What do you think of Magnus Carlsen's new opening - the "Norwegian Kangaroo?" And yes, the !! symbol on move 4 was added to emphasize the genius of Magnus Carlsen's new opening, the other annotations are correct 😉
Thst was a careless lazy, not thought out opening, which he did for the sake of doing something different.... and eventually drawn the game by his natural prowess.
Im hitting dont recommend on the channel because you felt the need to say the name of the opening 4006 times. Ive never been so annoyed listening to a chess a video before. Never again will i watch one of your videos
Trying to force the name of a 'new opening' by constantly saying it in the video, putting it in the title, or including it in the comments just because you want to be credited with inventing it, ruins the video, it feels so cringy. I don't know why it annoys me, but I think that is because it shows how many people want to take advantage of any situation to seem relevant, even though they didn't actually do anything. Also, the name doesn't sound good either for me, don't know for everyone else. AND ALSO, the invented symbol at move 4, naah man.
Sorry you don't like the video brother, I did NOT invent this opening, the credit goes to Magnus Carlsen there. I'm not taking any credit here for Magnus Carlsen's new opening, so I have literally zero clue why you would suggest that. But this was a brand new opening by Magnus (his novelty was on move 4), and it was an extremely entertaining back-and-forth game, which fully justifies doing a video on the game. And the free market seems to agree this was a great game, hence the views. I guess you can't please everyone!
Your recap is really good but please don't try to forcefully pin 📌 your idea in viewers' mind by repeating it such as annoying commercials during a movie. This idea not only ruins your recap videos but also shows the cringy manner of content creator. Honestly, repeating that stupid name was annoying! (with all respect but imo was very stupid name)
The opening resembles the famous Dodge city Kansas opening, where the cowboys played the same way. After six months with the cows on the prairie and in the dust, and having found saloons, they suddenly decided to try playing chess - surrounded by whiskey and pistols. Here it is very obvious that Magnus improved that opening.
If you don’t like this brand new opening called The Norwegian Kangaroo then I don’t know what to tell you. The Norwegian Kangaroo is a brand new opening played first by Magnus. Instead of playing a main line opening, he played The Norwegian Kangaroo which was first invented by Magnus during this match when he played The Norwegian Kangaroo. It was especially effective because Hikaru wasn’t playing The Norwegian Kangaroo but Magnus was playing The Norwegian Kangaroo. The Norwegian Kangaroo. The Norwegian Kangaroo. The Norwegian Kangaroo. The Norwegian Kangaroo. The Norwegian Kangaroo. The Norwegian Kangaroo. The Norwegian Kangaroo. The Norwegian Kangaroo. The Norwegian Kangaroo. The Norwegian Kangaroo.
I named it after the guy who made it LOL, magnus is norwegian. If I called it the "Carlsen Variation", would you still be mad? Becuase that's basically what I did LOL. There is a Norwegian Rat opening named after Magnus, did they take credit for that as well? LOL
I know it's not literally meant to be statement of fact as we can never know, but I find "never played before in the history of chess" funny, considering 99+% of chess games played are not documented. But I get it obviously applies to documented chess games that are indexed and can be referenced from a database.
Correct we don't know, we can only go by the databases we have available. So you are correct, it's possible someone played it in a blitz game before, but that is true for all opening novelties.
There are 6 games in the Chessbase Megadatabase 2024 played by a weak amateur called Bjoern Nielsson that started with the moves a6,Nc6,Na7 etc between 2014 and 2017. He lost every game but that was due to him being a weak player.
Brother I don't exactly have Magnus Carlsen's cell phone number, but trust me if you get me in contact with him I will absolutely ask him what he wants to name the opening. And obviously it was named after Magnus, he is Norwegian after all, so the name was chosen in honor of him.

How can an opening be that important...? It's not like an F1-race, where the one that takes the start, has a good chance to win the race..! Instead... it must be during the rest of the game, where the strategic moves and intelligence will increase the progress forward a possible victory.....
That line of thought makes a lot of sense on paper, but chess opening theory and principles often extends deep into the middlegame and endgame - especially in modern tournament praxis. This has been exacerbated by modern neural network engines etc. So today, a very deep understanding of openings and the middlegames / endgames that arise from them is 100% necessary to compete at the highest levels of the game. As an example, after his loss to Magnus Carlsen in the 2024 Speed Chess Championships Semi-Finals, Hans Niemann mentioned opening preparation as the #1 thing he needed to improve before his next matchup against Magnus!
@@drmikechess I don't agree with that total decline of my ideas. Because already after a number of moves the current positions often have broken any pre-estimated strategy.
