"It is important not to overstate the risks here. In the US, one of the biggest EV markets in the world, electric vehicles were involved in about 25 fires for every 100,000 sold, compared with 1,530 for gasoline cars and 3,475 for hybrids, according to data from the US National Transportation Safety Board."
The good old FT where facts and balanced analysis prevail.
Many states of the US are not very strict on vehicle inspections like the MOT inspection we have in the UK. It would be interesting to see how the UK figures compare. Unfortunately, due to "inaccuracies" in identifying/reporting the type of vehicle at the source of the fire, I'd have to take the UK figures with a pinch of salt.
Insurance costs rise for us all because some people think having spontaneously combusting EV's are actually going to save the planet .
Source?
its not about saving the planet, its about making sure you dont have access to flammable liquids like petrol, just in case you get desperate enough to do so one day when a new law is passed
@@JaskanFactor you mean they're coming for my gin? Noooooo
Did you see the boy in China, his electric bike battery went off in a lift. He was cooked.
That footage is harrowing 😳😳
Truly shocking video.
We think your channel brings the REAL news about E.V.'s
Thank you!
Funnily.... Almost all the ads that come on while we are watching your channel are all for new E.V.'s etc.
All the best Geoff! We have a 17 year old dielsel!😊
Amazing that ten years ago fire investigators could find the seat of any fire in 15 mins and tell you what brand of ciggy caused it.! Today..meh
i remember when all the companies got thier weather data from Met office , today meh
On a tangent talking with a motorsport fan this weekend I was told the idea of electric cars in motorsport had been dropped on safety grounds due to in a accident the cars could electrify make the cars live with high voltage and rescue impossible. Can anyone confirm this
That's not how electricity works
We need to see the EVidence
No, no, it's always a diesel!
I didn't realise I have EVphobia as well.
I think Ron Skinner sponsors Mark Williams the snooker 🎱 player.
They do
And a bunch of salvage yards burned down. At least 5 in Sweden.
My nephew lives right next too it there was explosions going off left right and centre , my grandfather bought cars off Ron when he had a small petrol station 40 plus yrs ago , they are good too deal with , right this comes from a. Member of my family who knows someone who,s in the know , electric cars we’re being charged over night, skinners and sons have three other dealerships in wales Ron skinner passed away some yrs back he was a nice bloke , I think he had Alzheimer’s, so I’m saying this wasn’t done deliberately there are self made multi millionaires they started off with. Hardly anything a small petrol garage the business is worth a hell of a lot more as a going concern he sells a hell of a lot of quality cars at really good prices
Wonder how many of these dealerships were PLC’s or independent dealers….
Everytime i pass a EV charging station I have the urge to play Electric Six Danger High Voltage up loud. The lyrics are now understandable now.
Lisbon Airpot Portugal long stay carpark fire a few days ago. Over 100 cars crisped. Finger points at a milk float being the culprit. You'd need a 24 video to mention all the dealership fires in China.
Dont forget that many dealerships are near bankruptcy due to lack of sales, whos to say these are not issurance scams.
Well hopefully the dealer had cctv inside the building and it recorded remotely to the cloud.
Unfortunately nowadays reporting the true cause is not necessary going to happen. Reporters and firefighters and also the victims may not be permitted to talk about the circumstances for some reason.
The dealer may be required to be silent or the insurance company will refuse payment.
In that case, CCTV will be of no help for the general public
Will these fires affect the prices of used cars?
DEW
nice to see more ppl knowing what DEW's are...
Question too ask is how many car dealership fires were there between 1990 and 2000 so we can compareif the number is higher now??
Just because they say a year for a model doesn't mean it's only vehicle registered that year it could be all vehicles manufactured that year and not registered but left sitting in a field waiting to be sent to dealers to be preregistered or sold.
Just this weekend, there was a fire in Lisbon in a car Park near the Airport that has been caused by a tesla. 200 cars have burned to the ground.
All those fires great for the environment ?????
I used to work for the passport office and once issued a passport to someone who was born in Honk Kong (instead of Hong Kong). I’ve never forgotten it and it makes me chuckle every time I think about it 🤣🤣🤣
Three days ago, 200 cars burnt to the ground in a dealership in Prior Velho, Lisbon, Portugal. The fire brigade report concluded that the fire was caused by an EV.
