13:36 I did not know about this feature of Reindev. I appreciate this a lot. The Aether series have always been a massive part of my childhood, so having the abilities of the Aether equivalent of overworld tools ripped from the aether and implemented in this mod is much appreciated and feels like an elegant way to add certian missing features like silk touch to the game with a good bit of fun game design.
A lot of the changes are quite good, and i do enjoy them. Notch, for all of his work, did well enough in his ideas, and this mod implements them very well. But, there are indeed some awful implimentations, such as Ash, Sugar, having Foxes but not Cats, and all of the anime-esque amd furry stuff. This does not mesh with the many increase in structure spawns, especially nether fortress'. I do like some of the potions, and dynamite is fun but too strong. Many of the potions are also needless and strong, and gears and the like are... alright. But, "Minecraft" might be stretching it. Moreover, the Fog is very nice, but the removal of Void Fog is a dissappintment. So, overall, it is a mod that does much of what us players who enjoy older editions want to see. But, it also does quite a bit too much, and that is often a turnoff. 6/10
Yeah, i wish they hadn’t just gone and removed redstone, because redstone to me has always seemed like an interesting idea: a volatile material that gives off electricity when disturbed. They could’ve even made it so that you could put redstone on walls to retain the functionality from gears.
I was so sad and let down when they removed Fog. I even stopped playing for a long while because it changed my experience so heavily. I played almost 100% with the closest fog setting, and it made my world stay mysterious and undoscovered. Features only a few dozen blocks away were interesting impactful and I had to connect my builds with clear paths to not get lost. It also made it necessary for me to think about my world in more mindful way. Try to remember what laid ahead or in my mind try to make out a map of what things really looked like. When I return to this save file now, more than 10 years later, there's no mystery and no ambience. It's almost silly how scary or intimidating some directions were to me bacl then, that is just a completely normal hill or pack of trees. The small area I claimed for myself and wandered around felt so huge, but you could fly past it in 2 seconds with an elytra. I would argue hard that it is not the same to keep a low render distance. For a long time I was the annoying friend that complained about the game removing a feature that made the game "less bad".
Those new pickaxe material modifers is likely inspired off the aether, they had similar gimmicks, and I like that it adds more thought to simple things
I remember Beta 1.7.3 vividly, because We did not have home internet at the time, so i packed up my PC and took it to my Grandparents house, so i could download and install Minecraft. I was then able to use a USB drive and download mods at school and take them home to play and experiment with.
BROOO! I did the same thing, except i took that usb drive with all the mods and also had the actual game on it. Me and my friends would swap it around school and let people make copies, one time we even were able to upload it directly onto the schools computers so that everyone at school could grab it and play. Felt like an absolute king
The visuals of old Minecraft, like Pocket Edition were on another level. They made nights feel scary, and playing feel fun. Something toggling off smooth lighting just cannot replicate, since the textures and atmosphere are still the modern equivalent or lack thereof. I wish they'd give us a "Pocket Edition" or "Alpha" texture pack or something.
If you haven’t heard of it already, the Authentic Adventure mod is another great total conversion mod. It’s a lot newer, but it essentially rewrites the adventure update into something more similar to what the playerbase expected when it was announced. It has some amazing terrain generation and overhauls a lot of structures and features. I’d recommend you check it out, and great video as always!
when you pulled out that cauldron and spawned the foxes i thought you were gonna reveal you were fucking with us the whole time and playing a modern version with a texture pack and just presenting modern features as if they were new and part of a mod for old minecraft
I think the reason that these old versions of Minecraft still have appeal today is because, unlike the current version of Minecraft, they feel complete and finished. Even though all of the features of old Minecraft are also in new Minecraft, most of that additional content is underwhelming and half baked. The new cave system, which changed the way the entire world was generated to accommodate it, only added 2 new cave biomes, leaving the caves to feel like they're still in development, when the old caves didn't have this feeling. Hell, the villagers are STILL being overhauled and developed, which were introduced to the game 12 YEARS AGO. They've felt unfinished this whole time. The End is still only one biome with 2 structures. And they keep adding half baked ideas that highlight how shallow most of it is. Mods like this show what could have been: a more well-rounded expansion of the original concept.
Bingus! You're doing great! I like your style and I like seeing all the little improvements you've made to your videos over time. I can't wait to see how you change things up in the future, especially as you create more non-minecraft content. I am genuinely excited for your next upload.
