As a Hamilton fan (oof) when coming out as nb and picking my name I've been considering Theo because one of my fave Hamilton songs is 'dear, Theodosia'
I chose Virgil after watching Thomas Sanders and fell in love with the name. The meaning is vigilant/protective, and I chose the last name Ames because it means friend. Basically, Protective Friend.
@AN-ou6qu you dont have to. some people have shitty parents they'd rather not associate with anymore so to finally feel completely free they change their last name.
I didn't ask my parents what name they wanted for me when they knew I was trans, I had asked them 6 years previous to me coming out (I came out aged 12) and the name they wanted was Diezel and I loved it so I remembered it for years and shorten it at school to Daz. My parents aren't accepting but as my schools first out trans student they are taking it very well. Diezel is a Scottish name and I'm half Irish and half ??? and Irish and Scottish are quite similar in terms of names, language and origin so it seems right for me and I've been going by Daz for about 3 years now.
I chose James because this I named a comfort character James a bunch of years ago and basically wrote him as an idealized version of myself, so I decided to pursue being the happier me by naming myself James.

I have never told anyone in real life the name I have chosen for myself (Eli), but I still have a story of how I came to pick that name. Initially I wanted a name that started with the same letter as my birth name (which you can see as my account name, I'm too terrified to change it), and I too wanted a space/astronomy themed name. After a while I decided on Castor, which is one of the brightest stars in the night sky and just seemed like a really cool masc leaning gender neustral name. However after a bit I felt that it was a bit too strange, and I wasn't too sure the best way to pronounce it in an Australian accent. Then I moved on to finding a name that was similar to my birth middle name (Ellen), and while perusing baby name websites, came across Eli. It wasn't a space themed name, but I really connected with it. I'm not sure whether I ever want other people calling me that name, or just use it for myself. I spent like, a year on baby naming websites, adding to a list of potential ones and narrowing it down. I ended up choosing Kestrel because it isn’t really gendered one way or another, the first site I saw it on said masculine then another said feminine. It’s a type of bird, a small bird of prey, and I really like the way it sounds, my friends call me Kes, my little siblings call me Kessy or they try to say Kestrel, but their four and five so pronunciation is not their strong suit. There were names on the list, even in the top five that were there because they had the same first initial or the name my parents were going to give me, but none of those really fit and they were only really there because I thought other people would find it easier to come to terms with if they were similar, which isn’t necessarily the best way to choose a name.
On the last day of Elem. School a while back, I was with my friends at a Sweet Frog (frozen yogurt place, you may have heard of it). One of my friends came with his family, and I saw his mom, baby sister, and his brother, who looked about 13. I asked, "Is that your brother?" He said, "yeah he's trans," and then quickly said, "gotta go," and he seemed very embarrassed. I haven't seen him since, but some of my other friends text him, yet I haven't told them what he said. I wish I could tell him that he shouldn't feel embarrassed and that I appreciate the LGBTQ community. I want everyone to know that people out there care for them even if it doesn't seem like it.
I chose a nickname from my childhood actually. My elementary school teacher and my grandma called me Ami (German pronunciation) and I LOVED that nickname so much, it’s androgynous and cute! I feel so much more comfortable with being called Ami. 🌈

