I am a reformed candy addict. I eat very healthy now which is why I watch you guys eat all the stuff I used to eat. The long, thin candy taffy in the paper was one of my favorites as a kid and I LOVED those weird wax bottles with the liquid center. The wax isn’t tasty but I used to love to just chew it. Fun to watch your experiences with these retro sweets. Brings me back to a different time 😁 🍬 🍭

They’re called “Saf-T-pops” because they’re “safety pops”. Because of the loop it’s easier for small children to hold on to and the shape is designed so they don’t accidentally choke. They were supposed to be a safer alternatives to other lollipops on the market at the time like dum-dums.

Also we called them safe-Ty learning pops , given out by teachers and doctors cause they have number or letters on them for children to learn to count and learn the alphabet .

I grew up in the 60's and 70's ... my mother had a pitcher of Kool-Aid made and stored in the refrigerator, my favorite was cherry and my mom would squeeze a lemon in to the juice for a little tang to cut the sweet and sometimes she would cut the sugar by a bit as well. Great box ... full of lots of things I ate as a child, thanks for sharing this one with us.

I was curious why you would crack pumpkin seeds. I wouldn’t even know how. Last time I made pumpkin seeds I spilled the all over the floor. I had a hard time keeping my cat out of it while I cleaned up the buttery/salty mess.

@@kerahbearah well I'm guessing it's because seeds are a big thing in the US not so much in other countries and they've only ever tried sunflower seeds so it's easy to think you'd eat them the same way. It would've helped had the person who sent them put a sticky note or something else on how to eat them

Kool Aid was invented in Nebraska, it’s really all we are famous for, other than corn. In American we would never think of having it hot. It’s always interesting how different we all think of doing things, which is one of the reasons I love watching you all! ❤️

I love taffy like that! That is a treat for me. One of those things that you just love every time you have it, and makes you think of your childhood. Now the wax things....never been a fan! I feel like it’s strange to chew on the wax too! But I know lots of people that love them! For the kool-aid, we’ve always had it in our fridge to drink! Now that’s a true childhood memory 😊 Glad you guys enjoyed that box.

I always use two packets of the Kool aid and 1 cup of sugar and then the water, it just tastes too washed out and super sweet with just one packet. They also make it already mixed with sugar just add water, which tastes the same as I normally make it. And they also make in squeeze bottles ready to drink and lately they made it in those Crystal light things Kate enjoys.

The Kool-aid made me laugh and brought back so many childhood memories! We made a different flavor every night with dinner, in a Tupperware pitcher! If it was your turn to wash the dishes you got to chose the flavor! At the time we had no dishwasher and nobody had a clue that sugary drinks weren’t good for you! 😂

Wow! Those candies bring back a lot of great memories ! The lollipops were made for safety reasons so children wouldn't be able to pull the pop off the top like they would a stick lollipop. They were even given out at the bank ,they would ask you what flavor you wanted mine was either cherry or grape, and the Woolly Willey was such a simple toy but it kept us busy in the car on long rides. Also when we were good our parents would let us go to the candy store and go back to the candy counter and behind the big glass case we could pick out a dollars worth of penny candy so back in the 60's that was a lot of candy for each of us. And believe it or not that same candy company/ store still has the same candy case and still have some penny candies as well, when we go visit my mother ( she lives 3 hours away from us) we always go and get hand dipped ice cream and. We still go to the candy counter and still pick out a bag of candy, our son still enjoys it even though he is 25 years old and I am 56 years old and my hubby is 61 years old, but you know you never are too old to Love a tradition. We miss it and my Mother since covid !!sigh!! Hopefully next year we can get up to see her. Loved the video as usual!! Kate Loved the silver teeth!!LOL! Hugs from Lancaster,Pa.💓😘

My dad was born in 1956. Butterscotch is a pudding here, bazooka bubble gum used to have a cotton candy flavor that was so good. The wax on the Nik-l-nip is good for your teeth. It has xyletol in it, which helps prevent bacteria from sticking to your teeth. Those suckers are called saf-t-pops. The stick being curved and around a child's finger makes it less likely that they will choke, or swallow the stick. Candy lipsticks are one of my favorites I wish I knew where to find them. Canels gum is actually a Mexican candy, but I love them. The Houston Astros baseball team, used to be the tulsa oilers hockey team. When it comes to the koolaid, you add 1.5 cups, not one because its still too bitter, put it in warm water and let it cool, and when we became adults, here in oklahoma we started putting vodka in it, and calling it cowboy kool-aid.

