You make it look so easy, your hands are so steady. I have 3 golden doodles so been looking for help on .learning how to groom them myself. Just purchased some nice Andis Clippers with a set 10, 7C, 5C blades. I'm building the courage and confidence from watching your videos. My main concern is scissoring around the face, and cleanig the paws.

Your video guide is AMAZING !!! your gorgeous puppy is so, so patient and comfortable with you grooming him, he is so stunning, but a bit big for me these days, I am past the age of having a large dog again…..as gorgeous as they are.
I am going to get a small doodle, but soaking up as much information as I can before I get him, so I can start making him comfortable from the start. I have learnt SO MUCH from watching your videos, I already have grooming shears that were very expensive but they only have plastic combs. 😔 the pet shop I bought it from was trying to charge almost $400, years ago for these shears, I noticed a sign they price matched, so quickly googled them while in the store and bought them for just under half the rip off price they were trying to charge!!!. I am going to check and see if I can buy metal combs to fit it, plus get all the other grooming essentials I need.

Oster are plastic combs, but last forever
@@cooleen2 that is the brand shears I have. I thought being plastic it would be too difficult to work well. So they work ok with the grooming, and no need to try and get metal ones.? I have never used them so I just assumed they wouldn’t be much good. Thanks if you know ❤️

@@cooleen2 thanks so much !!! I appreciate your help. I am so hopeless when it comes to grooming knowledge that’s why I am learning as much as possible before I buy my next puppy. Our old KC Cavvy had deformed hip joints a freak thing that’s not associated with the breed but he suffered his whole life with hip pain, was on anti inflammatory, pain killers his whole life. Pet groomer was torture for him, even though we explained his condition the second visit had to drag him in, the third, he was not having a bar of it, so I “roughly” as in look groomed him, being as gentle as I could, but certainly never knew the correct way, he hated being brushed, anything from his middle backwards, it was so difficult, also he was double the size all over that he should have been. I was surprised he lived untill over 12 yrs, we always thought we would be lucky if he lived for eight years. I just wish I knew back then what I know now ! 🥺🥺🥺

Hi Amy, can you give any tips in a video on how to calm a dog. My dog hates the clippers (Andis AG2). He fights me. I have tried the arm with restraining him and he can still move and try to bite. I also used a belly strap, but finally abandoned all of it and just let him stand on the mat, like Gus. That seemed to work better, but he can still be a pill. He loves the head and face work, and sometimes falls asleep. Any suggestions? TIA

What is your gorgeous boy? I figured him a st poo, but his coat seems straighter than I'd expect on his tail? There are so many 'poos' these days, that it has become difficult to recognise what is going on under all that glorious coat! He is very handsome.

Are jason thinning shears okay to use. I know. I asked a lot of questions and I apologiyes.
I have never heard of them so I would say no.
Does it make a difference if I can get a comb through but the coat has some resistance? I have a mini poodle. No tangles or matting I can see or feel, but when I comb her it goes through with some effort to get the comb through.
Are you running the clippers over the coat (for the body) or pressing the comb attachment to the skin? I feel like I'm going to end up with so many questions
as long as all the dead hair is removed, and there are no mats or tangles.

I’ve taken him to a couple groomers who have never even seen an Afghan Hound before. Even though asking them not to scrub during bathing, they did and made a giant tangled mess of him then dried him like that! Horrible experience for him and me.
He went in combed through, came out matted!
I eventually shaved him because of it, crying the whole time.😭
He is a show dog , only needing 2 more points for Champion!
Getting his coat back to length and in good condition is so important .

We never clip a double coated breed. It would apply to blending work.

I always wanted to learn how to groom my maltipoo, how do u keep the dog from moving while grooming ? My 2 year old maltipoo moves a lot and he’s a lazy boy too hahaha and he doesn’t want to stand up hahaha 🤣 I have to take my hand and hold him up under his belly 😂.I go through this every time dry him after bathing him . That’s why I haven’t tried grooming yet . I’d appreciate any tips on when the dog doesn’t want to stand 😁🐶 also I’m left handed does that matter when grooming ?
There are blocks that keep them from laying down
If doesn't matter is you are left handed except scissors. You should purchase shears for left handed grooming. Here is a video that shows safe ways to keep your dog on the table and get better behavior.

I have a video on my channel showing how to care for an English Bulldog. The steps are the same for a Frenchie.
No Clipper work on a short coated dog like the French Bulldog. Short coated dogs rely heavily on their coat to protect the skin.

Why do some groomers pick up paw to shape?
I do this at times but when I teach I show the safest grooming methods. Keeping the foot on the table will prevent the chances of nicking or cutting the foot or pad of foot.
