  • I’m looking to select another Ball Watch. I will review the current collection of Ball watches to see if there is anything purchase worthy. The Ball brand has a great history and they make some very fine watches. I’ll review each of the collections and compare some of my favorite Ball watches.

I purchased the 40mm Engineer M Marvelight in grey about a year and a half ago and I absolutely love that watch. I used to wear a different watch every day, but the Ball has become my daily wear. It looks great whether I'm wearing a suit or blue jeans. I usually wear it with the bracelet, but it looks really good on a leather band to change it up once in a while.

I was considering the trainmaster roman. When looking for a good deal I ran across the Engineer iii marvelight. Stunning piece, I just had to have it. Have to say, it looks far better in hand than in videos. I have the blue dial, and highly recommend it.

I purchased my Ball Marvelight in 2015. At that time it was the Engineer II Marvelight and it was the only Marvelight in Ball's line up. It was my first entry into quality, mechanical, automatic watches and I have been very pleased with it. The tritium markers was the key feature that got my attention on Ball Watches. And the classic design reminiscent of a Rolex OP/Datejust combination along with a very reasonable price helped to seal the deal. This watch is my daily wearer and it has stood up very well over the years. It still looks great, it fits like a glove, and it keeps time to about +2 to +3 seconds per day. I like it so much that I bought another Ball about two years later. I got the Engineer III, Endurance 1917 Classic which is a limited edition commemorative to Ernest Shackleton's Antarctic Expedition. This watch is every bit as good as my Marvelight. Now I alternate between these two as my daily wearer. It seems to me that you cannot go wrong with a Ball watch. The quality of their products and their excellent customer service are a combination that is hard to beat.

I bought the 40mm Marvelight about 4 weeks ago, I really like it, the blue dial is nice looking and has kept time within +/- 4 seconds daily, overall the watch is nicely made, the light tubes on mine are blue with the top of the hour and hands are green..for the money you get a good and accurate watch that will outlive you

Would also go for the engineer m in movement and Gas lights. Also love the Glass back, even if it means not that much magnetic protection, but i still love it. Like with so many things: would be easy, if you can choose your favorite details of the whole collection and stuff it in one piece, it would be kinda easy

Hello, this may sound like a story; so earlier in March I purchased the Engineer III Marvelight from one of their online retailers in the UK and needless to say, the watch took way longer than expected as he ran out of stock alongside the issues with shipping internationally (I live in the Middle East). I received the watch around mid June which tbh was more of a treat as my birthday was in late May. My first impression of the watch was it was a bit too blingy and a bit of fingerprints magnet, anyway I accepted it, i loved the lume on it; 2 days later, i took the watch to fit it on my wrist in one of the shops I regularly visited at that time and then went to hangout with my friends after that. I got back home to check my emails and I got one from Ball, announcing the Engineer III Marvelight Chronometer and I dropped my jaws and I immediately wanted to have it somehow, some way. I contacted the retailer in the UK where I purchased the watch from, telling him I am interested in the newer model of the Engineer model, and to my surprise he gladly accepted. I shipped the watch back to him and he put in my name for the Engineer III Marvelight Chronometer (40mm, blue dial) which I should be hopefully receiving it in November-December.

Bob, A really fine video. The Swiss Ball is making a name for itself in the way that Sinn has. Good quality at a fair price. The namesake of the brand is Webb C. Ball who is the greatest name in rail timekeeping and an organizational genius who revolutionized timekeeping standards in the watch industry in much the way that Ray Kroc revolutionized the hamburger stand. Mr. Ball went from a small town Ohio watch repairer to the Chief of Timekeeping for 125,000 miles of American railroad lines. Mr. Ball is immortalized by the colloquial railroad saying “On the ball” which means “on time.” European railroads also adopted his time standards. One fun fact, although Ball was the king of railroad watches, the American Ball Watch Company never manufactured even one watch. They subcontracted out their watch production to Hamilton, Illinois, Waltham, etc. who created watches which were identified on the dials as Ball watches and sold by Ball. Ball was the official watch company of the five major railroad unions (organized by job function, one for the engineers, one for the firemen, etc.). Railroad workers had to have their watches tested for accuracy every few weeks at Ball certified inspection stations run by watch repairers certified by Ball that proliferated in every railroad town. Ball died in the early 1930s. In addition to being the head of his own company, Ball was also an Executive Vice President of Hamilton which at that time was probably the great American watch company. The Swiss company bought the rights to the Ball name from the Ball family and the Swiss company is obviously doing right by Mr. Ball’s memory.

