Many friends growing up in Melbourne would pack into the car with the family and drive to the Gold Coast for school holidays. Myself, I have driven from Melbourne to Uluru to Darwin for a holiday. Australians are not opposed to a 2-3 hour drive to drop in for lunch with a mate.
Australia has 6 states and 2 territories, you can drive to all of them Except Tasmania which is the smallest state separated by the bass strait, just under the mainland. When you look at the Australian map you will see a little upside down triangle island beneath the mainland, that is Tasmania.
I mean if you need to go to somewhere like from Perth to Melbourne, for work or week holiday, you’d fly but if you want to see the country along the way and take your time, you’d drive.
When I was a child my dad would pack up the car and the trailer and we would drive around the US for four weeks, camping and visiting the sites in different parts of the country. We loved it.
I'm from Adelaide, South Australia. When I was a young lad, we would regularly go on a picnic to Victor Harbour; when my dad would say this to his British workmates, they would look amazed that we would travel that far just for a picnic. Back in the 50's and early 60's, it would take well over an hour to drive there on a two lane road; nowadays, with expressways and road widening, it probably takes about half that time.
I was thinking the same in my first video i watch of them but quickly realise their relationship look more like siblings relationship rather then a couple ..also once in a while they tell stories about their childhood ...
From an Australian, we travel by plane. Flights are so much cheaper than fuel, accommodation stop overs, car maintenance and all other costs associated with the long drives. Also a lot of Australia is a desert without access to facilities (especially if travelling from the east to the west).
I’m from Brisbane QLD, and I have to say domestic plane travel in Australia is VERY expensive - you often see people road tripping it around Australia. Plus, Australia does not have many domestic Airports (between 1 and 3 per state) so you can’t really travel via plane.
The cost of flights is not cheap like where you, when we lived in Cairns we drove to Brisbane, 17 hours. We made it easier by stopping twice for a nights stay. When I was a child we could get wizz fizz in a paper tube with a liquorice, you used the liquorice to get the wizz fizz.
I recently moved from Perth to Sydney and drove across with my Partner and our dog. I recommend everyone do the drive at least once, there is so much to see and do and depending on the time of year it can be a real eye opener. Driving it also allows you to play on the world's longest golf course spanning out 1365km over 2 States for something different 🙂

I live in South Australia and it’s definitely a mix of the two for travel preference! Road trips are a huge thing here and we have a very popular route called the Great Ocean Road that goes all along the coast! Most of the time it’s cheaper to drive from Adelaide (where I live) to Melbourne because of petrol costs compared to flights!
@@ThisWithThem when you make it to Australia great Ocean road will take a good part of a day to do. If you don't get tempted to stay some where on the road. Also roads very windy.
Best way to eat a tim tam is, bite the ends off each end, then use it like a drinking straw to drink the tea or coffee, be quick as it will melt then eat the rest. Send love from Australia
Sugar is different from country to country probably depending on climate. Also, in America, it used to be expensive because they had to import it from Mexico and the cocoa beans from places within the Caribbean. America's chocolate is also different because of the milk they use. Brands like Hershey's use UTC (Long Life Milk) to give longer shelf life which also makes it taste different. This is because they aren't as close to dairy farm suppliers.
Regarding sherbet/sorbet - we actually have both! Sherbet has a small amount of cream or milk, and sorbet does not! Driving distances for trips - I live in East Texas, about 90 minutes from Louisiana border. If I were to drive from the LA/TX border, to Texas New Mexico border, it would take 14-16 hours, depending on how fast you drive, traffic, and how many times you have to stop. Lol. Years ago my best friend and I drove from the town we live in straight through to Las Vegas and it took 22 hours.
Oh thank you Lona! Didn’t realise you had both. Are they both a frozen “ice cream” style or do you have candy sherbet? Oh wow. What a fun trip that must have been with your friend. So cool you could drive to Vegas from where you live. I just find that so amazing!!!
