The Rock's influence and power is being felt immediately and obviously. Make no mistake, the entire wrestling world is now controlled by the Anoa'i Family.
Crazy to think if CM Punk would’ve won the Rumble, it would’ve been the perfect story. He got injured, the Rock steps in and gets a massive pop. Now he’s the biggest heel in the business.
Wow, that actually makes sense. But there would be some conspiracy theorists saying Punk isn’t really hurt and the Rock strong-armed himself into that spot.
That's actually a great point. If Punk had won, it would've alleviated the stain of anyone looking like a chump because no onscreen commitment would've been made to Cody and so the Reigns match wouldn't have been set in stone. Yet another hindsight 20/20 moment in the world of wrestling
If the intent was to turn Cody into a martyr, why did they book it in a way that made it look like Cody is the one who didn’t want the match at WrestleMania? I don’t believe that was their intent. If they wanted him to be a martyr, the storyline would’ve been that he got screwed out of the match some how. I think they thought that by having Cody say he didn’t want the match, the fans would be okay with it because it was what Cody wanted.
_"And what's that? Out of nowhere, someone bigger than you comes in and takes it all away."_ Hilarious that Punk had a Moxtradamus moment after receiving _multiple_ Moxtradamus moments.

I *KNEW* Cody wouldn't get a proper ending to this. Absolutely knew it. 39 was the time, they fucked it up, I knew something was going to happen, I just knew it. Nothing good ever happens in this company, and it's going to get even worse once Triple H is gone and Rock and his head writer who probably thinks exactly like Vince takes over.
@KickStayou couldn't be more right. Cody is grossly overrated. His story is cliche and lame and superficial. Cody's fake emotion every week is on sociopathic levels of disingenuous.
But what would Cody have been doing in the original scenario? Seth wrestles Punk, Roman wrestles Rock, and Cody... What does Cody do? None of this makes sense. There must be something else going on here. Maybe Rock is going to align with Roman and turn heel. It's just so bizarre. None of this adds up at all. There has to be more happening
The only thing that makes sense is Cody wins title at EC (takes the championship from Roman with rocks help) and Rock takes the title of “head of the table” from Roman at Mania. No it’s not ideal, yes Cody should win at mania but that’s obviously not happening
So why do people say Cody should just win like that? In other words jus give him the title of its for entitlement. I like Cody but stories aren’t determined by fans, otherwise every face should win for the sake of it..