This is one of the things that makes minecraft so great - it’s so easy to access older versions that you might prefer and mod the game to be whatever you want it to be
New sub. Definitely trying this as a massive Better Than Adventure and NSSS fan! You have one of the best first impressions from the intro I've had in years. The delivery is immaculate
The amazing thing about minecraft modding community is how they can make a completley different game with minecraft and sometimes even an actual new game like Vintage Story!
I used to be really scared of Minecraft in certain situations. Playing anything other than peaceful survival or creative was a no-go, especially not after they added phantoms (there was no toggle for them at the time on Pocket Edition). Even when I should've felt totally safe, there were times where I was so scared of.. pretty much nothing. The vast open space of superflat, the dark caves in normal worlds.. they can't compare to the terror I felt pre-1.16 when I went below bedrock and my screen went pitch black. That was the single most terrifying thing I'd ever encountered in the game. Nowadays, I've sought treatment for my anxiety, so these things don't scare me anymore, but I'll never forget that fear I felt even into early adulthood
i am not even joking i fucking screamed "COGS!" at 5:34 because the clip that played next has been in the back of my head my entire life especially lately after some redstone work that would've been better if I could USE WIRES or something
Another thing that dovetails with Fear, I think, is old micecraft was _way_ more lethal than it is now. (And I think hunger was a major contributor to survivabiltiy.) Also, fire. Fire was a huge and ever-present menace before the nerf. (I loved that about it.)
After watching this video a few weeks ago I joined the discord and have been playing on the public/anarchy server hosted by moderators of the discord every day. It's remarkable how the variations and additions of this mod not only add to the MC experience, but build entire new ways of playing the game. If you're on the fence about this mod but also really want a reason to play MC again, I recommend trying it out.
Have you seen mangopack? Maybe you could make a video about it too. It's a modpack for beta 1.7.3 that has many old mods (such as aether, better than wolves, buildcraft etc). About reindev, I love what they did with tools, you have a variety of different tools that have their place. Also belts seem interesting and I wonder how could they be used. Might give this mod a try.
I will never forget being terrified everytime i played my world back in 2011 and having the fog set to tiny. The herobrine copypasta made it even worse!!!
I like how this mod seems to be incorporating old and new designs. From old and new Minecraft, new ideas, cut ideas, and ideas never part of PC Minecraft and adding them. This gave a reminiscent feeling to those who played MCPE or the consoles and the handheld console device versions and went to PC which most did.
came here after getting into better than adventure mod and old versions in general... i love these overhaul mods, you get an experience you can't get in modern versions that's way better than the original development version

As a person among the first who datamined Dusk's Wendigo back in days when only Episode 1 was out, seeing them in Minecraft is both surreal and VERY scary and also very personal, in a weird way
The wendigo is seriously one of the best designed enemies I've ever seen in any game. I've played through Dusk a handful of times now, and I'll never stop having the biggest rush of "oh shit oh fuck what the fuck is this fuck" every time I hear the sound effect. Pretty sure I've heard the sounds in dreams before. It's just a part of my identity now.
Wouldn't mind seeing Dusk's Windigo as a separate mod for regular minecraft. Alot of enemies from Dusk feel like they could be implemented well into minecraft like the bone balls and black goats
@@nuculartoastpotentialvtuber I know that Lycanite's Mobs went after a lot of Doom engine shooters for monster ideas - Nether enemies obviously are from Doom, but there's a good number from Hexen, too. It can very much work!
ReIndev is a good mod. But in it's current iteration it feels very incomplete to me. I do appreciate the more "whimsy" aesthetic it has overall. Although, in it's current iteration, it feels like a big tech showcase with little attention to how it plays in survival. The nether is immensely empty, the floating islands don't have much of anything outside of 5 items, and the underground feels rather empty (I've never encountered a hive/dungeon in survival...) There's also the very... unusual paintings, which I can see being very off-putting to players that are more well-adjusted to society (to put it bluntly, people who aren't terminally online). It has potential, I just hope the developers can utilize the potential. I'm do not believe that will happen in the near future however, as it seems all the development is focused on trivial aesthetic features instead of the core gameplay...
I have always thought that Mojang not making Minecraft into a modular game is such a waste for what is one of the flagship titles for the sandbox genre. Activating or disabling different features should be a setting, allowing players playing with old world generation while keeping stuff like new minerals or mobs. If a mod can make it happen, Mojang could without a second thought.