@@ThisWithThem yes, they are both frozen! I never k ew there were candy sherbets! I am a total candy-holic and y’all have had me goin crazy tryin to find new things I’ve never tried! We ended up driving the 4-5 hrs to LA a few days later and then drove straight back to East Tx after that. So fun but totally exhausting! Lol

Hi Kate and Alex, Hope you all are well! Wow! Another great box from Australia! You guys are so blessed to try all these amazing treats. Have a great week!
I'm from Newcastle in New South Wales (Australia). Flying is quicker and easier, but sometimes, depending how far you're travelling, a roadtrip can be probably more fun. Good company, good snacks, and good music are a must.
On the Tim Tams the sentence “ There is no substitute “ was originally an advertising slogan, “ There is no substitute for quality” . This referred to all of the Arnotts brand biscuits but has since been shortened and I believe is only now on the Tim Tams.

Ive done the drive to the top of Cape York, it took a couple of weeks. You cant really drive the trip straight through, particularly not if you want your vehicle to survive the trip. The road past Cooktown is incredibly corrugated and rough, its a seasonal dirt road which is only open during the dry season. Distance wise it might seem like a shorter trip but not something you'd want to do in reality.....besides, there are some awesome spots to stop and camp along the way and the journey is a big part of the fun of the trip. Apart from the novelty of being at the northern most point of the country there isnt a whole hell of a lot to do when you get there.
Not looking through all the comments to see if anyone commented on Superstore.. the show just aired it's last episodes in America this year. I only started watching it months ago (pretty sure they brought out one season a year) and I've only got the last season to watch.
I’m from NSW, Australia. We drive if holidaying - ofcourse break up the trip so you can explore more. But fly would be preferred otherwise. I haven’t seen any Aussie’s eat the Doritos but get out the Shapes, we love them.
You can drive or fly depending on the time of year (and how good your car is!) If it’s not school holidays flights across Australia are pretty cheap, but if you’re like my parents and keen for an 18 hour driving day from Victoria to Queensland then go for it! A lot of families take a couple of months off when their kids are young and drive around the country!
You also must pass the ball within 3 seconds. I have seen Goal Shooters take a one step dunk; but then they were well over 6ft tall. I actually came across a video from 1937, and was amazed that the umpire threw the ball down at the centre pass; when my sister played netball, it was referred to as 7 aside basketball(1960's).
That's amazing!! I don't think many people here would think that way! Make's me realise I should do more day trips and travel to some places a little further away from me!!
I'm Australian and usually choose to fly rather than drive. The reference to "there's no substitute" is the Arnott's brand slogan. Years ago their slogan was "there is no substitute for quality".
A tip for your mouth ulcers, a pinch of dry table salt on each one. Do not eat or drink, I do it right before bed. By morning they are lots better. Lay off the acidic food and drink for a day. You should be fit as a fiddle!
The reason Australian Cadbury chocolate tastes not as nice as the UK is due to the weather of all things. We don't get as much rain and our cows don't get to graze on such lovely green grass as yours. This makes our milk less creamy, if you tried our milk you would think it tastes so watery compared to yours. This makes the chocolate less rich and creamy. I was born in the UK and now live in Australia, it was one of the things I always hated growing up that Australian chocolate wasn't as good as the UK. Also Darrel Lee is pronounced like a barrel! I love your videos, keep up the great work!
That is so interesting. I would not have even thought about that but that is so true! Really can all stem from the weather!! Maybe i'll appreciate our rain more now 😂It's been a nightmare this May! Thank you so much Amy!
I live in Melbourne Victoria and my dads family lives in Bundaberg Queensland.. It's a 2 day drive from us to them and we have done it many many times, it's a beautiful drive if you stop along the way
Strawberries and Cream, Raspberries, ILK bottles, Bananas, Snakes, etc, are some of Allens lollies. Lifesavers do have a hole in the middle. The one exception is the Fruit Tingles. Regular Lifesavers are based on translucent fruit flavours.
Yes I have a Belgian friend who went for a Sunday drive 4 hrs multiple countries but I live in Victoria Australia and 4 hrs doesn’t even get me out of my state and Victoria is a small state.
