying when you do it yourself
This is the best rear window shrink video i've seen so far!
I ffed up my own first rear tint but ima get some new film and try again...
5:18 That was an aha moment for me. Thank you lol
Same!!!
Matt, when the glass is manufactured and the cooling process of the glass there is always one side of the window that will drop more than the other side. Thus creating more or a greater curve on one side. Thus one side of difficult windows is due to this phenomenon. Your technique is on spot. On those side that are more difficult apply more dryer sheet. .
just a trick. if you set the center of the 'H' pattern higher then half it makes the top corners easier .
Just added tint to my glass company and wouldn’t you know it my first big job was/ is a 20 charger. I creased 2 pieces. Customers is dropping off again in the morning so I’m glad I found this video. Thanks for sharing this knowledge. Oh and The aid strip is going to be very helpful.
Volkswagen beetles are the hardest in my opinion
True, and in my country theres couple cars that so hard to do..
I watch ur vids religiously lol back windows always scare me when i tint but most of the time they cone out great, sometimes i will have to redue bc i end creasing when shrinking. Im no pro but i do pretty good. My buddy owns a show in town and taught me a lot of what I know and watching your videos has taught me a lot also. I've never done a dry shrink though I usually do a wet shrink. I just want to thank you for making vids like this for people like me who love to do this as a hobbie but also trying to make it into a profession. 👍
Just a tip ☺️ if you are scared you won't be putting as much pressure as you need to so the film will get under your card and cause a crease. Firm pressure and most of problems will go away
Wow 😲.. you made it look simple , thank you for that video
OG Matt never disappoints! Great vid.
Great advice on tinting charger back windows. I tint a ton of police chargers. Had not thought of the second shrink after the weed. Especially with the rubber trim at the bottom of the latest model. Getting too many fingers. Hope this helps.
Met you this weekend man you have a great channel lots of useful information......and I liked the white tape you use for the outline!!!
If you could show some more windshield tinting . Windshield tint is very satisfying
Man you make it look easy.... I'm just starting to learn on window tinting. Did you go to a window tinting school or no? or just practicing on cars?
Cutting the film using all of the glass can help you on harder wi does like Corvette tear drop windows or beetles. Allows you to move some big fingers over to the side edges past the dots.
Wish i would have read this comment an hour ago...fuck me...a charger just whooped my ass, had to pass 80$ back to the costumer today...FAIL
Youre just the coolest tint guy!!!
Well thanks to you and your amazing videos I tinted my two back windows on my sedan and they came out great , not perfect but great :D , thanks man I hope you get sponsored because this is gold ! Saved myself $80 thank you 🤘
I’m digging your glass aid product, I hope you sell a lot of it, it’s a great idea.
I’m trying to find some rn but they don’t have any 😭
@@simplybuilt_1708 its just white 1/4" wide 10mil thick vinyl tape u can get just about anywhere for about 5 or 6$ for a roll of about 30yrds
I’m loving the Videos Matt. Looking forward to working together!
Thank you so much fornthis video!! I been keep buying more and morw expensive film as i tought its the film quality why i cannot do the shrink onto the back window..!!
From a fellow tinter well done on a great shrinking rear screens video. If you really want to test yourself, try a N14 Nissan Pulsar(possibly different name in the US) hatchback. In the days before thermoforming it was a very nasty 7 piece effort! I will say that if I do them nowadays I do them in 2pieces simply to save time & film, except by special request from the customer willing to pay a premium of any extra film used if it takes more than 1 attempt Good Luck!
Question are some dryer sheets better to use than others?I did that window yesterday, wish I had seen this video first.Thank you for instructional video.awesome job.
Nice man.
Good job
Always educational
This video really help me, I'm having problems tinting the rear window on my elantra 1998 it's so curved
Thank you 🙌
Angle the gun and some times go in circles....let film kool too if it starts to bind up take your time....friendly helpful tips from me....
Very very good video
Excellent video - Your film is awesome it shrinks much better than the film I bought off of Amazon.
On my Ford Crown Vic the large curved rear window is a nightmare because the film won’t shrink to fit
Is there a quality film that a DIYer can buy with good to excellent heat shrinking capability like your film?
