After watching your review when this came out I was tempted to buy, then watched a few more reviews from others (not so in depth) I have just received the stick and as you said, really smooth and responsive, thank you.
Superb, it really is a joy to use.
The hand room is very much an important issue to mention, thank you! I mean I got small lady hands so it probably won't bother me, but I do know that having your hands pinched while trying to press buttons or the throttle is a pain most people who get this might experience. lol
Small hands hurt using this thing, I have to send it back because I swear this stick is going to give me arthritis.
Lol your reverser configuration is what I used for Elite, I would quickly snap it back to zero to "change gears" between forward and backward flight
It works!
The reason for the two top side buttons being interchangeable, as well as having 6 buttons on the "wrong" side, is because this is the AIRBUS sidestick. Sure, you can use it for whatever plane/game you want, but the point of it is that the captain stick is a left hand stick and the first officer stick is a right handed stick in an Airbus. The point is that you can choose your "role", or, perhaps, rank. :)
That is correct (I have a full A320 rig)
I personally wouldn't buy this setup as I have a Warthog HOTAS, however I have watched your reviews etc and appreciate the attention to detail you pay to your reviews. Even though I wouldn't buy it, I probably would if I didn't already have what I have. I did buy the Wireless Delan Clip you reviewed ages ago on the basis of your review and I wasn't disappointed. Still works great. My overall point being I enjoy your reviews and moreover you are honest and ojective thereby i'd listen to your recommendations before anyone else before purchasing. Keep up the great work :-)

My main issue with higher end sticks is they're all hyper-focused on military aviation.
The main issue I have here (both as someone who flies real civilian aircraft, and as a left-handed person) is that in civilian aviation you WILL be flying with a left-handed stick most of the time (if your aircraft has a stick, it'll be a sidestick on the left, or a centre-stick, but still held in the left hand.)
Now obviously I do have to point out that for civilian side-by-side cockpit layouts, you can sit in the right-hand seat, and then you will indeed have left hand throttle, right hand stick, just like in military aviation.
However, as a sole pilot this is not a normal state of affairs unless your goal is specifically to practice flying from the right-hand seat.
(the specifics for why the left seat is preferred relate to flying circuits at airports)
So, what's the significance here?
Well, rather obviously, it's that left-handed sticks are surprisingly rare.
Prior to this being announced I could think of only ONE dedicated left-handed stick design, and two that were ambidextrous.
One of the ambidextrous designs being the stick this one is built around.
It's frustrating, simply because they're so hard to come by, and in civilian aviation, you do kind of need to get comfortable with flying left-handed...
How do you like your Warthog HOTAS? Worth the investment?
@@alexshmalex hey buddy, I absolutely love it, i know it's relatively expensive but it's brilliant and flexible as I can use if for DCS, can use it for MSFS2020 etc - so for me it covers all the bases. The build quality is exceptional and I wouldn't have any other flight stick to be honest. If you're thinking of buying one - just do it. You will not be sorry :-)

