Do you leave the pots sitting in the water the whole time?
@@pakbowl420 no, just enough to wet the soil
Can I cut a tall shoot into 2 or more pieces if there are enough nodes? I'm in Wisconsin zone 5B. If I take the cuttings in late summer, can I allow my pots to freeze over winter or do I need to keep them from freezing? I took some this winter and tried rooting them in my house like I've done with blackberries. I cut them into sections to have 2 nodes buried and 2 nodes above soil. After about 2 months they leafed out and actually popped out some berry blossoms. I haven't checked to see what the roots look like because it will still be a week or two until the weather is right to plant outside. Did I mess them up by trying to root them in winter?
@@gbaner1 im no expert but if they are growing/flowering i doubt you have messed up
@@gbaner1I hope so
I followed your advice last year and this year I have raspberries coming out of my ears. Thanks!!
My Gosh, You got me so excited!!!! 🎉 I can't wait to do cuttings in a few months. Wooooohoooo. LoooooVE sweet delicious red raspberries. ENJOY!!!
@@ddahstan6876 since I wrote that 8 months ago I did another round of cuttings and doubled my bushes. This year is going to be CRAYYYZEEEEE!
Um... you're not supposed to plant them in your ears..! 😛
A Co worker gave me a clipping of a Rasberry stem with flowers on it. A short stem. Don't know if it a golden boy. But can I put stem in water to grow roots system? Thank like your channel. Especially the Q/ A within 2 min .❤ from Chicago bratha.
YUCK!!! HE SAID 1 GALLON POTS.....LOL
Amazing videos. Spent $100 on a golden rasiberry (6 month old start) last year and u have single handledley saved all of my in laws the pain of buying them. All in all thanks for a nice money saver. U rock 🎉
I felt like I was in some sort of masterclass from all the knowledge shared. May God bless you with more wisdom sir. I'm so thankful! ☺️
Thanks so much for the kind words Collin!
Thanks!! First time grower of a raspberry bush
Cheers Kelli, best of luck!
Appreciate your straight to the point and no froth style of narration. Thanks for the lessons.
This is incredibly helpful. The summary at the end was excellent. Thank you so much!
Cheers rebeca, thanks for watching!
Thank youuuuuu!!!!!! You just solved the mystery for why I killed my transplants. I poked a hole with a stick to put the canes in and they weren’t able to root because of the air pockets. I transplanted 50 and only 2 survived 😣. I also did it in the spring. You’ve given me hope so I’m trying again in late summer. It’s not too late! Thanks from Washington state
Do I keep them moist? I noticed that you still had the soaking when you put the primocanes in the soil.
Do they need sun or shade while they are taking root? When do I put them in the garage to overwinter?
This is my first season, I've been binge watching your videos for weeks, the knowledge I have learned from you has been invaluable. Thank you so much. Kindest regards from Scotland.
I've been mowing my garden and ended up with involuntary raspberry cuttings. Thank you for sharing how to save them ❤
Excellent tutorial - clear, concise and easy to follow. I'm off to pre-soak my pots and take some cuttings a bit later. I will be back to give an update in a few weeks! Thanks
How's it coming along?
@@teriw5313 yeah I want to know too.
Did your cuttings take?
Great explanation & demonstration, thank you. Fingers crossed for my cuttings 🙂
Very informative explanation. No BS direct to the point. Subscribed. Thank you!
Thanks so much for the support and for watching!
thanks for the video! everyone else seems to talk about cuttings but don't show us how to actually cut the cuttings and what to look for when we do it so thanks for actually taking the time to show us! I just wish I could start it now...
Thanks so much for watching. The cuttings really do root easy, but even easier is the suckers. And you can nab them at any time you want. So maybe try a few of those as they appear! Cheers!
There's a railroad near my house in Philadelphia PA. Along the chain link fence are dozens of wild raspberry bushes growing a beautiful crop of dark red berries. While I don't know if they are safe to eat, because I don't know what kind of chemicals might be in the soil over the past 100+ years, I thought it might be possible to take some cuttings and try to grow them in some good potting soil with a rooting hormone. So today I watched this video first, then I went and took six cuttings to try and grow in my back yard. 🤞🤞 Hope they make it. My daughter loves raspberries and blueberries. But she's only had raspberries from the supermarket. I'm hoping to share the wild raspberry experience with her so she can experience the difference between the two.
Excellent advice and video! Appreciate how you promote self-reliance !
You are awesome and I love the way you teach. Short and straight to the point. You answered ALL of my questions. NICE
Hey, glad you liked, appreciate the nice words. :-)
I did not know they were easy to propagate like this. THANKS!
Cheers Andi, they really are. The suckers are easy to regrow as well!
I want to eliminate my front lawn and just have rows and rows of raspberries!!
Jeff Favelle idk how big your lawn is but that sounds extreme. I’d say getting a variety of different fruit perennials would be the best option.
Jeff Favelle me too