Just dodgy batteries in general, this week my local Council had a refuse truck fire, luckily managed to dump the contents on the road before the truck went up, picture in the weekly newsletter showed a substantial pack of old batteries a resident had put in the refuse bin. Looking to hire a skip for a garage purge and in large letters across my local skip company's website is 'Do not put batteries in our skips' (!). They too had a fire last year ..(Horrified at the increase in costs, +100% in 3yrs. Going to be car & trailer time). 🤔🙄🇬🇧
Are all these dealership fires putting all insurances up ?
My take on the insurance industry is it WILL get passed on to us all.
Great to hear the fadeout music.
Or was it an insurance job………..
When I first got into the graphic design business, upon visiting a long established printers, I found an old lady wearing somewhat eccentric outdoor clothes and a knitted woolly hat sitting on an upright chair in the corridor. She was reading two pages of text with her finger following the words.
At a moment that seemed appropriate, I asked her what she was doing. The boss of the printers saw me talking to her. His response was: She’s the best proof reader in the business. Do not even think of attempting to steal her from us…!
There’s now no such job as proof reader. And every passing day is proof of that sad fact.
And because I’m not Raymond Redington, I can’t remember her name.
Peace 🏴
Reports blame EV for fire which DESTROYED 200 cars at Lisbon Airport | MGUY Australia
Well, initially, yes. Later reports seem less sure.
So how many car 🚗 dealerships caught fire 🔥 before electric cars became forced on dealerships and us
Oh the screenshots and recap geoff!! HISTORICAL GOLD. 🎉🔥🔥🔥🔥
I have know Ron Skinner as I used to deliver fuel to him nearly 20 years ago. RIP I have had 3 cars of them and the service is nothing less than brilliant. I hope things will sort themselves out and they are ok....
They had a massive stock and I bet there were a lot of hybrids too! Even if a frying pan caused it the battery stock would accentuate it!!!!
This last sunday here in lisbon,Portugal,a massive fire broke out on a car Park near the airport.the cause?an electric car combusted itself taking another 200 plus vehicles with it plus the multistore building...
200 cars destroyed in fire at Lisbon airport.
Interesting as usual, but, tell me why have the news channels ALL gone very quiet on the Luton Airport Land Rover fire, what's going on?
Because it's not very exciting news
Family Business
And the Tesla artic crash in California, where it caught light. The fire service had to deploy a water tank to enable tankers to run a shuttle service to maintain a water supply to try and quench the flames.
Extremely Volatile
Definitely feature the volvo on the channel. Peaked interest when it's an r but not an r 👍🏻
L.G. Is enacting a recall on batteries in Australia at this very moment.
It was anEV that caused the fire in the roof at Somerset house last week get on it😮😮😅
There's a big recall on LG home batteries (for rooftop solar) in Australia. is there a connection? Don't know.
People's persons , they donate to charity's,
all the new show rooms have electrical points in the floor to ensure new car batteries are kept topped up. Might not be EV’s but electrical systems within the show room. How many Hybrid cars are going on fire?
There may (or may not) have been EV's in this showroom, but it seems that more and more car firms are using Lithium batteries in place of the conventional 12v lead acid ones.
So not only are electric cars more expensive to buy and insure, but its also more expensive to insure properties and businesses which house electric vehicles, yeah this EV push is going down hill fast ! GOOD !
Good morning Geoff, thank you for all the information if it wasnt for you I would have ended up with an EV as my next company car. My Nissan Quashqui diesel is still running well and I have a feeling they will try and pass an EV on me but no chance, and when they ask why I will tell them safety reasons.
The only way EV dealers can move their stock is when the fire department tows it away...
I doesn't need to be an EV to start a fire. If the fire gets to an EV, up it goes.
My old chap was in the car trade from the sixties to a few years ago , not one dealership fire or garage fire that I remember 😏
Net zero seriously has a large carbon pollution footprint from all the lithium battery fires.
Good video, thanks for telling us the facts.I do follow all news about EVs and its just getting worse.
20 EVs on their lot is 20 too many.
Not just car dealers but car park fires are also on the increase.
