My Dad kept a journal/diary for many years - from about the mid 1960s until he passed away in 1998. One time he was questioned by the police as his pick up truck looked like one that had been involved in a hit and run accident many miles away - right down to a dent in the same area that would have been on the vehicle involved. So he went into our attic and grabbed a box of his diaries and took them all to the police station to "prove" where he was at the time of the accident. They never really suspected him as we lived in an area no where overly close to where the accident happened - but his box of journals showed that his current diary was not something created to get out of a crime. He was happy to have had evidence that showed he had nothing to do with the accident.
What an interesting twist on the theme! So glad that your dad had the proof and I love that he was so diligent in his journal keeping. Do you or anyone still have his box of journals? 💕
As a historian, I can say that we are terrified of a real dark age due to so much being digital. Social history depends on finding wonders like planners and bullet journals that illustrate what life was life here and now when people look back from decades to centuries in the future. A good example is Samuel Pepys who wrote almost daily in journal format for about 10 years during the middle part of the 17th c" in London, England. Thank you for sharing this - it is very important!
Wow, that is so interesting! With so many people documenting their lives everyday, you'd never think that it could be lost, but it would be so easily lost! I read an apocalyptic YA novel a couple of years ago where that happened, but I didn't think it would be possible in real life! 😬
I too started in scrapbooking. I couldn’t have said your first couple minutes better myself! I keep all the planners/journaling I do. I hope my kids get a laugh when they are older or see that I wasn’t in a good mood every day. When my Grandfather passed a few years ago I found all the telegrams he sent my Grandmother while he was in the service. Those items are so priceless. Can’t wait to see your next video. :) HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!
Thanks for these ideas. I came across my old mini filo-fax recently. It was odd seeing all the things that were important to me so many years ago, that wouldn't be necessary or relevant in my life now.
My grandparents found an old diary of my Nan’s dad’s voyage to Australia and the farm diary! It led to them discovering where she was born and where her family lived. Being English her parents just didn’t talk a lot about this kind of thing! The lady who had the diary was 90 when they first met her!! Just in the Knick of time!
Hi, this is very interesting, do you keep journals aswell or just planners? I keep both, do you think there is a point in keeping both once they are full?
I'm going to forward this to my daughter. Hopefully she will see that writing things down about her baby girl eeall matters. Like me hearing her say Mum, Mum then growling... It's in my journal. Should be in hers xx thank you x
Yes!! Send it to her! Dear Julie’s daughter, please write things down, you will thank yourself later 😊 Not everything, but those thing you don’t want to forget. Hugs to you both 🥰
Most people do not include bad information in their planners. They are not diaries. No one goes into a store looking for “Today I was mugged” or “I just got raped” stickers. Especially those using HAPPY Planners. Planners are sugarcoated. Also, it is incredibky disturbing that people read the diaries and journals of others, dead or alive. I do not care what reason historians give. It is wrong to read the personal writings of someone who has not released them! Why you believe anyone will be interested in your planner is baffling. You must be full of yourself if you think anyone will care enough to look in your planners.
@@Taylaneeyou say that now. I’m 55 and when my mom died last year I felt so much comfort going through her stuff and discovering things like my parents marriage license, their very first mortgage bill, photos, greeting cards we gave them, and notes with her favorite songs written down just to name a few. So don’t count it out ❤
Excellent video! The history is in diaries and calendars

Oh wow! That's an amazing story Melissa, so glad they were able to get the diary! 💕
I’ve kept my old planners which has been useful in having to look back for dates (particularly for medical bills).
Oh yes! That’s a great way to keep track! 😊
What a fantastic idea and wonderful thoughts on keeping old planners. Many thanks!
So glad you liked it 🙂
My journals are pretty raw because I wrote as if no one will see them , I can see myself keeping planners and journals thats a lot,
I bet those journals are quite a treasure for you!! That’s amazing 😊

If my mom tried to pass down her planners to me I would be livid lmao
Well, I can see why it’s likely no one will want to read YOURS.
