These poor kids of today.... they will never know how it was listening to REO in the High School parking lots of the 80's. Wow, what a time to be alive!
I am 65 yo. This is my all time favorite band. I lift weights to this song. I suffered much abuse from my parents. Keep Push in On by REO helped save me from suicide!!!
Every generation says the same thing. Awesome band though. I like how young people today are able to listen to all the eras of music, because it's so easily accessible.
REO keeps underselling this song. To me, this is definitely one of their best. The bass line is my personal earworm since 1982. Everything here is perfect, the lyrics, the singing, the keyboard, the guitar solo, and especially the drums and bass.
Always loved Gary Richrath's guitar playing. He was such an under-rated guitar player. Such a giant influence on me growing up. I will forever miss him. Rip Gary. I will never forget you and your special guitar playing.
Yeah, after they got rid of Gary, they never had any songs that sounded anything like this. It's like KFC deciding to take out the main secret ingredient in their 11 spices and herbs.
Criminally underrated song. Honestly, I thought this was one of REO's best written, best sung songs. Great harmonies, Gary jammin like always. Love this song!
Still my favorite album back my high school days 1980-1983. Golden days memories lane. Enjoy all Hits Songs No. 1 still remember requesting this Reo Speedwagon song back 1982
Music has to grow Chris , not everybody was ready for songs that came out at first . REO were musicians so they knew what they were doing and the people who heard their songs were no musicians , so not everybody heard what they had to hear . I love this band too , cause crew up in the 80's to , wonderful time .
Love you REO speedwagon!!! Love this song!!! Love the 80's!!! The world seems like it was a better place in the old days... Maybe , who knows... but in the musical universe... OMG , NOT DOUBT!!!!
La primera vez que escuché a Reo, fue como en 1981 en casa de primo que tenía el LP en acetato (In your Letter), me gustó mucho. Es una música que levanta el ánimo. La continué escuchando a través de los 80. En el 85 salió: no puedo con este sentimiento. La mayor parte de su música es muy buena.
Rest in peace Gary....you WERE the heart of this band...and the reason they were so successful....and thank you for all those years as a kid learning to play like you.
Looking how they all enjoy playing their instruments 🥁 🎸 🎹. So much fun! No auto tune bs like today! This song is closing in on 40 years! (1982) remember we made fun of our parents who listened to 40s to 60s music...well, here we are!!
Thank you REO for all the heart and soul that you poured into every piece of music. You can absolutely see the passion you all have as you perform. RIP Gary.
I was not feeling very good the first part of 1982, I felt alone, without friends, but upon hearing this song I was immediately uplifted and could carry on with my life. Thank you, REO Speedwagon, for a song that is among my most precious memories and in my happy music playlists.
The first REO album I bought was "REO". I bought it in 1976, right after I heard "Keep Pushin" . I then bought the Live album "You Get What you Play For", and I was hooked. I bought every album the band released between 1976 and 1983, including my personal favorites, "You Can Tune a Piano" and "Nine Lives". "Good Trouble" was the last REO album I bought and this song, in particular, had a lot to do with that. "Keep The Fire Burning" and "Can't Fight This Feeling" may have been smash hits, but they alienated many of their fans from the 70's who grew up on "Ridin' The Storm Out", "Roll with the Changes", "Meet Me On The Mountain", "Golden Country", and "Only The Strong Survive".
Agree 100% Still love the band and see them anytime they are close to Toronto but for the most part it is nostalgia.Kevin's voice is woeful these days, wish they'd change up the setlist and play more of the older stuff but it is what it is.
Saw REO twice in concert in the same year. Rocked the house both times! This is REAL music right here. None of the fake autotune crap that our kids call music.
Joseph De Vito They weren't my favorite and not even now, but they would be in the top five or top ten. However, even though not my favorite, I love their sound.
***** Take some simple advice from an elder, bypass everything in your generation that people call music, and go back to the music from the 60's, 70's and 80's, and you will never be disappointed.
Randel Dumas I also think this is one of their best along with, roll with the changes, but don’t remember them playing it in concerts. Will see them in June in the Bay Area. Will send a request in advance to play this song.
I saw them on this tour in '83 louisville, Freedom Hall, they did play this one that night, along with Stillness of the night, which IMO is the last great rocker they put out, after that Gary let Kevin have too much control over the writing, now why they really never played it after this tour is beyond me
This was one of my favorite song when was young and now it keeps direct to my heart, it's a real privilege to hear the song many, many times.Thank you so much for keeping the fire burning. God bless you all.
These are the band members that made their 80’s music so great…..Underrated band for far too long….the Rock HOF needs to get their act together and let REO in!!!!
That was a magical year, 1982. I remember it was in the top 40 countdown along with Allentown, Pressure, Who Can It Be Now and a few others. I was 11 going on 12 and I lived for music and still do.
I remember that a day like today he went to Puerto Rico and played this song for us because he knew what happened to Puerto Rico after the Hurricane Maria... I was screaming like crazy in his concert! Thank you Kevin
I always point out straight to Gary's guitar intro/solo when listening to this tune, not hard to do despite everything seems so perfectly built. Personally, it's almost the soul of this song, which happens to be my REO's favorite since 1982.
Even in the tough times REO never looses it's yearning to keep the fire burning all night long. Never do loose your fire and your flames! Hope is always better than just giving up! My favorite band. REO is that band that never gives in!
Genius music, here, folks. Couple of points: 1.) it has two solo/crescendo/bridges that mirror another - but not precisely so as to keep interest; one via keyboard, the latter via the late Richrath on guitar. 2.) Not sure if this was planned by the writers...but the lyrics have great artistic merit as they can be unmistakenly interpreted in at least two ways a.) on the level of a two-person relationship, like lovers b.) on a wider human scale as a social commentary. A very underrated song, in my opinion.
Absolutely a perfect way to describe this song. I’m sure Kevin Cronin would appreciate it. It’s one of my favourite REO songs too. Every bit of it is genius.
Well said, one of my favorite, if not my very favorite. Excellent individual riffs, song flow and perfect lenght. And as far as seeing them live probably the only group that sounded better live, and the same just louder. Best SixFlags concert i ever seen.
Underrated, id say so. Richrath had such a unique style, no one plays the 🎸 like Gary does, at least that's what Cronin said lol and how true. From the les Paul too the Marshall, you don't get any more real than that. Rip Gary, hope i can meet you on the mountian when the winter is dying and we can jam together.
I should be over Gary being gone, but I am stuck right there, still hard to believe. He was so much more than an amazing guitarist. His personality shone through, and he had such a great smile. He seemed so down to earth. I even loved his voice when he was just talking in interviews. Guess I am still remembering how sexy he was.. total package. His story could have been so much different had he beated alcohol and drugs. I wish more bands/members would take a stand for clean, drug - free living, and change the image for kids seeking to make it in the industry. R I P Gary ❤
This solidifies my memories of that time in my life. 💖Thank you CJS❤️ You saved me, I'll always remember and will love you forever, wherever you are ❤️
My brother died a few days ago. Now there is so much sadness in my life. But this song shows, that the world will keep on turning and we will keep one another be strong. That is the essential message. Keep pushin' and best wishes from Germany!

