What makes Bricky pretty great from generic video essay channels is the bit from 9 minutes onwards. The raw hard hitting truth of Brickys internal thoughts.
I feel like the aspect of there is an entire industry dedicated to selling monthly subscriptions for any kind of cheat you could ever want isnt being accounted for here. Tufi case in point. Its been found out he was buying subscription based cheat program. Or if youre on console there is the Cronus Zen. EA doesnt care one bit about cheaters or even Apex. Once the game stops spittin out a certain amount of money, they gonna give Respawn the old Visceral treatment behind the tool shed or what they did to Bullfrog with Dungeon Keeper. Dungeon Keeper 1 is still one of my all time favorite games up there with the original FF7, Resident Evil 1, Ocarina of Time, Super Smash Brothers, and Metroid Prime.
See the best part for me is I'm 32 and I only just started playing shooters a few years ago, so I'm right now by far the best at them I've ever been, and I'm only improving. It's kinda fun :)
Oh how the turn tables. Once Bricky was that "one kid" in the CoD lobby kicking ass, taking names and screaming in a high pitched voice. And now he is the old man being screamed at. It is good to know that some things never change in this world.
Me, playing apex right now: Can’t wait to get my challenges done, clients been bugging out a bit but that’s alright! Bricky: Depression Me: God damnit somethings wrong
As an actual "old person", I feel your pain. But at the same time, I understand that a big part of why there's such a skill gap is the amount of free time these kids have to play these games and hone their skills. I mean, it makes perfect sense that people who spend hours on the game are far better than me who plays maybe 1 or 2 every other day. Once you accept this fact, it becomes a pill that's easier to swallow.
Apex just invites kids to nolife the fuck outta this game because u can show off ur stats. It’s basically normal to play 10hrs a day. The amount of times I’ve run into people who have 10 times the kills in one season than I have overall is insane.
@@Acsion42 He still has to set aside time to script, record and edit videos. Not to mention that even though he plays games while live streaming & recording he is incentivized against actually focusing on the game so he can be entertaining. He isn't just dropping into solo/duo queue for 4+ hours a day trying to improve like he could when he was younger.
@@tobiwalter8659 i recently hit "masters" rank in apex and i ran into a gibraltor main who has 130 THOUSAND kills on that one character alone. i myself only have 7000 lifetime kills which si every character put together. so i personally do feel this. the gibraltors teammates were also a valkyrie with 20k kills and a bloodhound with 80k. just the valkyrie alone had more kills than me and both my friends lifetime kills put together.
As a fellow "old man" at 31, I feel you. The trick is to not care. In all seriousness, I remember those early days of Call of Duty and Halo and having those reflexes that never seemed to fade. Now between work, family, and general life responsibilities, I maybe get 1 hour per night to game. I have accepted that my time as a "true gamer" is done, and a new generation has come. Also play lots of single-player. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
You not caring though and playing ranked with good players and then saying “who cares” while you play ranked because you do care? Stop making excuses anyone can balance and become greatness you just opted for the failure department.
I like how bricky is coming to terms with his age and skill gap. At 34 I realized I'm no longer for PvP when I got an ace on R6S and I almost had a stroke. The amount of stress those games make me feel isn't worth it. I much rather enjoy building some nice looking cities.
Bro I feel that shit now at 26... I know I'm still young, but God after university and work (and cigarettes and weed), my heart just ain't what it used to be in high school. R6S almost gave me and a buddy a stroke once when we had to clutch a 2v5 on site against a fucking Ying and Fuze constantly trying to demolish us. Or in Hunt Showdown, basically a cowboy Escape from Tarkov, where it's super quiet and then suddenly you get blasted with a shotgun from around the corner. Shit practically made me jump every time. I don't even care about being competitive anymore, I just don't want heart palpitations lmao.
Maybe it’s not the games themselves, maybe it’s how stressful adult can be, that anything remotely tense is to much for you to handle because you deal with the bs of life all day, so something you used to do to pass time and unwind, started becoming a stressor. I can guarantee you if you manage stress better In your life, you can manage to play rainbow six siege and not be on the verge of having a stroke.
@@stankobarabata2406 i was always into counter strike and ranked Halo, nowadays i feel the same exact way. im just not seeking out that dopamine rush from tense skilled gaming. i started playing Ghost Recon wildlands, and in my opinion its the perfect mix of skill / Fun wonkiness , i never rage in that game, you can take it serious or just play bumper cars and run around the map guns blazing with randoms. at 27 years old, i just started feeling this way as of the last year or so.