My birth name is Lauren, and I’ve been thinking about the name Ashton (it’s been a few months) because I’m a non-binary person and my parents were gonna call me Finn. Any suggestions, idk I think that maybe if I change it by a lot then (Lauren to Ashton) people wouldn’t use it
If you like the name Finn, I think it could totally be gender neutral! And don’t worry too much about your name being super different from your birth name. My birth name is nothing at all like Ashton but I don’t think it impacted people switching over.
Ashton or Fin seem fine. Don't worry if it's to different from your birth name. At the end of the day it's your name and whatever name you feel suits you best will work.
Chasie Dady-why don't we, Logan fandoms it’s quite a gender neutral name. How I chose mine was how i felt when I used it and how I felt so maybe try that?
My name is Ash and I chose it by going to a baby name website. I didn't want a name that started with the same letter as my birthname (you can see that in the account name). I picked my favourite few, and I couldn't decide between them, so I sent them to my friends, saying they were suggestions for a gender neutral book character's name (I write short stories). They all agreed that Ash was the best and I thought so too. The next day, at school, I came out to my friends as nonbinary and asked them to call me Ash :). Thanks for the video Ashton, it really helped in the process of picking my name.
OMG- i asked my parents what they'd name me if i were born male awhile back and they said "Hamish" i- NO JUST NO not my cup of tea, no offense to any Hamish out there not for me i shall be looking elsewhere
I went with the masculine version of my birth name to make it easier on everyone else but now I'm not a very big fan of it anymore. I already changed it legally so I don't know if I'll change it again but I kinda want to... I feel like it would be too much to ask of people though
i’ve already changed my name twice. I’ve gone by Abben for a year now and i kinda am thinking about changing it again,,,,,,, to Allen. it’s only two letters apart.
It's really hard because my friends constantly judge me because I can't stay put on a single name. All of them (who are trans,) got to try out names online during COVID. I only came out at the end of COVID, thus IRL I've gone through names IRL. Genuinely hurts that people know past me, and I'm so gutted about how honestly difficult and annoying it must be on their end but I go through every day being called my birth name at home and then 2 names I said I don't mind at school. Still don't know what name is my name, boutta start my third year as a dude. It hurts, man.
3:03 totally off-topic but man I'm sorry, your dog scared tf out of me (but thanks for this video, this is super helpful!! I thought leon was right for me, but for some reason it just never really resonated with me. my mom said I should just wait til a name finds ME, so I guess that's what ima do. :) PLUS she said she was gonna name me oliver if I was a boy but that's LITERALLY ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR FTM NAMES)
I’m a musician and the name I use online for everything is based on my irl birth name which I’ve always been kind of averse to (it’s pretty aggressively gendered and ostentatious). I still use that name for online things but I’ve loved the name Shea/Shai for about 4 years now (drag race may or may not have had something to do with it lol) and have been wanting to use it for a while but keep my birth name as like a middle name or something bc I’m nonbinary.
I chose my name Lye by watching a lot of videos and going on many websites to see what names are similar to lily (my dead name) but could work for both genders I also wanted an uncommon name as lily is such a common name it literally disgusted me. When picking your name think if you want it to be unique or lean a certain way. remember guys there’s no right or wrong way to pick your name inspired or not as long as it’s comfortable
so, my parents were going to name me angel but didn't want me to get bullied so now im considering angelo but idk. im very chinese and angelo is like italian so that's kinda weird. it's the only name im really considering though bc I don't think many other names suit me?

I'm a trans man. I use 2 names, and they're both related to things I like, but I didn't name myself after them. The name I want to use as a middle name, however, is directly named after someone. That name is Nigel. Named after Nigel Bailey from Relic Hunter. I feel like I can relate to that character in a way,as well.
My birth name is Maggie, and ive been thinking about going by Valentine after Vincent Valentine since I’m a huge fan of FF, but I wonder if it sounds too feminine? D: I also considered Reno, since I love him a lot and think his name is quite cool. I kind of want an FF inspired name but I’m not sure how to go about it… ^^’’

@@gachaheatpolice1107 hi. If you want to come out (whether that is to family, friends, teachers, anyone) and you feel that you would be accepted, go for it! I personally think it's good to come out when you are younger as it gives you time to settle into your newfound identity as you grow, plus taking things like puberty blockers (if they are available to you, and safe to use) might stop any stronger dysphoria from any very typically female/male (I don't know which applies to you) characteristics. As this is a few months on, I don't know how you're doing, but do what you want and try to stay happy!

