I was in one of his trumpet masterclass in high school. He had arranged a regular wind ensemble piece for 75 trumpets! It wasn’t first suite but it had a military theme. I was assigned the off-stage distant solo and he spent like an hour with me DURING REHEARSAL back stage just chatting and giving me tips. The other 74 players were just sitting g and waiting for us to come back… I was like 15 and had no idea whose presence I was in.

Yeah he's a champ, a group I was part of hosted him for s couple of concerts and got to have a private session. Friendly, personable guy with absolutely astounding abilities. If he taiught me anything it was to get out of the rut of my pedagogical old warmup and practice routines and diversify, mix it up, have some fun for a change - advice which I took to heart and was real benefit.
I forget what he had just played in the church concert, but it ended on what I thought was a lovely high G (or double G to those who call a high G a "double" G), and a lady in front of me said to her friend "I think I'm deaf now".

I felt lucky to see ol' Allen at Sam Houston State University in 2015. The Bill Watrous Jazz festival/masterclass/clinic was badass. One of my favorite college memories.

My first season in the orchestra I still play with our soloist on the opening concert was Mr Vizzutti and he killed it. I knew nothing about him prior to that concert but my roommate at the time was a trumpeter. I mentioned to him that Allen was our soloist and he lit up with, “OMG! MFing Allen Vizzutti played?! That must’ve been phenomenal!”
