And speaking of dinosaur parks, my family and I went to a place called Dinosaur World years ago in Florida and we saw two Dilo statues there. One was the JP version which explained its inaccuracies, and the other was a more realistic version.
The reason why Dilophosaurus spits venom in Jurassic Park to begin with is bc, at the point the book was being written, it was believed the animal didn't have a super strong bite. So it was given the ability to spit acidic venom for speculative compensation as well as making it really fucking scary

Also if you looked closely at the purple crested skin of the Dilophosaurus in Prehistoric Kingdom you will notice that it has feathers on its back, they're just not super noticeable.
There's also a game called Dino D-Day that has its fair share of unique dinos! It's a Half-Life 2 mod where the Germans get a bunch of Dinosaurs and the Allies are trying to stop them.
To the part about roaring, crocodilans actually can make sounds that are similar to roaring. I've seen lots of videos of crocodiles making sounds and they can do roaring-like noises (more close to bellowing though), and pretty hearable ones too. Tyrannosaurus in Prehistoric Planet makes similar noises. I know it's not the same as a tiger roraing for example, but it sounds similar. the best answer I can give in terms of the lore is that Dr Wu inserted different genes into these animals and the Dilophosaurus had different genes in it that gave it it's frill & venom spit. Dr Wu has had a history of combining different animal cells to create his creations such as the Indominus Rex & Indoraptor. plus, they did say that the dinosaurs were cloned using frog DNA to fill in the gene sequence gaps. so, genetic engineering must of required a lot of borrowing other species genes to create these animals which is why these creatures are more closer to hybrids than actual dinosaurs. think of them as the Jurassic Park versions of Mewtwo in which they are slightly enhanced with different features. the T-Rex with it's increased speed, the Raptor's increased size and heightened intelligence, and the Dilo's frill & venom spit.
Dilophosaurus is my all-time favorite animal in the fossil record. I enjoy most of the entries you listed that I was previously aware of. It's also on my Fossil Fighters team - Water elemental, it does have the JP frill, but it's got a BEAUTIFUL blue and purple coloration.

I too have been to the Dinosaur Journey Museum in Fruita, Colorado a couple of times in my life; the water-spitting animatronic Dilophosaurus there was built by an animatronics company that was big in the 80s and early-to-mid 90s dubbed _Dinamation International Corporation._ They're no longer around, unfortunately (😔), but a good number of the animatronic dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures they built still survive, and the museum in Fruita is one such location.

Here in my home state of Connecticut the dilophosaurus is our official state dinosaur. In our state's Dinosaur State Park a number of preserved dilophosaurus footprints can be seen. A rather small museum but nice to visit.
In the 1995 anime "Kyōryū bōken jura tripper", there's an episode (the 26th, you can find it here on youtube) featuring Dilophosaurus as the main antagonist, and they spit venom like in JP, no frill though.

Basically Steven came up to him when he was designing the creature and said “….remember crash, this animal needs to fit into a car”. So apparently they design the Dilo around the scene and not the other way around.
Add that to the list. The DVD commentary mentioned that they were worried the audience would confuse it with the velociraptors, so it was scaled down partially for that reason.

You should have a look at the Minecraft mod “prehistoric nature” it has over 800 prehistoric animals from the pre-cambrian all the way to the Jurassic at the moment the Jurassic is still being worked on so yea but they are going until the present day the creatures are as accurate as they can be within the restrictions of Minecraft and they will update animals and there models if new research comes out on them with noticeable differences

I’m very late to commenting on this video, but I should probably say that the reason why Lego Jurassic world stuff can feel off with the Raptors and the Dilos being super big when compared to both JP media and real life is because Lego was reusing a bunch of parts from a previous dinosaur set line, Lego Dino, to make the Jurassic world sets quickly, and the designs have stayed ever since. Almost every Lego Dino Dinosaur made it into Lego Jurassic world (except for the Coelophysis, which was scaled to about the size of a minifigure, larger than the real Coelophysis but probably about the same size as a Accurate Dilophosaurus), including the Super sized raptors, and now for Jurassic World animals like the Dilo Lego just reuses its oversized raptor body, giving the Dilo the exact opposite problem when compared to its appearance in the movie: it’s now too big.
In Jurassic park I don't believe that they made the dilophosaurus small and gave it a frill to differentiated it from the other theropod dinosaurs because the dilophosaurus literally has two massive distinctive and unique crest on its head, with a feature like that how can you confuse it with the other dinosaurs

I'm surprised by the amount of non-JP inspired Dilophosaurs in media. Now that you've brought up Prior Extinction, will you include it in future videos? The dino designs are generally pretty good (though the Dacentrurus and Beipiaosaurus are questionable).
Another thing that you forgot to mention is that the Jurassic Park novel Dilophosaurus beside having a more accurate size, they also lack the frill like in the movie, and it seem to be cable of lifting am overweighted man like Nedry up with just it jaws with ease which is plausible since new study show that the Dilophosaurus actually have quite a strong jaws, capable of bite through bones. So that mean the Dilophosaurus in the novel are actually quite accurately even for this time, the only thing that is not accurate is it venom spitting, but overall everything else is very accurate.
It's a bit hard to notice, especially from further away that the grey Dilophosaurus with the purple Crests from Prehistoric Kingdom also is lightly feathered