@@pedrojustice My buddy got his young cousin to do it. Kid's a monster, I think he's better than anyone I've seen when I was young. Absolutely shreds entire teams by himself sometimes. I can barely get a kill or two these days, especially in these newer shooters that require all this twitch spasmy movement. He's about to graduate too, so he'll enjoy a few more years of it at least. Man. The moment when getting on a match of Rainbow Six or Hunt Showdown is more about worrying about your blood pressure than your K/D is the exact moment you know you truly have reached that age.
This hits hard. I have friends that love pvp shooters like Overwatch, and I'm just going through the motions with the matches because I feel like I let them down as a tank/ support. I don't care *nearly* enough to aim train for 45 minutes a day, or look for insane comp synergy, I just want to have fun and the hyper competitive games just don't do it for me any more. I just wished I could convince them to play other games like L4D2, Vermintide, Deep Rock, or hell, anything at this point. It's exhausting.
I feel the same I just can't seem to get any good at modern shooters and even if I wanted to I definitely don't have the time anymore. At this point, I just play Roblox cuz it's simple fun and reminds me of my childhood.
I feel you so hard my friend... Its like youre not allowed to have fun anymore. Everything just has to be competetive once you engage in Multiplayer... Also @Bricky: if you enjoy Endless Space, have you ever tried Stellaris? I would highly recomment that game^^
I know EXACTLY how this feels. My buddies are super into Valorant and League and all these competitive games, and I join them when I can but I just don't have the will to A) Play the same game over and over, or B) Aim-train for even an hour a day. I like League and wanna get good at it but other than that it's tough trying to bring up the idea of trying out more casual action games like Deep Rock. Best of luck to you, chief
I feel the same way, and I’ve actually cut out multiplayer shooters as a whole. Convinced my fiancé to get into games, we played all the Life Is Strange games, currently on a play through of The Wolf Among Us, and gonna start It Takes Two. It’s the most fun I’ve had with games ever. Shooters prioritize competition for enjoyment
See, the true Apex depression is realizing that the skill issue he's talking about isn't just "x number of hours to refine fundamentals" but is specifically about practiced techs that nobody would ever know about if dedicated UA-camrs didn't make their livelihood on finding said techs. Basically when it comes down to it, it's about doing external research to find what skills are cutting edge, and practicing those, on top of simply playing the game and refining the basics.
Totally agree. No hate on people who do it, I'm just not into that kind of play. Also, someone said "If you play Apex as your only game, you will go crazy" which could be due to this gameplay loop
I definitely disagree, the movement tech you are talking about rarely ever gives an advantage. You have to be extremely skilled for it to be a major advantage. Aim is the core of the game and if you have good aim and standard movement (so no wall jumping but good use of slides and stuff like that) you will no doubt destroy people with worse aim but better movement. You are likely talking about tap strafing, supergliding, wall jumps and stuff like that. It rarely comes in useful (except for maybe tap strafing if you properly incorporate it). Aim is still by far the most important part. Take a look at ShivFPS, doesnt use crazy wallbounces or superglides but still dominates due to good use of basic movement and good aim.
@@ryne1625 yeah, I know when I jump into a new game and really dig into it for a few weeks, I'll just naturally start getting into a groove of consuming media surrounding the game as a topic. Sometimes that turns into finding new techs, sometimes its people goofing around. (Sometimes it's both, like Mr. Warframe Guy)
@@thijsf395 I second this man, these techs will help you in specific situations but the literal GOAT of apex pros hardly ever uses obscure mechanics (Hal). The techs give you an advantage, but if you think "it's about doing external research" that's just ignorant (maybe copium go figure)
Honestly its the mindset to a degree. Its also a show on how you cant play many games and be good at them all anymore. Especially shooter games, as they are just piling on more and more mechanics and things you have to keep constantly practicing at to get better and keep up with other people. If you dont got the time, or dont use the time all on one game, your skill fade will come in hard and fast, before you even know it, and you will be left thinking "am i just too old to play?", forgetting that a lot of those old top scorer from MW2 were like 20-30 year olds, that just dedicated themselves to that one game, rather than spend time playing a dozen different ones. Honestly, its the tragedy of choice and options, being able to buy any game you want, being able to spend your time as you want, and play what ever game you feel like causes you to inevitably fall behind the hardcore pack, and never be able to catch them. That is the state of video games today. The slow decay due to over indulgence and excessive play on too many things, leaving you to think "what game next?" and never truly master anything. For when was the last time you had a game that grasped you not just for a non-stop week, not just for a month, not for one year, but years upon years, one that made you spend hours upon hours testing mechanics and checking for what new things you can do, how can you manipulate the system you are given to allow you to dunk on the other team. How many games have you spent 2000, 3000, 5000 hours on, or even feel like you might? That is truly the peak, of video game depression, but also the solution to moving on from it. Play what you want, when you want, and simply be happy if you meet even minor goals. Always keep moving forward on the video gaming grind. Also 13:54 mate, we all fucking feel and agree with that. No one in their right mind would disagree. Also also, Elden Ring. Two days. Are you there?
