    Chikorita always gets flamed for being bad, but ive always been under assumption that its Johto and its hatred for grass types thats dragged chikorita down. cant wait to see how they compare to Treeko and that evolution line!

      Chikorita has more than just that working against it. Totodile is one of the best starters in any pokemon game, and Cyndaquil is quite good as well. The cost for choosing Chikorita is not having either of them. That's in addition to Chikorita being a defensive pokemon with it's best STAB, barring Sunnybeam, being base 55. Normal type coverage is underwhelming of it's low attack. Rattata deals more damage with Return than Meganium.
      Johto also hates grass, as you mentioned. Pokemon in general kinda hates grass. Fire Blast is always strong and random trainers very often have bug types early, flying sprinkled throughout and the enemy team frequently has poison. Oh yeah, and Grass is NVE against 7 types and SE against 3. Well over 40% of all pokemon resist grass. That number is under 30% for fire and water.

    • @Eggsceptional
      @Eggsceptional  9 місяців тому +2

      @@SquallLionhart409 In all fairness to Meganium.. Rattata is a little monster :P I would agree with your point though, Cynda definitely had plenty of it's own struggles but overall felt better than Chikorita. I'm really looking forward to Toto :)
      I actually hadn't considered that breakdown of SE vs NVE coverage for Grass. Especially in Kanto where every other trainer has some dual typed Poison/Flying/Fire 'mon to wreck my day.

    Meganium needed a special route to complete this run ,in the region filled with poison types . Not having the poison type as a secondary type and no sleep powder ,proved to be really hard. But luckily for Meganium, it's bulky enough to survive a hit which made sub strats indeed best strats. 😊
    Having anicent power and hp flying was solving a lot of problems with the champion team in both rounds. But levitate being a thing in gen 3 really makes Agatha scary, especially whereas in gen 2 earthquake would have solved most of that problem.
    I've been learning a lot from this run, especially because I'm planning to run with it in crystal legacy.😊 So thanks for making that video in the right time.
    Next in line is one of my favorite starters , I hope it would do well.
    And by the way, I'm glad that you're feeling better, keep it up.😊

    • @Eggsceptional

      Not having that Poison type was brutal! It really makes you appreciate Bulbasaur as a starter. It's my goal in life to hack in the ability Mold Breaker into FR so that I can finally beat up Agatha with Earthquake. That's how I handled her as a kid back in Gen 1 and there was something so deeply satisfying about it. Darn Levitate :P
      My pleasure! I hope to check out Crystal Legacy myself in the not too distant future, but the stream has voted for a vanilla playthrough of Gen 5 instead. I'll get there :)
      Honestly, I was SO eggscited to play Cyndaquil. Then I got a bit of a reality check.. I hope you enjoy this week's video.

      @@Eggsceptional With the Chikorita line I always forget that both its attack and special attack are near equal and always lean towards a special attacking set so that's why I thought HP Psychic would be the choice you go with but Flying makes more sense especially regarding Heracross not just for the 4 times weakness but because it has a higher Sp.Def than Def so HP Psychic probably wouldn't be enough to handle it.
      I can see Cyndaquil doing well in the midgame but the early game and the endgame might give it trouble. Totodile with it's coverage and sword dance will tear through the mid and end game

      @@lumineinfinitussilverkagat8094 HP Psychic was definitely among the top choices. That too would have help with Hera, but I found that at level 83 HP Psychic wasn't dealing enough to knock out Hera. That opened us up to Megahorn/Rock Tomb, and then T-Tar could usually KO from there. It's always fun when I grab an HP typing for a single Pokémon (like HP Fighting for Persian's T-tar).
      Cyndaquil so far has felt better than Meganium, but was rife with it's own problems. I'm so looking forward to Toto.

