How is preach the antagonist when Cochise was the one that convinced preach to get in the stolen car? Cochise fucked preach”s ex girlfriend. Cochise was the unofficial leader of that group of friends and did not need any persuasion from preach at all. Preach was never upset that Cochise was going to college. That was just something mentioned by one of the friends. There was no antagonist in this movie. I don’t think the movie needed one.
Preach was already Public Enemy Number One with Stone & Robert when he did his intellectual chatting at Martha's playing Dice. When Preach's Mother screamed "Get That Belt!" I fell out laughing.
i respect peoples opinions, but im not gonna sit here and let you bash my favorite character of this classic film. the hot head was the real chump. damon came into the party looking for a tangle. he had that on him when he dropped that quarter, plus hes known for starting stuff. tyrone got punched, cochise went in.
Preach nor Chise knew that Stone and Robert was out of jail at the time of the confrontation over the ex girlfriend. Stone and Robert explicitly stated to Damon, at the hangout, they made bail earlier that day. Furthermore, Chise didn’t find out about Stone and Robert until Brenda told him Preach encountered them at the shop 20 mins prior. I feel Damon was the true antagonist. He started the fight at the party. Damon also instigated the confrontation with Preach at the hangout. Finally, Stone and Robert beat Chise up but were done with him when Damon decided to even the score from the party and sucker punch Chise, resulting in Chise’s death. I kind of even excuse Stone and Robert because from their perspective it did seem that Chise and Preach snitched at the police station. Although, in reality that wasn’t true.
@Charles Combs, Damon was antagonistic but to be an antagonist to a protagonist, a character would have to be against whatever the protagonist is trying to achieve or obtain majority of the story. Damon came in towards the third act actually being involved in the story and that was just to add the element of Cochise's death.
@TheBenPatches if preach would stood.his ground like a man in Martha's that could had buy time for his right hand coming instead of apologizing of having sex wit sandra he can end the friendly fued by getting him out of trouble like he done b4 early in da movie cochise did in fact told stone and robert yah not beating up preach no matter what even if damon was there cochise would had bitch slapped damon told him mind his business preach should never tried to attempt to escape once stone and robert camed in at least stayed seated wit brenda
Well I thought I knew what an antagonist was I just thought it was the main villain in a movie but now that you broke down the true meaning you may have a point. But about preach not waking chise up is not true. He even says to chise “ wake up “
You have to watch it again, watch the scene where chise convinced them to get into the stolen car. That was a big trigger behind his demise. Entertaining analysis though with that said
And not to mentioned Chise wasn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer. He wasn’t that great on an intellect level. Although, Preach lack the desire to attend his classes, he was still intelligent he study poetry and history for fun and educated a lot of people around him from Brenda to Tyrone… Cochise even said he was going to copy from his history test in Mr. Mason’s class and Preach had to tell him to purposely get a couple of them wrong on purpose to make it look like you didn’t cheat.
@@all4joffrey92 Exactly! Also in it's own way it has a Godfather Theme to it. Remember when Sonny opened his big mouth to Sollozzo about The Tattaglias. He undermined the meeting and his father because he showed Sollozzo that there was tension in the ranks.
Also keep in mind that Chicago was next to Philadelphia, Detroit, and New York a Northern Mecca four Southern Blacks. It was home to Chess Records, Ebony Magazine and even Kiddie A Go Go that some say was the inspiration for Soul Train. Alot of Artists were heavily influenced by Chess Records. The Beach Boys, Beatles, Rolling Stones, and Three of the original Yardbirds Jeff Beck (RIP), Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton. Chicago was also mentioned in John Grisham's Book A Time To Kill where Lester Hailey Carl Lee's Brother lived but drove down to Mississippi when his Brother got arrested for killing The Two Men that raped his little girl.
@Rizz PSK, re-watch the movie. Preach did not wake up Cochise. Cochise and the Thug did peer pressure Preach into getting into the stolen car, but between Preach and Cochise, who got talked into driving? Preach. And this was after he heard one of the thugs say watch out for the man....
@@questionallthings5335 the version you saw may have edited that part out is the only answer i can give you... because i just watched it again and he indeed did wake Cochise up, i knew i wasnt trippin
I had to stop watching this at the 10 minute and 40 second mark. None of this makes any sense. Preach was not an antagonist and I think you are looking too hard to find a definition to his name. There was no symbolism involved in his name or the storyline. Preach was never an antagonist. If you watch the movie again, coaches did things on his own well. He was a leader and his own man all throughout the whole movie. Preach was not trying to hold coaches back from going to college, where did you get that from?
Right! Cochise was with the 💩 too. Everyone turned down the joyride opportunity except Cochise who then used peer pressure on Preach to get him in the car :”C’mon Preach, I KNOW you ain’t no square…”
These were supposed to be teenagers we’re talking about. Undeveloped brains, so yeah, Preach forgot about telling about how they really got out of jail because he’s seeing his best friend and his “girlfriend” together, and Preach never tried to go after any of the girls that were with Cochise. He was hurt. Also, Stone and Robert didn’t plan on killing Cochise. They just wanted to teach him a lesson with a few punches for what they thought was snitching. It was Damon who made the killing blow, and when Cochise didn’t move the both looked at Damon like ‘What did you do?’ before running off and leaving Damon standing there. Damon was mad after losing the fight.
great video man. just subscribed. watched film on loop last night. its a very peaceful ASMR. one day months ago it played while I was sleeping and I woke up in the middle with Brenda in the bed and I was like oh I felt good vibes from it. it's one of the most engaging films I've seen. could have been boring but it wasn't. nothing really happened but a bunch of mischief.
Truth be told, a lot of the production out of hollywood did not do a whole lot of 'character development'. Most films years ago were around ninety minutes long. The plot and story moved along. Sometimes, it seems back stories are boring and just time filler.
All the women in the world why mess with your friends chick wether he's treating her wrong it's none of your business Cochise was doing the same thing looking for some easy ass and that's what got him killed
@questionallthings5335 that depends on your interpretation of acting like it, if he was only about hitting it and quitting it, he wouldn't have bothered to apologize.
Preach was a damn fool, that's what he was. Let Cochise goad him into getting in a stolen car. Got mad cause Cochise smashed his ex Sondra..while he smashed Brenda who was way better looking. Preach dummy you got a ''W'' if Cochise wanted Sondra you shoulda been like ...well she's your problem now, no loss here. I've come to hate this movie
Cochise ain't want Johnny mae ass her gap 🦷 need like 6rices to gap that mf he wanted Sandra or she wanted him preach was jiving to get mad at him while he has a high yellow waiting for him in Cochise voice high yellow bitch lol