I haven't played a flight sim in a while, though I used to play military flight sims a lot and had the Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro which was great, though never had the cash for anything fancier. A decade or so on, with a little more disposable cash I figured it was finally worth jumping back in and going for a joystick/throttle/rudder setup. After shopping around I just pre-ordered this TCA officer pack which has the stick and throttle. It looks a pretty competent setup and doesn't break the bank though there's still a little voice in my head saying it's worth spending more and going for the 'professional' option of the Warthog HOTAS which as you say will work for both and I'm sure will be a lot more fun for DCS. I'm thinking I may spend more time with a civilian simulator these days though for the slower pace of life :-) . Is there anything you don't like about it? I suppose worst case, I can always sell the Airbus TCA and upgrade later
That base design just screams 'T-16000'.
Which I mean, it quite clearly is one with a slight design tweak.
I've had a T16000M for quite some time. You can tell it's old by the fact that it uses green LED's for the light in the base.
Pretty good stick overall, though the buttons have given me trouble over time and I broke the throttle slider (largely my fault - dropped it.)
If this is similar in construction, which... Why wouldn't it be?
Then it'll be decent, but not amazing.
Still, this is firmly in the budget category when it comes to joysticks, so... That's to be expected.
Some thoughts, which may relate to things they've changed:
I personally find the T.16000 centring spring to be excessively stiff, and that does get annoying at times.
Where I was mentioning wear and tear, it's the buttons that are the main problem.
The hall effect sensors that the stick uses are so reliable it hasn't changed meaningfully in years, but some of the buttons are dubious.
The throttle slider also happens to be a 100k potentiometer, and those can wear out over time (can't say it was showing signs of wear, given that I broke it entirely)
I've looked at the insides and it's about what you'd expect. Rubber membrane keys and the like. The only surprise was the stick twist mechanism, which looked oddly flimsy.
That's not to say that this stick will be identical, but it's clearly a close relative in terms of design and construction...
I wouldn't be particularly surprised if the only thing that's really changed is the plastic components that comprise the stick itself.
The base looks almost the same...
Just for info regarding the red button on the top (combined autopilot disconnect / takeover button): The reason it can be attached on either side, is to be able to configure it as a captain's stick (left handed) or a copilot's (right handed). Which is nice whatever sim it is used for of course, if you prefer to use the left hand. BTW the Airbus flight control system has autotrim, so there is no trim button on the original, but it's a good thing they have included it here, so that it can be used for other aircraft as well! 🙂 I'm looking forward to try this out - I ordered the stick + thrust lever combo from a local online store, but it seems to take a while before they can deliver. ☹
I actually got rid of the red button to make the stick feel smaller. My hands are not big enough for the stick. It's designed for man hands. :/

As Someone who is fairly new to flightsims 167hours i think getting the airbus edition with both the joystick and quadrant is reasonable. Of course later i want to get the honey comb yoke and throttle , but for now i think this will suit me fine.

Just buy the TCA airbus dual throttles that can be purchased as a kit with this joy stick. Don’t try to use that little slider for your throttle. You can configure that throttle slider on the joystick to do something else. For GA aircraft use configure it as prop speed or for mixture. Or you could configure it as the parking brake.
It's the best control for the Airbus I have ever used.

Thank you for the review. The spring is indeed too strong, but this is not the worst problem. In bad weather, for instance, one needs to make fine, exact and fast adjustments near zero. Unlike Honeycomb Alpha, which also has a strong spring, the zero is a dent like, or hard stop (sort of). So, if one has to move smoothly right-left or up-down, impossible. It is indeed good for a chase game, not for a fine near zero control. Additionally, XP has better models and the problem is more serious there.
I need a piece of advice for a joystick with smooth transition over zero position. Thank you.

I noticed a difference in the detent on my second joystick too, not sure it has to burn through that plastic protection cover to work properly?

@@SimUKReviews I saw that drawing prior to posting my question, which was why I asked what is the "full length" and "full width". The drawing measured a partial length and only 50 mm of it's full width. Could you please measure the full length and width for me? Thank you very much.
A year late here but its basically a t1600 with a skin and changed plastics for the stick. The spring tension, is the same across both.
Flightsticks just are worthless to me without an analog thumb stick. I bought this and I can't believe they're still using crappy hat switches to move your pov. Why? We've been using analog thumbsticks for years. The POV hat is such a bad way to do this. There's nothing 8 way switch an analog thumbstick can't do. It's really disconcerting that I have to buy a 400+ dollar Warthog to get a proper thumbstick. It's really depressing.
i've had one of these for a year or two. the main thing i've learned to hate about it, is it's constructed using screws that are tapped into plastic. i began to notice this when that throttle slider lever thing on the back started acting up, giving really erratic input when used. i took the sensor apart and near as i can tell, the little metal screws holding the sensor housing together weren't able to get tight enough to hold the sensor secure any more, causing it to act all sketchy. i was able to correct this with a real janky fix involving a couple nuts and bolts and a piece of plumbers strap. in the course of doing that, i found the screws holding the base on, after taking them out a couple times, had likewise stripped out their threads in the plastic base. so now i hold the base on with a couple rubber bands. it's still a real nice joystick, but i would like if there a better made one out there somewhere at this kind of price range