  • @tracysmith4944
    @tracysmith4944 3 роки тому

As a kid my mom would pour mixed kool-aid into ice cube trays and then when it was solid enough...but not all the way frozen, she would put a tooth pick in each compartment and then we would have mini popsicles in the summer. You can also pour the mixed kool-aid into ice cube trays and after they are frozen add them to Sprite or 7up or mineral water for added flavoring. :)

My dad's best friend taught me write in script on an Etch a Sketch during a campout weekend (it was the only toy around), and now when I'm in a store's toy department and I see an Etch a Sketch I'll write messages on them. Supermarket sweep from 1993 is an early look in early 90s fashion and products in American supermarkets. Breaking Bad is a great series to watch too. Even though Avatar the last air bender is a kid’s show, it’s still a fun and great show to watch. It has action, drama and of course comedy.

Safe-tee pops. They used to give them to kids after your doctor appointments. "Safe" for kids because there is no stick.

Big league was definitely a favorite of mine as a child, the grape flavor was my favorite. As a treat growing up...my mom would make a batch of Kool Aid and poor it in a ice tray to make mini popsicles...I remember that I was the one kid who wasn't patient enough to wait for them to freeze properly...so she would make them without me knowing so they'll be ready to eat when the time came...lol!

Root beer barrels! My grandfather used to keep them to share with the grandchildren every time we visited my grandparents. That was back in the late 50s/early 60s, so yeah, retro FOR SURE! I still think of my grandfather every time I have those! By the way, next time you drink a root beer soda, think on what you're tasting.... most people don't realize that wintergreen is one of the chief ingredients of root beer. Once you know that, it's easy to pick out and recognize whenever you drink root beer. :-)

@This With Them When I was a kid in the 1960's and 1970s we would fill ice cube trays with kool aid, place plastic wrap over the top and then insert toothpicks and freeze them for home made Popsicles. FYI, I prefer the cherry flavor but I only use a half a cup of sugar per packet in a half gallon pitcher.

Oh my gosh, Al’s beard has really grown in! I meant to say that the last time! But another great box! Haven’t ever seen those little gums! They remind me of chicklets! And so many great ideas I’m stealing to send to my mates in Australia that we swap boxes with! The baseball cards and willy! And big league chew! I can’t remember if you’ve been sent Tang, but the Kool Aid reminded me of that! And yes we loved making kool aid popsicles as a kid! Hugs and love to you all and hoping you’re having a great week! ❤️❤️

I totally felt nostalgic and could almost remember opening my first pack of ball cards after probably 30 years...
Paraphrasing- "oh look at the back there's details".
Got me right in the feels.
Opening packs with my dad was a lot of fun, I didn't even know about the players for another 10 years, or even the sport for that matter.
I also remember hoards of cereal boxes in our freezer because packs came in them at one point for a few years, so yeah I ate a lot of cereal and absolutely loved it.

We only used to find the flat taffy at the street fair or 4-H fair! Big Lots is the only place I've seen that in years. When my husband was growing up he would sprinkle the koolaid powder on vanilla ice cream! 😋

The flat taffy is a carnival and fair staple here they do it like that so you don’t have to unwrap individual pieces while walking around plus it cuts down on litter!!! It’s like the corn dog of fair candy

My Great Grandmother lived in rural Pennsylvania. Her little town had a "penny-candy" section in the corner store. She'd give us each $1 and we'd come back with a brown sandwich bag FULL of these retro candies and many more. Good memories ☺️😊