4:25 YES Edit: 14:42 This is the realest Bricky could ever get. I feel this way too and nowadays it's a feeling you have to get past, realizing you're not the hotshot after all. This is why I love this man
It's not very rewarding to be a CoD hotshot as an adult if the alternative is winding down after work or completing a storybased game. "I beat dark souls 2" versus "i won apex 9 times". Okay, fun? You can keep doing that endlessly.
Even though that I'm 18, which is young, the second half the vid resonated with me! Satisfaction in games these days doesn't come from being good anymore, it's about being the best. I came here for some apex content, and left with a deep realization on how I used to truly enjoy playing games.
Bricky: talking about how he might be getting old at 26. Me at 50 and receiving a constant stream of junk mail aimed at seniors: Laughing my ass off at how he thinks 26 is "old"
He's concept of "old" is not really a physical one, but more like a "inner" or "ideological" one. He's not actually old, but he is old for the environment (gaming world) he is a part of. It's not about getting old, it's about being left behind by a world that moves too fast and that you can't catch up with. In bricky's case it's being ass at fps games when he used to be a hot shot. Because kids nowadays are 10 times better than him, as they are growing up with the hot trends of this age (fortnite) instead of the titles he grew up with (cod). I'm 24, and to some degree I feel the same way xD
@@Mars34582 it’s so true tho. Kids these days also have all day to play, when you grow up you have work and other things to worry about not much time to get good anymore ya know.
When I feel this I go back to titanfall, and then I remember that a good game can make a good player feel nice. But a masterpiece can make everyone feel like a pro
@@Cvspxr bruh, I feel like shit in warzone, 100 games and not a single win, 4 kills the most I've ever got, unable to keep up with the fast movements of my enemy, unable to grasp my surroundings, and generally other shitty things. Which doesn't make sense because in apex an objectively more competitive game I do very well
@@davidsplooge14 I was always terrible in COD and any battle royal game but tbh i never cared if game was still fun. I always played for fun and constant competition is not fun for me. I guess it prepared me for being old.
And on this day, Bricky woke up and said to himself, "I choose VIOLENCE!". And a a horde of people approaching their 30's and beyond (I'm 34, you bastard) cried in their lobbies.
I'm nearly 30, play Apex almost every day after work and am still in Master-Predator level ranking/lobbies and yet I feel it. It sucks ass fighting people you know you can do nothing about, that not only are they better than you but they also have the blessing of being youthful and having infinite time to get better and practice. Adopting a very static and defensive/methodical playstyle really does shut a lot of these people. Regardless, one day these kids will be in a similar situation with whatever shooter games exist in the future because life catches up with everyone.
Bro I do the exact same thing, play defensively. I used to be the shit back in the day, with call of duty modern warfare 2 and black ops, CSGO... But now I can't even play Valorant if I don't play defensively. Shit hurts man, but what can a man do but bow to the cruelty of time. Also I'm 29.
though the training area is only good for basics; it's still something to look into from time to time when new updates and new things happen; so you can see what changed if you don't ever look at the patch notes. no; not everyone has time to bother with the firing range; but is an option.
i agree wholly, for every game, but if you ever thought arma wasn't for you you just didn't find the right game mode. played the vietnam mode in arma 3 and had a whole ass call of duty cutscene moment with my friends. 2 stacked up hueys about to land, one gets shot to shit and everyone in it dies, the one i'm in takes heavy damage too, with the pilot barely alive enough to land and my friend downed, i had to jump in the side gun and kill as much as i could to just get enough breathing room to get out and help my friend, and after all was said and done, of a total of like 20 or 30 dudes, it was just me and him left to clear the jungle. shit was unscripted and wild as hell and it's why arma will remain in some of my fondest gaming memories
I'm 21 almost 22, but I lowkey felt this at 20, even more so now, when I realized that I can't put in the time to get better at games like Apex cause I have more priorities and not enough free time. Glad that you expressed these feelings, and keep up the work Bricky!