My friend got me into this mod and i really do love it. I dived head first knowing nothing about it, so its pretty cool that you published a video about it!
8:33 I started playing just before Beta 1.8. I remember getting freaked out due to the cave noises and the stories about herobrine. Caving with fog back then was eerie. I remember my main world on "maryanddadsos" seeming like it had a massive island to explore, but looking back at it, that island was not very large. All my seemingly distant builds were right next to each other when the render distance was turned up. I'll never be able to return to those feelings, but this mod looks like it can at least try to.
i don't know which I love more, "Hello, Bingus, I'm Chondo" or "Hello, Chondo, I'm Bingus," but I was delighted to hear it either way. Maybe alternate?
Someone needs to port the beta world generation to the new versions of Minecraft and then we would all be complete! All the new features with superior world gen but keeping the depth with the original caves would be so cool!
13:52 Damn, gotta say that those extra abilities for tools are really selling to me. I love how they make it so that they all pretty much keep having uses, regardless of how wealthy you get in the game. Really nice that Gold tools got silk touch, that would really incentivise making gold tools. So far ive only used stone tools for slow grindy gathering, iron toools (especially pickaxes) for diamond collection and diamond tools for obsidian and for whenever I want to slap some enchantments on a tool.

This is actually just straight up an enemy from DUSK. Same sound effects and everything. They're called the Wendigo.
Pretty sure that’s a kind of folklore creature from Native American mythology
@@willmungas8964 it indeed is, that's what the enemy is based around
Modern Minecraft has fallen
Billions must play Pre-Global Launch Minecraft
For a long time I was the annoying friend that complained about the game removing a feature that made the game "less bad".
the Wendigo in the Fear section is cool. I didn't think porting the DUSK enemy would work that well
Those new pickaxe material modifers is likely inspired off the aether, they had similar gimmicks, and I like that it adds more thought to simple things
I played this mod, and I understand now why people love Beta 1.7.3. The gameplay loop is so simple and strait forward!
They straight up added the Wendigo from Dusk. I’m sold.
Bringing the Wendigo's from DUSK is SO cool !! Even down to the noises !!
There's already a mod like this called "The Right Branch of Development"
That's pretty bold title if you ask me, cool
If you haven’t heard of it already, the Authentic Adventure mod is another great total conversion mod. It’s a lot newer, but it essentially rewrites the adventure update into something more similar to what the playerbase expected when it was announced. It has some amazing terrain generation and overhauls a lot of structures and features. I’d recommend you check it out, and great video as always!
10:15 that is straight up an enemy from Dusk by David Szymanski called the wendigo. The sound effects and behaviour are basically 1 to 1 the same
when you pulled out that cauldron and spawned the foxes i thought you were gonna reveal you were fucking with us the whole time and playing a modern version with a texture pack and just presenting modern features as if they were new and part of a mod for old minecraft
i thought the chapters of the video were going to spell out "INFDEV" but now i feel like an actual fool
Those invisible mobs that killed you are from Dusk, that's so rad!
I'll admit I was dubious... then I played it for 5 hours last night and am about to jump back in. I'd forgotten how much fun "old" minecraft was!
Bingus! You're doing great! I like your style and I like seeing all the little improvements you've made to your videos over time. I can't wait to see how you change things up in the future, especially as you create more non-minecraft content. I am genuinely excited for your next upload.
The feature I miss the most from old Minecraft was the jagged terrain generation.
Can’t agree more. I miss seeing a desert bordering a mooshroom biome and it going from sand to mycelium with no warning
I LOVED the old beta world generation, with it's knife canyons and floating islands, overhang mountains that'd stretch for hundreds of blocks
Beta 1.7.3 is an amazing build on its own. This is great!
The Wendigos in The Fog are a lovely reference to Dusk!
This is one of the things that makes minecraft so great - it’s so easy to access older versions that you might prefer and mod the game to be whatever you want it to be
The second I saw the cyan rose, I knew this was the real deal. It made no sense but I loved that flower
I mean, ripping the most iconic enemy from DUSK sure is a move you CAN make. It is a bit lasy though.
i am not even joking i fucking screamed "COGS!" at 5:34 because the clip that played next has been in the back of my head my entire life especially lately after some redstone work that would've been better if I could USE WIRES or something
Man your videos gives me Nes, Atari nostalgia and especially not beta this is Indev Minecraft which i got hit Hard by so much Nostalgia
Not to mention *The Fog* also has herobrine attached to it
LOL that Aether mod menu theme is specifically the one from 1.7.3
Another thing that dovetails with Fear, I think, is old micecraft was _way_ more lethal than it is now. (And I think hunger was a major contributor to survivabiltiy.)