      @lumineinfinitussilverkagat8094 9 місяців тому +1

      @@Eggsceptional yeah Cyndaquil has the same exact same stats as the Charmander line but it doesn't have the flying typing to dodge EQ and doesn't get Swords Dance so options for the Round 2 league seem pretty limited. HP Rock, Electric, or Ice could cover some of its issues but I don't see it being a clean sweep. Totodile on the other hand can clean house once it gets Return, Aerial Ace for grass types, and later EQ combined with a Water or Dark move for Agatha's ghosts and he'll tear through the later half of the game. If Toto needs a Hidden Power for coverage maybe HP Ghost to hit Agatha's ghosts harder or HP Grass or Electric for Lorelei but even then Return or Brick Break can handle Lorelei and stab Surf or Hydro Pump should get you through Agatha since in gen 3 it only gets Crunch as an egg move and bite probably won't do that much at that point given its sp.attacking move and Toto's Sp.Atk isn't great, not bad, but not enough to rely on too much at that point

      Cyndaquil's egg move has been a tough one to decide on for my second run. I'm going to have to do some testing to figure out what's best. Boosting, easier Brock. Oh boy. I'm looking forward to getting back to my roots with the Gen 1 starters.

    Great video as always, though maybe there are some things that we could try if this is getting another redo in the far future. :)
    - Starting with a Naughty nature instead. The extra attack may help more early and lategame with the special defence being lower negligible due to having the option in AP, Blaine may give slightly more trouble but tbh nothing that early RCs and leveling would not solve.
    -Teaching substitute before Koga, it does help with the koffing preventing loss of accuracy, not sure if the sludge will break the sub but that should help protect from muk's attack at least once.
    -Teaching giga drain earlier lets say for the giovanni fight and for R1 E4, with optimization I believe the amt of elixirs, leppa berries,ethers should be enough to last throughout the playthrough, the miracle seed may be nice for the giovanni fight as well if not going for the early giga drain route.

    • @Eggsceptional
      @Eggsceptional  9 місяців тому +2

      Thank you! I enjoyed this one, but I feel there's always room for improvement.
      -Nature is one that I struggled with again. I could see a reduction in SpD being in the cards though, Light Screen usually offset most of that risk
      -I was tempted to go with Substitute earlier, but I was stubbornly holding on to my moveset at the time. Sub helps there, but then we'd be destroyed at Blaine without Light Screen. To keep Light Screen I'd have to get rid of Razor Leaf/Return and the 5 PP of Giga Drain was concerning. You raise a good point with it though, between PP Ups and the restoring items/berries in the region it may have been the better call.
      All great points to contemplate and bring to future runs. Thank you for all of your input :)

      -return
      -light screen

      n taking more early and midgame EV trainer grind, managed to hit 200+ attack EV in that case n the nature helps a lot more. Endgame moveset instead of learning giga drain I do keep earthquake instead, which just works as well against T-tar when at +4 SD

      @@Eggsceptional The run I did myself, I clocked a in-game time of 4hr 57min running at a X2 speed up. The final stats of my Meganium and end of game moveset was:

      Moveset:
      Earthquake
      HP Flying
      Ancient Power
      Swords Dance
      Key things I remembered was trying to focus on Attack IV trainers once I started my vitamin feeding, teaching sub early before koga and erika and using candies to boost my Meganium lvl from lv 55 to lv 65 before the Blaine fight, but tbh I have gotten lucky with a AP boost and a sub up on Blaine which makes it very lucky since I was testing the run without light screen initially. The rival did send in T-tar after Heracross for me as well and that gave me the setup to +4 while my health just dipped to about 40%? We could safely setup without worries unless he gets 2 crits from aerial ace in a row with T-tar. The +4 is needed mainly because of the need for 1-shot for Gyarados after its intimidate, otherwise +2 EQ at lv 83 will get the kill for t-tar. Definitely this run of mine was just testing theories and a faster time can even be acquired, only thing I dislike for FR runs is runs dependent on HP can be screwed up badly by the pickup ability but other than that, the run is decently consistent from the 1 run I tried.

    Chikorita is super underwhelming compared to other starters and will probably be quite rough... if you can't get some good rock coverage. HP Rock smashes the big problem in Charizard... and Pidgeot if it decides it loves to Featherdance for some reason. I don't remember any Golbat/Crobat being a problem, but one showing up wouldn't be a surprise. I wonder how annoying random trainers will be with a mediocre attack stat and a primary STAB resisted by bug, flying and poison.

    Predictions:
    Chikorita is going to struggle in the early game due to the first two gym leaders and a lack of coverage, but Meganium in the late game will make up the time because it gets decent coverage and recovery and is VERY bulky. It won't finish as fast as any of the grass starters but I think it will land in the middle surprising people.