Pretty much how I've felt since I started University 3 years ago. Now I just play platformers when I have the time and aren't already doing something else with people.
Having 2-3 hours after work a day isn't well invested in a game with no end. You won another apex match, so what? Oh, you beat souls 2? Nice, you can move on.
It's very interesting hearing this because I'm around your age yet I'm able to put in more time into pvp games. When I play apex I usually play to get better. So I don't think its an age thing. It's more like a mindset
The answer to all of those questions is yes, bud. Trust me, at 25 I'm right there with ya. I've practically sworn off multiplayer titles because it spikes my blood pressure so much.
I’m 24 and same. I just don’t get enjoyment from multiplayer games anymore. Just not fun. My fiancée and I are playing through The Wolf Among Us and it’s some of the most fun I’ve had playing games
I felt this video haaaaard Bricky....I was laughing on the outside and crying on the inside because I'm in the exact same spot as you. I'm 27 years old and liked to play those games. Know there are those little tryhard milkbeards that always need to go super hard on everything. There is no etiquette anymore only carnage. I find myself now playing games like Monster Hunter World or other coop based multiplayer. It is just more fun.
Sportsmanship is a forgotten concept it seems. So used to dropping, and while early looting teammate runs off with the first guns they find to the nearest gunfire and think they will rambo but get downed instantly, plug their mic in so they can call us trash for not following him like he sees squadmates as NPC loyal followers without any pings or communication at all. Im legit suprised when there are randoms who coordinate with the team and engage with every encounter with a tactical mindset instead of just push, or push harder.
Same 27 here can't keep up on FPS games anymore kept getting 1 tapped in Valorant so I just play League now good thing I am still a solid plat player even when I am busy working for 9 hours for 6 days.
10:06 My solution came simple - I don’t play PvP much anymore :) Kinda got tired of constant competition, raging at each other, slurs and stuff, so I stick to a way friendlier and positive PvE games community
I feel you bricky on the feeling old part. My younger siblings and cousins who arent even 14 yet deadass only lose to me due my experience dude like hooooly shit the raw skill they have with movement on these games is insane, but i will say this they do appreciate the old games too and the skill it takes to stomp people with out the movement advantage and dont even get me started on fortnite my little brother is a goddamn master architect and im deadass just getting by on aim and actually building a fort or straight up bum rushing with shotguns like dude i feel you on that and im only 24 and i swear it feels like im goddamn 40
Fuck, this hit me hard. I am 25 and can't do what I used to be able to do in COD. Damn you Bricky for bringing this to light for me! And damn you for showing me how awesome women in power armor are, my wallet will never recover!
Funnily enough this kinda sums up why I don't give a shit about how good I'm in a game. Like I'll play ranked LoL but just could not care less if I'm in silver or plat at any given season, will just play as long as it's fun and will more often than not take so long breaks that my rank resets and I have to climb from bronze.
Turned 30 a couple of months ago and I feel this. I used to tear stuff up in Black Ops 2, go on massive tears in Battlefield 1 and I just don't know what happened, it feels like once I entered my later 20s I started slowing down and it really bums me out.
Man, I wish I could just nonstop play single player games but I grew up with cod and no matter how bad the yearly title is something in my brain keeps me chained to the series. I really hate it but I’ve kind of just given up and started to embrace my multiplayer addiction.
I feel as if my *personal* apex depression is how the game is turning into tyranny, and EA has full control and nobody from original respawn is left to man the buttons and levers, and how everything is more buggy and sad than it'd ever been. I want to be done but it seems to always *grasp* me the right way to always pme back again.
Personally, I don't think there is an internal conflict. The original developers probably took advantage of the fact that Apex is very successful and use it as leverage to get a better salary and role with another company. It is actually very common for video game developers to switch companies while their current game is doing very well. Gamers may hate Apex as much as they want and many of their criticisms are valid, but it cannot be argued that Apex is a tremendously successful financially and industrially. With Apex on their resume, developers can earn higher roles, more respect, more freedom, and a pay raise. In the end it often happens that people change jobs, they probably may have received a better offer elsewhere as well. The pandemic has opened doors to many places for people with the option of remote work, which can boost staffing.
