    This is the best version of all. Seen all the others, this actress is the right fit for the role, as is Edward Fox for the Prince.

    It's good they finally found an actress who can show just how unappealing and loathesome Mrs. Simpson was, unlike the versions where she is beautiful and glamorous. What they perhaps never can show is what he saw in her. Edward Fox is darling in this.

      Wallis knew she wasn't conventionaly attractive. She was quoted saying this and that was why she dressed as well as she could. Both stayed slim over the years and always looked good in clothes.

    This is so worth watching, just for the cat fights and bitch back biting. Also the servants being so snotty. It's delicious.

    Remember my mom watching this in the 70s when first shown and so wanted to see it myself . Was not allowed too then . Have since over the years watched the series cpl times . The most believable still of all subsequent fillings their story . The both looked the part the most closely . Think why this so version then still today resonates the deepest still most the public . Also very much her voice in this as a younger women echoes truly the real life Duchess’s voice in later years , various news reels , interviews .

    foxibot Regarding your comment "In my opinion she really thought she would be accepted as Queen, but was not smart enough to know or intelligent or educated, & did not have any class by birth or by demeanor." In this series, at least, she does seem to think David had more power than he really did. I read a biography about the couple that stated that since Wallis made clever comments at the social events, listeners thought she had a deeper understanding of current circumstances and events than she really did.

    This actress is the spitting image of Wallis! These two were perfect for each other, both AHs & two more useless wasted lives l can't think of. Both selfish spoiled brats! She was nothing more than a grubby little gold digger and him...an emotionally unstable and immature twit. What a horrible fate to have to spend the rest of your life with either one of these two. They deserved each other!

    In the woman he loved I didn't recognize Joely Richards straight away, but the nasal tone she spoke in drove me insane & that is how I figured out it was her. That was a more sympathetic version. They tried to make it seem as if she had morals & inner struggle & tried to leave Edward as to not interfere with him becoming King. It was just so contrived & laughable. That woman knew exactly what she was doing to him, got him to give her jewels, furs, expensive clothes, exotic trips & put money in her bank account while she was still married. In my opinion she really thought she would be accepted as Queen, but was not smart enough to know or intelligent or educated, & did not have any class by birth or by demeanor. She, I believe since Edward was extremely narcissistic & weak probably treated him differently, manipulating him sexually, acting as though she was not intimidated by him, & possible even probable she played on his insecurity from childhood where his parents who were not affectionate & very disciplined so he longed to be loved by them & wanted their approval, but rebelled against them by not getting it. I have met women like this that are master manipulators & can exploit men on their weakness, & look for ways to control him. In this case it backfired on her. I do believe that the reason "Bertie" later King George made such a good King was the love of his wife who was a good woman, & helped him immensely. She knew what the role of the royals had to be, but brought joy & affection to his life. I think Elizabeth greatly benefited from this loving home where her father showed he over his wife & adored his children. It prepared her for becoming Queen at such a young age. I admire her for working like a common person during WW2 & not just sitting it out. I believe she followed the example of her father & mother when they did not leave London & the residence was bombed. They knew their people were without homes due to bombing. They rationed their food & water just like everyone else. To me that is true class when your people are hurting & you give up the comforts they surely could of have but did not. I wish that sentiment in relating to the people here in the US would exist, not just in war, but when people are losing their homes or sick or having to be the sole care of their elderly parent or parents. Our leaders have lost contact with the suffering of their people & that is incredibly tragic. We are at war & they do not realize it, a war that is being lost & their are casualties.

      This man did that wanted, stop turning these adult and pampered men of the European aristocracy into the incalculable victims of "commoner, machiavellian, treacherous women," most queens were never angels, geniuses, and intellectuals as well. The so-called "blue blood" never made these people "perfect" or that they really deserved the nickname of ''the chosen by God''. These people who have occupied Europe's thrones from the Middle Ages until today aren't better than nobody only because follow etiquette rules. In the case of the British monarchy, the Windsor may be descendants of a simple archer, so they should not snub anyone. I'm not defending this couple, maybe they had been Nazis, but their opponents weren't saints or angels either.

    Edward was an awful man. The way he threw his previous lovers over and just refused to take their calls.......It was cowardly. And all for a woman who didn't really care for him anyway. It was just a bit of fun for her......until he abdicated. Then she realized the seriousness of it. She did try to get out of marrying him but knew she had wrecked his life. Their wedding was a dismal affair.

      I dont quite see how she wrecked his life. He watned to give up being king.. he was still well off and comfortable. If he was bored at times, that was a small price to pay for what he'd done

      @@glen7318 She was constantly unfaithful to hi and threw her affairs in his face. She humiliated him publicly at every opportunity. People laughed at him behind his back. She found him a clinging bore and let him know it. No matter how she treated him he followed her around like a lost puppy dog. They lived an empty life of traveling around and clubbing and parties, where she ignored him most of the time. The love was very much one sided.

      He gave up the crown of his own volition. He never looked back, and never had any regrets over the decision. Edward and Wallis were faithfully married for thirty five years. Devoted to one another the entire time. After his death, her health began to decline rapidly. That’s more than one can say for over 85% of all marriages. Quite admirable, wouldn’t you say?

    • @juanitarichards1074
      @juanitarichards1074 3 роки тому +1

      @@verborgenewahrheit1594 He never wanted the responsibility of being king in the first place - this is common knowledge, he wasn't into hard work and self sacrifice, so i was no sacrifice for him to give it up. And he did indeed have regrets when they wouldn't give Wallis the title HRH, nor give him any meaningful jib. And if you think Wallis was faithful to him then you must be deaf, dumb and blind. She hated his clinginess and she treated him like shit and she threw other men in his face. She never wanted to marry him either but felt forced into it after he gave up the throne.

      That Edward did not have it him him to fulfill his duty as King, is human. He did the right thing by relinquishing the crown and allowing his brother to lead England. And although he didn’t desire to be King, he was more than willing to be King with Wallis as his Queen. Is that such a terrible thing? And the regrets you refer to have nothing to do with abdication. If he had to do it all over again, he would have changed nothing, even with the advantage of hindsight. He merely loathed not being able to be more of service, diplomatically, to his country. Quite understandable that he was disappointed that his bride would not bear the title HRH, but not enough to cause him to regret his decision.
      Finally, Wallis was totally and completely faithful to her husband, The Duke of Windsor. You’re simply regurgitating the slanderous lies propagated by the state media, whose sole aim was to denigrate Wallis’ good name. There has never been a shred of evidence to support this erroneous claim. They led an exemplary life together.