      Well, I feel silly because this is FRLG and I thought it was HGSS hahaha. So it's the OPPOSITE of what I said. Easy early on, annoying mid game with the rockets and poison types, balanced E4.

    You're correct about Meganium being themed after a Hibiscus flower. Its name seems to be a combination of the words Mega meaning large and Geranium referencing the Geranium leaf hibiscus, a type of plant commonly used to flavor teas (if I'm not mistaken)

    Hey man, love the video and you're entire channel as well. I have a question since I wanted to start doing videos like this as well. How did you get the starter with egg move before you chose it on the table. Is there a method for that or did you pause the timer and put it in?

    • @Eggsceptional
      @Eggsceptional  8 місяців тому +1

      Thank you! To answer your question - it's a little bit of both. To get my starter on the table I use the Universal Pokémon Randomizer. This also acts to enable evolutions that would otherwise need the National Dex (ie. Golbat -> Crobat). Then, once I pick it up from the table I save, pause the timer, and edit it in PKHeX to get the exact stats/moves/nature/HP typing that I want to run with. I also use PKHeX to disable the electric barrier at Surge's gym. Then I jump right in! Hope this helps :)

    i really think that these gen 2 starter in kanto runs....only adds fuel to the fire in regards to my opinion that gen 1 pokemon are the best pokemon. ALL HAIL THE MIGHTY GEN 1 ORIGINAL GANGSTERS! ALL OTHER POKEMON ARE UNWORTHY!!!!
    Edit: I'm heavily biased to them....I still remember "Wasting" my first ever master ball on articuno as it's the first rare bird.....
    yet to this day, I STILL run an articuno in ANY red or firered run. ( I "Wasted" that masterball on an original "brick boy" game boy...)
    and If I play soulsilver, I yeet the gen 2 starters and still take the damned Squirtle. Same as I've been doing since middle school.....
    This brings me to an idea I have about doing "doubles" runs with one legendary or pseudo teamed with one garbage/mediorce line......Like say, Articuno and.....chansey.

      Gen 1 will always be #1 for me, but that's because it's where my love of Pokémon grew. I don't think I ever used my first Master Ball. I was so worried about using it on something that wasn't "worth it". At least you caught something with it! Chansey is actually pretty beefy. Articuno sets up Reflect for Chansey, while Chansey Skill Swaps Serene Grace to Arti. Then Chansey supports with Helping Hand/Toxic/Light Screen/whatever while Serene Grace Arti blows stuff up. That actually sounds really fun.....

    Eggcellent sir eggcellent. he have done the big plant dinosaur proud with this one, especially in the 2nd run. your 2nd runs are showing more and more the importance of versatility in your runs, we all know you love your sub strats, but having access to egg moves, move tutor moves and a decent HP of your choice is the big one and you are showing this very nicely
    1st run was as eggspected, good early on, the same as Bulbasaur does and reasonable up until Erika and thats where your problems begin and it was your old friend poison. I suggested at one point HP water as an option, I think I was wrong, psychic would of been better for that and it would of handled Agatha and Heracross quite nicely as well. but your poison luck in the 1st run was oddly good, not nearly as bad as normal, that Charizard though, you do insist on torturing yourself against it. also I gotta ask, what was up with your accuracy in that run, you missed so much, I've seen whole runs with less miss luck than that, razor leaf isn't ideal, but its never that bad
    2nd run though, oh my wow, I was not eggspecting it to do o well, but you gave it just the right combination of moves throughout the run and your chopping and changing of the moveset at the league was very nicely done, having giga drain as a closer STAB for style points was a nice touch as was having HP flying. but you having Ancient Power from the off was the big one, that chance to boost and something to deal with the many poison and flying types without worry was just too good. I was surprised that it didn't get rock slide, a big dino getting rock moves seems appropriate somehow. shame about your poison luck, it seemed so much worse in the 2nd run, I think a potential sub 1:30 would of been possible if it was better
    in the chat, I mentioned Mimic as an option for your runs, just a little something for coverage in your 1st runs until you can expand with your new rule set. the options are there, but getting a decent move is easier said than done. after Gen 1 when it was broken, Mimic only copies the last move used by the opponent opposed to you choosing one move to copy. using it 1st turn is not the best option as as we know, 1st move is often status opposed to something offensive, lots of RNG luck will be needed for that strat, but its worth looking into.
    good news from the Nidoking run, it now has some special moves and has cleared rock tunnel. so far I have 0 resets with it, very nice, its coverage for now is good, but once I get to the game corner, it will be become absolutely superb. I think its gonna be good

