Boss RC 50 Demo Looper How to loop using the Boss RC 50. Using different Phrases (Tracks) and tempo adjustment. Using Fender Stratocaster (Fat Strat) Line 6 Pod X3 Live.
Thank you very much for your straightforward demo! I'm thinking of buying the RC-50 as a songwriters tool. (Owned an RC-20 back in the day for the same purpose.) I use a Line 6 POD HD 500 that I intend to use with the RC-50. This helped me decide on whether or not to consider the pyrchase and if I should choose this one over the RC-300. :)
Oh, by the way: it is possible to bounce down, say, several overdubs on phrase 1, (if you want multiple rythm guitar overdubbs etc), on that one phrase, then move on to the other phrases, right?
Short answer is, you can turn the volume off on drums using the "Guide level knob"... that turns only the drum volume off...Im not sure if there is another way, im sure there is and if I find it I will post answer...Thanks for the great question...Ed
Thanks for the demo - much appreciated - tell me can each 'phrase' be of different lengths and still sync ? Ie phrase 1 - 4bars- phrase2 8 bars - phrase 3 16 bars for example ? There is a used one on eBay and prefer the more 'solid' build of the boss over the ditto x4 - thanks in advance .. Best Al
Hello. I am interested in your loop station. I had one of those few years ago and i sold it because i thought there is a problem with it but now I am thinking about repurchase it. Could you answer my question please? I will describe you the way how I record everything: - Pressing Phrase 1 and hit record button( recording some bass line with drums)and pressing the same record button to stop recording so I have loop on Phrase 1. -Then I press Phrase 2 and hit the record button again (recording some guitar arpeggios) and pressing the same record button to stop my second phrase. So now is the problem when the two loops are playing (Phrase 1 and Phrase 2) simultaneously the loop on the Pharse 2 has a half a second gap (brake) exactly in the moment I previously pressed record button when I recorded it. I Is the one does the same? I would like to know if I had malfunctioned one or the all RC 50 do the same? Thanks a lot
Hello! Am I the only one having the problem where my 3rd phrase just won't work. For some reason, anytime I hit it it is used as a record/stop button. I've been struggling with this ever since I got the pedal.
I started having a problem with the looping. Here's how I record everything: - I press PHRASE 1 to record some drumming. I press again to stop recording. - I go to PHRASE 2 and record a piano, for example. The problem appears as a half second gap (or even shorter) of silence exactly after I pressed the record button. I'd like to know if this is some kind of malfunctioning. Is there a way to fix it?
Hi, I'm pretty sure I know what your problem is. I think there was a problem with some little pauses or silence moments in this looper, I had too and I've fixed it by downloading a BIN file called rc50.bin, check it or Google and you may find some people who putted the link on Internet, in case you haven't it, reply me so I could send it to you. This is like of an update thing, and it fixed everything for me. I know it was really annoying before that...
Hi, have you experienced a 'peaking' problem when adding analog pedals before the looper? I've limited the levels of my pedals to just bout 9 o'clock but it still peaks.
If you read the manual it says to set all your pedal levels with the levels at 12 and to get your amp to the volume you like and back off the bosses volume until it barely engages the peak indicator, just below threshold..
And In such instances, you can have all of the phrases start playback (All Start) or stop (All Stop) at the same time by simultaneously pressing the PHRASE 2 and PHRASE 1 pedals.
k i've been looking everywhere for an answer to my question and have yet to have it answered. is it possible to use this loop machine WITHOUT having a drumb track in the background? or is the only way to do it to just have it as a metronome kind of thing
Alright this might not be a clear question, but I'm gonna try my best. So if you hooked that thing up a microphone and let's say played a tambourine into it would it loop the tambourine?
Bullfrog Stupiddoor It's going to loop any sound source you plug in to it/record with a michrophone into it for the duration of the first phrase recorded on that bank. So in other words: if you need 4 bars of tambourine, you record four bars (of anything really.. You can simply count or clap your hands if you want to add that before the tambourine for some reason). Now, the phrase you're working with is 4 bars long and you can add any other instrument/sound source on top of that if you choose to. Did I answer your question?
hi! i just got a used rc-50 and there are drums (the "tempo" option) on every patch. How do I stop it? and how do I clear a patch? (delete what's on it) Thanks a lot in advance! :)
Watch my videos for some help, there are stop and start buttons on top clearing a patch by holding down the stop button for a few seconds it will erase the loop you just wrote. I think I have 2 videos that talk about it..I actually bought the next highest version of this pedal the RC 300, I don't have this one anymore. God bless thanks for watching..Ed
Edward Owen Thanks so much dear Edward! I managed to solve this on the rc-50 but, funny thing, two days later I got the rc-300 from a friend (totally good luch!yay :) ) so now I'm learning it....So can I ask you - how to set that phrase 2 will start recording immediately and stop playing phrase 1? I want to record on the 1 and play the loop a number of times and then record on phrase 2 but that phrase 1 will stop playing. (because the harmonies are different). Thanks a lot!! :)
i got an answer i got the same pedal so....i record something in phrase 1 its ok when i going to record in phrase 2 while phrase one its on with play mode on both switches in phrase 2 records also whats in the phrase one!!! how can i record individual track.....but i wanna hear whats in phrase 1 its very crusade what i ask ahehehe but maybe you can solve me that issue
General fact: There is a way to send midi info to a DMX controller which then can control lighting via DMX switch pack. See UA-cam tutorials for more info. I am not familiar with this unit but I see it has midi out so maybe there is a way to do it.
Completely offtopic....your voice reminds me totally Flea (from Red hot Chilli Peppers)!! :D Very very similar...must be the accent as well. Thanks for the video...quite worth it to get the basics! ;)
Do you still use this device? Update to show your evolution! Purchased mine when new (8 years ago). Just setting it up for the first! Thanks for the reboot!
Nice demo, but thought I should mention that the way you've used it in this video may have been more effective by simply over dubbing. You lose the ability to turn them on and off individually, but generally the idea of the phrase channels is to have different song sections. For example how could have had a verse on phrase 1, with all three of those parts overdubbed just on phrase 1, then for phrase 2 you could do a different progession with as many overdubs as you want, then a third, say bridge, to phrase 3. Not really a wrong or right thing, benefit of doing same song section on different phrases is you can simply turn them off/on rather than having to undo/re-loop etc.
same here... I bought it in 2005..(!) and was never really able to use it properly. Quatization doesn't really work.. to my knowledge.. I came in here, just to acess if it is just me.....or .. if in deed.. it is useless., and i have been doing that for the past 5 years... Still haven't been able to figure out if i should get more practice in and better skills... or.. just get another pedal/solution.. I record a riff.. and after a few loops the tempo and the phrase are completely off with eachother. Any recommendations ?
Wish everyone got down to business like you. Great vid, thank you.
Thank you very much ! I think I will buy one. This is so what I am searching since years 🙏
Thanks buddy, plus the info you gave, you really have a very good sense of humour
you have been most helpful ........... thank you so much
Great video, will for sure be checking out other vids from your channel!

