Thanks for posting a brief and to the point video on how to change the battery. No long introductions, no life story, just simple and direct instructions.
Fantastic - perfect voice for this, perfect description with pure professionalism . I changed my screen and also replaced the fading battery with a higher capacity 4500mAh thanks to you. Keep up the good work. - GC from Adelaide, Australia.
The tabs on the battery are there for a reason, you should never pry the battery out of an iPhone 6 Plus, as the battery will be damaged or bent. Just lift up the two black tabs on the battery, and pull them slowly outwards and they will stretch as they release from under the bottom of the battery, allowing the battery to be just lifted out with no effort. These tabs need to be renewed when replacing the battery. Do not use double sided tape, as when it comes to the next battery change, prying out the battery will be the only option, and may cause damage to the phone or components. Do the job properly, and make sure all the screws are located in the same hole they were removed from. Some are slightly longer than others, and if put into the wrong location, may cause damage to the logic board.
you just peel that black tab back (it's attached to the glue), and pull it straight away from the phone, like those 3M command strips i really wish i figured out this is what he meant before i started prying and heating and prying
Jerry, your UA-cam presentation gets referenced by sellers of iPhone batteries. I appreciate the iPhone 6 Plus kit I bought at Amazon. Took me 4 hours to swap out the defective (swollen) lithium battery. The included tools were a godsend. Sadly there were NO INSTRUCTIONS. I could not figure out where to put the blue phone-sized plastic sheet, so I left it out. Is it some kind of protective insert? Any ideas? Reassembly was a challenge. Teeny screws were hard to handle and find when they disappeared. I had to play and pause your video to recall the sequence. Your video gave me the courage to finally tackle a DIY challenge, a year after Apple offered to change my expanding battery for over $100. ~Allan (77 years old in Chelsea, MA)
Bought a battery replacement kit from Amazon and it linked me to this video for instructions! 😅 I should’ve known to look for a jerryrig video already!
I also used the pull tabs which made it easier to remove the old OEM battery. New kit also came with this glue tape. I was able to replace my mom's battery without any issues! She doesn't want a new phone and the only issue was the battery draining quickly. Now it is good as new for her. Thank you!
Just replaced my iPhone 6+ battery using this video. The pull-out tabs snapped on my battery then I got a nasty spark when I accidentally pierced it using a pry tool. Scary, but no harm done. Thanks Jerry, couldn't have done it without this.
Important to make sure the battery connector aligns with the socket before applying adhesive. Some batteries require that the ribbon connector has to be bent to draw the plug a little bit closer to the battery; this is true of the "Amazon's choice" Loctus battery. Suggest a "dry" run where the new battery is simply placed in the empty case and connected, ensuring fit and position. Thn disconnect and remove new battery; apply adhesive to back side of battery, then plug the connector into the socket once again before finally dropping battery with adhesive into the case.. guaranteed fit and placement.
I just followed the steps and I successfully replaced the battery! The reconnection of the screen cables were somewhat difficult. Had to try three times. But it was a happy end.
thanks to this i did my first repair, my vict... volunteer was my sister and it worked perfectly, I used school glue since it said acid free and so far its been ok. Thank you a bunch.
Your video was really helpful! I was able to remove the old battery without removing the screen and screen cables. Thanks alot for the help though! Highly recommended for all new installers!
I have seen several videos on how to remove the batteries on iPhones. I am still amazed that NOT ONE SINGLE PERSON - including the person in this video - understood how to remove the battery from the case. I know the following works because I removed the battery from an iPhone 6 using this method. Those two little tabs - clearly show in the video - are EXACTLY the same as the tabs on Command Strips. . . . . you grab the tab and SLOWLY pull on it. You might have to use tweezers to get the first grip. Lift it up and grab with your fingers. Pull and pull and pull SLOWLY . . . When one strip is done . . . then do the other one. . . . Just like a Command Strip . . . viola! The battery comes out cleanly and simply. NO battery damage from prying . . . NO case damage from prying . . .
Thanks, second time I've replaced an iPhone battery with the help of your videos! Always great - nice and fast too! The first hit video was 45m long. :)
Great Video! Take him serious when he mentioned to be careful not to cut the battery. I accidentally bent the battery as I was trying to get my plastic tool under it. Battery cover cracked, small electrical arcs from the battery to the metal body, followed by a tiny fire and smoke. Other than my accident it worked well. Also be sure you line up the battery correct when you put the new one in. I set the battery in a bit low so the ribbon connector didn't fully reach, had to move it up which was hard to do with the new glue. Learn from my mistakes.
Thank you for the video! I just got my battery replaced and was wondering how it was done. I would have been so scared something might go wrong if I tried to do it myself! My phone's battery was lasting an hour after a full charge so I'm excited to finally have a battery that will last through the day!
Perfect, many thanks. As advertised, I would suggest to anyone doing this to make sure they note which screws come from where (one or two are longer than the others) and you do it on a tray or white cloth...anything to arrest those bloody screws in the event of a "ping...oh crap" moment. Much appreciated, thanks again😁
Like how you casually but fast skipped past the acid part this video was short and very helpful that part scared me a little bit other than that thumbs up ! 👍
Before I declare a software problem my iPhone battery life shows 71 percent in my settings so I am changing my battery this morning because of unusual power drain, which my battery is junk so this should fix it. Thanks for the vid, Short, sweet and to the point, 2 thumbs up!!
What you're calling glue are tape strips and can be pulled out from the top from what I've seen in other video's pertaining to iPhone battery removal. Nice video overall.
JerryRigEverything if you're familiar with command strips, the adhesive for the battery functions exactly like that. No heat required. You can just pull the adhesive out from under the battery and it requires almost no force and no stress on the battery.
There are two screws that are different lengths from the rest and from each other. It would help to note which goes where. The long one is unambiguous, the medium one is the challenge. It goes on the upper left of the retainer plate shown in the video.
I want to thank you for all your help I did everything you said. it was one of the wires the one that Connects to the home button and on the top.. Now my iPhone 6 plus is working again..