    • @Eggsceptional
      @Eggsceptional  9 місяців тому +1

      Thank you, thank you :) Oh man. Having options seems to really be the difference between me enjoying myself and me suffering. Even if they're limited options. Having nothing but Grass and Iron Tail for Agatha in the first playthrough just felt wrong. HP Psychic would have done good earlier in the game but the RNG of finding it early is always tough. I think I found TM10 in the Sevii Islands in this run. Plus, HP Psychic did not one shot Heracross. With a Megahorn/Rock Tomb incoming it made the fight waaaay less consistent without leveling up more. I already can't remember if I showed it or not but there was a moment, no accuracy reduction, that the 95% Razor Leaf missed 3 in a row. There were soooo many misses in this video.
      I think a sub 1:30 would be in the cards too, particularly if I optimized the grinding a little bit more. I had to double check and Meganium doesn't get Rock Slide :( But Typhlosion does? Riddle me that one. My mind always jumps back to Magneton when I think about being heavily restricted in move choice. Mimic might have been quite good, but you're right. I'd have to time it. Snagging Scary Face off of Rhyhorn instead of EQ would be a reset right there against Giovanni for instance. I need to keep it in mind more often, it's a really neat solution.
      Ahh yes, access to the Game Corner. How many Nuggets did you farm out earlier in the game? Do you have the cash to just uber max out Nido right away? (other post): Concerning Cyndaquil's egg move I had actually been thinking Reversal was the way to go for the longest time. Howl seems so underwhelming but upon investigation his moveset more I think it's going to be more impactful than I originally thought. I want to try to work in Overheat too if I'm focusing physical Atk. Just for fun :D
      I really am trying! I have collab projects planned, but they're all on hold while I get my resources in order. It's super important to me to get it down now, because I have a sneaking suspicion that the right collab might make my comment section start REALLY getting overwhelming :P
      Noooo I don't think Scott will ever stop playing Yellow. He'll be in his 80s, squinting at his 7 millionth Yellow run going "but what if I...?". I hope I'm doing the same thing :D 200 loses is pretty absurd, but hey at least the time investment sets you up for the rest of the run? Maybe? Well.. maybe not for Porygon. I'll have to look it up myself. A few Pokémon that I found learned Sleep Talk naturally but they weren't Guts users. Oooohh.. Ursaring get it as an egg move. I've been wanting that run for a while. I need my Trinket :D
      I agree with Hailform. And yes, the TM for Sandstorm is right above the final switch you have to activate after dropping the boulder down. Aw man, Torkoal isn't Rock type? Well, that's good for Misty, but also kind of messes with a plan that I had later in the game. Half of his sprite is a rocky volcano shell! Why no Rock??!?
      On Parasect.. I was actually just looking at my EV breakdown after a run the other day. Getting SpD EVs through normal grinding paths is actually ridiculous. I can't believe how rare they are. I'll have to wait until I can Surf then go VS Seeker the Swimmer with a Tentacruel and a Seadra or something over and over if I ever want to hard invest in SpD. You've already convinced me that facing Charizard is just plain bad news bears. Blastoise all the way. Heck, even Venusaur maybe for the double indimidate. Maybe I'll get lucky and can persuade Blast to Rain Dance for me :P
      It's true the Nidos have always been little powerhouses. I call them little because isn't Nidoking only like 1.5m tall or something? He's just a little guy! He's just like Franco Columbo!! As mighty as he isn't tall.