There has always been this inside thing going on throughout wrestling. It created the Attitude era with the Montreal Screwjob, maybe there is SOMEONE in the company that knows how to capitalize on this. It seems like it is perfect for blending reality in with it and using all this backstage drama on television. I highly doubt they will but they should.
No idea what everyone's in an uproar about. The moment Rock appeared on Jan. 1 Raw and said he wanted a seat at the table, it was obvious that he was going to be Roman's opponent at Wrestlemania. There's no question the match had been made. Heck, they wanted the Rock v. Roman last year for Wrestlemania , but he was unavailable. This thing is a year in the making. Why did Cody win the Rumble? Probably just to cement his status moving forward post-wrestlemania. But it wasn't to set up a match with Roman at Wrestlemania.
This feels exactly like Arnold Schwarzenegger defeating Mike Mentzer in 1980s Mr. Olympia and getting booed by the audience. Was a big Rock fan but not anymore. No more a People’s Champ, Mr. Rocky Maivia. #wewantcody
Maybe he was just trying not to say too much at the time, but back on ESPN First Take on Jan. 23, from listening to Rock, it sounded like the build-up for him vs Reigns would need to be more than just a couple months (when viewing his appearance, to me it felt like Rock vs Reigns would be a WrestleMania 41 thing). On top of that, only two to three months seems like a very short amount of time for Rock to get into ring shape for a main event match, especially at his age. Taker has made no secret of how hard he had to train to be ready for his yearly Mania matches towards the end of his career.
Men's chamber could easily be for #1 contender for Gunther's IC title. Bron Breakker vs Jey Uso vs. Nakamura vs Bronson Reed vs. Andrade vs Ivar would work for me. Plenty of other guys you could add instead.
Perhaps WWE may actually be one step ahead of the fans. Remember Backlash @ Puerto Rico? Arguably felt like the biggest PLE of the year. Cody vs. Roman at Elimination Chamber in Australia. Elimination Chamber will be similar to Backlash....but bigger because of the high possibility of Cody taking the title - he said it himself '....not at Wrestlemania'. Roman will then be fuming b/c the Rock stepped in and got involved. Roman wants to get rid of Rock. Rock wants to finish the actual story of ending the tribal reign of Roman = Wrestlemania 40.
Here’s the play: Seth comes out for his match and Cody no shows. Seth still wants a match and issues open challenge. Damian priest takes it. Then Rock wrestles Roman non-title for Tribal Chief. Rock wins, then Cody comes out with the MITB briefcase and also beats Roman for the belt. We later learn Damien traded his MITB for Cody’s title shot. Everyone wins. Well, except for Roman. Yes, I’m a genius and should write for WWE
The fact that knew fully that it would elicit such a reaction and still went ahead with it anyway tells you how they feel about the audience in general. They don't want to reward the dedicated fan who's stuck with Cody's journey for 2 full years now (nearly impossible to hold babyface momentum that long in modern wrestling). They see things purely as a numbers game. Now from a business aspect that's fine. But if your hardcore base diminishes over time because they recognize you don't respect them (as it eventually did under Vince) then you only have yourselves at the top to blame.
hunter? he's not in the main event and if you think he's had full control over this decision then you're oblivious to reality. Besides, Vince booked HHH in that spot not HHH. And he was the top heel at the time and one of the biggest draws. Simple.

3 things why this match happend 1 - They are trying so hard to moe the attention from the Vince scandal 2- Rock vs Roman was teased years ago and whit movie productions resuming full force this year this was one if not the last chance of Rock doing the match 3 - Once Glass Phil body broke...again! Night 1 needed a main event and Seth Rollins and the World Title needed a credible challenger...other than Cody there´s nobody else to challenge for that title
the primary argument in defense of the decision you'll see is "well, the Rock is a bigger star than Cody" or something or along those lines which is a completely BS argument btw, how is WWE suppose to build fresh stars for the future if old stars keep stepping in and taking the spotlight? this isn't the first time, but this is definitely the most egregious example I can think of think about it this way, imagine if this was WWF WrestleMania XV, the Rock vs Austin in their first Wrestlemania title match, main event, during the build up Hulk Hogan quits WCW, comes back to WWE, and politics his way into the match to take Rock's place? I mean, why not? Hulk Hogan "iS a bIgGeR sTaR" 🙄
Cody is an old star that took the spotlight though. And he's been grossly overrated since he came back to WWE. He was lame AF in AEW. Superficial and cliche. F his story, and his dad, and his theme song, and especially his wife.
Because many of the wrestling fans who are currently wrestling fans have done everything in their power to hold younger stars back to hype up their old legends. They'll tell you that's not true, but they're the first ones to tell you there's no new stars when companies TRY to create new stars, and they only like the wrestling they liked as a kid. "Cody isn't as big as Rock." Ignoring that if Cody could finish his story and if talent was booked stronger and consistently, people COULD reach the Austin, Rock, Cena level. But they don't like to admit that.