Important things not mentioned: The phone has a sticky gasket around the perimeter that must be overcome. A replacement gasket is supplied in the kit. The old gasket must be removed entirely. Some screws are different sizes and go into specific places.
Thanks so much for your video, it really helped me changed my son’s battery, but instead of having 4 plugs for the screen, his iPhone 6S Plus only had 3 for some reason. But your video really helped, especially when it came to getting that Battery out using a heat gun and plastic tool. 👍👍👍
After using the heat gun and starting to pry the battery out - the brief comment on pulling the tabs at the bottom of the battery should be stressed. If you gently pull the tabs, you will stretch (very stretchy) out the white adhesive tape from behind the battery, the battery comes out without a heat gun or prying. A far safer method of removal.
No kidding!!! This guy needs to start over unhook the battery connection first then the screen, but you can change the battery without removing the screen
Thanks for posting this video. I’m going to be changing my battery within the next few days, and I’m so nervous! Lol. Definitely going to save this video to use when I’m changing the battery. Thank you!
Very much appreciate your efforts. Video was so helpful even this 69 y/o figured it out! The worse part was handling those itty bitty screws!😅 I Liked and Subscribed.
Thank you for this video.. I manage to do it super well with it.. You were right that the battery removal can get savage... It was for me.. It had even more glue than the one on this video.
Thanks "JerryRig" (catchy!!) for keeping your instructional video short and to the point. Easy to follow, includes the little tips for the idiosyncrasies of the iPhone, and saving my husband's sanity when he found out we could replace the battery and he wouldn't lose his precious iPhone 6 plus (I haven't told him yet that eventually Apple will some day stop supporting the 6, but at least this new battery will save it for the time being!)
Thanks, very helpful and concise! I did it without taking the screen off but prying the old battery out took a lot of time and effort! Will definitely try heating it the next time!
I also did it without taking the screen off. If you do not heat the back you could damage the rather thin metal housing. I have the luxury of being someone who 3D Prints so I have a heat gun for them my 3D Printer nozzle or heatbreak needs attention. Not everyone have a heat gun but a hair dryer will also work, just might take longer to heat it. BUT you should heat the back to make it a whole lot easier to remove. But do not overheat the back.
For those of you wondering if replacing the battery will help your phone, it will. Just replaced mine and it make a world of difference. It’s faster and stays charged for at least 2 days. Best $20 I’ve ever spent.
Do you need to condition the new battery ?charge fully and let run down 2/3 times?,also do you need to disconnect the batteries before talking the screw of??.thanak for the vid!!!
Thanks! Now we have a different problem. ever had the screen go black and stay black after replacing the battery? It glows but nothing comes on the screen.
I tried removing it and I ended up cutting into the battery. I was very careful, I didn't see any signs that I cut it, then the battery caught on fire. Phone is ruined, Lithium burns really hot. I really took my time with it. Good video, just be very very careful and be prepared if it turns into an instant fire. It caught me off guard.
Took my working iPhone 6s+ into the Lehi Utah, Store#: 848 for a simple battery replacement. Phone was completely functional prior to taking it in, the battery just wasn't lasting as long as it used to. I pick up the phone and he indicated that the repair did not go well. It didn't appear to hold a charge. He mentioned that I could take it home and see if it would charge up over the weekend. I took the phone home and it would not take a charge, it would not connect to iTunes, basically it seemed like the port no longer worked. I took the phone back into them on Monday to give them the update and see what they were going to do. We sat down and had a very heated conversation as he said that he couldn't take my word that it was working before the repair, that I was likely trying to scam him. Despite the fact that they did an intake test that showed everything working on the phone including that it took a 1% charge before they took it off the charger to replace the battery. "I'm not calling you a liar, but I can't trust anything any customer tells me", that was his mantra. I'm not calling you a liar, but you're a liar. He was 100% certain that he couldn't possibly have broken my phone, despite the fact that I know it worked before I brought it in, and despite the fact that it passed their intake exam. He refused to put the old battery back in to test and see if that worked. He refused to do any additional work on it saying that he already tried 3 different batteries and he also tried replacing the port. His only response was to send me off to someone else to repair the phone at whatever cost they incurred. Or he could give me a refund for the repair and ignore the fact that he broke my perfectly working phone that simply needed a battery replacement. DO NOT use Batteries Plus for anything. They are clearly not competent to do the work, and they will refuse to accept any responsibility for the damage they cause in the process.
It would be better if you warn more about the fire hazard... I was following your instructions when... suddenly it began to emit smoke... it took me 5 seconds to throw it outside my front door, then it burst into flames... my sim card was even melted into the slot. While surprisingly... the phone is still working ok after I put the new battery in! A little scared to charge it though...
Thanks for this! I purchased a battery and toolkit to fix my 6S Plus from iFixit which was great, but their video only shows up to the point when the battery is connected again. Then "follow the steps in reverse"! That wasn't cutting it for me so I appreciate you did the forward process all the way through. Good job!
Oh and a PS - Make SURE that your batter is run down to 20% or lower power before starting!! I also appreciated that you showed that it was OK to turn on the phone and check the screen BEFORE putting it all back together, and the importance of turning it off again before finishing up the replacement. Nice tips & tricks. Wish I had seen the one about slightly heating up the back of the phone to loosen the adhesive. One of my strips broke off (of course the deepest one) and I had to use a plastic credit card to work the battery up from the last piece of sticky tape.
His comment about the battery 'strips' MUST be heeded. Check other videos, you peel those two black tabs on the end up and then pull on them. They stretch like taffy but they come right off, no prying. In fact if you do it that way you don't even need to disconnect the screen cable connectors, just don't lift it back more than 90° and keep a firm grip on the phone.
Thanks for posting a brief and to the point video on how to change the battery. No long introductions, no life story, just simple and direct instructions.
Totally agree
Thank you for not posting a 15 minute video about this. This was the perfect pace for this type of video.
Heck ya! Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it.
Do you loose any info or data when replacing battery?
Mitchell DeVaughn no, nothing at all.

