    I came on UA-cam looking for information on cleaning my CPAP machine and equipment. I've developed a persistent dry cough which got worse and after four months found it to be my therapy. I was never told about the filter. Omg when I opened the side panel and saw the state of the filter I never knew existed 😳😭 I've cleaned it and ordered new filters. I then cleaned the tubing (all tubing) with the vinegar solution. I was also told by sleep clinic to use cool boiled water but in fact are meant to use distilled. No wonder my lungs got infected with the grubby filter I never knew about for two years!! I now have new parts and have disinfected everything. I don't know whether it will prevent further lung problems as I will not use my machine until I receive the new filters and my distilled water delivered.
    Thanks for your no nonsense straight to it info without all the faff
    From an informed user from the UK

    I was getting a whistling sound on startup. On examination and experimentation discovered it was a leaky seal between the top and bottom of the water container. After refilling the reservoir and closing it, by tilting it to wet the sealing gasket was enough to eliminate the whistling.

    Mike, you say that the electrical tab can get wet. Does that mean that it is ok to submerge it in the soapy water or water/vinegar solution?

    Mike: I have this unit. I changed out the filter, hose, reservoir, mask and mask holder all at once. I got a lung infection. I can not find information where or how to clean the pump portion of the machine. I know I can't use water or other liquid and it seems like the manufacture isn't interested in helping me. Have you ever used o3 sanitizing gas on a Resmed 10? I would have to make a nozzle for the air intake or enclose the unit in a bag.

    Appreciate the video. You mention that after a fair amount of use that dust etc can build up within the machine and cause whinging/whistling. I’m currently having this problem with my machine, the whistling/whining is very faint, but once I hear it of a night I can’t hear anything else. I’ve made sure it’s not the hose, mask or humidifier chamber (still whistles with side cover instead of chamber installed)
    Any suggestions would be great?

      Reach out to your DME company too see if your pap is still under warranty. Some of the S10s have a whiny noise that becomes prevalent after the pressure increases. It's not the norm.. If this is the case Resmed will replace your pap at no charge as long as it is under the manufacturing warranty.

      @102010j2J Every time mine begins to whistle, I simply pull out the humidifier, and close it in again, but quickly and firmly. Stops the whistling. I think it could indicate a slight problem with the seals, which is rectified by the action stated above.

    When I picked up my machine, the lady told me to just use Johnson’s Baby Shampoo DAILY for cleaning the hose, mask and humidifier. Well I haven’t always been daily and haven’t always emptied the humidifier. But I’m gonna give that vinegar a go and see if it will get rid of what would seem to be a mold smell that’s killing me every night IN SPITE of cleaning. Smells like J&J bb shampoo and whatever…MOLD😝!!

    Hi Mike. I recently bought a res-med heated tube but I am a bit concerned about cleaning it. I fear regular-type cleaning will damage the connector pins on the end that plugs into my CPAP. How can I do this without damaging the connector pins?

      This is a great question. We have used mild liquid soap, rising thoroughly and hanging to dry with the heated tubes and never had an issue. Yes, the heated tubes do have that electrical piece but we have never had a problem reported to us. We hope that helps.

      I do nor have the time in the morning before work to follow the daily cleaning process. Attempting to do so at the beginning of my therapy made me feel extremely stressed, which felt dangerous to my health. Waiting until getting home from work didn't leave enough time for all the components to dry before using that night. I feel like the SoClean saved my sanity & maybe even my life! And now it voids the warranty. Signed,

    Why does mine make gurgling noises sometimes? It sounds like it's in the hose and I do use a high number on humidity ( which sometimes still doesn't help) and I'm a terrible mouth-breather. I use a chin strap cinched up as tight as I dare already. I'm a side sleeper if that makes a difference. I'm new to this would also like to know what masks other side sleepers use.

    • @jo-anne7504
      @jo-anne7504 Місяць тому +1

      That gurgling sound is a sign of "rainout." It's great that you have increased the humidity! In the morning or after using your CPAP, shake out the hose and hang it to dry. Before you go to bed, make sure there's no water in the hose. First attach the hose to the machine. Put your mask on with the attachment for the climate line. LAST, attach the climate line to the small attachment on your mask. Works like a charm! Sleep well 😊

    💥🙋‍♂️‼️ I have noticed on my water tank, it accumulates a discolored pinkish mist in the corner of the plastic. I wash it ,and it comes off but not %100. Is this something I need to be concerned about if I'm actually breathing this in? I do order new tanks the moment I noticed it. But it does happens from time to time. Can anyone tell me what that can be?
    Thank u!

      It so is mold. I only see pink mold in my bathroom sink around the drain. Act on getting rid of that immediately. Some people suggest soap and water and some use a white vinegar/water solution. I have two reservoir containers and swap them out every day but thanks to these videos I inspected both and one had a black something on the soft gasket inside which last night was not possible to remove. I will request a replacement later today. Good luck.

      Mold. I was lax when first using mine and discovered some mold in my tank. Since then I’ve made sure to clean the tank regularly, and use distilled water, or RO water when distilled not available. I try to keep everything clean, replace filter when getting dusty, wash hoses and nasal pillows regularly and replace them and head strap every couple years. I’ve been using it for about 8 years and no significant issues. I mostly use vinegar/water to clean tank and hoses, and found weekly cleaning works for me.

    How long does a resmed machine last before it wears out?

    • @LiveWellCPAP
      @LiveWellCPAP  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for asking. It definitely can vary depending on how well it is taken care of. Make sure to change your filters close to the recommended every two weeks. Even if you are paying out of pocket for those, they should only run a few dollars a piece. Keeping these clean will help filter out dust that can affect the life of your machine. I would say you should be able to get anywhere from 5-8 years on the Resmed machine at least.

      Do you mean the actual machine?… you don’t. The only thing on the actual machine itself you clean is changing the filter now & then (1st part in the video) & maybe wiping the exterior of the machine down with a dry or damp cloth now & then (like you would with stuff in the home when it gets dusty), you don’t clean the actual machine itself. You only clean the “attachments”….
      Rule of thumb I use is basically if it can disconnect (except for the power cord & SD card of course), it gets cleaned. If it doesn’t disconnect from the machine, it’s not supposed to get cleaned.
      My understanding is, the motors ect inside are in completely sealed units which makes them quieter & prevents easy damage from bumping with water in the humidifier ect so basically, there’s nothing inside the machine to clean, it’s all sealed off. On mg man’s AirSense 10 (same machine in the video by the looks of it), when I take the humidifier out & look inside there, it’s just a sealed off cavity. I cover that cavity with a clean hand towel when I take the humidifier out for cleaning just to prevent dust or flying cat fur entering but even that’s probably overkill.
      The machine is basically all sealed off. There’s nothing passing inside to clean. It’s just a sealed off motor, computer, SD card reader & power thing in there. Any air outside just passed through the filter & straight into the tube (I think that’s why filters are always located right next to the tube plug-in). Air breathed out comes out the air holes in the masks & in the tube a bit… When he mentions insufficient filters causing dust build up & a whining noise over time, I think he’s maybe talking about that filter compartment itself? It’d make sense if that compartment & filter is all clogged up, it’d make a whining noise as it’s pulling the air through cause the machines aren’t designed for us to access the inside cause there’s supposed to be no need?
      That’s probably a super long way of explaining but I wondered the same thing myself before buying the 1st machine & that’s what a bunch of research told me so wanted to save you the time & concern 😅💜
