    Greetins friends,
I worked for a yankee company, which had been manufacturing here in Scotland for 42 years. When we were in the process of setting up a union, an advisor from the national union which we wanted to affiliate to, warned our workforce that 'with American firms - the more the workers become organised - the more likely the workers are to lose their jobs.' We established a union - and 2 years later, the company was moved to Poland!

Not as dramatic, but similar story what happened to me in 1996. I was an accountant at NCR Corp in Dayton Ohio. After keeping my job through a series of musical chairs style downsizings, I was let go in the latest downsizing. The next week I received in the mail a big lump of glass etched with my name and "Top Performer" as part of the financial reporting team. This is the irrational type of stuff capitalists do when the higher-ups want their bonuses.

Welcome to the Colosseum, I’m your host and todays show brings back those wild and crazy entertainers you love (I can’t quite call them gladiators, bar fly comedians? perhaps)
It seems that the powers than run this country have run out of credible candidates or puppets to be more honest, for this national sporting event. Perhaps… they don’t need to find and stage credible or truly qualified (moral) political figures anymore - when it has become obvious how low public thinking and consciousness has descended. I suppose this is the most successful shell game to ever draw the bystanders or suck in the bettors.
But I must give credit where it’s due. Where else, or when else has this game been so successful? (Well, maybe Vince McMann’s WWF wrestling federation or Jerry Springer), surely television has increasingly conditioned us in the last several decades. It would be funny except for the fact that we “supposedly” hold the steering wheel to the most powerful nation on earth.
But, back to crediting a devised system of genius, it is impressive to see how society has been pounded in believing that we (and Israel) are the greatest democracies on earth. Where else can you stage the same puppet show, with the same puppets!,, over and over again? (Well Israel I suppose, Russia). The system has been proven to work; its success overshadows all others in just observing its chronological time in existence. At no time do the powers that control this nation have to expose themselves, the wizards behind the curtain. With only two candidates, If one paid prop loses or is assassinated they win anyway holding the strings on both of them. Theatrical rhetoric may express opposition among the cheers and boos, but policy remains the same and proves to be so repeatedly. And, of course in the event of violence, the spineless string masters never have to suffer or even be recognized on a campaign poster or wall where even evil dictators were exposed.

Democracy is when those who make decisions on your behalf have the duty to ask for your consent first. Today's republics are actually modern oligarchies where the interest groups of the rich are arbitrated by the people, that is, you can choose from which table of the rich you will receive crumbs.
The "fatigue" of democracy occurs when there is a big difference between the interests of the elected and the voters, thus people lose confidence in the way society functions. As a result, poor and desperate citizens will vote with whoever promises them a lifeline, i.e. populists or demagogues.
The democratic aspect is a collateral effect in societies where the economy has a strong competitive aspect, that is, the interests of those who hold the economic power in society are divergent. Thus those whealty, and implicitly with political power in society, supervise each other so that none of them have undeserved advantages due to politics. For this reason, countries where mineral resources have an important weight in GDP are not democratic (Russia, Venezuela, etc.), because a small group of people can exploit these resources in their own interest. In poor countries (Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, etc.) the main exploited resource may even be the state budget, as they have convergent interests in benefiting, in their own interest, from this resource. It is easy to see if it is an oligarchy because in a true democracy laws would not be passed that would not be in the interest of the many.
The first modern oligarchy appeared in England at the end of the 17th century. After the bourgeois revolution led by Cromwell succeeded, the interest groups of the rich were unable to agree on how to divide their political power in order not to reach the dictatorship of one. The solution was to appoint a king to be the arbiter. In republics, the people are the arbiter, but let's not confuse the possibility of choosing which group will govern you with democracy, that is, with the possibility of citizens deciding which laws to pass and which not to.
The solution is modern direct democracy in which every citizen can vote, whenever he wants, over the head of the parliamentarian who represents him. He can even dismiss him if the majority of his voters consider that he does not correctly represent their interests.
It's like when you have to build a house and you choose the site manager and the architect, but they don't have the duty to consult with you. The house will certainly not look the way you want it, but the way they want it, and it is more certain that you will be left with the money given and without the house. It is strange that outside of the political sphere, nowhere, in any economic or sports activity, will you find someone elected to a leadership position and who has failure after failure and is fired only after 4 years. We, the voters, must be consulted about the decisions and if they have negative effects we can dismiss them at any time, let's not wait for the soroco to be fulfilled, because we pay, not them. In any company, the management team comes up with a plan approved by the shareholders. Any change in this plan must be re-approved by the shareholders and it is normal because the shareholders pay.

