  • This is a 2021 Kawasaki Ultra LX, one of the last production years of a ski that ran from 2007 to 2022. This machine is super reliable, durable, and capable.

    The interesting part is that I see Kawasaki skis on the water but good buying one, people holding on to them.
    Seadoos and Yamahas galore in the used market, at least in my area 🤷‍♂️

      You are 100% correct- these Ultras will last 25-30 years and hundreds and hundreds of hours without many issues, so people tend to hold onto them.

    Nice. I was thinking of buying a jetski and one of the first things I found is a 2007 221 hrs Ultra LX so I decided to search around on them. Seems they are well loved by you guys. The owner of this particular one apparently just dropped 2300 on service on it this month, including a drive shaft, damper, battery, spark plugs, reverse cable and whatever the handle is...ask 5500 with new tires and bearings trailer. While I am mechanically inclined, I have to admit, I know next to nothing about these things....

    Great jetski for sure. One of the most reliable Jetskis ever produced. Had a friend that took his 2012 Kawi Ultra LX to Abaco in 2019. Believe me he was thankful he was on that model for the adventure. Thanks for sharing JD

      I tend to focus on the 310, but the LX is actually much more reliable due to the simple design and the fact is has less components to fail!

    Can't say enough good things about this ski. My 2015 I bought new has 480 trouble free hours on it. I've had 2013 300x, 2015 310x, and 2018 310x. Those were in the shop all the time for problems. The Ultra LX is the only one I still have. Cant beat simple.

    The Ultra LX also has 56 gallons of storage space and a front storage compartment opening large enough to actually use all that space. Plus it has the massive 20 gallon fuel tank from the Utlra 310 while consuming significantly less fuel for really excellent cruising range.

      @24:24 there’s info about the valve shims and checking valve lash.
      It’s a very solid engine and not prone to wear. Unless you’re experiencing power loss or have low compression, it’s not something you need to worry about. Especially at 80 hours

    My 2023 Ultra160LX does 50mph GPS tops in flat water. I still prefer the 23 over the older models, the fly by wire throttle and reverse better, and the old screen looks like a flip phone lol

      I have not actually ridden the new Ultra 160 yet but will have the opportunity in a few weeks. It is slower than the previous gen as of right now, but I know there are ride plates, tunes, and pump wedges that will be coming to the market that will improve the speed greatly

    • @edwardbowles8613

      1500 is a great engine. My 160LXS can do 55 with less than 1/3 tank and one rider on back of seat. Surprisingly trim makes no difference from neutral to full up. Down slows it down and plants nose but unlike previous skis with trim, neutral to full up no difference. Very surprising. And I added a wedge that made no difference. 55 not bad but was hoping wedge and full up low on gas might net 57. Still love the ski. Especially in the ocean. Trying a ride plate next year. My 2005 15f is probably over 700 hours now. Engine never touched. Replaced gauge after 2022. Know it was well over 600 hours and it was ran a lot last summer with new gauge. 2020 160x well over 200 hours. Only issue was fuel filter. 15f still has original fuel filter!

    Is there the possibility to add a rack for supplementary fuel tanks on the 2007-2022 Ultras? How and where would the rack fit? The area in the back seems a bit smallish.

    • @JDsWaterWorld
      @JDsWaterWorld  8 місяців тому +1

      There are a few rack options- PWC SuperRack has a few that fit on both the current and previous gen Ultras. Watercraft Journal sells a long hauler fuel system that fits on this skis as well!