What kind of frog will give it a frill? The only thing the splicing has an effect on, is that it allows the animals to change their sex so that “life can find a way”. The “change in an appearance” thing is an explanation the newer movies use to justify certain design choices. Out of universe, the filmmakers had completely different intentions while making this movie.
9:32 Roars being a "mammal only" thing is a slightly goofy myth/misconception that im not sure where it originates from. "True roar" isnt a thing, roar just means any prolonged sound made by a big animal. The deep bellows of cassowaries are roars, the screeches of shoebill storks are roars, the hisses of aligators are roars, theyre not mammal-like roars, but they are roars.
It's just creative freedom. Alan Grant doesn't question the tour voice when it says Dilophosaurus was poisonous. The frill was added so normies wouldn't confuse it with the Velociraptors (IMO the crests should've been enough but it's fine). Also, the cobras you're probably referring to dont spit venom the way the JP Dilo does. Spitting cobras squeeze their venom glands, forcing the venom out of forward-facing holes in their fangs. JP's Dilo spits venom from glands in its throat. You can see the glands more clearly in the film's concept art.
In terms of Jurassic park, the only DNA used to fill in the gaps was that of frogs. And the only effect that had was allowing the animals to change sex. The design of the Dilophosaurus was done purely for out of universe filmmaking decisions.
The frill of the JP dilophosaurus is not too far off as in that way it has a kind of complex display structure and makes it least shrink wrapped and some dinosaurs may also have been venamous but we just do not know.
JP's Dilophosaurus is inspired by frilled lizards, which have a long hyoid bone to support their frills. Dilophosaurus is not known to have such bony correlates. The JP Dilo is shrinkwrapped regardless, as the ribs are visible underneath the skin. It's possible that some dinosaurs were venomous, but currently, we haven't found any.

I thought it was weird that they didn't just introduce a "fully grown" dilophosaurus. They probably could have replaced the baryonyx from Fallen Kingdom with a fully grown dilophosaurus. It is smaller but probably would have been able to fill the same role that the baryonyx does in that movie.

Another thing that you forgot to mention is that the Jurassic Park novel Dilophosaurus beside having a more accurate size, they also lack the frill like in the movie, and it seem to be cable of lifting am overweighted man like Nedry up with just it jaws with ease which is plausible since new study show that the Dilophosaurus actually have quite a strong jaws, capable of bite through bones. So that mean the Dilophosaurus in the novel are actually quite accurately even for this time, the only thing that is not accurate is it venom spitting, but overall everything else is very accurate.

In the movies the dilo looks like that because of the genetics needed to finish the DNA sequence.

The “change in an appearance” thing is an explanation the newer movies use to justify certain design choices. Out of universe, the filmmakers had completely different intentions while making this movie.

Roars being a "mammal only" thing is a slightly goofy myth/misconception that im not sure where it originates from. "True roar" isnt a thing, roar just means any prolonged sound made by a big animal. The deep bellows of cassowaries are roars, the screeches of shoebill storks are roars, the hisses of aligators are roars, theyre not mammal-like roars, but they are roars.
I would like to think the reason the jp dilo has all its "features" is because they used frilled lizard and cobra D.N.A

It's just creative freedom. Alan Grant doesn't question the tour voice when it says Dilophosaurus was poisonous. The frill was added so normies wouldn't confuse it with the Velociraptors (IMO the crests should've been enough but it's fine).
Also, the cobras you're probably referring to dont spit venom the way the JP Dilo does. Spitting cobras squeeze their venom glands, forcing the venom out of forward-facing holes in their fangs. JP's Dilo spits venom from glands in its throat. You can see the glands more clearly in the film's concept art.
In terms of Jurassic park, the only DNA used to fill in the gaps was that of frogs. And the only effect that had was allowing the animals to change sex. The design of the Dilophosaurus was done purely for out of universe filmmaking decisions.

The frill of the JP dilophosaurus is not too far off as in that way it has a kind of complex display structure and makes it least shrink wrapped and some dinosaurs may also have been venamous but we just do not know.
JP's Dilophosaurus is inspired by frilled lizards, which have a long hyoid bone to support their frills. Dilophosaurus is not known to have such bony correlates. The JP Dilo is shrinkwrapped regardless, as the ribs are visible underneath the skin.
It's possible that some dinosaurs were venomous, but currently, we haven't found any.
@@Bagelgeuse yea the JP dilophosaurus is still shrink wrapped under the skin but when you look at the skeleton of many animals today most of them look quite different from their skeletal counterparts
I thought it was weird that they didn't just introduce a "fully grown" dilophosaurus. They probably could have replaced the baryonyx from Fallen Kingdom with a fully grown dilophosaurus. It is smaller but probably would have been able to fill the same role that the baryonyx does in that movie.
Truly a missed opportunity.

Sinornithosaurus apparently was venomous. Or so some people think, has grooves in its teeth like the blood groove on a sword or bowie knife. Now, on this I'll agree with you venomous dinosaurs isn't really that likely, but God only knows man. I mean, they compared it to a Gila monster in planet dinosaur. But again, who knows? Could there have been venomous dinosaurs, absolutely! Have we found any that have been fossilized? Nope! Not yet, anyway.

Komodo dragons have venom glands. You can see it in their skull. Venom is for sure something we would be able to see in fossils.