      @jgalt308 3 місяці тому

No..."Democracy is ( NOT ) when those who make decisions on your behalf have the duty to ask for your consent first. "
If that were a duty of a democracy, somebody would have noted it somewhere, and it would be
included in the definition and the law.
And all the rest of the words employed are used without clarity.
So you have a garbled mess... that explains NOTHING in any real sense, offers no solution,
and assumes that the perceived interests of individuals can somehow manage to resolve a
question that results in a general benefit for all concerned.

I think simply saying that Russia replaced the EU and US with China and India to sell oil and gas is a bit too simplistic. You have to consider why the sanctions have not called for a full embargo and that is because several EU countries both rely upon it and quietly still want to continue trading with Russia.

A rather remarkable book caught my attention a few weeks ago. The book was on a shelf of books for sale at my local library. The title is "The Crisis of the Middle-Class Constitution" written by Ganesh Sitaraman. The book was published in 2017 by Alfred A. Knopf. Professor Sitaraman was at the time an associate professor of law at Vanderbilt Law School and a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress. Today he is a full professor. He has written two other books, both published in 2019.
His book takes the reader on an historical journal thru the struggle to establish and maintain republican government. He provides details that lead to the collapse in every society, tracing the collapse to the growing concentration of control over landed property and, as a result, of political power. During the first century of the existence of the United States of America, the key element was access to free and inexpensive land that enabled widespread ownership of property and a dominant middle class (at least among White males, initially). There were periods of serious crisis, of course. By the end of the rebellion against Britain, the federal government under the Articles of confederation was in disarray. The paper (i.e., fiat) currency was nearly worthless. State government attempts to raise taxes on a cash-strapped population led to uprisings in many states, Shay's Rebellion being the most well known. Debt burdens could not be met, and property was being taken by foreclosure in large numbers throughout the states. Sentiments were growing in support of some type of limited monarchy.
The solution was to form a much stronger form of national government under a written constitution. And so, the United States managed to survive this early crisis, spread across the continent and slowly create a property-owning middle class. Professor Sitaraman provides the evidence to reinforce what many of us already understand: the middle class is under attack, and our democracy is in crisis.
What has brought on the crisis? He writes about the emergence of the plutocracy. And, importantly he offers potential solutions. Whether one concludes he has offered the appropriate solutions to our society's problems, this book is an excellent primer on the history of how we have come to our current state of affairs.

It is a beneficial thing to see/have a unionised job if the union is honest and true to left wing/working class principles. But lets be honest now, those starbucks workers have managed to regain a working condition that was increasingly taken away from all post 1950 that was being achieved by the turn of the 20th Century onwards by the majority of western workers. 75 years just to tread water in effort to return to where you were...
When you reading this, see a strike end with a resolution in favour of workers, you probably rejoice, but all I do is hold my head in my hands and weep for the fact that all the union has done is arranged an extra few peanuts per hour to keep the workers in line and obedient within a top down anti democratic capitalist system, peanuts that will be undone the minute the next inflation spike or capitalist downturn comes, as they always do.
In this fact, unions are enablers of capitalism, not fighters against it. I have never, ever, in my near 50 years, seen a union here in the UK nor Europe nor the US nor beyond, that demands to put themselves out of work by demanding an end to capitalism itself. And that should have been their overriding goal from day 1, it certainly was back in the start of unions in Victorian UK but today they have no wider thinking and only serve to re-enforce capitalism itself.
Without a strong socialist and communist movement behind them, what good are they to anyone today in the long run, as like Keynes said of the need for change NOW, ... "In the long run... we are all dead."