Bout to give this ago...🙏🏾For this‼️
you can pull out the battery by using the adhesive pull tabs at the bottom of the battery instead of heating up the phone and prying the battery out.
This was so much more simple lol thanks
Alex Wolfe wish I read the comments before removing battery.
Alex Wolfe what do you mean?
you just peel that black tab back (it's attached to the glue), and pull it straight away from the phone, like those 3M command strips

2 hours of suffering, nervous, agonia, thoughts that I'll never switch on my telephone again...

Thank you so much for posting a "hair dryer and pry" version! My tapes all broke and had to do it this way. Very helpful!

Perfect. Just what I needed to help me change my battery. Thanks so much for posting this no nonsense video.
Thank you, I was able to change my iPhone 6+ battery because of you!!!!!! I do appreciate it!!!
Followed the video and it worked great. A lot easier then I thought it would be. I didn't have a heat gun, so I used a candle.
I like your voice. Cool and calm instructions.
Worked perfectly, very easy to follow, especially with the added tips about pulling the tape vs heating the adhesive.
Excellent thanks it’s very good information thanks 🙏🌹👋🌹🙏
Thank you for this video. Got my replacement battery today and I will be able to do it with your help 🙏🏼😊

Please for the love of god disconnect the battery first please before removing the display flexes.

No kidding!!! This guy needs to start over unhook the battery connection first then the screen, but you can change the battery without removing the screen
Thanks! Just replaced my daughters phone battery all by my self! So stoked!
This was awesome. Just replaced battery and charging port on phone, Feeling Powerful!

Thank you so much. You did a great job with assisting people for this.... Regards pal...

Thanks Man! worked perfect, wifey did assist which was a great help.
Worked perfectly, followed the tip about the tape strip pulls instead of heating
Very much appreciate your efforts. Video was so helpful even this 69 y/o figured it out! The worse part was handling those itty bitty screws!😅 I Liked and Subscribed.
I appreciate your great 'very explainable' instructions!!! :)
Hey, what do you recommend after replacing the battery; charge it to 100 or let it drain to 0?
You make it look easy. Great Job.
thank you very much
this help me to repair my iPhone in this lockdown 😍😍😍
Thank you for this video.. I manage to do it super well with it.. You were right that the battery removal can get savage... It was for me.. It had even more glue than the one on this video.

Thank you, very short and precise video. Outstanding!
thank you sm i want to use my iphone 6 plus again as my back up phone but only for the camera lol but this really helps !

Very easy to understand your videos thanks
Motabbir Hussain No problem! Thanks for watching my video!
All fixed, Thanx for tha help BRUDDA!!
Thanks bro, really need this after a year I think I will need to change the battery before I give my i6plus to a relative.
Hanspotatoes Nice! Glad I could help!
Why did you not show pulling the adhesive strips out from the battery from the bottom end? I destroyed my old battery following your directions.
Thank You
This was a great video. Saved my life :)
Perfection! I did just as you said and it worked like a charm. Thank you.
You should make a video showing how to change the memory part, so if someone has 16gb the can change it to a 64 or 128
Carlos Acuna there's no memory part it's all internal
From what I know, you can’t do that as the memory is id’d to the phone itself
And won’t accept anything else
@@runforitman it is possible today in 2019 😄
You can do it, however it does require rebailling the memory nano card, applying thermal paste and you will need additional quipment
