I think Athena’s Psycho Ball is probably the biggest or only reason why she had a few detractors. From how spammable the move is to the way she yells it. Great job with this list, Shoryugame.
But I like it.
Dont forget its tinnitus inducing voice line, you’d want to make sure you’re not blasting the game volume at 100% if u wanna still hear stuff other than PSYCHO BAAAAALL
I turn off the volume when I fight agains athena.
I mute my laptop when I'm watching a tournament and she pops up. Between the "PsYcHo BALL" and that "Di-Di-Di" sound she makes when using backdash, I simply can't stand to listen to her anymore.
98' was the worst, since the whole fight was nothing but:
*PSYCO BAAAALLL, TELEPORT, EEEEEEYYYYY*
Rugal's Genocide Cutter is enough for me...
I'd like to add Chris' slide (3B). Strong and annoying move that can punish jumps and even go under most projectiles

When asking about fighting game characters who scream very loud, Makoto Mizoguchi (from the Fighter's History series) comes to my mind.
Ray McDougal (in the first FH game) too, then Clown (another FH character)... ....
Looking back, the characters in the original Fighter's History game have the funniest screams in 90s fighting games 😆

The first time Kula got that special move, unfortunately it was not very useful 😅
I am glad SNK brought back that move for Kula in KOF XV and it works much better 😄
Characters got new special/desperation moves in the MI games. Hope SNK brings back those moves for future games

SNK destroyed Vanessa in 2002UM when she was high tier in vanilla 2002 (in my opinion, the best version of Vanessa in terms of gameplay) 😔
I agree with the number one. That move has saved me so many times. Seems you forgot chris slide.
Krizalid's Typhon Rage would also make a killer Assist trophy move making him one of the most powerful and rare Smash 6 Assist trophies.

This video gave me flashbacks to when an online Daimon in 98UM wiped the floor with my team, not one of my proudest moments
My Guy totally forget about takuma projectiles from 98, billy down and forward A in 2002, Mature standing CD in 96 etc 😅. Very entertaining video none the less.

While I do love all the lore videos on this channel, it's refreshing to hear you talk about moves and gameplay aspects too! Keeping with that type of content, I think it would be cool if you did a "Top 10 DP's" or a "Top 10 Command Grabs" list, focusing on specific types of moves. You could even do something that focuses more on aesthetics, like "Top 10 Satisfying Animations" or "Top 10 Most Impactful Supers". Just throwing some ideas your way!

The most annoying is definitely Sinobo Amou, boss of KOF Howling Blood. He has 2 phases, as a wind user, then a lightning user. If you think Goenitz is annoying, try fighting a boss with half screen, no frame start up lightning attack.
As I said before, Whip's Assasin's Strike is annoying for how much the AI loves to spam it in KOF 99, plus that scream (THAT DAMN SCREAM), to make thing worse it seems that team that I faced the most in KOF 99 is the Ikari Warriors, which mean more spamming and screams.

Except in KOF 97! That game has the WORST Athena's voice!
9:29 I think the reason why Athena is overhated is because many western players (especially in the FGC) hate 'cutesy/magical girl' characters for some unfair reason.

I hate that character so bad. Hee jumps more than a kangaroo, especially when he toasts you with his 2 legs while being up.

Jhun from kof 99 had a hop kick (activated from stance) that was anti air and overhead at the same time. Safe on block too, if I recall correctly.