I personally wouldn't be surprised if the original devs of TF 2 leave Respawn to make something else. Especially now, when EA announce they are doing something, but isn't TF 3
@@matteorusso4001 Correct, which is why at the end of my post I said that the game keeps on dragging me in because it has things other shooters (and BR's) don't have. I'm just sad that either way, the old devs have quit for whatever reason and now it might not resemble anything made by... "people" soon enough. just a bunch of code monkies and money hungry higher ups.
Bricky, please never change. All of my favorite videos on UA-cam are on this channel, and whenever I have a bad day I always come back to watch your masterpieces. Thank you man
Honestly, another big change that I feel in mainstream shooters is the change from hitscan weaponry to all guns having bullet travel time. I knew this issue back when MW2 was in its full swing, trying to play Battlefield was so much more difficult. Back when you just clicked on someone, no matter how far away they were, and they instantly took the damage... Good times.
Don't feel sad, Bricky. I've played FPS games since forever, even reaching 2k hours of R6, yet I was unable of getting past Gold I Rank. Some people have fingers, others don't and have to Deep Rock Galactic. That's life, I guess. ROCK AND STONE!
My dude, the second half of this video feels like it spoke to my soul. Playing COD and switching between controller and keyboard because I've convinced myself there is no way I am now this bad has been tough to cope with.
At 36 I've never related to a video more. I really do feel my twitch reactions have slowed down from my golden years playing CoD. As much as I love games like Apex, Warzone and Tarkov, I feel I just can't perform as consistently as I used to. I find myself playing slower more relaxing single player games or coop games with my friends, it's like I'm too old to play anything competitive now!
This is the best content on youtube in so long. I can’t believe that this encapsulated everything that I hate about how i am currently playing every game i play. It’s insane that you can’t just be adequate anymore you have to be better than everyone you come across
This Video send me right into my "I'm 34 now" depression. I cant touch modern FPS Games anymore and stick with my good old strategy games. I play Dune 2000 and think of my glory days on LAN-parties 🤣.
I feel you bricky, I'm a 17 year old with dyspraxia which effects my motor skills which makes my reaction times a lot slower, I also have the same experience with games like apex. I personally feel that gaming has gotten way too competitive now, if you don't have nanosecond reaction times you lose. It makes me constantly feel like I'm not cut out for it.
Reaction time isn't everything you know. I get away alot in fps games with just good positioning and average aim. You just need to play to your strength and you'll be fine
Hey man, I’m coming on 27 and also have dyspraxia. Shooters made me realise that I can’t push myself too hard or compare myself to other players because you always have to perform higher just to be on par with everyone else. This definitely affected me when I got further into my 20s because coping with real life, work, living and being by yourself, which anyone with dyspraxia can tell you doesn’t just affect motor function alone - it touches everything you do - and I just don’t have the will or patience to play games competitively anymore. I just want to sit down and relax. I used play Overwatch competitively until I hit Masters, and in the end I became bitter and stressed because I was trying too hard. Now I haven’t played that game since 2017. Don’t let yourself get to that point. Make sure to keep your health and well being in check if you find a game you enjoy.
You just have to remember, nobody is always good and nobody started out as good. When you play something for a while, you will get better at it but worse at other things. If you wanna be good at Apex just keep playing it.
I felt this video, so hard. I remember when I wanted to play and be good at siege, I was so frustrated that I couldn't get past bronze I was so frustrated that I couldn't do things that I felt like I should be able to do in my sleep, everybody kept telling me "ohh just play more t-hunt" or "ohh, just make better decisions" but I was doing those and I still couldn't get anywhere, I was frustrated that even though I just wanted gold, I didn't even care to get to plat of all places, I just wanted gold and couldn't even climb past bronze for any reasonable amount of time frustrated me, why do I play this game hours in a day just not to get anywhere?
Lmao you remind me of myself I remember playing siege trying to get out of copper to. I took their advice on getting better playing t-hunt predicting enemy and teammate behaviour. Then going into ranked just getting bodied in silver. It took me 1000 hours of casual play just to start playing ranked and finally after 1k hours I was stuck in copper. It took multiple seasons each one I was slightly better than the last resulting in 2k hours of playtime just to scratch plat 3. In the end was it worth it hell nah 2k hours on a game i now despise made by devs that don’t even play their own game.
