    The most amazing thing is that two people with cell phone cameras actually took their videos in landscape mode. Kudos.

    • @cpufrost
      @cpufrost 7 місяців тому +53

      The original video was in fact portrait. It has been zoomed and cropped hence it's nearly potato quality.
      People are never going to stop holding phones vertical. The solution is to capture landscape regardless of how the phone is held. All phones now how enough resolution to do this.

    • @GungaLaGunga
      @GungaLaGunga 7 місяців тому +20

      Agreed the portrait mode is so annoying the way idiots use it waaay too much. There's a reason having to do with composition in photography. Human eyes are side by side, not on top of each other. Imagine having to watch movies and shows in portrait mode on your big screen tv. I call it moron mode, tiny little view using only one third of the screen, in LOWER resolution. But no one cares anymore about craft or using things correctly any more. But so is everything about The Worst Generations. Post nihilism nit wit Brave New World. lol

      @@GungaLaGunga Smart phones are designed to be held vertically. That IS the correct way to hold them. It's easier and more natural to hold it as such, hence a lot of people recording vertically. Blame the manufacturer not the user.

      Yep! Had the experience being the driver of a fully loaded pumper that slid during an ice storm (to the point nobody could stand upright on pavement that was angled) and it’s a “skivvy-change-necessary” incident for sure. Luckily no one was hurt and one of the local public works salt trucks bailed us off the road. What normally would take us 20 mins on a dry day took over an hour and 45 mins to return to quarters. No damage to the rig or my guys so def a win. Drove them for almost 40 years and I remember that incident and details like it was yesterday. One of “those” moments in your career. IYKYK 😳

      @billyturner2396 actually he did. I drive trucks. We are trained in skid reactions to gain control , they typically spray down the pavement with water and add oil and we go into a skid at the traing complex at that point we are trained to steer into the direction the rear is sliding and that's exactly what he did. Now this was a little more complicated as they don't trained you skidding down hill but he still turned his steering wheel in the direction of the rear of the trucks skidding path in this case he turned the stiring wheel to the right as you can clearly see the front wheels do. He's a professional

    The residential roads in the St. Louis area were like an ice rink. I stayed put Monday morning. The fire truck went out on a call without triple tire chains. The Onspot automatic tire chain system that many fire trucks use is not effective on pure ice. The driver was just along for the ride. He had no control of the fire truck as the video shows.

    I don't blame the chief for trying to say his driver did a good job. But truth is, he was probably going too fast for vehicle weight and conditions. He correctly turned into the spin at first, but he held it there throughout the spin (probably didn't hurt though since he was on ice). The rotation looked consistently around the truck's CG so I say it was just physics taking over, and lucky the car and grass stopped it from going through that house.

    As a firefighter who has driven such apparatæ, why no chains? Chains cahelp greatly in such conditions. The street may appear only wet, but outside temperature in the area should be known.
    So you approach such downgrades very carefully. At 1 mph the truck may still have slidden and picked up speed.

So it’s not a matter of if not for the blue car the fire truck would’ve hit the house. It’s if not for the blue car there’s no need for the emergency response … and well they did knock it off the electrical box!

    On a serious note: The blue car is also the unsung hero. Thanks to the other camera angle, watching the firetrucks trajectory coupled with coming in too hot would have totaled the garage, compromising the structural integrity of the home had the car been stuck anywhere else on the property. Although, unconventional, it did move the car from the spot it was stuck. 🚒💫🚙

    Just because it’s emergency doesn’t mean for responders need to go as fast as they can. Weather plays a part of it. And road conditions does not make emergency cruise immune to the driving ability. This is 100% fail on the department and pure ignorance of the driver putting public safety officials and the residence at danger! Complete ignorance all around! I hope they get sued for negligence of public safety! Because that’s what it was! If it was someone from the general public, they would be charged to the full extent by the law!

      It did look to me as though they were going pretty fast over that hill. Though I can't tell if it was from inertia in such a large vehicle with no traction due to the icy roads, or if they may have been driving somewhat recklessly.
      It's easy to assume that since you're in a large vehicle you'll have better control on ice or wet pavement than if you were in a tiny sedan or muscle car.