I think the issues that you found will not be a problem for most people who buy this for it's intended purpose (flying the A320 in a realistic way) because they will have separate throttle controls.
More relevant for me is the lack of a way to clamp or secure the sidestick to a table/base.No matter the weight it is not realistic to have it just sitting there,it will move eventually.
I am not expecting "true" Airbus feel because the real thing has hydraulic dampeners built in, a spring load mechanism is always going to feel floppy in comparison.But if the resistance is reasonable and the precision is as good as you say i predict it will sell very well.You can buy dampened sidesticks but at crazy prices,bulk and weight.
The TCA will fill a very nice niche and i will probably end up buying the whole set,stick,throttle,speedbrake and flaps (the last two appear in the promo vids).
Wish they made an FCU too :)

I use that thing for my Airbus flying and it does not move. The control inputs you make are simply not abrupt enough to develop enough force to move it.
Quotenwagnerianer Well,if it works for you do not fix it of course.I prefer to clamp it securely because i use the PC sim to prepare airline sim checkrides and some maneuvers ( like a GPWS pullup or Upset Recovery for ex.) do require stronger inputs than normal.What you say,however,makes me suspect the spring might be too soft...the real thing is rather firm.
If you can't think of another method, I find velcro tape works well for this kind of problem.
One half of the tape goes on the bottom of the stick, the other half on the surface you want it to attach to.
Tends to be pretty reliable, and you can still remove the stick.
(obviously, the downside is there's now velcro tape on the surface you've tried to attach it to, which isn't great if you need that to be a smooth surface for other reasons...)

If this is any better than the HOTAS X in stick drag, this is needed, as I had a HOTAS X which ended up pulling right on zero input needing me to add something like 30% deadzone. Hopefully I can get my refund for it and get the Officer Kit when it finally releases!
I am having a lot of challenges with the rudder, ailerons, and elevator sensitivity with logitech 3D Pro.
The movements go from one extreme to the other. I Tried them using Cessna 152.
I even tweaked the sensitivity curves from -0.9 to 0.5 with 5%-10% dead space.
I worked on the config file for Cessna 152 as suggested in one video and set the sensitivity from 0.1 to 0.4 values. But the responses were not up to the expectations.
I am in the market for a better joystick with much improved sensitivity response to the above mentioned movements.
Which one would you recommend as a replacement?
Thrustmaster Joystick?
A320 joystick?
Any other.

I prefer the buttons located near the hat switch on my old Thrustmaster T.16000 M version 1 to the one you are reviewing. The old buttons are more like paddles than buttons and are very easy to reach and identify by feel. Thank you for this review.

Officially official Airbus, lock mechanism to stop the Yaw Axis from rotating; there may be more.
@@SimUKReviews I wonder if it also has the design flaw that eventually causes the Z-Axis to go berserk until you open it up and remove a bit of plastic from the inside.

I just purchased thrustmaster TC Captain Pack X Airbus Edition.
After installing the drivers, as soon as I plug in the joystic the sound is cut off and the joystick does not work. I tried the joystick alone and it does not work.

Sounds like an RMA, but make sure you try a different USB port directly on the back of your PC first.

I ordered the officers package edition to get the throttle quadrant. Separately the quadrant costs $100 by itself. I got the joystick and quadrant for $174 tax included and free shipping. Save a lot that way.
The stick is 65 GBP here in the UK, buying the pack only saves £10 as opposed to separately so not a lot.
Razenby Now I have a really bad problem as Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 errors out when downloading from the Microsoft Store.

