    valid points another part to mention about a game having a story is it encourages players to keep playing to see the end of the story a little push further in endgame content imo :)

    Personally, i like the part in satisfactory where scaling is a challenge, and aren't hand held through everything, it gives you more of a sense of accomplishment when you figure out how to make things all the better without just easy progression all the way through.

    Jace leaves then suddenly this happens 😂 seriously though, this is excellent news for both games and this makes me very happy! Techtonica sounds like it’s doing everything right to pull in players and offer them a unique experience, and Satisfactory can still learn from Techtonica and be an even better game! ❤ And this just goes to show there’s no single right way to develop a game in this genre

    Continuing with my best of breed analysis, 🦆🕊️🦉🦅the reason Warcraft was or maybe still is the largest is because of it's story line and easy to achieve goals to make you feel busy. 🌕🌗🌑 The ability to change the camera is essential so definitely agree with that. And of course to extend the comparison Dyson Sphere is 64x🌞⭐ the magnitude but becomes cut and paste with the blueprints. Which has not yet been mentioned if they have in TechT.⛏️

      No blueprints in Techtonica as far as I found sofar, but it also doesn't really need any. The scale isn't as insane as it quickly becomes in Satisfactory, so no need to put down dozens of the same building.

    While I would agree with some of your points, the tech tree is a problem... because you have to find each of the required items to scan. Which usually isn't a problem, but it is possible to overlook the one or more of an item you need to scan. I have seen this happen to a couple of streamers. And yes, they found what they missed, but a less experienced gamer might not be able to without getting frustrated. As far as possible burn out, that's difficult to say because I have not seen the Techtonica late game to compare it to Satisfactory.

    • @TheDutchActuary
      @TheDutchActuary  Рік тому

      Good point, I have definitely overlooked items myself although there are more items to scan than you strictly need. You also get guided to the most important stuff through the quests, so it's hard to really miss anything vital.
      Still, I can see that happening and it would definitely be frustrating!

    • @TheMrTact
      @TheMrTact Рік тому

      @@TheDutchActuary Well, for most of the equipment -- yes, there are multiple items making it harder to miss. But those upgrade things (whatever they are called)... if you miss one of those, by the time you realize it you could be tough to know where to look. All that said, there are more serious problems. First off, inserters simply are not fast enough. Either they have to increase their speed or slow down the machines. But beyond that, not giving the crafting rates and belts speeds in a 2023 factory game? That is almost criminal.

    "better game" beaten the game under 6 hours and now left with nothing to do and just waiting for updates to come.. but hey it was high priced early access game with bugs and poor opt all around and barely any content to the game but no worries I can just mindlessly dig dig dig for days until they drop updates for the game but who knows when we'll get more updates? months? years? no idea.
    The idea behide the game is great but the game it's self isn't, The UI is a mess and there's no keybinds let alone this game loves to eat your GPU and CPU and has barely any content for a game worth the price it is and yes I understand it's "Early Access" but they could've made the game cheaper for the time until content came around.
    But trying to compare this to Satisfactory is a joke, That's like trying to compare this game to Factorio and we all know what game would destroy there.

  • @K162KingPin
    @K162KingPin Рік тому

    So on a fairly casual playthrough of Techtonica I'm at end game in less than 50 hours. This is rather disappointing consider the scope the game is capable of. But at this point not only is there literally nothing left to accomplish, but the game is beginning to lag severely from the amount of structures I have created in my factory. Its not even a lot of structures. in Satisfactory which I have over 1500 hours in and still plenty left to do, the amount of structures which is lagging out Techtonica is about the same as I would use in a single oil refinery which wouldn't lag at all. I have literally dozens of times more structures in Satisfactory with no lag whatsoever. The map size in Techtonica is also ridiculously small compared to Satisfactory, and there are no environmental hazards to deal with if you like that sort of thing. I mean, you don't even take fall damage.
    The point is that while Techtonica was a slightly different sort of challenge, it wasn't very challenging. It leaves you player feeling like... "ok, but where is the rest of the game" when its over. Or worse, "I'm glad its over, because the game obviously can't handle a bigger factory". So I'm not knocking Techtonica for what it is, but it is a pale shadow of what Satisfactory is.