Update - I saw your website & I can buy a roll of quality film there
Thank you very much for your videos they are awesome! I have definitely learned a lot very quick question for you though what do you put on the exterior of the window before you put the tint on before you shrink it? So the tent doesn't just stick to the window did you say a dryer sheet? Thank you have a good day
Wet a bounce sheet and apply it all over the window only exterior let it dry and lay the film then do your process
I find it so easy since the quality is so good in comparison with the one i use
I'd like to see you tint a rear window on a third generation Camaro lol.
Awesome job
Yep, I fucked up the back glass on my '04 Chrysler 300m earlier this morning. Guess I'll buy another piece of tint.
Please do a mazdaspeed6 rear window.
I’ve been to 5 different shops and no one has yet to tint my windshield perfectly without mistakes. I’ve spent so much money on it that I’ve just accepted it. I was told my windshield is too curved and it’s impossible to get without an error
Tint technology is the best in Korea.
If you don't shrink tint like this, is this why you see windows, mainly back ones that bubble up like crazy? Been watching your vids and going to do my wife's front windows, my sun visor strip and her Altima, all windows.
Have you ever done inverted glass like the G-body el camino? Having trouble with that right now.
I hope that i can meet u and show u the way i did it in Malaysia, i see here film is also a factor, some film not suitable for this kind of curve glass, sorry for my bad english, peace! ✌🏻😬
Can you do a video on a chevy cobalt rear window. So far that is the hardest i have come across. Also how do you solve the problem with some windows beading the soapy water off? Is it just me not prepping the surface correctly or is there something else at play?
Thats so funny... Thats the car im here for too lol... I dont remember them all being this hard lol
You don't spray water when shrinking?
Great video
Thanks
How bout you do a 1996 Cutlass Supreme next?
I just have to know how’re you shrinking that efficient? Sure years of experience but I’m curious on your method.. I usually shrink/split spears at a time on rears/ windshields but I like the pull shrink method you do; it just looks like it’ll crease when you shrink it but you don’t lol
I'm here looking for a Honda CRZ back window tip.
Looking at it...I don't think it's going to need to be shrunk.......would you agree?
I'm installing lexen nano carbon pure.
Do a uncut, full length video of tinting a 1989-1997 ford thinderbird rear window...
Andy Fromm I just did a ‘88 last week. Nothing hard about it.
@@josephhilzendeger6983 88 is different than 89-97
Where can I get that guide tape ?
Same question here brother
Are people really complaining about the back window of a Charger. Anyone remember the 80's, 90's and early 2000 Camero or firebird back windows with the compound curves.
Yes, but those cars the hatch opened so it was much easier to apply.
@@scott4172 its not the application, its the shrinking of the film thats hard.
What Exacly are U Using to Shrink???is ait A Special squeechi???
Can you show how to tint back window on renault laguna caravan (2005),it have a shockers on glass..
Before you put the tented Put first water👌🏻
I don't know if someone already asked this but would you ever/ have you ever removed stickers? Is that discussed with the customer?
Try to tint back window on Peugeot rcz
Can you do a full review on the Avery film there is not much info on it
Have you done $1000.00 Llumar tint? which acts as an insulation. It mitigates the amount of heat penetrate getting in your car by up to 70%.
Not a formula one llumar film specifically but I'm very familiar with ceramics. They absorb IR heat and it radiates off the glass. really nice for driving cuz they take that direct sunlight heat off your skin. the car isn't much cooler sitting out in the sun because of the ambient temp and your car is still a metal box.
3 questions?
_
_1.where are located?
_2.what camera do use?
_3.why dont you use graphtec tint cutter?
That window is very easy
The blur at the end. Lol
I have a jetta VI and I have got very big bubbles on the back window!
I have a question is it OK if I install the film over the window (outside) ?
Because pulling the old tint can break the heaters (defrost)! Right! Any suggestions? Thanks
What kind of tape is "window aid", thin masking tape?
Have you tried glass aid with a torch ???
Not yet but it shouldn't be an issue. I've seen the glass stay cooler with a torch because the shrinking happens so fast. also because you aren't burning holes thru the film, anything underneath is good.
@@DetroitTintStudio rite on
I didn't know you can put the tint on the out side, instead of inside.
😂. Film is meant to be installed on the inside. Never on the outside. But one can do whatever they want; right?. Put it on the outside if you want
Hi thanks for your help I really like your vidios,
how good are Avery Dennison films?
Do you recommen it over sunteck films?
Does this apply to pre cut tints also?
Great video. Is it possible for the window to break due to too much heat in one spot?
it's more possible on the windshields. hot spots on laminated glass could crack. but the film would burn well before the glass would break on tempered
@@DetroitTintStudio thank you
I never tinted anything and I tried my 85 corvette rear window. Hahahahaha.