6:51 , regarding the strength. I've been in a certified A320 simulator and actually I was rather suprised. The strength of that sidestick was way much higher. After flying in that sim and then downgrading back to the TCA sidestick I was like oh wow even looking at it moves the sidestick :D
Me too unfortunately hadn't had a chance to try the real sidestick in an aircraft (I was too nervous and forgot one time when I was in the actual cockpit to ask to try it, and since than I still hadn't got a chance to enter so I still get annoyed over that), although I beleive that the simulator I was in had a close representation to the real thing. I just jokingly asked how much the sim sidestick cost, and they casually said around €2000 per one! Oh I see :D

I came across this pertinent post on Reddit.
"The TCA Airbus Sidestick Still Has the Yaw Flaw. Here's How to Prevent It from Failing".
"Some of you folks may be acquiring your new TCA Airbus sidestick, and while it is a good piece of kit, it is fundamentally a Thrustmaster T16000M stick. There's nothing wrong with that, but that does mean that it still has the same flaw that plagued the original T16M stick, which was a failing yaw sensor after a period of use". The T16000M yaw sensor was known for failing and causing the dreaded ghost inputs. People began to investigate why this occurred and some people discovered that two plastic "pins" that prevent the sensor from coming out of its slot were simply too long and whenever users would use the joystick, the plastic pins began to press on the sensor. As a result of this, the constant stresses bent the backside of the fragile sensor and then permanently damaged it. Technical users resoldered a new pot sensor and went on their way, but less technical users were stuck with TM support, receiving replacement sticks that failed in the exact same manner".
The author has links to photos he has taken of the TCA Airbus Sidestick disassembled and along with another image he wrote, "The pot sensor sits right up against the wall of the stick. That doesn't leave me confident, but at the very least, we know that the plastic pins are sitting too close to the sensor, at which point press against it when resting your hand on the stick".

Hi! My sidestick turns to the left rolling down the runway…I have to apply excessive rudder to keep the plane straight. My calib. on Win 11 is fine but I just can’t figure out how to keep the plane to fly straight. Plz. help…Many Thanks!!!

Is it possible to have both right and left had configurations and duplicate the buttons on the base in one device, so you can use with either the left or the right hand? Then we can easily control A320 and GA planes?
They won't give you the stick later if you make the amount of subscribers you have public, therefore they will recognise that you are a person of influence who can spread the word about their products as they know you will generate sales for them
With respect Tomahawk I've been doing this a long time and what I have realised is that #subs means nothing at all, it all comes down to views on videos. Nothing else matters anymore, your personality, your ability or your honesty.
If your numbers are high they will give you the time of day, otherwise they're not interested at all.

Hello.Do you know why my yaw movment on the joistick is not working in x plane 11 but the joistick is on twist mode.The rudder movment is not working.
Try recalibration in Windows and make sure it is working ok
First of all I want to say I really enjoy your video I'm 2 years late, but I do have a question I hope you respond is it hard to calibrate because I have the throttles and the auto break and the flap setting. I've had it for a while but I've never gotten around to hooking it up because I'm thinking it's going to be too hard let me know if you can recommend or do you have a video on how to calibrate thank you

What I see happen a lot in the movie is that it moves if you don't hold it with the other hand. This is probably because it is to light?
The T1600, I didn't like because it had this weird resistance at the centre, made it difficult to do fine control inputs.. Seems like this stick, on looking again, doesnt have this issue?.

The thing I find unrealistic is that when you bank the aircraft you have to hold the stick to the side you want to bank to, or the plane will return to straight and level flight. I am only a former weekend (100 dollar hamburger) Piper Cherokee pilot, not a professional pilot, but in that plane, and similar ones I flew, you would turn the wheel in the direction you wanted to bank, but when the bank angle was what you wanted you would return the wheel to neutral, and the aircraft would pretty much retain the bank angle you wanted. Maybe the airbus side stick is different in real life? Or ,do I have my Thrustmaster adjusted wrong? My old Sidewinder joystick, which I used on previous FlightSims games, operated pretty much as I mentioned about my weekend pilot experience.

Isn't that to do with the sim though? I don't have this stick yet but I do play MSFS 2020 with an Xbox controller I apply pressure on the joystick to roll and once I let go, the joystick returns to neutral and the airplane maintains its roll angle. Do you have any assists turned on in whatever sim you use? Might be what causes this behaviour.

i know it’s not ideal but can you use the joystick and flaps spoiler thrust levers for a boeing aircraft? it will feel weird but it should still work great right?