As an American, I feel like most of us don't mind a long drive (10-15 hrs), but it really depends on the type of trip your envisioning. We tend to make the journey an integral part of the holiday, stopping at points along the way to sightsee and be a tourist. If it's more about spending time at your destination, we're likely to fly. Bear in mind that Americans don't usually have much more than 5-10 days off so time is limited. We do love driving to and thru our national parks though, so most people you run into there are travelling by car. ❤
Very good points!! If you have the time for the road trip it's great to take your time and enjoy the journey as part of your trip but not everyone has the time which is when a flight would be much better!
I’m from Tulsa Oklahoma and our ALDI will sometimes have biscuits that are like Tim tams and they are really good. The salted caramel one and double chocolate ones are really good. And cheap cause it’s ALDI
Ive had the ALDI version of Tim Tams......once. Never again......Ive never tasted a "version" of Tim Tams that was equal to, let alone better than, Tim Tams.
If you took a plane every time you went on holiday in Australia you would miss seeing the beautiful scenery. A road trip is the only way to see Australia.
Most people fly from one side to another because realistically it takes like 4 hours. I live in Melbourne and driving to townsville is a 3-4 day drive with stops over night. Driving to Perth is 2-3 days
2:53 a neighbour had some visitors from the UK, back in the ‘70s, and wanted to take them to Ballarat from Melbourne, which is a day trip for us (134 km)n the visitors were shocked it wasn’t an overnight trip!😅
It's a good 3-3 1/2 day drive across Canada, and that's with no stops Our Marvelous Creations bars in Canada are portrait oriented as well We have a version of the sherbet in Canada called Lik'M'Aid. It comes with a candy stick to dip into the powder which you can eat after. It was a huge thing back in the late 80's early 90's when I was a kid.
Woah!!!! But that is so amazing you can drive it!! Funny ours are landscape then! The Lik'M'Aid sounds a lot like something we also had. Very popular also back in the 90's!!
I have been watching your videos for a while now and I find myself in the store shopping thinking I bet Kate and Alex would like this! Wish I could send you guys a box from Minnesota USA. Love you guys see you next week!

We have that 5 gum too in Germany, I remember at some point, when I was 15 or 16, it was new and everybody was totally obsessed with it. It was kind of cool or fancy to have them, especially since (for me at least) its a pit pricey for the few pieces you get compared to other brands. But the flavors are great. I remember loving the watermelon
i live in Sydney , Australia and majority of us drive to one of the most popular places in Queensland... the Gold Coast, and it takes 12 hours to drive and 1 hour on a plane !
Im from South Australia and tasmania is still a state in australia even though it is off the coast and also your meant to try and rip the mintie wrapper as long as you can with out it tearing apart and ive never seen anyone with a 5. Hope this helped from down under🇦🇺💚
I had to laugh when Kate said about a big boobed women could move it around a coroner ,A few years ago at a ugly sweater party I made my hubby and mine ,I made mine with two snowmen and their noses were pointy carrots and everybody started to laugh. Because they could see the carrots coming around the corner before they saw me!😂I. Have never seen Garlic. Bread flavored Doritos before? Will have to go look for them this weekend. Take care guys and have an awesome weekend ahead! Hugs from Lancaster, Pa.💓😂💓😂
hahahaha 😂 that jumper sounds hilarious!! love that Definitely look out for the garlic bread Doritos they were soo good! 😍 Thank you Roberta! You too!! Hope you have a wonderful weekend, hugs to you too 💗
In Australia it really depends on how much time you have, sometimes you might fly but then you miss all the little places that truly are beautiful, hope you enjoy the Aussie treats ❤️ Yes there are other brands that replicate Arnotts biscuits but they are just not as good, hence the saying on the pack ‘There’s no substitute’ 😀 @16:05 is the correct pronunciation of Darrell Lea
Yes that is so true! If you can afford to take more time driving means you get to see some places you would miss along the way in the air! We loved them, thank you 💕 Other brands that do dupes just never get them as good do they!! Thank you!!!