Dave, in your own newsletter last year you said the plan is for roman to pass Bob Backlund and be the guy who is second to only bruno. Why is everyone shocked Cody isnt facing Roman at mania? Do they really wanna watch Cody count the lights again...
The Rock is trying to do something for the boys and the value of the company. Cody would be happy to take a good payday stay on salary whatever. Better than the whole thing crashing down. It is a business. Distraction time.
He could have done that at any time. But no, he chose now at Wrestlemania 40 and inserted himself into a year-plus long storyline. No, he's doing this for him, to get the spotlight again and scratch that itch.
So what is the endgame of Seth V Cody? If Cody wins are they gunna have him lose the title before the Roman match? Would they unify a THIRD title into Romans? Neither option looks good tbh
@@DJSpike-ft9yw Seems like the best case scenario for Cody would be beating Seth and Priest cashing in after a Judgment Day beatdown. It still sucks but at least Cody doesn't look like a total schmuck.
@@meekrob He already does. Best thing for them to have done is after Cody won the Rumble, have the Rock challenge Seth for the WHC and win, then do Cody vs Roman at Wrestlemania 40 and have Cody go over. Now Rock has a legit reason to believe he’s head of the table since he has a belt and Roman doesn’t. Then do Rock vs Roman at Summerslam for the WHC and “Head of the Table.” Let Roman carry around the WHC for awhile if they want it’s prestige to be boosted. Done. Or we can do Seth Vs Cody (interference DQ by Roman for Heat) and Rock Vs Roman on Night 1 of WM, then do Cody Vs Roman on Night 2 with Cody going over. Then you can do Seth Vs Roman after Mania since Seth and Roman have history and Seth would be pissed at Roman for ruining his match.
No one wants to see Cody vs. Seth again. The fans on Raw last week made that VERY clear. And there’s nothing to gain by it no matter who wins in the end. Alvarez is right, Cody is already the biggest babyface in WWE. They don’t need to do all This BS TO “try and make him more over.” That is stupid.
Seems like Triple H would have known, and seems a subtle but brutal way of holding a grudge against Cody. Always wondered how they would humble him for AEW eventually… This was cold.
People are mad because Rock gets on the board of TKO, which was publicized on their own shows, and suddenly he’s in the main event. I get it why some people are mad. Personally I want to see Rock/Roman because we may never get a chance to see it. There’s still time to finish Cody’s story.
This is as bad of a booking decision as peak Vince. Like, you have 2 Champion belts, 10 people that could reasonably win the Rumble, yet you decide to completely deflate the value of a Rumble win and risk The Rock geting booed over robbing the fans of a great storyline? Yes The Rock will still sell tickets for WM, but why ruin everything around it?
This was a stupid move on WWE's part. Yes having the rock on the show is a huge money match. There's no question about that. The problem is that it's a one-time thing. They had the opportunity to put Cody in a position where he could draw them money for years to come. They might have just blown that opportunity
If the wrestling gods serve me right (and they usually do) The men's Elimination Chamber match will revolve around Gunther's Intercontinental Championship.
We booed at home. We thought Hogan was going to win the tag titles and we're all big Bret Hart fans as well. But you are right, the crowd seemed to love it. They also tore the roof off for the Rock and Roman segment
Here’s a thought. Creative isn’t dumb enough not to have the foresight that this would be the reaction. This is what they wanted.. and guess what? There will be more twists and turns to the story. They wanted to generate buzz. Creative is heel. They know what they’re doing.

I don't need to see 51 year old Rock against Roman with no build. The only reason I'd tune in and pay is if I'm interested in the Women's division at this point.

Crazy to think if CM Punk would’ve won the Rumble, it would’ve been the perfect story. He got injured, the Rock steps in and gets a massive pop. Now he’s the biggest heel in the business.
Facts
Wow, that actually makes sense. But there would be some conspiracy theorists saying Punk isn’t really hurt and the Rock strong-armed himself into that spot.
That's actually a great point. If Punk had won, it would've alleviated the stain of anyone looking like a chump because no onscreen commitment would've been made to Cody and so the Reigns match wouldn't have been set in stone. Yet another hindsight 20/20 moment in the world of wrestling
I had a friend who used to take a drink everytime Meltzer said "you know" but he died of alcohol poisoning...
I had a friend do the same with heroin
They couldn't of told many people, because Cody won, he climbed the turnbuckle, pointed AT ROMAN and said "I pick you"
If the intent was to turn Cody into a martyr, why did they book it in a way that made it look like Cody is the one who didn’t want the match at WrestleMania? I don’t believe that was their intent. If they wanted him to be a martyr, the storyline would’ve been that he got screwed out of the match some how. I think they thought that by having Cody say he didn’t want the match, the fans would be okay with it because it was what Cody wanted.
_"And what's that? Out of nowhere, someone bigger than you comes in and takes it all away."_ Hilarious that Punk had a Moxtradamus moment after receiving _multiple_ Moxtradamus moments.
I know he had that slight pause and followed it up with "and I mean me" but I think he really meant Dwayne.
This whole thing is a disaster. It’s very Vince McMahon influenced. Even though he’s gone, things are going according to how he would do it and that’s scary

