To address a few things. I own this belt and like it a lot. But I do think you hit it on the head in the beginning by saying that is more oriented towards military. As far as the canted sleeves, one of the reasons they are positioned where there are is to clear pouches on the cummerbund that guys need. I also believe it’s a great blend of rigid and flexible. Rigid where it needs to be like carrying the pistol. But the whole belt being able to flex with your body is something that guys who wear this equipment for hours on end want. You can absolutely use the buckle slots to mount gear, I’m doing it right now. It’s absolutely not meant to be a super rigid competition belt. It’s more meant to be comfortable while still carrying a reasonable load well.
I feel you but if this style is what you want... the Beez does it better.... the wilder is lighter.... and the HRT has more structure. I agree there are mission sets outside of our more civilian perspective. But even then.... I got some better options for you stay safe out there brother. This retired first sergeant had enough lol
@ThinLineDefenseCo hearing you're a retired 1SG makes so many things fall into place. Your personality always reminded me of a PSG that my buddy had, and a 1SG that we both knew in passing.
I hope that's a good thing haha it was a very rewarding time to be able to look at the red tape and go "no...we're not doing that" and really help people.
I'm active duty army, and I have a Usurper V1 that I've been using as my "work" setup for over a year, and a V2 I've used as a competition setup for a few months. I have some counter points because I think this review is misleading and Id love to know more about what kinds of tests and trials you conducted to come to your conclusions. 1. You keep using the term "load bearing." This belt is not described as loadbearing by Shaw anywhere on his website. gunfighter belts aren't LBE, none of them are designed inherently to put a ton of shit on them. This design of belt is for you to remove some items from your plate carrier to streamline your carrier, and that's for any of them, Ronin, AWS, BFG, etc. The suspenders are nice if you're someone that might be putting something like Belt Fed pouches on it to prevent slipping, or want whatever weight might be distributed to your shoulders. 1. Some people don't like canted mag pouches, but having a belt that has a dedicated option for those who enjoy canted mags (myself for instance) whether that be from a competetive standpoint or duty standpoint is awesome. The laser cut is strong and I've never had issues with it. 3. The inner belt is designed to be standalone. It's thick enough that you can route an ALS or similar holster attachment and routable mag pouches. This seems more geared towards LE/Mil. The fact that the belt comes with independently usable systems is awesome. You're not just left with an outer belt, and some long piece of velcro you route into your belt loops. I dont know what belts you usually wear but the cobra Buckle is no different in feel than a typical rigger's belt. I'm also not sure what size of belt you bought but for a properly fitted belt, there are 3-5 G-hook slots available. You have almost a dozen so I don't think you followed the instructions on how to pick what size belt to select on his website. 4. It's not a CCW inner belt. Almost every offering of inner belt otherwise, is also not a good CCW belt. 5. The interior sewn portions are blocked off so you dont route the pouch somewhere that could interfere with the connection to the velcro, and is instead routed directly to a stronger material. This complaint is similar to someone being upset that they routed their pouch around the entirety of a Ronin belt and it caused a point of failure or undue pressure. 6. Again, canted mag pouches, they are placed in a natural body position, out of the way of your front plate bag. Short of the very rare instance of reloading your handgun from the prone while laying on your support side, the canted design actually makes it easier to remove the mags in this position than a vertical design would. In your description of your distaste for their location, where you would be pulling the magazine from limits your range of movement or cause a snag point, where they are keeps them out of the way. If you look at your own setup, they are in a location where nothing sits above them or in the way of your ability to reliably remove the magazine. If you don't like the canted mag pouches, why did you buy the canted mag version? Even then, if you don't like the way the magazines face, as you said, just shift the belt over or collapse the rear adjustment face to your liking. I did this with my GBRS and Ronin belts because, as a lefty, the free running adjustment tab got in the way of molle space, so the buckle was canted off to my 10' o clock. Not every one needs the suspenders, which is why they're not sewn into the belt. Again, the belt also does not appear to be fitted properly to you. 7. You keep bringing up the knife. Not a belt feature but you bought a 400 dollar knife you don't use? 8. Let's talk rigidity. Rigity Rigity Rigity. I don't know what your background is or what you do now, but I'll say this, the hyper rigid belts are extremely uncomfortable if you have to do anything where you're moving and shooting to and from unconventional shooting positions, sitting in cramped areas. The belt moves with your hips and forms to you. I've worn this belt for literal days on end and at times have forgotten it's even there, and the tegris and laminent provides stability for the actual pouches while again, contouring to your body. Anyone that has worn a Ronin for 8+ hours never forgets the experience. 