10.- Krohnen and Nameless are very broken, but with the nerf, Krohnen dropped a lot as a broken character and is no longer invincible. Nameless, on the other hand, his normals are quite powerful and has a terribly fast recovery, plus a 2 power bar combo that lowers almost 80% of life bar. Curiously, K9999 in KOF 2001/2002 was never top tier, and he was a regular character, kind of bad, and is much more difficult to control. Nameless doesn't. He has easier combos than K9999.
9.- Whip's 'Assasin Strike' is not the most broken thing in KOF '99. It's annoying, but not broken. Ralf's normals are much more terrible than that, and have horrendous range and speed. There's a reason the Ikari Warrior is Top Tier in that edition.
8.- Choi is annoying, yes. But with characters with good anti-air (like Iori, Kyo and Kim) and a lot of patience, you can stop him. Very few people use him because it is very easy to be vulnerable to anti-air, projectiles, and long range hits. The only game where it is broken is in KOF '97, and even then, it suffers a lot against Tops like Daimon, Chang, Iori and Chizuru.
7.- Annoying move, but there are worse things in KOF 14.
6.- Yes, that kick is annoying. But it's much more annoying the diagonal C fist in KOF 98, which has a disgustingly big range and a very big speed, although in KOF '98 UM they nerfed it.
5.- Annoying, but very predictable movement. With a projectile character or with counterattack you can neutralize it.
4.- In this I agree. Ex Ryo's DP is an excellent move. It was nerfed in KOF '98 UM but it's still good.
3.- 3.- Here it depends on the version of the character. Where the Pycho Ball is really annoying is in the original KOF 2002. In the other games, it's not such a good projectile. You just have to learn how to deal with Athena's projectiles.
2.- Exactly, K''s overhead in 2002 UM comes in so fast that you can barely react to counterattack.
H.M.- Very much in agreement with most of the movements mentioned, especially Iori's command grab (which was fixed in KOF '98), and Yuri's hard kick Super Slash.
1.- 100% agree. Chris' CD is cancer, especially in KOF '98. In the other releases it's nerfed, but it's still very strong, but it's not so unfair anymore.
There are still more things that are truly more broken and annoying than the ones mentioned in the video, like Angel's infinite combos from KOF 2002, Kyo in '95, Iori in '96, Terry and Yamazaki in '97, Kensou in KOF '99... and moves like Mature's CD in KOF '96, Kim's normal ones in 2002... and the list goes on and on.
The most broken attack is ShoryuGame's "subscribe" attack. I can't block it; I only keep hitting it.
I have seen people coming back and winning a sure shot losing game playing with athena as the last character thanks to psychoballs, same with chris and goro for their pesky kicks
I can't believe "Lucky" from KOF98 basketballs , didn't even make a honorable mention , the most annoying character ever on KOF98.
I would add Kim's Hangetsuzan (EX ver.) from XIII, a strong mid range tool that is plus on block and can beat projectiles really well and give combe opportunities from anywhere you land it whether midscreen or corner.
When I play KOF, yes, some moves can be outright annoying. Good to see you still got it mate.
Capcom ironically fixed Choi by making him Chang's personal striker in CvS2, but for some reason,
that was a one-time thing as Choi not only remained a separate character from Chang in later SNK games, but was even a *solo act* in SVC Chaos.
Apparently the Korean fanbase took a liking to him, but eh, their cup of tea I guess....
Anything from Goro Diamon. I hate playing with and against him.

I love Athena's Psycho Ball is my favorite out of the list! One of my favorite characters in the entire franchise!

Firstly thank you for making these! Just downloaded um02 and am honestly aching for um98. It's a good game but 98 is classic.
Kulas ice spike strong punch attack borders on projectile and seems pretty broken.
Other than that... Hm.. yeah takuma/ryo with full projectile, flying kick and DP is pretty broken.
Ryo's 2002 Dp is OP too. 😎 Congratulations we can now call him Ryu.

If you think Whip's screams are loud, you should listen to K' voice in KOF 2001
He sounds so fierce and angry in that game, he also screams very loud .
I think it makes sense why he talks like that, KOF 2001 was the final chapter of the NESTS Saga, K' and his friends were very close to destroy NESTS once and for all.
That 98 ryo was the best he ever was just the pressure he could put down was enough to make him one of the best and that dp was just extra would love an old school version of him in 15 or at least give him this dp back
I remember Ralph's glactica phantom being a menace.
I like frustrating my openents into carelessness by constantly poking them with Yamazaki's Snake Arms and then when they are sufficiently goaded using Sadomaso to counter them trying to rush in.
Chris is my favorite character from KOF not only that, his df+B slide far and go under some fireballs, his f+B is great and in 2002 if someone use Block+CD it didn't hit him in some occasions I recall.
No 2002 Kim ultra-super-fast overhead? Safe even blocked and easy to start a combo canceling after it hits.
About Goro's moveset, I find more annoying his diagonal C (3+C): Insane range and it's the only normal attack with two separate hitboxes.
Chris qcf p in KOF98 is super annoying too. It can even act as an antiair