@@helpmombeatsme9260 lol, its not even just that, i have a friend that played much longer then me but was stuck in silver until just recently, he must of had a huge epiphany because he was the guy we knew that if we played with him he would drop us a rank and now he can school us and woops ass out of nowhere, i barely play the game now but been thinking about it after azami came out and shit, I'm definitely not gonna be nearly as tryhard as i was. let me tell you though, i swear siege bronze is like gold in other shooters because most of the strategy in other shooters is movement and maybe "the high ground" as my man obi wan would say. that same friend and i got to like plat in splitgate and we still felt like we weren't using our portals enough, if scavengers was ever a thing even for a little bit, i wooped ass with some random strangers, possibly the best randos i've had in any game which made me discover that i play better not completely focused on the game or talking about things outside the game(i still need to find them, they was cool) its like why was all that aim training good for other games but not siege ;(
bricky your video has touched me to my core, I, a 26 year old marine veteran, have also felt the "apex depression" getting clapped by kids my age has left a bruise on my ego. This video was a fun watch but i hear stardew valley calling my name.
As a 25 year old cod baby I literally had this same thought when I saw that the vanguard league came out and I just thought "I'll try it out, I still top the leader boards." Worst decision, I still haven't recovered from the emotional turmoil of thinking of my life choices
Bricky I feel this so god damned hard. I stopped playing twitch reaction shooters once I lost my teams, and tried going back one day to get "okay boomer"-ed by these whippersnappers who can click on heads or micromanage building better than I can. I have been binging your video essays on both my days off from.the second I wake up to the second I went back to sleep, and I have FELT this the most
I'm the same age Bricky and I also play Apex so I know the feeling. Sometimes I just feel that while my mind can keep up with the enemy, my hand just won't move as fast as it should. There's a lag between my decisions and my movements and it just feels shitty. I know that myself from few years back would destroy my current self at any skill based game. We old Brickster, gotta move on to those green pastures of turn based games :/
Fun fact: the skill issue might be because you start losing reaction time after you turn 21. In most cases it isn’t noticeable but in the fast paced environment of FPS shooters it can be a real divide. That’s why so many top-level esports competitors back out of the public eye in their early twenties
As a 33 y/o, this hits really close to home. The amount of times I skipped seasons. Hell, the amount of uninstalls of this game is just baffling how I manage to come back to it like I'm in a toxic relationship. Do I want the new skin for my main? ugh, yeeeeaaaa just take my money and put it in the bag...
I grew up as a kid my first memories being heroes clones and terrorising early cods as a teen and even making some small cash on league tourneys, now as an old man at the ripe age of 24 I'm back to heroes clones because I cant react to single frames
I'm only 20 and I already feel like this. Games these days feel more bloated with small mechanics that all need to be mastered and you can't just sit down and relax while playing, you need to understand every tiny detail if you want to be even a little competitive.
I'm just 20 years old but, as someone who is really into gaming and have been playing Apex since season 4, this video hits close to home. It's mostly about that feeling that, no matter how hard you try, even if you're doing your best, you're constantly going to get stomped by players who don't even seem to be human by how well they play. Without a dedicated group of friends, the game feels more a stressful and overwhelming chore than an actually fun experience. It sucks even more because the gameplay itself IS fun, but most of the time you end up feeling a step behind compared to other players. Hell, I admit it might have affected my self esteem a little. Perhaps it's time I come to terms with the fact that the game has gotten to a point where I can't keep up with it.
Thank you Bricky, the moment you went on the rant about being bad, my 30 year old self finally felt validated. I thought I was alone in having this feeling that the moment i shoot someone they turn around and just melt me and that I was just missing something. Plus as much as I love Destiny, I think you opened my eyes to the fact it may have ruined me too lmao
The solution is simple bricky, you've been made weak by Destiny 2, your twitch reactions have been mollified, your movement has suffered from the floatiness. There is a simple solution. Doom Eternal, Nightmare/Ultra-Nightmare difficulty, both DLC's included. Reforge yourself in the crucible, purge the weakness from you in hellfire. Don't accept your boomer limitations, you can be better. What would Nip-Nip do?