Also, fire.
The Dusk Wendigos are just. Such a good touch, and also horrific.
This channel has great editing and effects I was very surprised when I saw it had only 10k subscribers when it should have at least a million!
Pocket Edition also had that early version of the stonecutter with it’s own 2x2 crafting recipe.
6:04 The fact that the gears all turn in the same direction really grinds my gears
I knew you were gonna cover this one, this is honestly a really clever mod! Also, nice job on 10k guy :)
my first introduction to minecraft was pocket edition, so the cyan rose and nether reactor core hold a special place in my heart. I remember using the reactor core as a floor block in creative houses because I liked how cool it looked
this video really made me realise just how much I appreciate the old versions of minecraft
i still remember my first ever playthough on 1.5.2 i built a small cabin on an island next to shore so mobs wouldn't bother me
This video started my let’s play series of ReIndev a year ago this month!!!! Thank you chondo
its so cool to see you here!!! i cant remember if i've been in the comments, but i've actually checked out your series! did you see that the reindev nether update announcement is coming up?
also, not to bug you (because im in the same boat lol) but do you have plans for another episode soon?
@@binguschondo lowkey feeling starstruck with your reply- i watched this vid like 4 times over this year just because it would get me excited to make some videos surrounding ReIndev. So thank you for the kind words.
Yes!! I did see the nether update!! Sadly i won’t have a video out on release!! But i definitely want to cover all of the stuff included and i think the community surrounding every mod and update is amazing! Its rare we ever get consistent updates out of MC mods nowadays - in response to the new episode-> I am very happy you want to see a new one 😳) but between you and I….. I’ve been cooking something new up for next week
@@binguschondo you are not bugging me at all I’m so glad you want to see another hahaha. Same for you I’d love to see another really high quality ReIndev coverage video from you. Also your illustrative footage transitions are genuinely like the most engaging thing ever lol
@@CJ2CUTE thank you so much for the kind words!! i'm looking forward to whatever you've got coming out!! i've thought about starting up a reindev series as a way to give more coverage towards this wonderful project, but haven't been able to make a lot of time for youtube. i hope to see both of us with some great new videos here soon :)
@@binguschondo amazing!! Well I can’t wait to see whatever fantastic content you produce and yes same to you!! If you have any suggestions for what you might like to see in the series (reindev content or otherwise) let me know!! I’ve got lots of ideas but i think I’m definitely missing features like the aether- so much to do!!
As a person among the first who datamined Dusk's Wendigo back in days when only Episode 1 was out, seeing them in Minecraft is both surreal and VERY scary and also very personal, in a weird way
It’s coming for you in real life, too.
@@chrislaezur730 *brruuuhh*
The nether is immensely empty, the floating islands don't have much of anything outside of 5 items, and the underground feels rather empty (I've never encountered a hive/dungeon in survival...)
There's also the very... unusual paintings, which I can see being very off-putting to players that are more well-adjusted to society (to put it bluntly, people who aren't terminally online).
It has potential, I just hope the developers can utilize the potential. I'm do not believe that will happen in the near future however, as it seems all the development is focused on trivial aesthetic features instead of the core gameplay...
minecraft if it was made by twitter users
yeah as soon as I saw Astolfo.png it took me right out of the game
Love your videos so much! Been putting them on whenever I need something chill and wholesome in my life. Very excited for what you have next.
This would be completely overkill but I would love it
This video was great! Thanks for letting I as well as many others know about this mod. I'm totally gonna check this out for myself later.
Maybe alternate?
just you wait
Someone needs to port the beta world generation to the new versions of Minecraft and then we would all be complete! All the new features with superior world gen but keeping the depth with the original caves would be so cool!
THEY PUT THE VENDIGOS FROM DUSK???!
Making big changes such as this simply ruins the entire purpose of why we play old versions.
wtf is a bingus and/or chondo??
loved the vid, thanks for sharing this, I've been looking for something like this