      @JDsWaterWorld  4 місяці тому

      Hard to say..salt or fresh water? What maintenance was done over the years? It’s an almost 20 year old ski so likely will need thousands in maintenance items to get it up to par to be “reliable” and it will never be as good as a 310. You’re better off getting a 310- even a first gen 310- in my opinion as it has so so so many improvements over the 250z

    • @JDsWaterWorld
      @JDsWaterWorld  4 місяці тому +3

      Here’s the bottom line: the Kawasaki is built from SMC and gelcoat and has a proven reliable engine and drivetrain. The new Yamaha has a new 1.9l engine that might potentially have defects or issues that have not been worked out yet- I would like to say this is doubtful, but with any new platform you never know. The biggest weak point of the Yamaha is the painted hull..I don’t care what you do, the paint does not hold up well, especially on the bottom where the trailer bunks contact the hull. The new FX is a bit faster than the Ultra 160 due to the hull design. The Yamaha footwell drains and great! I think the Kawasaki Display and software with the jog dial is much easier to use and is faster than the Yamaha. My advice would be to go sit on both, have your girl sit on both and see which one is more comfortable for you both. They are both great skis- I prefer Kawasaki for durability and reliability- I personally would not buy Yamaha skis again until they go back to a more durable hull coating. I tell people this: I buy the best, and if I thought that Yamaha or SeaDoo made the best product I would own 3 of them like I do Kawasakis!

    • @JDsWaterWorld
      @JDsWaterWorld  4 місяці тому +1

      The 2013 and 2021 are the same- very easy to maintain and exceptionally reliable. Has the ski been used in salt water? Does it have Maintenance records? Pull the dipstick and inspect the oil- if it’s very black that likely means it was not changed regularly..check for corrosion on the bolt heads..There is lots to inspect including compression, impeller condition, etc. Always demand a test drive- even if the owner takes you out, if there’s nothing to hide they will usually always agree when asking full retail price like that.

    • @Jimmmer
      @Jimmmer 4 місяці тому

      That is the fastest answer I’ve ever gotten on UA-cam….ever lol Thank You🙏🏼Says it was never in Salt before. I saw a 2009 260 Ultra X Riva Stage 1 Supercharged 145hrs for $6500 but I thought it might be problematic with the SC on it.Not a first time rider, but def 1st time buyer. I’ve heard of a compression gauge to hook up to it as well

    • @JDsWaterWorld
      @JDsWaterWorld  4 місяці тому +1

      Haha always happy to help a fellow Jet Ski enthusiast out! You know, I’d stay away from the Ultra 260 and if you are interested in supercharged go with the 310- but they require lots of maintenance (like any supercharged ski) so you either need to be able to do it yourself or have a skilled mechanic you can rely on to do it for you. Also you want to avoid anything with Riva or aftermarket parts- normally those have had the living snot ridden out of them and the aftermarket performance parts usually don’t age as well as the oem. If the LX was never in salt it should theoretically be fine with 153 hrs but keep in mind it’s 10 years old..so chances are cooling hoses and fuel lines, fuel filter bag, etc etc will need to be replaced as a matter of safety and reliability if they haven’t already. As I said, through inspection and compression test and then ride it to make sure there’s no funky problems..

    • @Jimmmer
      @Jimmmer 4 місяці тому

      Awesome, I had the same thoughts with supercharged being rode like hell.I’m pretty mechanically inclined and if hoses,fuel lines, fuel filter bag are easy on these, shouldn’t be a problem.I doubt those will be expensive to purchase.Its almost 1a.m. and I’m doing all the research I can, but I REALLY respect the guys that own,ride,and work on them.Some things I might pay a mechanic to do but we’ll see about that lol reliability is the biggest for me. I live in Florida,I’ve heard of a lot of ppl shooting over to Bimini Bahamas on jet skis but I’ll have to see if this is a viable vessel for the trip lol this video really caught my ears somehow and I watch hundreds.Thanks again.Looking at your channel you provide ACTUAL massive value.Cheers

    • @JDsWaterWorld
      @JDsWaterWorld  4 місяці тому

      Well thanks for the comment! Yeah the LX is a tank- great reliable and easy to maintain ski. For a trip to the Bahamas you will need a rack to carry your extra fuel- the LX gets about 5-6 mpg at cruising speed while the supercharged skis get closer to 4 mpg
