Thank you so much! I loved this reaction. I need a Ned stuffed animal, he's so cute. To me the end of the video is when Tyler is going through depression and his creativity, Ned and Josh, who hands him the cup, are there to help him until he's ready. Since the pool is empty I think that part happens before the video starts. Just my take on it since I deal with depression too. The rebel red is from the Blurryface album. Gotta react to more of it soon! I'm so glad you're enjoying Twenty One Pilots!
I might need to go on patreon just to get Ernest to react to the Phunintentional fan video for this song. It's an indie-style masterpiece. ua-cam.com/video/HaEyIhTJ1CQ/v-deo.html
what he means by "had you in my coat pocket where i kept my rebel red" is in the previous album, blurry face, tyler always had a red beanie, which symbolizes blurryface(aka Nico) blurryface is a demon that is all of tylers fears and insecurities. So tyler is realizing that blurryface doesn't control him.
Yeah - and "wrapped around my head" is just like what NF said in the search, it means the same thing pretty much from my understanding. "See we've all got somethin' that we've trapped inside That we try to suffocate you know hoping it dies Try to hold it under water But it always survives Then it comes up out of nowhere like an evil surprise Then it hovers over you to tell you millions of lies You don't relate to that, must not be as crazy I am"
It all boiled down to "shadow work" meaning working on our dark selfish tendencies. Give, listen and constructively encourage my friends. Less is light ; ) be blessed. Hollowed be thy name. Favor isssss empty. Gain favor by hungering and thirsting for righteousness, come to the spirit FAST! Love is merciful, let us learn to fall away from hate and run towards love. We are what we eat, frankly eat life not death. One love aka do to another as you would have them do to you. Only if you want to grown into your soul...
I heard about that...I heard the girl had made that for herself and Tyler kinda appropriated from her cause he liked it so much...on the flip side he had he crew LOAD her up with HUNDREDS of dollars in swag🤣🤣😊
That end card completely covered Ned's reaction to the cup when Tyler offered it to him. Ned sniffed it and recoiled, shaking his head. And I love your breakdowns; they are awesome. There is some speculation that Ned is representative of the fans themselves; the chlorine is Tyler's creativity and the music he creates. It wasn't until the pool was absolutely full and Tyler had given everything he had that Ned decided to jump in. That is why Tyler looks so exhausted at the end; he had emptied himself. I read somewhere that the cup he was holding (but never actually drank out of) was his doubts and insecurities. Every time he lifted it to his lips, Josh looked over at him to see that he wasn't actually drinking from it. Not sure if you want to stay on the TØP train or not, but if you want to hear some powerful lyrics, check out Leave the City (a live version if you can). It is such a good song, and absolutely moving when you hear all the fans singing it with him at a show. I cried.
This is the theory I've connected with the most! The chlorine being the painfully cleansing process of writing songs, the pool being a song, and Ned being the fans who are always waiting for something new so they can dive wholeheartedly in and start to change.
Whaat! "He emptied himself" crazy how visual this is. I never really thought past that filling the pool was probably a daydream. But if we get through the whole pool filling, Ned diving in and growing from it, then your worn out and got nothing else.
“Rebel Red” represents Twenty One Pilots previous album Blurryface where Tyler would wear red beanie and there would be a lot red in in their music videos. Blurryface symbolized all Tyler’s demons and in one of the songs on that album he even said don’t let me become or get taken over by this blurryface and he needs his fans help to take him out. Now (Nico) in the Trench alum aka blurryface represents the demons, and Tyler realized they don’t control him. (Nico) is in the jumpsuit, nico and the niners and levitate music videos which are like a trilogy. But heavydirtysoul is where the whole story really starts which is so cool because that’s the last video that was released from blurryface and the first video from the album Trench starts in the same spot. I hope it makes sense. You’ll understand the whole story and all the metaphors once you see and hear more of Twenty One Pilots music!! Keep going on the journey I’m always so exited to see a Twenty One Pilots reaction.