I picked Clarke because it’s very close to my birthname in spelling, it’s gender-neutral but masc feeling (I’m a non-binary transmasc), and DC is my special interest and I see Clark Kent/Bruce Wayne/etc. as examples of the kinds of positive masculinity I want to embody.
I wish I didnt rush into changing my name to Leo (More masucline than my deadname and I rushed because I was so excited to finally understand being trans and that i could pick a name) as I dont really like my name I have. I really *really* want to change my name Mitchell because I love it so much and it was inspired by someone I look up to but I feel like an ass for not waiting a while longer as my family and school just got used to calling me Leo.

Im transitioning next year and I want to be named after a Disney Princess my last name is white so I was thinking snow but then I also thought of Giselle from enchanted which one should I pick everyone I need yalls input
Dang, I've looked at so many baby name websites and tried hundreds of names with them all feeling awful on me 😞 I wasn't really supposed to be born (I was a birth control whoopsie) but my parents only wanted a girl and didn't have any other names except the one I was born with. I've asked friends for names and they can't think of any I like either, my fiancé only likes names I don't like... I just don't know what to do anymore. I've tried no meaning, making names myself, names with certain meanings, certain cultures, etc.
One tip I have is if you think you like a name but you write it down and don't vibe with it, consider alternative spellings of it. One name I considered was Jet as a gender neutral nickname of my birth name. I liked it initially but the more I saw it the less I liked it, so I thought about Jett... same name, one extra t, and I vibe with it a bit more (don't think I'll stick with it though) Also, once you've compiled a few names you really like, stand in front of a mirror and introduce yourself with your chosen names, or even try taking a video if you're comfortable.
a thing abt ur name and internet friends: it’s a good idea to tell them how to pronounce it! since ur probably telling them ur name over text, they may be pronouncing it in their head all wrong. i changed my name from finn to dallon, and my best friend thought it was pronounced like “dale-on”. @@enderrbean I was just about to say that!!
At the end of the day it's your name and whatever name you feel suits you best will work.
thank you! your videos help me tons!!!
Love this!
In Russia there are 2 names that are used both for boys and girls, and since im agender, i use one of them
My mom wanted to name me Jessie if I had been born a boy and I kinda like that what do you guys think?!
Chasie Dady-why don't we, Logan fandoms it’s quite a gender neutral name. How I chose mine was how i felt when I used it and how I felt so maybe try that?
I litterally just randomly told my friend to name me, cuz I couldnt decide and Ive gone by that name since.
I kinda like just going by a soup of different names
i deadass named myself Blocky and i have no regrets
@mae_09 :D
That's a really cute story .
Also can I steal that idea?
@@thebookwormhotel5336 sure :)
I almost just kept my birth name but then I made my name Blocky
i’ve already changed my name twice.
3:03 totally off-topic but man I'm sorry, your dog scared tf out of me
(but thanks for this video, this is super helpful!!
U HAVE A POODLE?!
ITS SO FREAKING CUTE
I still can’t decide between cosmo and Nico (naming myself after fictional characters and hot bass players yay)
I chose Jaden James...I love the name and my best friend helped me and her and I couldn't have chosen a better name
I am a trans non bianairy right now I asked my friends out of a few names and they liked Ashton/Ash and I liked it to so I have that name for my masculine name too
I’m so confused because there’s sooo may names I don’t know what to choose!!
i love clancy from resident evil 7 so thats my name :]
The dog jumpscared me
My name means 'the dark one'
I was Jack, now I'm Jackie.
I wanted to be named aragog but mom didn't want to think of a giant spider every time she looked at me
My birth name literally just means “lame”... thanks mom and dad
usually i definitely would take a characters name from a book series that i adore, but i dont think i can be named ‘Squirrelflight’ …
I also considered Reno, since I love him a lot and think his name is quite cool. I kind of want an FF inspired name but I’m not sure how to go about it… ^^’’
Guys I'm struggling so bad thinking of a name. I like sam but I'm in the spn fandom and I love sammy do I cant do that to him. Could you give me some names? Unisex plz
1. This video helped me a lot oml
2. I almost spilled all of my food on the floor when I noticed the MCRX flag in the background... oops.
I feel like I’m too young to come out but I am trans do I hide it?
@@gachaheatpolice1107 hi. If you want to come out (whether that is to family, friends, teachers, anyone) and you feel that you would be accepted, go for it! I personally think it's good to come out when you are younger as it gives you time to settle into your newfound identity as you grow, plus taking things like puberty blockers (if they are available to you, and safe to use) might stop any stronger dysphoria from any very typically female/male (I don't know which applies to you) characteristics. As this is a few months on, I don't know how you're doing, but do what you want and try to stay happy!
What do you think a masculine (trans male/demiboy) version of mackenzie?
i’m rlly late but personality i think max would be close?
I’m still trying to choose between 2 name the names are gunner or bud and idk what to chose
"more on the masculine side but still slightly nonbinary" - I feel that. My name is Alex Riley btw
suggest for some nonbinary folks consider my birthname or a varitian of it but the same saying :D
my birthname is shea (sh-A)(short a it just the letter) shea the name is unisex but shea is more feminie used and shay is more masuline used :3
I’m choosing between Remington(lead singer of my favorite band), Oliver(matches my face), or Mason(kinda like my birth name)
Zak Ryder brand is my name. It means God remembers I'm a strong warrior
already found a name but I'll watch this. seems cool
Ironic thing is that it's Phoenix and I'm scared of heights
I needed thissss!
yay! i hope it helps
I don’t *think* I’m trans, but I do have a name idea for a transmasc version of myself. Jonathan. Don’t really know why, I’m just attached to it. Perhaps I’ll come back to this video in a decade as Jonathan. Perhaps I will never be Jonathan. Maybe I’ll one day have a kid or pet named Jonathan. Who knows
Ever since I saw Ladies in Lavender, I've loved the name Andrea for a man. It's so pretty...