      @@Eggsceptional just anything better for agatha would of been better, the irony though, in the 1st run, you had perfect IV's and thus HP dark, which would of worked. maybe thats why people think Chikorita as the worst, its lack of coverage does it a lot of harm as we saw, but Cynda will be worse I think, but we shall see. and thats fair enough if it didn't have the range for a KO on Heracross, flying was the better call for that one, surprised it didn't learn aerial ace as well, many Pokemon get it after all, including a few grass types.and you know what I'm gonna say about that accuracy, if its not 100%, its 50%
      yeah thats odd that Typhlosion gets it but Meganium doesn't, you;d think it would, its got AP after all. high density grinding would be better, areas with lots of trainers for quick experience, in mid and late games, I find gyms, the fighting dojo and cycling road best for that, Erikas and Blaines gyms are particularly good on that front. I think mimic will have its place somewhere as its potential for something limited makes it very handy, but as you say, the luck has to be with you, one wrong mimic and you might as well reset on the spot, depending on what you are using of course, in theory, you could mimic calm mind from Sabrinas team so you hit harder and she doesn't type of thing.
      for special King, you need the 3 TM's of the game corner at 8000 coins each and another 1000 for a charcoal to boast flamethrower so thats 25000 coins, which is 500000 Poke Dollars or 100 nuggets. I did not need this many, I didn't go for thunderbolt as shock wave is worth keeping as it never misses, I farmed 60 nuggets in total and I am keeping dig for a while until I get surf. I am too high a level to bother with vitamins and I sell everything I do not need. also, here's a tip if you go for the nugget bridge glitch, I used every penny I could before starting it to by antidotes (poison types don't need them) and once I was finished, I sold them all, so instead of losing all my cash from blacking out 60 times, I only lost half. I will get a mystic water later for surf and I might hunt for a magnet at some point too
      as for typhlosion, reversal would be good early on, but fall off by the time you get brick break which is just better, howl will serve you for the whole run, I have a feeling you'll go for it with sub, rock slide and brick break, but we shall see on that one.overheat would be cool to see, if you are all physical, letting off a STAB overheat once or twice when need won't hurt the rest of your league battles at all
      collab projects you, do please tell me more or shall I be surprised when it happens?
      I guess that makes sense, it would be a semi-broken combo after all, Ursaring would be fun to see with it, it may look like a big teddy but it is a beast, I think it was Squidgey that showed that off to us as well as Scott. and I definitely see Scott doing that and we'll all still be watching him do it, the chat would be quite different of course, imagine us all old talking Pokemon, so odd.
      Hailform will definitely make the best use of it, unless you try my mad physical-form of course, weather ball, return, sandstorm and shadow ball, so STAB normal and then ghost and rock coverage, not bad.
      I always thought it was rock type too and it would make use sense, but I think the makers of Gen 3 thought there was enough 4x weak to water in the game already, the slugma and nummel lines have that enough already. it is a physical attacker and gets curse so the lack of rock STAB might hurt you a bit, but I say it speed will do that more than anything else.
      you're not wrong the lack of special defense in a standard run is pathetic at best, it is why I suggest wild drowzees, early game, it is the best option, unless you can find someone with a Tentacool of course. HP investment might be your next best option as it will amount to the same thing in a way, but that isn't great to get either. the trianer with 2 Beedrill before rock tunnel maybe, each beedrill gives 2 attack and 1 special defense. and yes facing the blastoise will hurt a lot less, Venasaur might be too easy, you can boost through the double intimidate and maybe KO Venasaur with aerial ace. I think the Gyrarados might also rain dance so it is an option.
      the Nidos are tiny but mighty and I love them both. aside from what they get from held items and weather setting, they get no boosting options at all and never do as far as I have looked and yet remain epic. look at the Gen 4 moveset alone for either to know that. King is going well, Erika is down and will soon be moving onto the Tower and then Silph