I love how you have caught on to the layers in their music, from video to music to lyrics... I guess though that is to be expected, it is great to listen to your breakdowns and that you actually get what it going on and when you are missing things.
Theory: What if Ned represents Tyler’s mental health because any mental health issue is a chemical imbalance in your brain. And what is chlorine? A chemical. What if this video is Tyler trying to be happy again? This could be why Ned is mostly white because white signifies purity but his mental health issue is still there hence Ned’s black eyes. Tyler feels like he’s finally getting there with help from Josh/ he’s relying on him which is why Josh does most of the work because that’s how Tyler sees him. When there is enough chemicals in the pool (Tyler’s brain) Ned jumps in which could signify his mental health being positive as both Tyler and Ned seems happy and relaxed. In the water Ned grows horns which means that the chemicals being balanced in Tyler’s brain causes Ned to become more powerful as Tyler has become happier. When the pool empties it could mean that Tyler’s mental health has become worse which is why it’s so dark in there and then Ned comes to show Tyler that there still hope for him. The black legs you see in front of the camera could be josh as Tyler could believe that josh has given up on him/ Tyler feels numb around everyone so they’re just black silhouettes. The cup given to Tyler could be medication for his mental health issue and he looks at Ned to see his opinion on taking medication but Ned doesn’t approve of it. Which is why the video ends with Tyler looking down at the cup. I believe that Ned thinks that Tyler can get through it by himself if he just believes enough.
It really is a shame you got under 30k subscribers, you are top when it comes to breaking bars. I really would support you on your patreon, but I'm barely supporting myself. Anyway, keep up the good work and much respect from Romania.
I love that Josh is always present in the video and interviews. Tyler is VERY outgoing, but he makes sure that Josh gets his time too. So many group's videos are just 3 and a half minutes of the singer and a few shots of the others.
So glad you got to this & got to know Ned! I'd really love to see you react to Neon Gravestones but be prepared, it's so deep, & really relevant to times today.
*I went to see Tøp June 28th and when they played this song and the images they had on the big screen like the effects and stuff.....but the when it got to the part where Tyler sang "hide you in my coat pocket" Ned showed up on the screen and I have never screamed "NEEEEED" and I started crying like Ned is MINE! 😂*
I am 2018 new to top and have felt a strong sense of inadequacy when listening, these guys are deep on multiple different levels. I wanted to comment on Josh and his presence, he's doing work! He isn't phased or plagued by the same trials, he has peace and is focused. As a singer is to cadence, a drummer is to the rhythm; to keep the pace, even in a "rest" the drummer is still counting. In other words, he knows his purpose/job and keeps working enabling others to do their jobs as well.
The red carnation is the Ohio state flower. Notice how he also has it on his shirt in the video. The line "Had you in my coat pocket, where I kept my rebel red, I felt I was invinsible you wrapped around my head" he's talking about his red beanie (which makes an appearance on screen for stressed out during the shows live and was an accesory during his whole BF era) and how he felt invinsible while wearing it. I think it somehow became part of his identity back then.
Yeah maybe you’re thinking of 1 Corinthians 3:11 “For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.” or also Matthew 7 when Jesus said following His words is like building your house on a rock solid foundation. Got this notification right as I finally got home after a long hard day so this was very much needed and appreciated 💛
First of all, love the t-shirt! Secondly, so impressed with how quickly you pick up the meanings and images to Twenty One Pilots. They're deep and dark at times but you seem to 'get' them immediately. Great reaction!
Rebel Red talks about his blurry face persona. Blurry wears a red hat. "I felt I was invisible, you wrapped around my head" talks about how relying on blurry (his demons) might be more lucrative and easier than writing for his real self. "Different lives I lead" is about him and blurry working as separate people in the same body. Hes basically saying he doesn't need his demons to write his music, but it can help. While not succumbing to his demons, he can still use his darker side to create his art.