Marx, living in the 19th century, understood CAPITAL ACCUMULATION, WAGE SUPPRESSION, STATE FASCISM as the greatest social problems of his time period. After WW2 wages did rise to STIMULATE PRIVATE CONSUMPTION and PRIVATE CAPITAL was directed towards REAL ESTATE and STOCK MARKETS. What are the problems of high technocratic late-capitalism in the 21st century?????? Many MARXIST say WAGE SUPPRESSION and lack of CAPITAL TAXATION, but the real problem is TOO HIGH PRICES OF ALL CONSUMPTION GOOD AND HOUSES BY CRONY CAPITALISM. This means that the function of STATE SOCIALISM should not be to increase the power of the UNIONS, nor to raise the prices of ENERGY to reduce pollution, nor to protect the NATIONAL INDUSTRY, but to develop POWER over the CAPITAL MARKETS and the SERVICE INDUSTRY to reduce all prices for the workers with at least 50%.........

Most of their orientation videos are about 5-15 mins long (policies, customers, safety, etc.) They have ONE video, with full production, that is 45 minutes long all about why unions are bad for Wegman's workers. The fictional narrative has our lead as an Eastern European guy explaining to a coworker why this country is great and how he wouldn't have it so good if Wegman's had a union. ALL sources of energy MUST be profitable & as the new subsidized technologies to create energy emerge, grow & become corporate entities, they too will throw their money & weight around in Washinton etc... too, to more secure & favor their business' futures & profits as well. It is the way of all business here & around the world (believe it or not). Countless millions of Americans "desperately depend" on the products & income from the oil & gas industry as an employer, & millions of middle class & elderly folks are only surviving & housed because of their oil & gas income, which for most of them is split up between multiple beneficiaries of their oil & gas rights; therefore it isn't making them "rich". It is keeping them out of poverty & once that's gone there is no safety net. When that industry is gone there will be massive residential property foreclosures, even more homelessness & shuttered businesses because there is no other industries in America inwhich to absorb & employ ALL THOSE TENS OF MILLIONS OF PEOPLE. When that industry is gone, even with the negative aspects of it, there will never be another industry that has or ever will be able to employ & economically benefit so many millions of middle-class people in the US.

So when will the Nutty Professor talk about his alternative to the cost (and profit) of extracting coal, oil and gas. I'm talking about the cost (and profit) of extracting lithium and cobalt from the earth for the storage of electricity. The environmental fallout from lithium mining is clear and far-reaching. Massive quantities of fresh water, classified as a precious resource in these arid regions, are diverted for lithium mining operations, fueling the salt flats brine. This leaves local communities and wildlife parched. Sulfuric acid and sodium hydroxide used in lithium extraction penetrate the soil and water, poisoning ecosystems and endangering species. Research from the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society shows that two flamingo species in Chile are threatened because of lithium mining. Deforestation, habitat destruction and water pollution further exacerbate the ecological toll. The delicate balance of nature is disrupted, which leaves long-lasting damage that takes generations to heal. The carbon dioxide and other greenhouse emissions that come with the process of lithium mining, extraction and overall production are worse for the climate than the production of fossil fuel-powered vehicles. A study from The Wall Street Journal in 2019 revealed that 40% of the total climate impact caused by the production of lithium-ion batteries comes from the mining process itself. Smartphones, computers and electric vehicles may be emblems of the modern world, but their rechargeable batteries are frequently powered by cobalt mined by workers laboring in slave-like conditions in the Democratic Republic of Congo. When will Wolff produce a video about child slave labor used to mine cobalt used for lithium ion batteries? I'll wait.