Sometimes the trip is the vacation. My husband and I love to take road trips. One I have never done is clear across the US, but I certainly would love that.
I live in Australia. Last month my kids and I drove from the New South Wales/Victorian border all the way to Bundaberg Queensland and it took us two days. It’s about 1600km and about 18 hours drive. We love flying but it’s too costly (about $2500 return for the four of us) where as driving costs less than $1000 return.
Hi! Aussie here🇦🇺 we definitely do drive long distances but I find it’s definitely a different kind of holiday. If you just want to go on a holiday to a specific location that is in a different state most people will catch a plane. However if you want to go to multiple cities then you’d usually take a car to do a kind of road trip. However it also depends on whethef you want to hire a car on your holiday because you may as well just drive yours
I live in Perth and have driven to Melbourne once but flown dozen of times. A drive across the country is very much and adventure, not just travel: there’s not much in between! I took a full week to get over, taking out time and stopping in the tiny towns, drove back in three days with long drives.
We went cross country a few times. Once, when we moved from Feeding Hills, MA to Stuart, FL. Once going from Stuart, FL to El Paso, TX to visit my grandfather, and once from Stuart, FL to South Deerfield, MA to see other relatives. Feeding Hills, MA to Stuart, FL - 19 hr 5 min (1,318.4 mi) Stuart, FL to El Paso, TX - 26 hr (1,832.6 mi) Stuart, FL to South Deerfield, MA - 19 hr 56 min (1,346.6 mi) My Dad drove all the way on each trip.
Try biting the ends off the Tim Tam then put one end in your tea and drink the tea through the biscuits, do it quick then eat the biscuit, it melts in your mouth.
I’m from the central coast in nsw and every couple of years my family drives over to Perth to see family. We sightsee on the way so it takes us just under a week to drive.
When you asked about the flying or driving to places my family drives sometimes flies others. It all just depends on money. It is a lot cheeper to drive then fly.
Wizz Fizz used to be in a bag with the top folded into a triangle and stuck down. It had a hollow tube of liquorice inside so you could suck the sherbet up through it. We also had sherbet cones with marshmallow tops that looked like ice cream. They also had a liquorice tube poking out of the marshmallow.
The sherbet with the liquorice inside isnt wizz fizz.....cant remember the brand off hand but wizz fizz has always come in the little packets with a spoon.....or at least it has for the entirety of my 53 years.
@@ThisWithThem yeah it is.... Being from here we don't really notice how much of a different blessing it is. I can drive to 6 states that boarder me within a day or less.
Fun fact about the health star ratings: they are based off categories of food ie, all chips/crisps are ranked based off each other so even though they aren’t typically the healthiest food if they have the best macros compared to other chips they get a high ranking. So you can’t trust the stars as it doesn’t actually equate to health.
Just a heads up about Cadbury Australia they are combined wuith the company Red Tulip and since the 2k they chsnged their flour ingredient to halal certified , Most Chocolates that they combine are with classic chocolate bars from the 80s . Yes cherry ripe was owned by cadbury but was combined with red tulip...
🦘 What a fabulous box from Timika !! When we were kids my dad have five weeks of vacation. We packed up the station wagon and were off. We went to the east coast many times. My dad would drive in the day and my mom all night. I kept my mom awake, cause I am a night 🦉. And with four kids it was done on the cheap ! I love seeing the sights along the way. Oh, my dad always got a few speeding tickets. As you drove through Texas there is a steakhouse where if you could eat a HUGE steak 🥩 and all the sides in a certain amount of time it was free. Thanks for the excellent video !! Blessings from California. 🐨
Wow!! Love that!! Bet those trips were wonderful!! How amazing you could all travel together for the 5 weeks! You must have seen so many sights along the way!! Haha 😂 No way, I wonder how many people actually managed to eat it in time!
NOOOO you’re meant to suck on the fruit tingles until there’s a hole in the middle!!!

I was dying when they were doing that
Them trying to make the longest minty with the actual minty .. I laughed - cute

I'm Australian and usually choose to fly rather than drive.