It's fun watching you discover the awesomeness that is Twenty One Pilots! I love this song and am dying for them to make a Ned Stuffy! Isn't he just the cutest thing ever!!!
These guys are the best! So glad you’re getting through many of their greats. Metaphorically, their songs certainly have multi-level interpretation. And being that Tyler had a Christian upbringing, is there doubt? One of their concerts a few years ago, EMØTIØNAL RØADSHØW, they combined two songs with audience participation, The Judge & Screen. “You’re the judge, oh no, set me free”... “We’re broken, we’re broken, we’re broken people” ... it ended with no music, on repeat. Talk about emotion and surrender. Some knew what was up, some didn’t, but we all felt the connection. We’re about to go see them again in Fort Worth on 11/8, can’t wait. Also, no concert has been as great as theirs, add “great entertainers” to the list. Thank you for doing your thoughtful & appreciative reactions. Next up: Jumpsuit
i'm from Brazil and even not been a great english speaker i can mostly understand what you're saying. I love your reactions and commentary of the lyrical content of the songs. Thank you so much! Love tøp and now loving this chanel!
You are a really intelligent dude. I've watched a lot of reaction videos of people watching twenty one pilots and even though you don't know their whole story or history you pick up their messages right away. it's really awesome to watch.
I found your channel when Godzilla came out and followed you through that album. Then took the NF train. And now on to 21 Pilots who I have loved for years! Love your breakdowns they make me appreciate artists I already love even more! Thassa BAR! 😍
My man, you literally have one of the best channel intro's I have ever seen it convinces people to subscribe but it's also not up in your face. Love your stuff bro also could you please do twenty one pilots Doubt
The red represents their last album, Blurryface, which focused mainly on insecurities and doubts and fears, and red was the color that was centered around the character (Blurryface) that was created within the album. That concept carried over into Trench, but the focus of the album changed from the insecurities and doubts and fears that they, and ultimately all of us at some point, face to being focused on that in between place and having to choose wether to take the easy road and stay where you are and not overcome your demons, or to escape and fight your way through to have a chance at truly living free and happy. The carnations part can be explained in the Jumpsuit/Levitate/Nico and the Niners music video trilogy, where flowers (more specifically yellow flowers) are symbolic. I’d recommend watching the trilogy it may help explain that line or at least provide some clarity. Love your videos!
dude loved your reaction to this song ..... please keep doing more twenty one pilots songs there is still a whole lot out there you will love .... just keep listening to the fam and they will let ya know.
Great reaction!! 🔥🔥 I’ve learned so much from your breakdown, you’re giving me a comprehension complex! Lol I’m envious of you’re amazing insight, you are the super hero of reactions, bro👈🏼 I pity your future bride😂😂 lol (referring to noticing purchases that weren’t discussed, etc) you miss nothing 👀
I love your videos because you really pay attention to every detail. Also, the way you explain the context of the songs is especially interesting to me. I'm a tøp fan for 6 years now but english is not my language, so any pun on american language/culture sometimes makes no sense to me (like the "lead" thing). Can't wait for the next videos of your journey discovering this band. 🙌🏻
I really love your perspective!! It makes me think about the songs in a new way. Part of me thinks you're a secret tøp fan because you interpret the songs spot on 😂 even more so than me & I've been a fan for almost 5 years
All the mention of the colours yellow (all the tape Tyler and josh wear, album cover etc...) and red “rebel red carnation” is all to do with DEMA and the Nine Bishops. It’s a story that twenty one pilots have been telling secretly for years. I’d definitely recommend checking it out because it’s insanely complex and thought out
I never loved a youtube channel more than a guy who post videos everyday about twenty one pilots, my whoooole life. KEEP DOING THIS AND ANALIZE SELF TITLED. (sorry 4 my english)
You should react to some of their live stuff. I'd recommend Fall Away Live ft. Dr. Blum....the older one that was filmed like 5 years ago. Love that you are continuing to react to Twenty One Pilots!