Check with your city zoning if living there. Many cities do not allow gardens in front yard. Peace.
Yummy
thank you so much!
found orange raspberries in a park, completely free! :D so excited!
Depending on when you read this, one of my customers has decimated his raspberry plants. I grabbed a load and I'm doing some of this to grow more 😁. I'm just hoping it works. Thanks, some of this information makes me think I have a good opportunity to grow more.
Hey best of luck, usually the shoots are very easy to root, but certain times of the year it can be tricky. Let us know how it goes!
@@TheRipeTomatoFarms I will thank you. With the advice you're giving I'm hopeful that it won't only be fruit we grow going into next year.
Just had bad storm and a branch got broken off of my plant, i hope this video helps me out, thanks for making it!
Fingers crossed!
Thank you so much for this video. I listen to my garden and my instincts were to find you today. NOW is the time to cut the chutes. My tiny patch from last year exploded this year and their all taller than I am! Next year, I should have tons of raspberries. Thankyou for your well done video and valuable information.
Hey, great to hear. Hopefully it's just the first of many big harvests!
Thank you. I bought a raspberry bush starter on a whim for my garden that's on my rental property not knowing it was going to do so well... I don't want to part with it when I move, so I'm going to try and get cuttings, at least.

It's great to see how far you've come in both production quality and structure in your videos.
Googled growing from raspberry cuttings today, and your vid was the top result. One of the suckers from the plant I got at the nursery fell off, so I'm gonna try to get it to root, so I have two plants next year!
VERY GOOD INFO. JUST WENT OUT TO PICK OFF SOME WILD BUSHES THAT HAVE NOT BEEN TOUCHED AND I BET YOU KNOW HOW TO GET CUTTINGS FROM THEM. AGAIN THANK YOU FOR SHARING SIR.

As always, you never disappoint, when I need to figure out how to deal with a new plant for my garden you have a video to help. Learned, yes you can plant them in a raised bed (you are) and yes I can root from cuttings. Thx again.

So awesome, thanks for watching! Best of luck with your Raspberries... They are the best!
Love this method!!
Thanks Ross, hope you get to give it a try!
Looking forward to trying this out on my black raspberries!! I got a question though, do you keep the pots in that water bath for a certain amount of time while taking root or is it just used to presoak the soil? Once they roots are established do you water from the top then? Also, do potted raspberries survive severe winters (in MN here) since they won't be established in the ground yet?
Since raspberries don't like to sit in water, I'd say just presoak. Dunno about snow, but you tried this last year so how did you get on?
Black and purple raspberries do not respond well to cloning via stem cuttings and are best propagated via tip layering.
@@krakenreality1877Could you explain what that is?
@@tammycornett5631 "Tip layering is a method of propagating plants by bending a stem to the ground and covering the tip with soil". Here's a video... ua-cam.com/video/4OLh_ZhfRVM/v-deo.html

Hi .. A few months ago. I found 2 raspberry seedlings in my tomato pots.
I use 3 different
Identifying Plant Apps.
All 3 apps told me they are Raspberries. Lol
Today they are 3" tall.
My question is.
How would you winterize these 2 little guys?
Maybe leave them in their pot , plant them in the ground .
Cover with leaves?
Or should I bring them inside under lights?
It's getting ready frosty here in Toronto at night.
I need to do something soon lol
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
All your videos are so informative.
This week is nice out.
I'm outside with the lawnmower chopping leaves for my Leafmold Bin.
Listening to your Play Lists.