Correct
Damon
Thank you!!!!
As far as I'm concerned Turman should've won the Oscar for his RIVETING performance as Preach and Michael Schultz for Best Director
You're not Wrong!!!
Yup!

Don Cornelius filmed 'Soul Train' originally in Chicago before moving to L.A.
You'd never know this movie inspired what's happening. Characters were different except Raj.
Indeed
@ 3:59 ''Shut up and lay down on the ground, Fool''
But Preach did wake Cochise up in the classroom, you mentioned that he did not. Also Cochise persuaded Preach to get into the stolen car
It was Cochise who PERSUADED Preach into getting in the stolen car 🚗
I don't think that Preach was any more worse of an influence on Cochise than Cochise was on Preach TBH.
@@questionallthings5335 the version you saw may have edited that part out is the only answer i can give you... because i just watched it again and he indeed did wake Cochise up, i knew i wasnt trippin
Preach did wake Cochise up. He hit him twice in his arm and said wake up wake up.
This is based on a real life story of Eric monte
Didn't know that. Thanks

Cochise! But I feel you tho💯🤝
Thanks for saving me time!!!!! Two of the antagonists Ends up committing a robbery and an other joins the navy if I’m not mistaken…
So who was the leader Cochise or preach I think it was Cochise he was the ruthless one if u asked me while preach was more of the brains
Nah Cochise influenced preach to take that Joy ride that was Cochise ideal and was the lead to his Demise
Right! Cochise was with the 💩 too. Everyone turned down the joyride opportunity except Cochise who then used peer pressure on Preach to get him in the car :”C’mon Preach, I KNOW you ain’t no square…”

that scene in the movie theatre was of strange.why do we never see the employees of the theatre or the police when that huge fight breaks out?
Budget restraints. Could not hire the extras
Every characters had their flaws in this movie.

Thanks for watching

It was cochisr tht convinced preach to get in stolen car. Preach didnt want to go. 👀
All the other dudes had sense but when Cochise and Preach got out of jail before stone and Robert they were labeled snitches

Naw what got him killed was getting into a stolen car.
Preach did say he was in love to Brenda.
Did he act like it though?
@questionallthings5335 that depends on your interpretation of acting like it, if he was only about hitting it and quitting it, he wouldn't have bothered to apologize.
"Rosanne Rose' " ©
@Chardelra Conner, I have no idea what Rosanne Rose means.
"Rosanne Barr antagonizing others in comical form that cancelled the show.. Derived from this film not having her ethnical background tension of the time showcased like claimed and wanted it too. But due to the era of the film she showcased energy her school had that this school didn't showcase in authenticity toward hers" ©
Trying way to hard to make this some Karate Kid nonsense.
Not sure what you mean by that....thanks for watching
Are you saying like how people thinking Daniel was the antagonist?