Tyler and Josh are from Ohio, 'rebel red carnation' could possibly be referring to the state flower of Ohio which is carnation. In terms of 'rebel red(...)wrapped around my head', during the blurryface era, tyler would wear a red beanie so we can assume that it's a reference to blurryface which is a whole other thing but to summarise, it's basically an entity representing all of tyler's insecurities etc. In regards to the hiatus and how he vocalises that through his songs and directs it at us (the fans), listen to 'Leave the City' but you may want to look over the whole story of dema which is told throughout the album Trench and through the website - dmaorg.info/found/15398642_14/clancy.php , this website was created during the year long hiatus and was occasionally updated with hints towards the album and overall world of dema.
the rebel red line makes more sense once you watch nico and the niners and jumpsuit. rebel red carnation growing is basically like his insecurities and demons coming back as he isnt making music. but when he makes music it cleanses him of that but also inspiring him hence the line”now you double as a paper maker”
The wall he's talking about is also the wall around Dema, a fictional city this album is based on. They created it for this album. It's the entire theme. It's controlled by bishops, one of which is Nico/Blurryface. There are rebels named Banditos trying to liberate Dema, who wear yellow cause the Bishops can't see it. But all of this is used to explore mental health, faith and their struggle with fame. If you liked this, check out Cut My Lip.
I think the 'build my house' reference mirrors CS Lewis's Mere Christianity, too. “Imagine yourself as a living house. God comes in to rebuild that house. At first, perhaps, you can understand what He is doing. He is getting the drains right and stopping the leaks in the roof and so on; you knew that those jobs needed doing and so you are not surprised. But presently He starts knocking the house about in a way that hurts abominably and does not seem to make any sense. What on earth is He up to? The explanation is that He is building quite a different house from the one you thought of - throwing out a new wing here, putting on an extra floor there, running up towers, making courtyards. You thought you were being made into a decent little cottage: but He is building a palace. He intends to come and live in it Himself.”
Just reacting to this😂..I was skeptical about subscribing for most of the video...but hearing you decipher these lyrics I realized I missed a lot of things...subscribed
You should react to Jumpsuit, Nico and the niners and Levitate (and probably heavydirtysoul too) to get an idea of what Trench is. Trench it’s a world Tyler created, and during the hiatus, well more towards the end, they started to give us some clues about what was coming. The place Tyler is during those videos is Dema, that’s where the bishops (blurryface aka nico) live and they capture people. When you scape you find yourself in Trench, which is the place you are before you are really out. I interpreted this like when you have anxiety and depression and you are trying to get better, then you are in trench, but sometimes you go back to depression, so you go back to dema because blurryface (the doubt and fears) has gotten to you, but once you really get through it, once you now how to deal with that stuff you are free and you go to another place which we don’t have a name yet because for now tyler finds himself between dema and trench. At least that’s how I see it and it has helped me to get through my anxiety and depression problems but i’m sure someone will explain it better or you can also watch a video of someone explaining it because there are a lot. Sorry if my english isn’t very good i’m spanish. I’m SO happy you’re liking them and enjoying their music!
To spend all that time and effort filling that pool for a short swim, only to have the pool be immediately drained... Framed like that, making music sounds exhausting.
Great work analyzing Chlorine. The Red Rebel reference I think refers to his red beany which wears in other music videos to symbolize his insecurities. Check out the Stressed out video he wears that beany. Check out Hometown. I still haven't seen anyone analyze that song properly.
I don’t know if it’s really relevant to this song but tyler used to say on his Self Titled Album that water was essentially life. So the pool could symbolize Tyler’s mind or essence, which is full of water, and as he’s pouring more and more chlorine (music) into it, Ned, which I believe to be his innocence, in the terms of his writing, is being supported due to the caring environment, hence it growing horns showing maturity.