There must be something else going on here. Maybe Rock is going to align with Roman and turn heel. It's just so bizarre. None of this adds up at all. There has to be more happening
At this point, Punk should’ve won the rumble. Injured as he might be, that would only screw up Seth’s title picture, not Roman’s.
The only thing that makes sense is Cody wins title at EC (takes the championship from Roman with rocks help) and Rock takes the title of “head of the table” from Roman at Mania.

That was so lame man
saying its only people online after the segment replay got boo'd at a live event and graphic got boo'd at the NXT PLE
Hey how about that great, long term booking?
We Want Cody!

#we want Cody!!!!!
Men's chamber could easily be for #1 contender for Gunther's IC title. Bron Breakker vs Jey Uso vs. Nakamura vs Bronson Reed vs. Andrade vs Ivar would work for me. Plenty of other guys you could add instead.
Mens chamber match will likely be to face Gunther, really the only option
Haha this whole video was both of them saying “idk what’s gonna happen…..I…D…K….” 😂
I hope you're right but I doubt it.
Now this is great booking. Paul Heyman should call you, or just rip you off if he reads the commetns.

If the decision was made January 3rd they could of at least had Rock win the Royal Rumble. Then him getting a title match is at least justified.
Just Hunter being Hunter, he inserted himself in that WM Main Event for YEARS.

Cody got booked right into the “Zack Ryder in a wheelchair” angle.
I have a 12 yr old who is all about wrestling and wwe. When I told him about Wrestlemania he looked at me, said he didn't care if he gets grounded, and yelled "fuck wwe, and fuck the rock". He has since thrown out all of his wrestling shirts and is selling all of his wrestling toys. I think wwe lost at least one fan.
Shirts are made for both NFL teams in the Super Bowl. I’m sure WWE made multiple shirts as well. In case of injuries etc
It’s yet another reason why Cody should have won last year. You get the story and can do Rock v Roman this year with no issues.
This is the problem with wrestling “fans” they want to see something happen but then will complain it was predictable. Just watch the movie and enjoy the ride if you don’t like it don’t watch
I don't understand why they don't just have Roman work both nights. Do the rock one night and Cody the other. Have him beat the Rock on night one and then have Cody go over on night two
This kinda works but it does diminish the WHC title of Seth even further. You're just making it become more of a secondary title.
@@rapturedbretheren7Have Cody face Seth for the WHT. Roman face Rock for WWE Title. Then Roman and Cody Title for Title. Cody wins. 3 - Once Glass Phil body broke...again! Night 1 needed a main event and Seth Rollins and the World Title needed a credible challenger...other than Cody there´s nobody else to challenge for that title

the primary argument in defense of the decision you'll see is "well, the Rock is a bigger star than Cody" or something or along those lines
which is a completely BS argument btw, how is WWE suppose to build fresh stars for the future if old stars keep stepping in and taking the spotlight? this isn't the first time, but this is definitely the most egregious example I can think of
think about it this way, imagine if this was WWF WrestleMania XV, the Rock vs Austin in their first Wrestlemania title match, main event, during the build up Hulk Hogan quits WCW, comes back to WWE, and politics his way into the match to take Rock's place?

Can’t they do Rock/Roman night 1 for the head of the table and Cody/Roman night 2 for the title?