The reference to "there's no substitute" is the Arnott's brand slogan. Years ago their slogan was "there is no substitute for quality".
Thank you for explaining!! 😀
They all look good hope everyone has a great day or night
A tip for your mouth ulcers, a pinch of dry table salt on each one. Do not eat or drink, I do it right before bed. By morning they are lots better. Lay off the acidic food and drink for a day. You should be fit as a fiddle!
Thank you for those tips Sadie!! And good shout about doing it before bed. Haven’t tried that before. Will definitely be giving that a go thank you 🥰
The reason Australian Cadbury chocolate tastes not as nice as the UK is due to the weather of all things.
@@ThisWithThem hope it gets sunnier for you soon! 💛
I live in Melbourne Victoria and my dads family lives in Bundaberg Queensland.. It's a 2 day drive from us to them and we have done it many many times, it's a beautiful drive if you stop along the way
I’m from South Australia and before Covid I would drive 14 hours to Victoria a few times a year. There are quite a few scenic drives along the way.
I live in QLD & Townsville is still a 15hr drive.
Wow!!
Ohh yes that’s what I was expecting. That makes sense then that the tingles are different!
Fruit Tingles were bought out by life savers ( nestle) about 10yrs ago which is why they are now life savers
You say the 'Darrell' in 'Darrell-Lea' the same way you would say the 'Daryl'
that‘s why i love living in germany, there are literally 9 countries that take less than 10 hours to drive to 😍
So amazing!!! That is so cool you have those pretty much on your door step!
Even more. 11.
11 countries I mean.
Yes I have a Belgian friend who went for a Sunday drive 4 hrs multiple countries but I live in Victoria Australia and 4 hrs doesn’t even get me out of my state and Victoria is a small state.
I absolutely love this channel
Yaay pleased to hear this 😀♥️
As an American, I feel like most of us don't mind a long drive (10-15 hrs), but it really depends on the type of trip your envisioning.
Siblings? That explains everything!
haha 😂
I also liked when you got goodies from Italy
Yes!! Loved those
You’ve got to remember the centre of Australia is very arid and inhospitable, so it’s cheaper and safer to fly!👏👏👍🇦🇺
I’m from Tulsa Oklahoma and our ALDI will sometimes have biscuits that are like Tim tams and they are really good. The salted caramel one and double chocolate ones are really good. And cheap cause it’s ALDI
How good!! 😍
Portrait style bars take up less width on the shelf so you can stock more of them on each aisle/shelf!
I had not even thought about that!! Good point
It's a good 3-3 1/2 day drive across Canada, and that's with no stops
Our Marvelous Creations bars in Canada are portrait oriented as well
We have a version of the sherbet in Canada called Lik'M'Aid.
Hehe love that!!! 💗You're too kind thank you.
Love to you too see you next week!
We drove as a family from Sydney to Perth and back which took 5 weeks! Love your videos!
Amazing!!! What a trip that must have been. Thank you Emily!!
Haha my UA-cam suggestion showed me your first video from 4 years ago and it is amazing and fun to see how much you all have changed . Thanks for bringing some fun into these stay at home Covid days
It’s good to see you getting stuff from other countries, you seem to get a lot from the states, ❤️
We do love when we can try some other countries too!! 😋 very delicious 😋♥️
@@ThisWithThem I love goodies from down under
That is sooooo true !!!
If you ever want to try another box full of Austrian candies and snacks, I'd love to send you one. 😊
I enjoy watching your videos so much. 🥰
You’re too kind. Thank you so much Rosie 🥰♥️
@@ThisWithThem I know you already had a box a while ago, but there are a few more austrian sweets I think you would really enjoy. 😊
Even though I live in Australia, I'd be stoked if someone sent me a box like this!!!
i live in Sydney , Australia and majority of us drive to one of the most popular places in Queensland... the Gold Coast, and it takes 12 hours to drive and 1 hour on a plane !
Im from South Australia and tasmania is still a state in australia even though it is off the coast and also your meant to try and rip the mintie wrapper as long as you can with out it tearing apart and ive never seen anyone with a 5.
