Drowning was definitely BSBs best ballad...and it was only an add on track to their Greatest Hit album. How this didn't make it to a main album is beyond me....

BSB can really sing! Just sad that Brian lost his beautiful voice, but he still gives his heart out with every song he sings. AJ's voice is the best the more you listen to them.

This song was originally recorded for their Black & Blue album in 2000 but was left off and released the following year on their hits album. It’s their song but it does use a similar opening to I believe a Swedish song released a few years earlier so I doubt you’ve heard it. Also they are more of a vocal group which is why their songs are slower/ballad-like in the same way r&b groups are. You should check out Inconsolable and Incomplete by them.
O-Town all or nothing has the same sample and probably the most known with that sample. which was recorded in the same time

One thing you'll notice about this song, which falls the same pattern as "Shape of My Heart" and "I Want it That Way" is that two members sing the same parts for each songs. Brian always sings the INTRO or the first verse and AJ sings the OUTRO.. FOR ALL THREE SONGS! I don't know why that is and this must be why all three songs kinda sound similar in arrangement because you hear those exact same voices from beginning and the end. lol

This is so awesome! More Backstreet Boys! 👍👍 And yes, their ballads start out rather sad at times but then as it hits the climax, it's simply amazing. 😁 Have you reacted to "As Long As You Love Me"??? Also, if you think it sounds like a cover, maybe the intro kind of sounds like from a song by O-Town called "All or Nothing". Intro sounds pretty close. The chorus... maybe somewhat similar but BSB's chorus hooks are so heavy in the beat, it really makes the song standout.
I know this is three years later with my comment here but you might have been thinking about the song ordinary world by Drann Drann might have spelled it incorrectly but it has a similar message and tempo also build up too. That aside I love this song backstreet boys are great loved them since I was in my teens and younger. Going on 29 this August still love hearing there songs. Great reaction too.

I remember them dedicating this song to the memory of one of their crew members who was killed on 9-11. He was on the plane getting ready to go home for the birth of his child and his plane was one of the planes flown into one of the buildings that day

BSB were my entire teenage year's. I got the chance to see their live 20 year reunion dna tour and it has to be the best live show ive ever seen,i was 8 months pregnantand was on my feet dancing the entire time

There's another version of this song called " drowning wet version " . Imo the music video for this version is both way more epic and even though they're in front of a green screen the whole time the song and the visuals just add to the emotion of the song .
And I love how BSB still makes jokes about how bad the video is, especially AJ’s non-shirt! I won’t lie, though... I actually like the “wet version” (who thought that would be an appropriate title?! 🤣) music video better.

The Backstreet Boys were big fans of Boys II Men. Which is where you see that R&B vibe.
They started in 1993 when RnB groups (Boyz II Men, Jodeci, Color me Badd, Soul for real,...) were all the rage, their very first album (international release) is basically a RnB album.

You have to check out A.J. when he went solo as "Johnny No-Name." It was really strange to hear him without the boys backing him up.
Also check out "Nobody But You" to hear Kevin's awesome solo! It was much better seeing him sing it in person with those glistening abs and sexy moves on full display or A.J.'s "Lay Down Beside Me". Saw it live July 8th 1998.
