Great Lesson from Rick. Many people think, that Status Quo aren't that talented 'cause their songs are quite simple ("three chord songs"), but Rick was one of the best Rhythm Guitar Players of the country (Great Britain). Francis Rossi also had his unique skills, especially when they played their guitar soli. I saw them live eleven times 🤘🏻🙌🏼
And that is the difference between “they only played 3 chords” and “THEY ONLY PLAYED THREE CHORDS?!?!” - the musicality and nuance he displayed here is impressive. What a servant he was. ❤
What a nice man. Even if you didn’t know who Quo were or anything about guitars or music, Ricks personality comes over in spades here. A diamond bloke. 1:13
He was a very special rhythm player. A good rhythm is so so underrated and so much a fundamental part of making a band sound great. Lead players come second in my book
@@rogerchanning without Parfitt ,Lancaster and Coghlan in the Engine room Quo wouldn’t of been anything to write home about ..but thank god they were ..
Hi Rick, With diminished chords the chord can be any one of the 4 notes played as I'm sure you know but to find the one in the key being played is to find the one with the key note in 1st position It doesn't matter really as you guys have made great sounds and entertained the masses for so many years Regards Phil Cose ( Formerly of Oxford)
@@boldfella8199 Er, not quite. JF wrote the song but his was a three chord song in the key of D. Status Quo played their different version in the key of C, and added various chords including the diminished chords in various places and an E-flat major in the outro. In other words: the renditions are far from identical.
Damn he’s missed so bad. 😞. Was extremely fortunate in the 80’s to b taken as a little boy to the old Wembley and was fairly near the front. In the army now was by far the best tune that night with all the Pyrotechnics and wot not going on. I kid u not, I was practically deaf for 3 days afterwards and would shout everytime I spoke. My mum wasn’t impressed by that when I got home after the show at around 12-1am. Also seen them twice at Rochester castle which was fantastic all the same. Still have the program from the 80’s Wembley concert. Has the two tele’s standing leaning on one another.
This is an old post, but I'm just relearning it for a gig. He says 'diminished chord', and he means F# dim, but then he demonstrates F/F#. You can see that he slides his first finger up one fret from F to F#. You can hear the octave of C on the first string, though, which is cool! : )
You know a strange thing? When I watch the clips that Rick did of how to play various chords and Quo methodology, when he plays the way he does in this clip I feel like I’m ready to get into it even though it’s only a couple of moments he’s playing! Quo had something. Rick had something. Something that just makes your head start moving and your shoulders start going in a way that few other bands can do. I’m not comparing them to anybody, I’m just saying that whatever “it” is, they’ve got it.
No it's parfait, it means it has layers because not everyone likes onions. You never hear nobody say "I don't like me parfait" - Ogres, of course, are like onions.
I love that diminished chord …. It just works so well with the other chords as rick demonstrates. Does anybody know if this was in the original written by John Fogerty or was this added by the boys in Quo? RIP rick.
This was probably added by Status Quo - JCF's (first original album)version also contains some "stop-parts", but these don't sound like their containing thess parts with the low E and then C bass note or the diminshed one.
@@61st-highland-anti-tank I remember seeing John Fogerty in Melbourne Australia in the 90's... he introduced Rockin all over the world as...