I'm discovering your video a few months later, but I actually just got a Ball Engineer III Marvelight. I got the silver dial (but it looks more white to me, almost like a pearl). I'm very satisfied with it. My wife has a Rolex OP Date, and I think this one rivals that. Plus it has the same 904L steel. The model number I got, I was only able to find them at a AD in New Jersey. I do like Ball watches and great quality they put out...
For me the $$$ is fine for what you get...
    There’s always pros and cons
With a in-house movement cause usually you have to have Ball to do there servicing and that could costs more then having someone else do.
Lastly , for me most Ball’s are too thick for me to feel comfortable

Great video, very educational for me. I am thinking of getting another Ball as well, but I will probably stick to the Ladies options which are more limited. Most of the watches in the 40mm range sound like they would be too big for me to want to wear very often. My Trainmaster Eternity Ladies is a great size. I am intrigued by the Moon Phase watch. I have to say I like the Conductor line with that rectangular-ish shape, but I don't think they have any in Ladies size.

    Watched your video again...
Saw it when you first did it..
And it’s the best information anywhere on these 3 models...
There’s a lot of great quality options in the $1,000-1,500 range... but I think Ball has one of the absolute best dials out of every one else...
I’m thinking real real hard on either getting the marvelight 2 or 3 (basically same $$)
I think the 3 has better antimagnetic rating and better shock rating as well)
    But looks exactly the same..
And I do really like the James cook model too
It’s a limited rum of only 250 ? Units and still can get one..
    As of today...
All 3 of these are around $1,150 on a few sites....
I usually take about 4-6 months in researching and re....researching to make sure of my choice...
I usually start with spending 4-6 months looking at everything that gets my interest and then narrow it down and down again to I get about 3
Then relook at those again and then decide...
    Anyway,
It’s part of buying a quality personal watch
Thank you for doing these videos
    Blessings

    Thanks for the video.
I’m considering finally pulling the trigger on one.
I’m interested in the Engineer M Marvelight Blue - 40mm - Ref. NM2032C-S1C-BE. $1,980 USD seems like a bargain for an house movement from ball.
What’s your take on that one?
Also considering the Monta Noble for a similar price in blue.
    Keep up good work 👍

      After watching entire video.
You answered my question in great detail!
The ball with 904 stainless steel is now being considered too. Though it lacks the in house movement, it’s highly desirable

Glad you found some information on the video. I think Monta are nice watches too. Of course, they don't have this brand history that Ball has. Good luck.

The pro to the Ball band is the lume: it's the best. But too many cons: too heavy, too thick, too inaccurate, too much depreciation, too expensive. Ball should make a lighter, thinner, accurate, lower-priced quartz model.

    • @adventureswithtime
      @adventureswithtime  3 роки тому

Mine is not too thick or heavy and doesn't have a lot of lume. I love it. I agree in that I don't like the multi-color lume.

I haven't looked at it detail; just some pictures. The face style, with the timing bezel isn't to my liking. It makes the dial look too small for the case. But that's just my opinion without having seen the watch in person and not looking at the specs in detail.

I’m looking at the EOD DM3200A do you know anything specific to this model? It is suggestively new but I cannot find the date it was started. Obviously, since it includes Tritium components its date of birth matters more.

I've been eyeing up the Ball Engineer II Marvelight NM2026C-S6-BE, but the Engineer III Marvelight looks almost completely identical. I've tried to research both models on forums and apparently they use different steel grades and an updated movement, but found out there's even more variations within both Engineer II Marvelight and Engineer III Marvelight. I'm so confused 😂I am trying to get as close as possible to the exact Ball watch featured in Watchfinder's "Sub-£1,000 Watches" video here on UA-cam, but with a blue dial and wouldn't mind a better movement and higher grade steel. Any recommendations?

    • @adventureswithtime
      @adventureswithtime  3 роки тому

I do see that they've come out with some different models, I think. I don't remember seeing a grey dial variety. It is hard to decide. I for one, don't like the multi-colored lume on watches. I'm not a fan of blue dials on watches. So it really is up to the buyer to decide what you like best. If you can, try to see them in person; which I know is hard to do with Ball watches.