True! It was always cool to here REO blasting from a car or someone's basement! My neighbour's often...

Awesome band though. I like how young people today are able to listen to all the eras of music, because it's so easily accessible.
I'm 18 and at this time it's like feeling weird just knowing reo speedwagon, it shouldn't be like that😅
They are playing next week in Toronto and I think I am going to bring my teenage boys, maybe even the wife!
My absolute favorite REO Speedwagon song. Nothing compares.
Yep. This is their best one..andt hat's with plenty of great REO songs competing!
They wouldn't like this. They would not understand.
REO keeps underselling this song. To me, this is definitely one of their best. The bass line is my personal earworm since 1982. Everything here is perfect, the lyrics, the singing, the keyboard, the guitar solo, and especially the drums and bass.

Yeah, after they got rid of Gary, they never had any songs that sounded anything like this. It's like KFC deciding to take out the main secret ingredient in their 11 spices and herbs.
I don't know much about actual playing(I am an air guitar virtuoso though), but I really enjoy watching him play. He's got a great feel and style.

Oh Gary😢. GREAT SONG. Gary’s SOLO at the end GENIUS. One of the most underrated rock guitarists ever. He was soooo good.
He wasn't an 80s shredder.
But Gary was the man. A real heart and soul rock and roll guitar man. He's missed.

A truly legendary group
Their #7 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 from the summer of 1982
Not too hard. Not too soft! Just the right amount of intensity!! Great song!!
Es un temazo! tiene mucha energía y musicalmente hablando los coros tanto del bajista y baterista mientras el pulso y ritmo de la canción son exigentes lo hacen muy complejo.