I put this comment on your last video, decline of an empire, and I'm putting it again here:
I've watched many of your lectures, and I do not understand the parallels you draw between the G7 and BRICS. Yes, it is true that BRICS has increased in economic power, but you do not mention the other side of that. China, the most powerful of those nations, has immense problems with human rights violations and workers' rights violations. The US also has issues, but it is at least a state where you can make a video like the one you have posted. It does not prosecute and under-represent its workers to the extent that China does. Examples of this in China include Uyghur forced labor, exploitation of migrant workers, Foxconn suicides, the Hukou system, and many more.
You claim the US is in decline and that China, a communist country, is doing better. China is not a communist country; it is a racist autocracy that practices oppressive policies at levels incomparable to those of the US. The US's domestic policy can be seen as exploitative, but at the very least, there is the potential for change.
China has leveraged the fact that they don't have to treat their workers well or pay them fairly to get where they are now. If you are going to blame the US for exploitation, you should also blame China and its version of communism. If you argue that "But that's not real communism," then I can reasonably respond, "What the US is doing isn't real capitalism either." You are cherry-picking examples and misrepresenting them to push your pre-conceived agenda. To equate and compare the two highlights a gross lack of fairness on the subject and presents a narrative that is false: the United States is capitalist and failing, while China is communist and rising. This narrative is misinformed and ignores a vast number of other issues.
The process of finding the truth requires a critical examination of ideas. I don't say this to present an agenda or to discourage, but simply to participate in civil discourse. From the videos I have seen of you, you seem to hold socialism in high regard, which is completely fair, but I don't think you are presenting a fair and balanced argument. To advocate for the change you desire, you must be fair and equally critical of both narratives, else you set the precedent for further problems down the line, as socialist policies become less scrutinized, even if they are bad.
Furthermore, your critique of the US military does not represent the entire effect the US military has on the world. Yes, it is true to say we lost in Vietnam and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were not very reasonably justifiable. This is fair criticism. But let us not detract from the fact that, for better or worse, the United States possesses, by all estimates, the most capable and versatile military on the planet and provides defense to many nations around the world. This presence has contributed to at least some degree of stability for the Western world and beyond. In your critique of America, you fail to mention this.
In your video on tariffs, you claim the government is lying about them, that tariffs have pros and cons, and you advised not listening to them. So why is it, then, that when you provide a biased and misrepresentative interpretation of the United States and its decline, we should listen to you? You preach fairness and equality but fail to demonstrate either yourself.
Under Fox News comments, I see people praising Trump like he is Jesus Christ. Although you may think you are different, the same type of comments are here as well-a blind acceptance of your words as gospel.
I do not understand why. I am trying to come to an understanding of the world and the truth of the matter and cover a lot of content. I implore anyone to respond to this and please point out my errors in logic.
Thank you, I hope my words reach you and I hope you understand I do not critique you to push an agenda, but to try and reach a mutual understanding.

A channel that champions democracy and socialism yet avoids reaching a mutual understanding while catering primarily to those who pay for content undermines the very principles it claims to uphold. Democracy is founded on open dialogue, transparency, and equitable participation. By only selecting opinions that clearly agree with them, the channel contributes to an echo chamber. Even if someone is wrong, as long as they are respectful and abide by basic decency, they deserve to be heard.
If the channel selectively engages with its audience based on financial contributions, it mirrors the very inequities it condemns. The democratic society it advocates for requires that voices be heard equally, not based on financial donations. Socialism, too, advocates for the fair distribution of resources and opportunities. A channel that limits interaction to paying members contradicts this ideal by creating a tiered system of access to information and dialogue. This not only alienates a portion of the audience but also diminishes the credibility of the channel's advocacy.
For the channel to genuinely embody the principles of democracy and socialism, it must commit to inclusivity and openness. Otherwise, it risks being perceived as just another platform that criticizes those it disagrees with, further contributing to a society of division and exclusion.
Your phrase "The Professor is not interested in 'mutual understanding'" is particularly concerning, if it is actually true. How is this democratic? How is this helpful? How can you have a beneficial dialogue if people are not allowed to express their differing opinions? If the Professor is merely interested in making money and doesn't genuinely care about the message he sends, this would be more understandable, as there are countless such channels on UA-cam. However, he claims to be a champion of democracy and a believer in these ideals. Everything you have said suggests otherwise and discredits both the channel and the Professor. Why should we listen to you if you can't even put what you say into practice?

Climate change is a natural process that has been occurring ever since the earth formed about 4.5 billion years ago. Ever since life started evolving on this planet it has affected the climate in some way. Human activity and behavior on this planet has also affected the way the climate is changing.

By the laws of Physics and Chemistry, injecting billions of tons of carbon (not to mention Nitrogen and other pollutants) into a closed planetary system cannot have NO effect. The effect which out of control carbon pollution is having is to trap heat. Hence the changes occurring before our eyes at rates vastly more accelerated than we see the geological record.
