I had the chance to play music to them during some excercises, and I was allowed to play any music I wanted as long as the content wasn't aggressive or obscene. I did play the Beatles: The children were generally relaxed and happy and started humming (these children can't talk) but they started getting sleepy. The day I worked miracles on them was the day I straight up chose a playlist with "music for a mexican party" on spotify and started playing Chico Che, La Sonora Santanera, Perez Prado...and the likes. They were in a very good mood, I got them to coordinate their hand movements, they started clapping, they drew their numbers and figures rhythmically and we didn't struggle to get them to go to the restroom that day. Some melodies like the "Tiburón a la vista" song got stuck in their heads: The child who can articulate a few words will randomly start singing that song in tune. It's amazing. I still play that list frequently and sometimes i think I'm only playing other types of music to avoid them going tired from it. While reflecting about that day, it came to mind that these experiments are always done with either the Beatles or classical music, and how those people wouldn't as much as consider using latin american vernacular music merely because they're snobs and god forbid they're caught listening to cumbias unironically. I can tell you first hand that they'missing out on a lot. I do enjoy the Beatles and IDK if they have cured cancer or what, but for me there are better options as per "miracles".