Hope this helped from down under🇦🇺💚
Tasmania is where Cadbury chocolate is made! Best place in Australia to live xx
I’m from Townsville and every Christmas we drive to Melbourne to see the family and it takes a day and half but most people take a little longer
Hugs from Lancaster, Pa.💓😂💓😂
hahahaha 😂 that jumper sounds hilarious!! love that
Definitely look out for the garlic bread Doritos they were soo good! 😍 Thank you Roberta! You too!! Hope you have a wonderful weekend, hugs to you too 💗
In Australia it really depends on how much time you have, sometimes you might fly but then you miss all the little places that truly are beautiful, hope you enjoy the Aussie treats ❤️
Yes there are other brands that replicate Arnotts biscuits but they are just not as good, hence the saying on the pack ‘There’s no substitute’ 😀
@16:05 is the correct pronunciation of Darrell Lea
Yes that is so true! If you can afford to take more time driving means you get to see some places you would miss along the way in the air! We loved them, thank you 💕 Other brands that do dupes just never get them as good do they!! Thank you!!!
Sometimes the trip is the vacation. My husband and I love to take road trips. One I have never done is clear across the US, but I certainly would love that.
Yes you're so right!! Make the journey a part of the trip and enjoy the travel!
Very true!! The journey definitely depends on the type of holiday you want!
I live in Perth and have driven to Melbourne once but flown dozen of times. A drive across the country is very much and adventure, not just travel: there’s not much in between!
I took a full week to get over, taking out time and stopping in the tiny towns, drove back in three days with long drives.
I was salivating over the Tim tams. Love those.
haha they're so good 😍
We went cross country a few times. Once, when we moved from Feeding Hills, MA to Stuart, FL. Once going from Stuart, FL to El Paso, TX to visit my grandfather, and once from Stuart, FL to South Deerfield, MA to see other relatives.
Feeding Hills, MA to Stuart, FL - 19 hr 5 min (1,318.4 mi)
Stuart, FL to El Paso, TX - 26 hr (1,832.6 mi)
Stuart, FL to South Deerfield, MA - 19 hr 56 min (1,346.6 mi)
My Dad drove all the way on each trip.
Try biting the ends off the Tim Tam then put one end in your tea and drink the tea through the biscuits, do it quick then eat the biscuit, it melts in your mouth.
I’m from the central coast in nsw and every couple of years my family drives over to Perth to see family. We sightsee on the way so it takes us just under a week to drive.
that's nice you sent her a box of British foods/candy/etc in return ♥
When you asked about the flying or driving to places my family drives sometimes flies others. It all just depends on money. It is a lot cheeper to drive then fly.
In Australia Cadbury's blocks used to be 250g! And they are called beanies because M & M's are trademark Mars corporation.
No way! We had something kind of like that over here in the UK with liquorice as a straw to dip
I’ve never seen Wizz Fizz with liquorice, they’ve always been in the bag with the little spoon.
The sherbet with the liquorice inside isnt wizz fizz.....cant remember the brand off hand but wizz fizz has always come in the little packets with a spoon.....or at least it has for the entirety of my 53 years.
USA..... I have flown and driven to different states and I prefer driving. Time or not being longer.
So cool you can drive from state to state
@@ThisWithThem yeah it is....
No way!!! Did not know this, thanks Kiara!!
Those grain waves with a tsatziki dip is just heaven
Oooo sounds yummy. I’m gonna try that. Thanks for the tip
I’m in Australia and personally I love road trips and I’m scared of planes so I would drive.
Hi guys, Jules from NSW australia, happily driving anywhere it is so lovely
Lovely to see things along the way! 😀
Scotch fingers... also known in my family as " share bikkies" 😃 because you can snap them and share them!
Haha 😂
No way, I wonder how many people actually managed to eat it in time!
I’m from WA and literally wouldn’t even drive to like, Exmouth since I can fly
Me too, I was posted to Exmouth…love that place and drove 14 hours just to see my boyfriend down in Rockingham.
