The banjo has been lifted to a new level by Noam Pikelny; it has never been played quite like this before. Sugar Maple is just pure genius; so original yet so beautifully musical!
@chris m I suppose you could make the argument that their styles -- as composers -- are quite distinct. This is practically impressionist harmony. But I agree, they're both at the pinnacle of technical mastery over their instruments.
@@barvdw I play mandolin a little, classical guitar a lot. I'm glad we both like Noam's playing, I also like French Impressionist composers and it seems Noam does too, I could easily explain why I believe so if you were here and we both had instruments, I'm a music teacher, but in words it would be tedious..... and then there is the popular position of asserting ignorance as moral superiority which would, as always, be tedious to deal with.
Unfortunately I don't play an instrument. Wish I did, though. I did not mean to suggest you don't know, I'm sorry if it came across that way, I don't know. But there's one thing I can tell you're right about, talking about music is a lot more boring than either playing or listening:)
