How to Add a Focal Point in a Mixed media Collage Painting

- Hey everyone!!!
I'm so excited! These two mixed media collage paintings exceeded my expectations! I really couldn't be more pleased with the outcome!
I often like to use the background as the inspiration for the focal point of a piece and these two really are a treat for me to gaze upon.
I really hope you enjoy the video and please leave any questions you have in the comments! Also, let me know which painting you like better... I'm really curious.

Everything about the kingfisher painting is magical......I've painted lots of them but at the end they look stiff, I'm going to order some acrylic inks and get to work on another, see if I can lighten up.... ta ta...💙🏴💙

The Patina is DEF a beautiful look in the blue MM collage. And Paynes Grey is one of my favorite colors in any palette. She is gorgeous!!! And I LOVE ❤ what you did with the bird. After seeing how many hoops you have to jump through to do a giveaway on UA-cam, I ended up not doing it on this platform. Lydia, what do you use to make your oils transparent? Beautiful. Love the tutorials
Hi Pam! I usually use galkyd light, galkyd gel or paint grade safflower oil. The galkyds help it dry faster. Safflower oil dries faster than linseed oil. If I want it really thin, I use my thinner (Eco-house citrus thinner) it's nontoxic.😊
Want to try the paper technique. Afraid I’ll get to that point and then not know what to add. Lol

Hi! I just discovered you while searching for abstract painting ideas on You Tube. I'm trying to loosen up my style a bit. I do super realistic paintings and drawings. I have a question about the paints you use. Do you ever use acrylic paint thinned with medium instead of oils for some of your top layers? I especially loved the bird painting.