I think pvp gaming culture has this obsession with being good. A little bit ago I went to play some valorant and enjoyed my time, but I was bad at it. What made me stop playing wasn’t the gameplay, it was the people. Almost every game, at least 1 person would begin insulting me about being bad. I would respond with “yeah, but I’m having fun.” And they would keep insulting me, saying something like “if you don’t want to get better, you don’t deserve to play.” I think it’s incredibly toxic in every respect, and that’s why I play dark souls and 4x games.
Stormgate opened its Open Beta today. Played some co-op, had dumb fun, but knew I sucked. I tried out 1 1v1 game. Didn’t get absolutely destroyed, but just regular destroyed. And…instead of just taking it on the chin and moving on, saying I’ll get better, I got depressed. Because I saw just how behind I was and that I’ll never hit that point. And if that whole journey to get better is just miserable and unfun, then why bother? I was so excited for the game as well. My mind went back to the ending monologue. And it hit hard. Especially as a kid who grew up as a perfectionist with good grades, being just good isn’t enough, even though it should be. I’m 24, and I find more joy in my day to day office job than playing video games. This truly is the Apex Depression.
I’ve said it before on stream, but I really feel like you could enjoy Hunt: Showdown! It rewards strategy and patience more than other games of the shooter genre, has a fun gameplay loop with satisfying audio and gunplay, and it’s not nearly as hardcore as Tarkov but still captures that risk vs. reward that Tarkov has capitalized upon.
I've been meaning to check it out but I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to hit shit, and I really don't need that in my life right now. It does seem hard af, or at least people make it out to be.
@@WTFAnyNameWorks Honestly, there's a lot of equipment variety and playstyles that can work even if you are lacking in aiming. Traps to slow opponenents down, setting up ambushes to catch people unaware, dual wielding pistols to allow for you to really dominate in close quarters. You can even just go in with a dirt cheap axe and run people down inside buildings. However, it's definitely not as casual as something like CoD, but I'd equate the skill level requirement to that of any other Battle Royale.
Imma be honest, I'm the same way. I'm 16, used to be an aim god in Apex, then I started playing Destiny 2 recently and I think it has progressed my gamer age by ten years.
I'm 26 too and yeah... I'm right there with ya. Just got some of my other milleni-boomer friends together to play Minecraft again. We used to play League, StarCraft, Halo, Titanfall, Heroes of the Storm, PUBG.... And now, I just started renovations on the third floor of my castle. Slower and more relaxed for our slower and more tired brains.
There was a time when I could reach diamond 1 effortlessly, now my wrist sometimes hurts if I press W too hard. The way I see it, its a little bit of both, mindset and age, at some point I got frustrated at PvP because I was not the absolute pinnacle of gaming I was before, things outside of gaming took priority and had to take long breaks and instead of spending hours upon hours analyzing pro streams and my own gameplay when I came back, I decided to take a break and went to have fun in Warframe, Destiny, FFXIV, Terraria, Minecraft, PvE, I didn't wanted to compare myself to my opponent anymore, I wanted to have fun. Obviously when I returned to PvP I got my ass handed to me by kids who instead went and spent that same time improving, I could've done the same, maybe I wouldn't have gotten results as good as theirs but I would've improve, but I didn't, and I'm ok with that. Today I honestly rather have fun, and that comes at the price of not being the best, and that is ok.

Bricky plays games for a living, he can't make that excuse
Apex just invites kids to nolife the fuck outta this game because u can show off ur stats. It’s basically normal to play 10hrs a day. The amount of times I’ve run into people who have 10 times the kills in one season than I have overall is insane.

Then just convince them also I see Vermentide I like

Exactly, aint nobody got time for that!
@@thijsf395 I second this man, these techs will help you in specific situations but the literal GOAT of apex pros hardly ever uses obscure mechanics (Hal). The techs give you an advantage, but if you think "it's about doing external research" that's just ignorant (maybe copium go figure)

destiny 2 never had "competitive esports" so its the one fps that creates a ravine under your feet and sucks you into being trash at other fps's

Don't feel sad, Bricky. I've played FPS games since forever, even reaching 2k hours of R6, yet I was unable of getting past Gold I Rank. Some people have fingers, others don't and have to Deep Rock Galactic. That's life, I guess.
ROCK AND STONE!
ROCK AND STONE!
ROCK AND STONE IN THE HEART!
Rock and stone!
DID I HEAR A ROCK AND STONE!?
So happy to see so many miners down here. Love the hell out of Deep Rock, great break from hardcore fps games.