My Name is Jordan :o
Did you end up changing your name? I'm in the same situation right now
@ Yeah, I changed it like nearly 5 times by now. Though my parents only know 2 of the 5
good advice as always :)
Your dog came out of no where and it scared me
at least dogs are a good surprise?
im trans (ftm) and my birth name is Catlin. I cant decide on a name. my options are Camerin, Elliot, and James
Im transitioning next year and I want to be named after a Disney Princess my last name is white so I was thinking snow but then I also thought of Giselle from enchanted which one should I pick everyone I need yalls input
my first an middle name is noel elizabeth and i was thinking of changing it to noah elliot
I haven't been able to choose between a bunch of names kms
(Marshall, Percy, Oliver, Dee?.??.?)
I liked it initially but the more I saw it the less I liked it, so I thought about Jett... same name, one extra t, and I vibe with it a bit more (don't think I'll stick with it though)
Also, once you've compiled a few names you really like, stand in front of a mirror and introduce yourself with your chosen names, or even try taking a video if you're comfortable.
My nickname in primary school was Erik but I really like the name Tírnann so I don't know what name to use when I start to transition .
I'm officially Zak Ryder Brand
My name is Jack and I love it cause it literally means man (why am i so extra omg)
a thing abt ur name and internet friends: it’s a good idea to tell them how to pronounce it! since ur probably telling them ur name over text, they may be pronouncing it in their head all wrong. i changed my name from finn to dallon, and my best friend thought it was pronounced like “dale-on”. (its supposed to sound like Dallas, but with an o instead of an a)
My name is Alexis but I like Aaron for my boy name. So what do you think?
Love Aaron . Burr, Sir. Hamilton?
Eheheh, uh, about your name, if you like it, go ahead, be Aaron or whoever, you could always change it anyways. I know someone online who went from Luke to James. And I’m thinking about changing mine.
Noose ? Hey a Hamilton fan! I'm nb and changing to Theo (Theodosia)!!