Yes it does, it is a really smooth excellent flight sim experience, even for space sims!

The problem with the T16000M that this stick is based on is that the base buttons are pretty shit to use at all.
It's too easy to activate the wrong buttons, since they have almost no separation (imagine your keyboard key cap tops had no spacing between them).
The spring is also way too strong, so much so that the most common mod for this stick is to clamp the spring, which can cause re-centering issues.
On the T16000M there is an LED that activates the ring on the base whenever the stick isn't centered. It's quite distracting when you play in a dark room as going through center it will pull your eyes attention. That's why it's also commonly modded out by clipping the LED wire. I'd MUCH rather have a rubber skirt for the joint to keep dust and hair out than some annoying LED.
On the upside, the HAL sensor on the T16000M stick is WAY better than what Logitech has and it can be switched between left and right hand mode including the stick supports. It will also serve more hours than a Logitech device before needing replacement.
How is the Twist on this? I know the the 1600m biggest complaint is the twist sensor for going haywire and or breaking.

@@SimUKReviews so if you're flying a C152, the yoke's resistance is not fixed; it's dynamic according to what the aircraft's speed is. In a 152, you are directly fighting the wind with the aid of pulleys.
If an aircraft is slow, there is less airflow over the control surfaces for a given amount of time... thus there is less force to fight against.
Alternatively, if the aircraft is travelling faster, there is obviously more airflow.

I have a thrustmaster from Aibus. and I have a problem. as soon as I turn on engine 1 or 2 on the thrustmaster, the speed mode and aiming mode do not come to me in units, but add and subtract in tens. As soon as I turn off the engine with the thrustmaster controllers, they read and add the heading mode and speed mode again in units. how do I solve a setup problem? please
Would you mind explaining what exactly you're NOT getting on this compared to the regular t.16000m? I would like a stick primarily for MFS but it would be nice to still be able to use it for a combat sim like DCS... or would it be missing a key feature?
never had a t.16000m but branding, extra buttons is about it. I use this for rise of flight and when my second one arrives I will be looking at elite dangerous too no issue with that

No, but i do t have a T160000 so I can say they are similar.
I think about 4 extra buttons, yaw locking switch and style + brand name.

Sim UK the yaw action. Its the achilles heel of the stick as Z axis has a tendency to get real wonky over time

Sim UK yeh. Its a redressed T16000M. If you have a gander youll see the Z axis issues. Ive locked mine with the button and only use it occasionally. So far so good (i have the TCA also)

The joystick doesn’t seem to make the calibration x go to the extremes of the box, is that an issue with the software or the joystick or does it not matter?
It wont hit top left/right or bottom left/right because it isn't operating on a square, but a circle.
mine gets really twitchy when it get to the edge of the base and it makes it really hard to fly

Basically what it is is I just bought the throttle it's brilliant however when I move to climb let's say on my throttle it shows in the SIM as I have only moved it like 25% I hope that makes sense. So I downloaded Thrustmaster Hardware or what ever they call it and that has done the trick however it's extremely sensitive so now when I move it to say 10% the n1 with go to 40%. When I asked Thrustmaster they was so rude because my computer knowledge isnt very good. And just said uninstall but it's brand new anyway and I just plugged in and played then downloaded the hardware sorry I hope that makes sense and I really appreciate you taking the time to help.

Hi Reece, yeah kind of. So it is now super sensitive, but was originally the opposite way round. Long story short is the translation from real world to sim was terrible to start with, the software and firmware update improved things but need tweaking too...Honestly they are not perfect yet.
Maybe a reinstallation will help you, but I rather doubt it. Maybe look at the curves (sensitivity) and adjust things a little at a time, anything you change will have positive and negative effects but ultimately it is bespoke to you, what feels right is right for example.
Not that helpful I'm sorry to say, but I think adjustment might be your best option (unless it is unusable then a reinstallation by removing drivers might be your best bet) Hope that helps?