10:30 hits so hard cuz im literally practicing my tap strafes, wall jumps and pathfinder grapple mechanics while listening to bricky complain about me
I feel ya man, this is the main reason I play tf2, not because I’m good, but because having fun takes priority over actual skill.
Awkward sniper/gunspy fight into double killbind
"I used to get Tactical Nukes all the time!"
"Okay, Grandpa. Let's get you back to bed."
I love this video because it begins as a composed video essay about the state of Apex and then suddenly flips into a midlife gaming crisis
My dude, the second half of this video feels like it spoke to my soul. Playing COD and switching between controller and keyboard because I've convinced myself there is no way I am now this bad has been tough to cope with.
I have never felt a UA-camr rant more. I love you bricky, keep doing what you’re doing
I've been finding myself repeating the 9:00 minute mark multiple times throughout the day. And I might find myself here again in the future.
Same
Gotta love rewatching this video simply for the fact that brick has a aging break down
when you're 7 rp away from master but on next match your random teammate just lands in middle of 3 squad
Bricky, I feel you. I'm 27, and trying to play all these esport style competitive shooters gets harder and harder with each game
I feel you...
@@jcp1966 well one of the biggest problems with gaming these days is the SBMM is horrible
You just have to remember, nobody is always good and nobody started out as good. When you play something for a while, you will get better at it but worse at other things. If you wanna be good at Apex just keep playing it.
That’s not what he’s saying lol. Edit oh I’m a dumbass just got to that part of that video
Just like you with the first trilogy eh Lucas?
@@koraegi I just got called out
@@koraegi bruh, you killed it 🤣🤣
all i want is titanfall 3 but apex seems to be enjoying dancing on its grave and making inappropriate faces at me.
Become monty main and pray
As a 25 year old cod baby I literally had this same thought when I saw that the vanguard league came out and I just thought "I'll try it out, I still top the leader boards."
Worst decision, I still haven't recovered from the emotional turmoil of thinking of my life choices
Bricky I love you, you inspired me to start a Night Lords army Keep up the great work
8:36 I JUST CAN'T! THE COMEDIC TIMING IS JUST TOO FREAKING GOOD!
I feel like you're venting what we, every 25-28 year old have to say when it comes to playing games.
Thanks.
Bricky I feel this so god damned hard. I stopped playing twitch reaction shooters once I lost my teams, and tried going back one day to get "okay boomer"-ed by these whippersnappers who can click on heads or micromanage building better than I can. I have been binging your video essays on both my days off from.the second I wake up to the second I went back to sleep, and I have FELT this the most
13:57 The fact you put ERZA in there makes me know that you are indeed a MAN OF CULTURE.
Jokes on you, I've always been into strategy games.
Just was about to back into apex, perfect timing and perfect vid
Somehow destiny got into this
Fun fact: the skill issue might be because you start losing reaction time after you turn 21. In most cases it isn’t noticeable but in the fast paced environment of FPS shooters it can be a real divide. That’s why so many top-level esports competitors back out of the public eye in their early twenties
Turn that mindset to a grind set
This video was secretly bricky revealing his true feelings about Destiny 2. He finally is a real destiny player.
As a Maori from New Zealand i'm so fucking stooooked to see some representation of my native culture in a suuuper popular game
I'm 23 and I lament to say that I also feel the onset of that apex depression. It's not here yet but the seeds are being sown
I grew up as a kid my first memories being heroes clones and terrorising early cods as a teen and even making some small cash on league tourneys, now as an old man at the ripe age of 24 I'm back to heroes clones because I cant react to single frames
The long walk is a really good read, definetly recomend it
"Women wearing heavy armor is a kink I'm proud to have"
A fellow man of culture, Bricky
Necron supremacy.
I'm still holding out for the legend who's ult is just a titan
Maybe the real Titanfall 3 is the Freinds we made along the way.
They hated Him... For he spoke the truth
I tried it, but the off-centre crosshairs made me literally dizzy.
I think it's a mindset, I'm 26 in 3 weeks and still feel like I can hold my own in shooters and stuff
Imma be honest, I'm the same way. I'm 16, used to be an aim god in Apex, then I started playing Destiny 2 recently and I think it has progressed my gamer age by ten years.
That’s not an age thing that’s just Destiny 2
@@paegr 😭
What I take away from this video is that I'm older than Bricky... fuck, I suddenly feel like I've accomplished nothing
