France arguably still uses the Alpha Jet as it is what the Patrouille de France is flying

Fun fact, the first time I knew about the Alpha Jet it was in a card game back in the 1980s. In Spain there were a series of thematic card decks with a picture and stats, usually of vehicles. This one was called "Aviones de combate" (combat planes).

France has replaced its alphajet for PC-21 in the training role but the escadron 3/8 côte d or still use around 70 of them as aggressors as well as to tow targets for air to air gun and missile training.
Note the France version has 4x 500 pounders or 4x SAMP 250kg stock
As does the German version, my first few games I didn't even realise, I thought they were locked behind the 25C modifications until I created a loadout and noticed the x4 on the 500lbs and 250kg bombs.
Tim sort of glosses over the cannon difference between the German and French versions:
The German one (featured here) uses a BK27 27mm cannon, which shoots straight but seems to not have a lot of filler for damage.
The French one, on the other hand, uses the 30mm DEFA. DEFAs have much worse ballistics, but can reliably rip targets apart once you do connect.

@@kylebrady969no, it's because of its gun performance. Gripen and Tornado ADV also suffers from this, you need to shoot a lot of Mauser to really disable enemy, while DEFA/ADEN can just simply tapping them because of higher calibre.
I think Mauser Cannon shines the most in the Tornado IDS because it had two cannon instead of two.
@@muhamadafrifauzi5695 150 rounds is simply not enough enough for a gun this weak though. Its a frustrating experience because you just dont have the ammo to be effective. At best you'll get 1 kill a sortie maybe 2 if you are lucky.

I really love playing light attackers and trainers in game. I do kinda wish that it had its AAMs in game just to give it more flexibility as it would be a half decent dogfighter even with older sidewinders or magic 1s
I'm glad it doesn't. At least at 8.7. Most things at that br don't have aam or flares anyway. Nothing wrong with some more good gunfighters.
@@bradenhagen7977 certainly doesn’t need them at that BR, though at 9.0 or up it would be more important.
@@bradenhagen7977 Yeah but its inferior to other gunfighters. Its guns are weak (especially the German) its slow, its fragile, and frankly its not that great a strike aircraft either. I think missile would make it more competitive. Again AIM-9Bs are pretty bad, I'd still rather a GOOD gunfighter like the LIM-5 or G91R3 than a bad plane with bad missiles.
I like trainers, but if I gotta be honest all of them are always going to fall short to the L39 to me, its just so iconic and pretty

It's really nice that Germany finally has something something like this for CAS at that BR but the thing that kills it for me is the gun, it never gives me any confidence when it comes to engage other planes
Maybe it could gain access to extra gun pods (with ground belts) in the outer pilons, leaving free the remaining 2 for carrying x4 250kg bombs but idk if that's dreaming too much as it's kind of good already, at least for its BR
I think I do prefer the history part in the front, I think the pacing works better like that.
This jet just looks german tbh. Even without paint, it has the classic UNNECESSARILY HUGE VERTICAL STABILISER like on the tornado
It isnt that huge, just the plane is small
I’m asking for more work but adding in a picture or two of any mentioned vehicle would be pretty rad for a guy who doesn’t know every plane ever made

That's .. not accurate at all.
The French version gets a Defa in the centerline pod, not a Bk-27, and doesn't get any guided missiles of any kind.

I think the SAMP bombs are better then the American ones. It uses TNT as fillery but has a higher blast radius and was easier to get kills with. Also as grinder, it can take out bases with rocket pods.

il be taking my german variant into Sim battles where i can sneak around at this BR. and just farm ground targets & bases.
DEFAs are infinitely better than the BK27 in a dogfight scenario even if you take only 1 or 2 of em
I agree. I have been removing the underbelly cannon which weighs a lot hilariously enough and put two wing pylons cannons.
I do exactly the same. For some reason the underbelly pod causes an 18 mph speed loss and 13.5 m/s climb drop, while the two wing pods only drop speed by 0.5 mph and climb by 3.5 m/s…

Set those babies to 600 convergence too, at least for me that's what I use on the DEFA and works best for me, haven't unlocked alpha to try it out yet but it was painful to see that vautour pull into a climb to try and avoid being hit.. 🫣

Bombs are bugged as of the most recent major update. I've been getting "hits" with 12000lb bomb within 10m

Probably down to it having countermeasures unlike the french one & CM is especially important in all modes as you can defend yourself from SAM's & AAM's.

@ObusPerduYT That's up to the player I guess, If you think you can shake missile armament then go ahead with the extra firepower.
From 8.3 - 9.7 you can meet R511, R-60, R-13M1, R-3R, AIM-9B/E/J's, R-3S, Shafiri I/II, iirc AIM-9D/G's & SRAAM's.
IMHO I would take CM over cannons but that's just me.

Watched just 50 secs but also the french one get gun-pods I think they wanted something special
The counter measure on the German Alpha are not as great as narrator makes out. First I only seem them on over-tier matches and then again not all of them. Most of the enemies you might are Korean War Era. Second the planes that do get missiles are stuck with AIM-9Bs and R-3R/S which you do not need a countermeasure to avoid. Frankly the French Alpha's gun pods are more useful.
One thing you didnt mention is the French Aden 30mm is far better than the German 27mm Mauser which is one of the worse guns on the German tech tree. Its ROF is slow and it has NO hitting power especially with only 150 rounds. So the Alpha-E has a better gun AND it has more of them if you take gun pods.
The German Alpha-A is frankly not very fun in Air battles. There is better at this B.R. The LIM-5, the F-84, the CL-13-5, ME-163 and even the MIG-15 at 8.3.
I dont have any German tanks at 8.7 but this is really a Ground War airplane
The Alphajet can carry AIM-9 or Magic II. If I were Gaijin I would allow the Alpha to carry AIM-9Bs to make it slightly more competitive because it pretty much sucks in everything else.