Thanks for the raspberry propagating advice…I’m in Australia and can’t wait to try it…my raspberries are coming into their second year and I have flowers so hoping to get lovely fruit this year.
I'm in New Zealand, growing red, orange yellow and black varieties, the black one grew like crazy last season, how did your go?
THANKS SO MUCH - JUST TIME HERE IN AUSTRALIA TO DO THIS.
Great info but want to comment that I'm just seeing this video now and wow, your video quality has grown immensely. Same great content but excellent video quality in all of your later videos.
@@bigonprivacy2708 thanks H got noticing! Yeah, more cameras and just getting better with techniques over time helped!
@@TheRipeTomatoFarms As far as the raspberry goes, I bought one of those expensive ones from Home depot (I know, I was fleeced) and while it is green with many leaves, it still hasn't grown very much at all with the exception of the top. It is basically a twig with a bushy top that has kind of remained the same for the entire time (2 months now) even with good soil, 5 gallon bucket, good compost, etc. Very healthy but just not growing. Any advice for this 9a zone grower?
@@bigonprivacy2708 likely nothing wrong with the variety, more a problem with the individual plant. Take suckers as the pop up and start new plants from them. It's often the best way
@@TheRipeTomatoFarms Thank you!
@@TheRipeTomatoFarms Sadly there are no runners as of yet. It looks just like a topiary: 1 branch with a top of greens (cluster but no larger than 3" x 4" wide). Its like its trying to get better root established but after 2 months, I just don't know what the deal is.
I do have one recommended content item I bet EVERYONE would like to see; especially from someone as experienced as you. that is the whole when to stop fertilizing before harvest and is there any difference in timing when using fertilizer solids (powders/granules) vs concentrated liquid vs fermented liquified greens/compost? No one seems to cover "just that" in detail.
Anyway, great channel. Absolutely one of my favorites and your "narrating" is spectacular. Cheers from the US southwest!
It's mid September in Ohio. I'm a week into taking the cuttings I was telling u about. I'm keeping mine humid, I decided to do that after seeing alot of wilt. My question is when is the latest time to plant them to hope they survive the winter? Or must u keep them indoors all winter?
Just started a sucker, then watched your video let uknow progress

THANK YOU FOR EXPLAINING THE NODES LIKE THAT . WHOOPS CAPS LOCK
This is amazing. It’s given me the confidence to try taking my own cuttings. Quick question; when do you take the pots out of the water?
Thanks Erwyd. I only leave the pots soaking for a half day. It's just to ensure that the soil is good and most all the way through. It's a great way to water really dry soils too. Because you know the pot will be good and moist all the way through, evenly!
Ah brilliant. Thanks for clearing that up.
@@erwydconwyjester7321 no problem. It works great for really large pots in the summer, like if you're replanting a tomato or pepper plant. Gets the soil good and wet before you plant, without drowning the plants after you plant!
@@erwydconwyjester7321 Its also a technique that mass growers use not just for bigger pots, but also seedling/speedling trays. Often, the seedling potting mixes can be quite hydrophobic. So we soak the trays for a few hours to get the medium good and wet. It eliminates the worry and guesswork, plus you don't have to really water or disturb the plants for the first week!
Thank you so much for this video. I need to try this! I wonder if it works well both for early fruiting and the autumn fruiting varieties...
Yes, I have pruned and restarted my June Bearing and Everbearing both the sane way. Cheers!

I love your videos! By far my favourite to watch for anything gardening related.
I'm wondering.. after the shoots have been potted.
Do they need to be kept in a greenhouse or similar set up to increase humidity? Or will they prosper regardless?
And what do I do for winter? Bring them inside? Or leave them outside?
I am wondering the same thing. I was planning on keeping them inside. I l'm just wondering if I have to keep them under lights or not
Once they are rooted and growing, they will prosper.
Depending on your weather and number of canes, I would bring them in the first winter. They will go dormant.
Excellent video. Thank you for sharing. 👏👏👏
After the plants are started and rooted in the pot, how are they cared for during the winter? Do you leave the pots and plants outside to freeze or bring them into the house? I live in PA where the ground freezes every winter. Can I expect the plants to produce berries the first year?
Brilliant, thank you. Stella
