Thank you, thank you, thank you. I was wondering why no one created an app that will help film CRT TVs. The problem was, I was looking for an app just for that one purpose. Already tested open camera and it works perfectly. Once again, thank you.
@@DOSStorm for sure - a few annoying things though: 1) setting the shutter speed manually is really difficult as you have to move a ridiculously sensitive scroll bqr (maybe there is an easier way but i haven't found it), 2) if you accidentally touch the screen it auto-focuses and resets every single custom manual setting to auto-adjust, and 3) free version only exports up to 1920x1080@30fps
thanks for this great video. any chance you could explain where is/what the shutter icon looks like? I enabled 2.0 and restarted the app but I can't see any settings for shutter speed, just iso, white balance and so forth.
You're using Open Camera app correct? Do you see the icon near the top with the exposure icon that looks like -/+? Hit that and you should see that it is set to "AUTO"....if you switch it to "M"(manual) the shutter speed control should appear right under the ISO speed like it does at 2:21.
Curious if the Application "updated" and changed this out. Manual only offers exposure and no other options in Manual Focus, and the more settings for video offers set rates like 60, etc.
Odd. I just used it last night and it was working fine. Some phones don't fully support the camera2 API but that seems to be rare anymore. Is the manual ISO setting working? When you hit the "-/+" icon for exposure make sure you hit the small "m" to put it in manual mode.
@DOS Storm Yes I read the other post in the comments here and checked. Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Plus, it's on CameraAPI2, tapped the little M but only see ISO options. There is no top and bottom sliders. Only and plus and minus button for exposure.
One thing you can do to fix that is defocus the camera slightly. Or in post you can make a mask and select the screen area of the CRT and apply a light guassian blur effect.
@@DOSStorm I have had a dreamcast for a year. Difficult to find games or rather too expensive. I opted for a gdemu. I went from an lcd tv to a crt monitor with a vga box and it's really much more beautiful. (sorry my english is bad and the translator is bad too)
great video. wish i had the phone i do and a place to put the videos it recorded with open camera back in 19XX (yes i used to live in several Japanese games ;)
@@sideburn The closest I've found is the higher end Panasonic cameras like the GH5(which is what I'm using in my current videos). The "synchro scan" feature lets you set super precise electronic shutter speeds in 0.1 increments. Its amazing for shooting CRTs. Some other cameras might have a feature like this but its not really well documented.
Thanks for this video, pointed me in the right direction!
Blackmagic Cam is free for iPhone and lets you change shutter speed.
Cool, I'll pin your comment for the Apple folks!
@@DOSStorm Just as a heads up, it's only available for Apple devices from XS onwards
"You might be thinking: Holy poop nugget"
I..I never did, but from now on I will.
Thanks for the vid!
@@MisterCasket lol thanks for watching.

To be honest an app with preset modes for common CRT configurations would be kind of amazing though.
Clear, to the point, comfortable explanation. Nice channel. Subbed. ;)
yio your channel look amazing man !! keep it up :D !!!
Thanks man that is nice of you to say!
It's the only free program that worked for me , Gracis viejon de la barba.
Glad I could help you out!
Awesome explanation, thanks a lot for sharing.
Concise, clear, perfect! Subbed.
Like and subbed! I like the app you recommended but my 85hz pc crt is just hard to record. Thanks
Yamera for iOS/iPhone seems to be a good free option for manually setting the shutter speed :) thanks for this video
Nice! Hopefully that can help the iOS users out there.

Learned something new! Keep the vids coming!
haha thanks Trent.
you saved my life
Thank you soooo much ! Excited to try this once I'm home :-)
I'm glad I could help. We need more proper CRT video footage in this world and I hope you have fun making some!
Thanx. Clear and to the point!

It works well...I promise! 😁
Great video with awesome info. Holy poop nugget - CLASSIC! Subbed. :)

Very helpful thanks
One thing that is very annoying is the moiré pattern. And sometimes a new phone, with a better camera, generate more moiré pattern than before.

Found a new, fun channel. 😁
Where?!!
Thanks. Now it's time to try with my dreamcast on a crt monitor.
I'm envious. I've never owned a Dreamcast.

all your shutters are belong to us
Well if its the year 20XX now Mega Man X should be around soon right?
@@DOSStorm how do you do that!? :)
Great Video but there's no "camera API" Option in my App
What phone? I know some phones don't support that feature
I just video it on the iPhone and then scrub through the frames til I find and good one and then screenshot that frame. (For still images at least).
Yeah that could definitely work for stills.
@@DOSStorm but I am surprised there’s nothing out there designed specifically for videoing monitor screens.