      Seriously with the accuracy. It's such a perpetual pain in the patooti. I actually had 2 copies of TM10 in the first run. Even with just the one Meowth sometimes I get absurdly lucky finding it, but I didn't feel it was a good choice to use it. Keeping that option free for the second run was fairly impactful as you saw.
      It's funny about Sabrina. I could steal Calm Mind from her fairly easily as I find Kadabra usually goes for it turn 1. The only problem is that usually she's such a push over because I have a physical move that picks her apart. XP density in the areas you mentioned is nice but I really try to save it for Blaine's/sometimes Giovanni's gyms. Usually they're much more dense and if I'm grinding in Giovanni's gym my EVs are usually maxed, or close by that point anyway.
      Ahh yes, stocking up on items so that you don't need to waste money while you're farming Nuggets. Clever! I still consider is an exploit myself, so I doubt I'll use it in a solo run. I'll definitely showcase it if I ever get around to that million dollar run. For Nido though that's an absurd amount of cash. With Meowths and not TOO much grinding I find I can have 1 Game Corner TM in Round 1, then if I push for money I can get a second before Round 2. Otherwise, it's grinding.
      Good points with Reversal VS Howl. You know me too well :P I'm thinking about Aerial Ace too as it's been another favourite in Kanto. Even if I have to save Overheat for the Steelixseses only that's worth it in my mind! I'm a firebug what can I say? I worked as a welder for quite a while simply because I love fire!!! Concerning the collabs, mum's the word for now :)
      I know for sure that if we get to that point we won't be typing anymore. Probably not even playing with our thumbs. We'll all be BCI integrated and living in the AI utopia where no problems exist and we can play Pokémon (or anything) as much as we please. Ahh.. it's nice to dream at least.
      That's actually not a bad set at all, the problem lies in base stats. 70 across the board isn't exactly inspiring for Castform and you know how I like my boosting moves. Even if it is only weather. Also, you raise a good point with Torkoal. A poor speed stat has caused many an expletive from me over the course of these runs.
      There are wild Drowzees but that goes back to the problem that I absolutely loathe grinding in the wild. Trainers having better Pokémon and the 1.5x XP yields (I'm pretty sure I'm remembering that correctly) dissuades me from ever wanting to wild grind. I did grind against the Beedrills in that one video (I can't remember which) but aside from that I don't think I've ever went seeking SpD EVs. Those that I got were even by mistake because I wanted the Atk!
      With their expansive movesets for sure the Nidos are great. I just love boosting! It just works, pretty much every time. Do you have Flamethrower already on Nido for Erika? Or did you beat her down with raw power instead? I've enjoyed torching her this week :D

      @@Eggsceptional yeah that accuracy was appalling, it is a shame magical leaf wasn't an option in Gen 3, if I recall Bulbasaur had it as an option for an egg, might be worth looking into for any future runs with it. with only one Meowth that is absurd luck, impressive though, it might of been handy, but you are right, having that option in the 2nd run did pay off for you very nicely.
      that is true with calm mind from Sabrina, but again it may have its place, a bad special attacker in need of a boost would benefit from it, if nothing else but for the special defense boost, Psychic from alakazam will hurt a lot if you're not one shotting after all. as for the grinding areas, I think it depends on growth rate as well, some Pokemon need more grinding early whereas others slow down later and thus places like Giovanni's gym become ideal.
      thats fair enough, if you ever wish to give it a try, my method is very effective. I could of gone for all 3 of the TM's I needed at the end of it if I wanted to, but I often buy a Poygon in the game corner to contribute to the Pokedex so thunderbolt had to wait, but shock wave worked very nicely too. your methods are quite slow, but getting one of the TM's is better than nothing, with the Nidos, there is always the long game cheaper option of waiting to get blizzard, thunder and fire blast after getting surf, but this has its down sides too, the lack of accuracy for a start and something else, if the R1 is too much for a Nido with these moves, the R2 will be much harder.
      what can I say, I know you well at this point, if you can boost, you will, I suspect with Parasect that you went with growth for the R1 as much as possible purely because it boosts its STAB and that no bad thing when half of the league can be dealt with with grass moves. howl will serve you well and so will aerial ace, flying covers a lot of the mid and late game and of course never misses. again with Parasect, I kept it on mine for the whole run because of how useful it was.
      who knows, you may all get to live out life in a Westworld-esque virtual reality where you get to run Pokemon forever. I doubt I will last that long of course, but if I do, look out for someone in a sharp suit with a lot of poison types and a parasect.
      I have spent a lot of time working on Castform, lots of breeding and experimenting on sets and stats, it may be worth trying, a bonus video maybe after the VS. think of it as the reverse of Special Hitmonchan, trust me thats worse than any physical set Castform could have. and in that case, Torkoal will fill the swear jar so quick Mrs. Egg will get worried.
      its strange in FR, special defense is one of the most lacking EV's in the game and yet we have seen that it is the one needed most of all for so many runs, for certain Pokemon it might be worth using the Beedrill for the special defense as well as the attack, I especially bred a Drowzee once to be a physical attacker to take on Milotic and trained it for just those stats and it worked beautifully. if I may also, butterfree will provide the same except it will give special attack, might be handy for grinding in the future.
      I inadvertently told a lie back there, the Nidos do get some boosts, just not good ones, in Gen only they got curse, but so did the whole Pokedex, in Gen 3 they got defense curl from the Emerald move tutor and they have almost always had Amnesia for an egg move, but thats it, not the best boosting options for something so versatile and useful. and of course I had flamethrower for Erika and Ice Beam, the old fire and ice (warm water strat). much has been done since my last message, I have shunted through the R1 using flamethrower, thunderbolt, ice beam and surf and still on 0 resets and am about to do the R2 using rain dance, surf, thunder and ice beam and I may upgrade to blizzard if needed, I might achieve the 0 reset swag with this one, I'll let you know during your stream tomorrow.