9. The inner belt is great for standalone. It's padded, comfortable, and morphs to your body, and again, can have a OWB holster attached to it if needed. It is not a CCW belt, and if memory serves, it's never been touted as one. 10. The rear molle for the connector panel, is a molle section. You can stuff to it if needed. I don't know what the argument you're trying to make with this. 11. The belt is once again, not sized properly. You bought an inner belt that was way, way too big, and it doesn't look like you properly sized the outer belt either with how much excess you have. There are instructions on his website on how one should select their size. I run a medium with a 33" waist wearing Crye/Patagonia and have nowhere near the amount of excess material you have
I do agree but i have two questions out of curiosity. I do have this belt but just havent set it up yet. Is routing pouches through tegris better than routing them through the laminate? Or is it similar. And what about hyper rigid belts makes them uncomfortable? Ive never owned one and im assuming you are referring to the axl and hrt tegris belts. Is is similar to why the aws inner belt gets uncomfortable after a while? I cuts into me and hurts after some use. Got the quore performance one now. I am excited to fully set this belt up and see if i agree or disagree with thin line. Im coming from the aws molle belt which for the record i do really like
I have my pouches routed through the laminate, ive never had an issue with rips, tears or excess wear. Belts like the AWS or Ronin are very rigid and dig into your hips after some time wearing them, as well as also dont mold to your body and don't move with you, the usurper does. The AWS is great, it's the gold standard, but the Usurper innovated on the typical design and made it fully modular. Again, ive worn it for days on end without any problems or discomfort
@@FlyingSquirrel8275 oh nice. Im excited to finally set it up and use it then. I will probably use the qore inner belt with it and use the cobra buckle on the outer belt
Seeing as you have experience with this belt, does attaching suspenders allow you to use this more like a padded belt and how much weight do you reckon it could comfortably take?
When I first read the title of this video I couldn’t possibly fathom the Shawn concepts belt not being great based around the hype and the coolness but everything you said about the belt is true. A little bittersweet, but as always, we appreciate the honesty.
It's important to reiterate that there may be purpose built missions for this belt that I just don't know of. From a civilian perspective though, It's confusing.
I think Pale Horse Concepts make use of a similar system to mount outer to inner belts. Would be interested to see if they did a better job making it work.

I agree with you on this belt. Coming from Mil/LE guy here this belt is more towards that for specific units or specific people in my opinion. I love Shaw products. I rock their placards, pouches, and plate carrier, but I always felt this belt was lacking in those topics you talked about and just didn't make sense to me that's why I never got it, and this video helped explained why. Now the belt I wear is similar to this one but executed way better in my opinion which is the Pale Horse concepts belt. They both use that G hook attachment for the outer belt which I believe Shaw got the idea of his belt from was from theirs. The Inner belt overlaps inside the pant lop making it a stable rigid platform and the outer belt uses the sizing adjustment better. The inner belt tab does also tuck itself inside the belt that way it doesn't get in the way of Velcro adhesion. They sell canted mags which is goes more upfront which makes more sense instead of having it in the side of the hip. If anyone is planning to get these type of belts Pale Horse concepts is the way to go. Other than that Shaw makes great products, but the belt isn't for everyone some people may love it, and some people won't. Great review no sugar coating anything and straight to the point.
Would you review one of the options from Xbelts? It’s more LE focused but I know they sell one of their belts in multicam so I assume there’s a Mil-use for it
How about the Arctic Technical gear belt. I gave it a try and it was a bit of a pain. I ended up buying a single piece of Tegris that I drilled holes in to replace the two laser cut pieces in their kit. And I had to order another 10 section Multicam outer sleeve and get Rid of the two small two section pieces they provide. I’m thinking about seeing if there’s Tegris plastic that comes in a thicker dimension to stiffen the belt up even more.
I havn't. Dynamic Principles is good but at the current time I'd still say Mech. Hopefully dynamic principles cooks up something later to use those cantable pouches though!
This suspender looks like a solution to the problem pf the flexibility of the belt by holding it up, which I feel is a solution to a problem that did not need to exist.