@TheThirdErnest I just went through all your vids to make sure I hit the Like button (I forget that little dude all the time). But as I did YT was playing the intro to each vid and I just caught how you make some sort of sigh, groan, grunt, or exhale every. single. time. you. sit. down. LOL! So, I'm requesting you clip all of them and make a TTE Sit Down vid for your loyal fans! : 0 ) Anyway, great reaction, ma dude. I've never heard this song before, never seen the vid. I had to play back your play backs. You bring such insight. It's a talent. You've pretty much ruined all the other reaction channels for me. They just don't bring the video and lyrical deep dive and breakdown you do. : 0 ) Love, TTF Member (formerly known as Great Scott)
Definitely need to check out Stressed out! Will show you a glimpse of the longtime friendship between them and it hits hard for adults! Talking about going back to the days of imagination and riding big wheels, before having to be stressed out about the things as we grow up!
I feel like hes drinking Chlorine to clean his interior world, thats why he keeps comparing it to his music. I think Ned is also a representation of his inner demon, who swims in the chlorine to be cleansed
It’s not Josh’s hand giving him the cup at the end. It looks like Blurryface’s.
I might need to go on patreon just to get Ernest to react to the Phunintentional fan video for this song. It's an indie-style masterpiece. ua-cam.com/video/HaEyIhTJ1CQ/v-deo.html
Matthew Forstner hmmm....never thought about that one, I’ll have to look again.

same!! lol so unexpected and emotional!
Does it count as a 'bridge' if it doesn't join two points of a song? Surely it's essentially an outro.
MrNorbo95 the more I think about it the more I realize how right you are! Thanks for the correction, I’ll update!
you should really do Twenty One Pilots, "Holding onto to You" when you get the chance
Yes! I've listened to it a lot more recently. It would be a great reaction.

Hey Kelly!🙋🏽♀️ Thanks again for a fire request!!🙏🏼

Digging these TOP breakdowns! Also, good luck with catching up on the Patreon requests!
i'm from Brazil and even not been a great english speaker i can mostly understand what you're saying. I love your reactions and commentary of the lyrical content of the songs. Thank you so much! Love tøp and now loving this chanel!
You should check out some of their older stuff-like Kitchen Sink.
You are a really intelligent dude. I've watched a lot of reaction videos of people watching twenty one pilots and even though you don't know their whole story or history you pick up their messages right away. it's really awesome to watch.
Once again, Kitchen Sink and Neon Gravestones. yes pls
I found your channel when Godzilla came out and followed you through that album. Then took the NF train. And now on to 21 Pilots who I have loved for years! Love your breakdowns they make me appreciate artists I already love even more! Thassa BAR! 😍
Dude you give the best explanations of their songs. Keep doing your thing man.
Ned jumping into the water is also a metaphor. He only makes that jump when it's perfect, in which he evolves, that perfect we choose can change us
dude! was just watching all your top reaction vids and waiting for chlorine! kudos to you for putting out twenty one pilots content!
Vato almost 30k subs!! Great reaction carnal. Guns for hands is one you’ll definitely like heck every track they have is fuego homie.
My man, you literally have one of the best channel intro's I have ever seen it convinces people to subscribe but it's also not up in your face. Love your stuff bro also could you please do twenty one pilots Doubt
I’m pretty sure the term ukulele screamo cane from their song House of Gold, you should definitely react to that when you get a chance
Thought ya'll would never upload!
Can you please do The Hype-Berlin location session next?
Perska2411 yesssss
Yeeeh
Yess!!!!
Is that the one that sounds like big time rush crashed twenty one pilots' studio and recorded their own version of the song
Wow... I completely missed that one- amazing re-imagining - so much different lol.
I've never cried at this song.. but for some reason watching it on this breakdown when the flow switched tears started flowing!
dude loved your reaction to this song ..... please keep doing more twenty one pilots songs there is still a whole lot out there you will love .... just keep listening to the fam and they will let ya know.
Best reactor on youtube, you said alot of stuff i didnt even think of!