      I couldn't believe it! I was just checking out Bulba's egg moves and without finding some interesting use for Curse I don't feel that there's much better than Magical Leaf for the start of the game. Maybe Petal Dance with a Meowth army to supply Persims but otherwise... nah.
      That is fair enough. I hate to go on about the XP curves from Erratic/Fluctuating but overall I'm finding that even when seeking specific EVs it's faster to hunt XP density for more overall stats than 1 battle for 1 extra point in a stat on average. In cases like Shuckle, or even Parasect I could see EV training specifically being much more useful because even at 100 they still suck :P
      That's a fair point with the Nidos too. I always tend to avoid those high risk moves. ~30 power is not worth 30% accuracy in my mind, but you're right that they're cheap solutions. It'll be interesting once I try tackling the Nidos myself to see how what kind of completion time I get. After all, I'm always interested in the absolute fastest real time completion that I can get.
      I just don't know what the answer is for Parasect. Switching from Growth to Swords Dance felt like the right call, but I can't figure out if it actually was or not. Particularly if I add in Psybeam as an egg move then I feel Growth strats are going to be more effective overall, even though Swords Dance is safer? Urgh.
      I'll keep my eyes open for Bug Catcher JP! Wait.. mostly poison types. Tamer? Cooltrainer? I don't want to say Rocket even though they have the most Poison types in general :P
      Ahh even worse than special Chan. Poor Hitmonchan in Gen 3. All of the potential, none of the follow through with coverage. We shall see with Castform! It'd be a fun little "what if" video after the 3 way with rain/sun/hail for sure. It's on the list!
      Hmm interesting point with the Flutterbee. Well, and Beedrill. For me it always comes down to time. Running out 100 steps to have a 40%(?) chance to face the trainers that I want. It becomes very luck based. I can't discount it entirely, I've used it plenty for XP dense training on Seven Island, but focusing on only EVs that I want becomes a most difficult task. I believe it was Radical Red where I first saw how impactful max 252 EVs in a defensive stat could be. It was the ghost sword and board thing, and my Blissey that showed me that.
      That's awesome! I love that you can have full weather sets on the Nidos. Rain/Surf/Thunder is a potent combo once you're past Lorelei. Also assuming Kingdra/Champ didn't give you as many problems. I'm looking forward to hearing more! T-minus 3 hours until stream time. Is it weird that I'm nervous about this one?

    • @veghesther3204

      You won't even in that remake Chikorita is still PURE CRAP and Red's pokemon are even at HIGHER lvs in that remake like at a average lv of lv 85 to lv 90 instead of lv 75 to lv 80 only even in HGSS I would normally still only have 6x LV 65 pokemon since in the remakes Mt Silver still ONLY has lv 65 pokemon in them and the E4 rematch can't be won AT lv 65 since all theirs are still at lv 80 to lv 90 as well.

    • @Eggsceptional
      @Eggsceptional  9 місяців тому +1

      @@veghesther3204 I had to look at the learnset really quickly, and I agree it'll be a tough run for Chikorita. However, I'm looking at some of the moves that we can get via tutor/tm and wowza. Outrage, Seed Bomb, EQ, AP. While streaming HGSS I decided to give every Pokémon a budget of 150 at the Frontier. Otherwise Gen 4 would be pure pain most of the time.