      @TheDutchActuary  Рік тому

      Fair points! It definitely feels like there should be 'more' of just about everything. But keep in mind we're currently on version 0.1, and there is a lot more content planned to be added before release (specifically, more narrative/exploration content for 0.2)

    But I totally agree what Satisfactory around tier 4-5 just slams you in a face and says that everything you have built by now is more or less useless, and you have to start all over again but go much-much bigger. And it would have been okay if only the game provided you with the tools to deal with the complexity. Blueprints and hoverpack are helpfull but they are way too limited for the task.

      Satisfactory's transition into Computers/HMF/Rail and beyond is where I usually give up. Needing a rail network to cover the distances between the factories, but not having the mats is so frustrating. • @maxcross5454
    @maxcross5454 Рік тому +1

    I played demo before, and from what I seen back then:
    1) Game literaly never tells you how much items per minute each machine produces, or how much items per minute can belts carry. How are you suppose to plan factories then? (biggest disatvantage so far - i hope they fixed that in EA, but from what I've seen in LPs - they didn't).
    Because of that - I disagree with a point that techtonica is easier to learn.
    The rest is just small nitpicks and personal preferencies:
    2) I don't like the concept of power floors - I like manual wiring in satisfactory. I can chose what connects to what, easily separate power grids and get cool power cables all around my factory. And laying those cables is another gameplay challenge. And it also provide a sence of realism wich helps with suspension of disbelief and feeling of immersion.
    3) I don't like factorio-style "auto-upgrade", when all of your already placed buildings suddenly gets faster when you buy some upgrade, and suddenly you carefully planed factory breakes because you planned for slower buildings and now belts are full.
    4) On the opposite side - if I remember correctly from the demo - resources in techtonica are finite. I do like that. Forces you to actually plan how much items you can get from speccific ore node. Satisfactory have a very amazing concept of alternate recipies, but what's the point of picking the most efficent one if you can just wait longer? But when resources are finite - you actually motivated.
    5) VOXELS! Destructable terrain is a biggest advantage this game have over satisfactory! No need to lay foundations over not flat terrain - just make terrain itself flat!
    6) I like stylized graphics of this game more than photorealism of satisfactory. And the whole atmosphere of huge fully destructable underground world too!
    7) As for the story - from what i've seen in LPs - combination of silent protagonist and almost constantly speaking companion who tries to be serious doesn't really work for me. It's either one or the other - the sence of lonliness with a silent protagonist and no/rare companions or not silent one.
    Still - have to wait for EA to actually decide which one is better.

    • @TheDutchActuary
      @TheDutchActuary  Рік тому

      Point 1) is definitely what bugs me the most, although I get the feeling this is very much intentional. The ratio's between production speeds are such that it is pretty much impossible to make a ' perfect ' factory. Which is both a good and a bad thing, depending on your perspective.

    • @maxcross5454
      @maxcross5454 Рік тому

      @@TheDutchActuary And that's another advantage of satisfactory - underclocking.
      Even with the most awkward ratio you can simply overbuild, then underclock your factories so at least one of raw resources is maximized, then underclock the raw resource (miners) that produces more than you need - and you still get a perfect factory.
      So - awkward ratios is not really a problem.
      And also - it's not like you have to build an absolutly perfect factory, but knowing a speed is still important, at least that you place enough machines for you belt.

  • @deemo665
    @deemo665 Рік тому

    IMO Techtonica is severely lacking in the UI department as well as controls, in comparison to Satisfactory. So far as I can see, there is no way to determine machine ratios or what kind of speed they run at. Doesn't even display how much ore a miner will extract per second or minute. Or how fast a belt moves. Building is more clunky. And so on.
    That being said though it's literally day 1, so these things are expected as they are lower priority than just getting the game to work. But at the same time it would be disenguous to say that it's better than a game that's had several years to polish and add on these things.
    Overall though I am optimistic for this game and hope it does one day outshine Satisfactory.

    What is the challenge? Is this another game with no enemies, no timer, no challenge to overcome? You just build with as much time as you need, with nothing to stop you, until you meet some goal?
    I love factory games, but I can't bring myself to play satisfactory type game where there is no challenge beyond multiplying fractions together with as much time as I need to do it. There has to be something that forces me to think with consequences if I do not think adequately. That is my definition of a game.
    If I win no matter what and cannot lose, I don't feel like I am playing a game, but rather just doing repetitive tasks with no point in doing them. That might be fine for some people, but I do not get dopamine hits that way. There has to be lose conditions with a good chance of them occurring if I make stupid decisions or fall asleep on the toilet.
