    Thank you for sharing. My favorite paper to use for beads is wallpaper. I buy the wallpaper at yard sales or thrift stores, very inexpensively.

    Any time that you put nail polish or Mod Podge on your beads use petroleum jelly on the wooden item. It will keep them from sticking. Loved your beads. I really love the ones that you can't get off the sewer. I would just keep them too to look at them.

    When you mentioned the shredder I said 'Yes! great! I've got one!' Then I remembered it is a cross cutter so instead of strips of paper, I just get confetti!! :-D Love your beads.

    Good morning, Amy - So cool. Love bead making. I do not believe I have seen the flat cardboard beads. Yet, now I have. Suggestion:
    1) Making beads with CD's/DVD's.
    2) Up cycling the beads glued onto the bamboo skewers into a magic wand. Thank you, Amy. Blessings.

    • @aljohn
      @aljohn  3 роки тому

      Thank you for the sweet comment :) I have seen people melting the cds in an oven, but that kind of scares me, I will have to think if there is another way to use them as beads :)
      A wand is a good idea, I do like the way those skewers turned out, even if they were not supposed to be glued on that way, lol, happy accident :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy

    I love your teaching I like the long video. You give all the ins and outs of making the paper beads. I don't like the videos that rush thru and do not give tips FYI thank you so much this is an awesome video! Plus people can fast forward if they need to, everyone seems to push for 20 or 30 min videos but they do not necessarily make good videos like you made here
    Again thank you soooo much I always wondered how they were made the cardboard beads are so cool I never have seen them before. I have purchased these beads at the store but I like yours better. I've been making jewelry for years I'm so grateful for all of the types of paper beads you made.
    ❤ Love it!

    I love beads. I find that every step can be quite soothing. I love the sound that a container full makes when shaken. I could make beads and never stop. Oh well, there are lots of other fun things to do. I should use some self control and limit myself to just a few hours. After all, each week is a new, fun item with which to play. I am eagerly doing my homework for next week.

    I have watched quite a few videos on paperbeads so I know the basics of how to make them , except for the flat ones or your Butterfly one that was very interesting and I thank you for that , definitely will try them out although I need the with a bigger hole and what I was thinking of doing is treating a thinner dowel with some Vaseline and let it soak in and hope the glue then won't stick to it , don't know whether it will work .
    Something else that you might want to show your viewers which is not my idea is , before you roll your bead wrap a piece of foil like about an inch and a half to the top it will give you a nice finish on each side of the bead . I have used foil wrappers from candy especially if they are in colors of gold , red or purple. Thank you for another great tutorial.

    What an amazing idea to make a gap in between the butterfly. Cannot wait to try that. I suppose you could make the cereal box butterfly and then the last two in scrapbook patterned paper, to look pretty on the outside. 🤔🦋

    I was re-watching paper bead videos today and saw yours. I know you will be re-starting some of your shows so I thought I would share a couple things I have started doing.
    1) Split the toothpick or skewer with a craft knife. Poke holes up the bamboo/wood about every 1/2 an inch. Then pull, the pieces should come apart. If they do not pull apart easily, score them enough to run your craft knife along your uncut pieces. Doesn't matter if it is perfect or even. I cut the skewers into three tools. I find longer pieces hard to deal with once the next step is done.
    2) Now put a bead on each end of you cut tool. I glue one end that I use as a handle. Move it up a bit unless it is quite large. Now you can move the 2nd bead up and down and even off if you want. This will allows you to put the paper for making a bead between the split bamboo/wood. It doesn't even need to be tight together.
    3) Do not glue right by the stick. Only the end should need glue. Do not roll to tight or it will be hard to get off and now that it is less fiddly it will be easy to get to tight. If a stick ever breaks off or the stick gets stuck in the bead, a Japanese Drill or bead reamer may work. Encourage people to explore UA-cam on the subject. There are great videos and lots of uses with journals. People do make these on Etsy if you want to just purchase. Also you can make a tool with a roll pin glued in wood or baked in polymer clay/or buy one again on Etsy or Ebay for just a bit more.
    These tips for me meant no tools other than what I already had. Thank you so much for all your brilliant ideas. Hope all this info helps make for an updated video that will knock their socks off. I have seen all this in so many places that I do not know who did it originally but some of the videos were over 10 years old. Credit to UA-cam family?

    I tried getting back into making paper beads but ran into the rolling issue. Skewers did not work. I came back to this video looking for what the pins u use are called. I can’t afford those Etsy ones with duty and shipping. So I need this genius method to make one for myself. I don’t have sassafras, and will have to find a dowel I can drill. I would prefer your handle but I will settle for whatever I can find. I am concerned making hole bigger for bulbed bottom of pin, and then it needs to be glued in or wedged in to hold? I really need to get it together soon. I will be going thru your videos :) TY❤

    • @aljohn
      @aljohn  9 місяців тому +1

      Thank you for your sweet comment :) If you use your sawdust mixed with wood glue to make a paste and fill the larger hole with that when you put it together it works well. Make sure you let it sit and dry until it is solid before you use it and it will hold up for a long time, if you use it too soon you will weaken the strength of the bond and it may not last as long. tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy

    • @canadianjaneoriginal
      @canadianjaneoriginal 9 місяців тому

      @@aljohn still have not found a cotter pin. The sawdust is not available right now unless I start slicing some wood with my saw. But I can ask the hardware store to give me a handful next time I go. I used it in woodshop all the time. The stuff they sell as filler is not as good as that. Its spackle. I was wondering where ppl get their skewers sliced in perfect halves as well. Iv had no luck getting these pins but I will try harder.
