I have a new mindset when it comes to buying stuff. Affording does not mean having enough money to buy it!! Affording for me : 1. I have the money to buy it twice (at full price even) 2. I have the space to store it 3. I have the time/ event to use it 4. I have the energy to clean it 5. I have the money/ ability to repair or sustain it 😊
I love how direct and short this video is, even including an ad. This is the kind of content we need more often, precise, to the point, for the people who doesnt have 25mins to spend on youtube and still wanna support someone we like. Nice.
Great tips. 😊 What I've started to do is see if the item I want also exists in the men's section. It's almost always cheaper. And when it comes to tops it's just a little longer, which I much prefer. I recently bought a sweater at the men's that was practically identical (just 10 cm longer) and it was less than half the price. That's because they know women are willing to spend more on clothes so they just mark up the price.
In my country, menswear is more expensive than women's 🥲. They charge for the quality and amount of fabric, that's why I only buy it on sale (and love it)
Most trends are designed around planned obsolescence. That’s why I buy classics, or the least extreme versions of trends, they are more durable. I also think credit cards for fashion brands are a trap, they make it too easy to charge things to get a “rewards discount”. We later end up paying much more in interest charges than the “discount”.
I went to buy work shirts at J Crew and the price was significantly lower if you signed up for their credit card, but of course if you do that there's a chance you'll forget about it and end up paying interest later! So scammy.
Can't tell you how many times I ho to a clothing, or, secondhand store, fill my cart, then put it all away, and buy nothing. Sometimes just pushing it around the store is having it enough.☺️
Great video! I was browsing for clothes online just yesterday and wondering why easy instalment payments made their way into fast fashion. It’s not worth the sacrifice!
I tend to buy more and often if they offer free returns to the store or if you return with the post office. I feel I'm not risking or losing anything at the time, I want to just try it. Turns out 8 times out of 10 I keep the item - oops! Great video :)
We have always had "lay away". In which you paid for items in installments. I know, we were poor and my parents always used it. This is not new, just bringing it back in a different way. It was the only way my parents could afford a lot of items.
The Minimalist doc pointed out that when you put something on layaway you had to wait for it, today with a credit card or breaking it up into payments you get whatever it is that you want instantly so you don't think much about it before buying. Unlike having to make those 4 payments out of your paycheck each week before you could get school clothing for your kids or a TV or Christmas presents at K-Mart.
yes! but on the other hand, it takes more frequent haircuts to keep your hair short.... maybe THAT'S the trick-- squeeze money out of you with shampoo when your hair is long, then squeeze money out of you with constant haircuts when your hair is short, lol
@@orioborous Def another in favor of keeping my hair short then. I'd much rather fund my local hairdresser more regularly than some big beauty company.
Great video! Can you please tell me if Karma works for all European countries? Or just global stores. I live in Greece and don't know it works with stores and companies based here. I don't want to order from far away places, so as to avoid higher shipping costs and of course for environmentally-friendly reasons.
The coupon codes does not work, like it tries finding some, but like Honey, it never finds anyone, however the website saving and reminders when back on stock or sale do work. - I’m from Denmark btw.
Don't buy name brands. I have no desire to buy a top because of some dorks name on the label. And as someone mentioned - buy in the mens section. And stop following trends. Good gods, what a waste of time and money.
i wonder if clothing in "extreme" cuts is also planned obsolescence. like shirts with weird cutouts, ruching, etc... or the plus-size shopper's worst enemy: pre-tied blouses (like blouses that have been tied at the bottom and then sewn in place). i'd much rather go for a basic that i can wear differently to create different shapes-- a blouse that i can tie wherever i want, tuck into whatever bottom i'm wearing, buton to whatever height i want. if you get creative, the same top can be worn in "trendy" ways for years :D

i know scarcity is a trick but i actually did buy 2 things online this month that actually did turn out to be the last without realizing 🤣 i sent the link to my friends knowing they'd want it too and it was no longer available. oops.
Oh the nostalgia trick is so sneaky! I don't know how many Friends items I've bought and almost bought just because it has something to do with the tv show..
Is anyone else turned away by nostalgia trends? That's one that doesn't pull me in because I feel like I've been there and done that and I'm not gonna waste money rebuying things. Some of the other things get me like scarcity, but not nostalgia.

in my country most people pay for their phones on an installment plan. they usually cost about a months wages (the more you earn, the better the phone you tend to get so it's a good metric), and we buy a new one urgently when the old one was stolen or breaks. also, any big ticket item like a fridge, tv or washing machine that you buy when moving into an apartment is also bought on an installment plan. those are just things you can wait months and months to save up for!
In the US cell phones are in installments. I personally refuse to do it that way. But seriously a months wage for a PHONE? Rent fine makes sense .. but a phone ...
@@carochan86 an iphone 12 pro would be about 14 months wages for me xD. Just think that phone companies don't sell things at prices accessible overseas, and we don't make anything near US wages. I make around $1.50 an hour.

The quality of men’s clothes tends to be better than women’s, at the same price. Brands know that men won’t put up with crap.🙂
doesn't work sadly for me since only waist fitted clothes flatter me :(
in general nice tip though

The brand tricks and the anti-hauls videos are my favourites. Exquisite as usual, Jenny ♡
