I replace: Dme Crank position sensor Cam position sensor Fuel filter Still no start. Relays are good The fuel pump doesn’t prime with the key on, jumping the fuel pump relay turns it on, and I have no spark Ews has been bypassed m Crank but no start no fuel no spark
there would’ve been no spark even if the car worked when testing like that.😂 You need an air gap between the screwdriver and the engine. If you put it directly against it, the current will take the way of the least resistance and produce no spark either way.
I stopped 5 min in. You are Great at explaing stuff and I am still learning about cars, so I apriciate that you explain how and why for a lot of the things. Please keep it up with the explainations and teaching!! I got a E91 320D 2006 first bmw, and first time self teaching about cars.
Having the exact same issues. I've changed plugs, leads, today I've fitted a new crank sensor and no luck. Now wondering if I've got the same issue, so gonna have to try this next
Don't shotgun parts hoping it will fix the problem. Suspecting a relay? Use a power probe or dmm to test it. Think the fuel pump is dead? Hook up a pressure gauge and jump the relay. I'm sure you could have ran some tests on the CPS before just condemning it for no reason. And it's odd that the ecu shit the bed, that's usually the last thing to go.
I have the same problem no power to spark plug . replace everything I can except DME . Do i need reprogram to replace DME? Your video awesome . thank You
Thank for the content! Nice car! I am going through all the things with mine too! Congratulations on getting it running.. I know that's a good feeling!
I’m having similar problem on my 1997 e36 as well. I took it to a mechanic here in Bangkok, Thailand. The rebuilt the engine thinking that was the problem ($1400 USD). Replaced the crankshaft sensor , spark plugs. It worked for 3 days and I didn’t drive it for 3 days. It would not start after sitting for those days. It is now back at the mechanic. He doesn’t know what could be causing the problem. The car starts now but he letting it sit for a couple days to see if the problem happens again. So frustrating but I love my car. Your video was a great explanation but my situation could be worse.
Bruuuh! I can hear the excitement lol I’m seeking the same.. I’m trying to get mines started and I’ve borrowed a buddies ecu, cam and crank shaft sensor, and ran my own wire because my battery cable wire was carodid a bit and changed spark plugs and still crank but no start smh , tested my starter and it works
Hey man I see that you are really responsive to people in the comments and my car has been down for about 3 weeks to the same issue, if you could give me somewhere to reach you? Because I really need help and these people on Facebook do NOT help
I was thinking OBD1 Male to OBD2 16 Pin Female Connector Adapter Cable. if you want to deal with old European cars, then without obd2 scanner and without all obd1 connector adapter it is very difficult. i have made in china obd2 reader with all obd1 abtabters bmw/audi/mazda and so on.
Awesome video very informative and I loved the victory laughs, my question is Did you have to reprogram the DME you bought from eBay, or did you just plug and play, and also do I just match the green BOSH and white label # on the DME, I'm having the same issue and want to know before I buy one on eBay. Thank you and have a blessed day!!
I just got a 94 318i convertable in Omaha. I got it to McCook before it broke down. A very nice person stopped to help suggested I get starting fluid to see if it was a "fire or fuel" problem. It was quickly determined that it was a fuel problem. Point being, there are easier ways to start trouble shooting with out spending money on parts. My brother drove 5 hours from Denver to bring the fuel pump, we put it in, in butt assed cold weather in the middle of the night. It started right up and ran fine all the way back to denver. Best $500 I ever spent for a car.
Have a 94 320i convertable. It suddenly just stopped working after going fine for months and i suspect it is the fuel pump as well. I have bought one now so i hope i have the same issue as you. I suspected early that it was the fuel pump because i couldnt hear the fuel pump pumping, i really hope it is only the issue. Beautiful cars to drive.
Good Video.. but shy didn't you change the fuel pump..? You said you thought "it was cooked" .. I am curious, why didn't you change it before you changed the DME?
I’ve done everything you have new cam position sensor new crank position sensor new near me new spark plugs new starter alternator new battery I can’t get it to start. It was running six months ago.
This is the worst case scenario for an old bmw tbh. But with 270k miles, this to be expected. Before all this happened, it was daily and it was such a joy to drive. I would say if you can find a good one, they can be reliable.

This was actually very informative and entertaining at the same time my dude! Love the energy when you finally fix something haha
Appreciate it! This one was a head scratcher. Felt so good to get it running days later lol

Chris fix!?!?
Should’ve done the ChrisFix intro 😂

Are bmw altitude sensitive? cant see the difference between trying on top of the hill compare to the bottom of the hill
I can't wait for my M44 E36 to do the same thing. It only sits outside under trees, with flakey windshield cowl seals! Haha.
Hopefully this will help if you get water on the dme 😭
Loved this vid! I got so excited when it finally started haha
Thanks! Haha glad you enjoyed it

dm me on ig
Even if those weren’t the main issues, it’s an old car and it probably needed it anyways
That's the laugh of victory right there. Good work !
lol ty
Thanks for the video. It helped me a lot to discover I removed my engine and just forgot it on the stand yesterday. Thank you again
This was a great video for how to trouble shoot your car! I am so happy for you that you got it to start!
First step: buy chines ode2 reader with bmw 36 obd gap piece
Saves time and money.
this is an obd1 car 😭

no way an E36 having problems?
it happens
Nice video man, so satisfying when you the engine started again! I can hear the excitement in your voice
appreciate it!
The first thing I would check with no fuel and no spark is there a security system on it aftermarket first
good idea - aftermarket alarms are very troublesome sometimes

Did you ever get an answer ?
DME = Digital motor electronics

Great video! I little question bro, did you have to reprogram your used DME that you bought?
you had no problems with the immobilizer when you changed the ECU
I’ve done everything you have new cam position sensor new crank position sensor new near me new spark plugs new starter alternator new battery I can’t get it to start. It was running six months ago.
Hi my one doesn't want to turn off the engine so i think its an ignition problem coz the key doesn't want to turn back
Was DME visibly fried when you inspected it?
How reliable has this car been for you, love these older bmws.

Interesting so the dome just gave out? Old age?

Just got one of these for 500 bucks! Awesome to see you got one too, having the same issue after I just test drove it the day before
i think you've literally solved my issue
Why did you not use a diagnostic tool?
E46 can't start or cranking
Was the fuel ok after all ?