If you ever get a chance you have to see them live
Trust me, it's going to be one of the most memorable concert/night you will ever have...
Loving this TØP reactions, please do Jumpsuit next, I KNOW you’ll dig it.
Amazing TØP breakdown as always!
Part of me thinks you're a secret tøp fan because you interpret the songs spot on 😂 even more so than me & I've been a fan for almost 5 years
You always catch interpretations I miss. Love it.
All the mention of the colours yellow (all the tape Tyler and josh wear, album cover etc...) and red “rebel red carnation” is all to do with DEMA and the Nine Bishops. It’s a story that twenty one pilots have been telling secretly for years. I’d definitely recommend checking it out because it’s insanely complex and thought out
woo u just hit 100k congrats man!!
Yo dawg your channel grew a whole load. Congrats bruh!
Wow dude, I am subscribing! I am loving your videos
I am so glad that my friend got me to go to their concert it was one of the best i ever seen.
Can't believe I slept on TOP this long. Had most of their albums in my Amazon mp3 playlist for years, finally unearthed.
I never loved a youtube channel more than a guy who post videos everyday about twenty one pilots, my whoooole life. KEEP DOING THIS AND ANALIZE SELF TITLED. (sorry 4 my english)
Great vid man, Ned is officially a Funko POP figurine now btw, he's famous lol
Keep the TØP coming bro...great job.👏👏👏👏
Great reaction, as always!
Your breakdowns are the best brajj
Great reaction as always :) they aren't selling plushies of Ned but they are selling Ned funkos on nedbayou.com he looks so cute!
You should react to some of their live stuff. I'd recommend Fall Away Live ft. Dr. Blum....the older one that was filmed like 5 years ago. Love that you are continuing to react to Twenty One Pilots!
esommers12 YESSSSS!!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Every time you bring burden to my soul, you cleanse it at the same time. Thats fire!!
the rebel red line makes more sense once you watch nico and the niners and jumpsuit. rebel red carnation growing is basically like his insecurities and demons coming back as he isnt making music. but when he makes music it cleanses him of that but also inspiring him hence the line”now you double as a paper maker”
I really really love your reactions bro!
Just reacting to this😂..I was skeptical about subscribing for most of the video...but hearing you decipher these lyrics I realized I missed a lot of things...subscribed
I love how you read the meanings
I’m SO happy you’re liking them and enjoying their music!
another layer to the rebel red carnations is that the red carnation is the state flower of ohio and theyre both ohio boys
You're so intelligent, I always enjoy your interpretation thank you!
I love your detailed analysing!
Please react to Neon Gravestones, that's one big rollercoaster! ❤️
To spend all that time and effort filling that pool for a short swim, only to have the pool be immediately drained...
Framed like that, making music sounds exhausting.
Tyler has said that making Trench nearly broke him.
Dude you are a great person when it comes to reacting videos.
I love your reactions because you actually listen to it.
Great work analyzing Chlorine. The Red Rebel reference I think refers to his red beany which wears in other music videos to symbolize his insecurities. Check out the Stressed out video he wears that beany.
Check out Hometown. I still haven't seen anyone analyze that song properly.
The best TOP reaction I’ve seen. New subscriber her :)
Amazing breakdown!
love you videos man.. you should do the trilogy, jumpsuit, nico and the niners and levitate in that order!
Awesome breakdown of meanings!
Anyway, great reaction, ma dude. I've never heard this song before, never seen the vid. I had to play back your play backs. You bring such insight. It's a talent. You've pretty much ruined all the other reaction channels for me. They just don't bring the video and lyrical deep dive and breakdown you do. : 0 )
Love,
TTF Member (formerly known as Great Scott)
Do a reaction to a trilogy of their music videos..
Heavy Dirty Soul, Jumpsuit, Nico and the Niners, Levitate, on that order.. 🙂
Cezane Mohamed Does that make them. Quadrilogy? 🤔
"My interior world needs to sanitize" :)