What if you want to toggle between a verse and a middle section an back again?
hey i was wondering, what is the actual tempo pedal there for if you change it with your hand?

How do you hook it up to your amp and guitar

Yes you can use it with no drum track playing......
hi, thanks for the video.. i have a quesion... is that possible to plug in and use guitar and mic in the same time?
+Mustafa ALP yes
Hi there. Does anyone of you have a circuit Diagramm of the RC 50?
Nice

This guy is funny!
I need to find a way to attach the click track to a bright light onstage any idea how to do that?

Have you figured this out any better over the last 8 years? I've got loop fever again...
Hi! Can you set the tempo without tapping it?
Yes, hit tap temp button... use knob to the right that says memory value.. it can dial in tap tempo...Hope that helps Thanks Ed :)
Do you still use this device? Update to show your evolution! Purchased mine when new (8 years ago). Just setting it up for the first! Thanks for the reboot!
Between Phrase 2 and phrase 3 there is a sign saying "all start all stop" bigfoot both of em...
have you ever heard of wickham. because he uses that looper on his song everywhere. look it up

So how to record separate section?
does it quantize the loops ?
no. that would be a midi function
Can I use a keyboard with this??
Yes
Just got one of these unopened in original packaging and need to find a tutorial where the person actually knows how to use it
Julianna Barwick, I suggest
A DEMO.......🙈
"I haven't figured it out yet..." but I think I'll do a tutorial. So very UA-cam.
Most expensive and utterly useless piece of hardware I ever bought! Can't work with it, without it delaying.
same here...