Also, you should have mentioned Krauser's standing CD on 98 Ultimate Match. So fast and with such a good priority it was a powerful anti-air and also had decent forward coverage. Titled "God Kick" by fans, it had to be nerfed (along with several parts of his arsenal) in the Final Edition version of the game.
I was surprised to not see Rigal's "Genocide Cutter" in this list.

If i could add one it would be choi's shoulder ride throw in kof94, a lot of people who pick choi often combine his dashes and jumps with his throw, some characters are simply too vulnerable to that tactic, like yuri, her moves are way too slow and everytime choi fights yuri in kof94 i'd say 60% of the time you're going to see choi riding on yuri's shoulders like an annoying little kid slashing her face viciously
The thing is about Krohnen/Nameless is the fact that their DP is some of the strongest in the game
Heck, it got so bad, it's reminiscent of Bob during Tekken 6 or Meta Knight in Smash where everyone is using them
(And how I got my guts to play Team Krohnen through and through)

- yeah, I like Athena, but certain installments, her voice was grating and how easy it is to spam with her made a bad combination.lol I liked her '96 voice though. it wasn't so high.
- the infamous Chris kick greatly deserves its spot.
- Ryo's DP. His recovery is the best I've seen with a DP (aside from Batsu's from Rival Schools since if I remember correctly, it doesn't even leave the ground)
Angel's rekka's don't jail and have dead windows, so she's up to the brain to make sure they work, not really annoying imo
Personally I would put all jumping blow back attacks at #1, not just Chris. Doesn’t matter if I’m on the ground or in an air to air attack scenario I loss to it.

Character Lucky has Down Down Motion + Any Button air ball attack, has been very annoying, when Players utilise it at perfect timings.
For me it is k's overhead in 2002UM ...he can land a combo only doing crouch b and an overhead fast af that he can cancel in a minute spike

Kasumi's jump D that has great range, lots of active frames and huge cross up reach. Enough said.
They should implement ban system tho, that will prevent this kind of abuse in tournament
King spamming Venom Strikes and that ANNOYING Surprise Rose where she catches air kicks on you while your stunned in that attack, Clark’s freakin Grabs are the absolute worst I keep my distance and zone him. Also Heidern’s move where he leaps on you unblockable and spin slices you he especially spams this in KOF94(making Team Ikari one of the worst) and in 95. All of Sie Kensou’s special kicks and one anti air move particularly topped with spamming Psycho Balls and Athena too spamming that and her Psycho Barrier made Psycho Solider Team in 94 tough contenders along with Ikari Warriors I think throughout the series they continued to be annoying. Also Andy Bogard’s Kuuha Dan for its annoyingly long reach and Shouryuu Dan being anti air. Most of Ramon’s specials anything where he says Tiger and grabs lol. Most of King of Dinosaur/Tizoc’s unclose personal attacks yeah I don’t like Grapplers if you can tell. Those from the top of my head.

OMG I knew I wasn't the only one annoyed by Choi! I just can't stand fighting him :c
Heidern's Cross Cutter is worse than Chris's CD. In KOF94-95 you could do nothing against a turtling Heidern spamming this move because the projectile's hit box was a wall and he recovered way too fast making it impossible to jump in.
athena is my main... i just love throwing psycho ball, psycho sword and phoenix arrow... and also that ungodly teleport spamming that put even akuma to shame...

About whip a move i hated and loved at the same time is when she catch her opponent with her weapon then dragging him for stomping that one with a creepy laugh.