How hard do you think it would b to shrink 5% tint on a 1967 vw bug rear glass? Is epic tint good for doin that?
Are you located in Michigan I noticed the old English D if so I should’ve brought my car to you,I ordered precut tint for my 2000 camaro I failed at the second attempt on this car and it was mainly due to that super contour back window
5:09 👋
Hey man. Great video! I just want to ask a stupid question. What is the purpose of "Shrinking" film.. or what does it do..? I just don't know what it does or is meant too do.
Eric G tint is a fabric in a sense that it can twist and move. Glass often has curves and the tint won't sit perfectly flat on it without having creases and bubbles or the well known term "fingers". You shrink film to form perfectly to the shape of the window. Hope this helps
Hardest windows I've done so far are Honda Integra dc2 , VW beetle , don't like vw golf either ,
Nice job, definitely harder back windows!
What tint do you use? Brand
@@Envyous5 xpel, suntek, aswf
Agreed also eclipse and corvette can be a pain
Here in Europe its nothing but German, French, Italian and Japanees cars, 9 out of 10 cars its VW, VW, VW, BMW, VW, Audi.
How hard are pulling every time you move your fingers to a new spot?
I feel like I'm pulling to hard.
Are you just trying to put a little tension?
not hard, just a little tention to lift it off the glass
What kind of shampoo u use how much you can use
Stupid question, but is this film on the outside ??
for cutting and shrinking but then it goes on the inside.
Can you tell me the store i need to buy tint paper
What heat setting do you use in your gym? I have the same one
Wen to have win window tint for my 2018 dodge charger and its the second time the shop hase to do the job again. To much buble, he tells me its because of the defoguer.
What kind of white tape you use and where can I buy it ?
Is there a part 2 to this video? so you leave the tint heat shrunk on outside of window and done??? lol
No when there are no curves or air bubbles you take off the protective coat and wet spay it also the inside of the window and apply it inside, the squeegee in an H pattern from the middle
🤔huh, if that’s bad. You should look at a 74 charger rear window…. 😑. Slightly more curve going both directions…. Slightly is said with sarcasm.
what films is this?
What material is that squeegee? Or how is named?
Every time I do these cars . I end up with fingers on the defrost lines after installation.. I’m using same heat gun and I’m using madico black pear NR film . I’ve tried cleaning glass with steel wool and white scotch brite pad . What step am I missing ?
Yea they have a common defrost issue. Next time, turn on the rear defrost about 1 min BEFORE installation. let the glass get hot and then install the film. everything lays down really well and stays. I don't use any steel wool or sand them. just turn on the defrost.

Ich brauche bitte die Name von diese weiße Klebeband du klebst auf dem Scheibe wegen gerade schneiden
How well can you see the glass aid on the 5% films
Not very well without a good outside light. I usually take a small stick light and shine it on the outside while I'm cutting.
@@DetroitTintStudio thank you
Take your time, its not a competition.
it's better if it takes you 10 minutes longer, then having to start all over.
Sure you have to learn from your mistakes, but if it is not necessary, it is a waste of your extra time and your money for extra film.
i was wondering, could a home window tint film be used on a car window?
No it cannot.
If a window is straight without a curve do you have to shrink it?
No, but pretty much all auto glass is curved so even on windows like a wrangler, I'd still shrink them a little. takes a few seconds and saves you from potential issues.
the first reason why anyone would watch these videos is in the running of the car model, why don't you show how you stretch the film in the back where it's hard to reach? more help please
Whats the dryer sheet?
If you get a crease on the middle of your film while squeegeeing out the water during application, can you save/fix it or is the film ruined?
It's pretty much done. you can minimize it from the outside. hear of the spot and press all the air out but you will always see the crease line on the inside.
TintStuff thank you for replying back. I’ve been watching all of your videos and been learning as I go. The application came out good except for that damn crease. Good thing I’m practicing on my dads car lol

The way you shrink it will definitely get finger on the defrost lines
jose hernandez what’s the best way to shrink it ?
Why use film thats hard to shrink when you can use higher quality film that shrinks and lays down better suntek carbon and flex film works so much better. I use avery its good but makes it hard to shrink easy windows
what kind of tint did u use????? im tired of the AutoZone tint
Avery 20%.
What is the hard card called that you are using?
