Hey Balkan, I’ve been following your tutorials for a while now, And some have been great but with this one for example I would just like to see a little bit more of attention and polishing to the joints, finishes and details for the construction of the roof.

Why did you not use reference planes for the rafters? I use it al the time and i makes getting the right angle very easy. Also the beam at 10:00 can just be done with a normal beam with a cut at both ends, so you can have an accurate schedule

This video is just about "how u can make that" and "not the right way to make that", right ?Because, have several details in a roof like this, is not just so simple like u show...

  • @kanders94
    @kanders94 6 років тому +13

Agin model in place? That is the worst thing you can do in BIM!! Nex video make about how you can schedule this? lenghts for elements and element marks? If you do it like this you lose all purpose of BIM, if you can't schedule what you have drawn. It is only good for visual purpose, nothing more.
For collar ties you can just create a beam and reference plane for the sloped end, and then just cut the end.

Model-in place is in Revit for a reason, you use it for one off project design's, I'm sure if he was planning on scheduling what he has drawn then he would have done it differently so instead of criticising, how about you make your own video?

    • @paolapagano3525

I agree with Davis, Revit most important feature is "information" not just "nice looking". for nice looking we have other software. The chritisism is for growing up Balkan Architect should take it like this and try to be better from all the ideas we share. Thank you Davis and Thank your Balkan architect, I expect from you your next video.

What do i do to have it like yours?

I think faster to do wood profile family on a base of steel profile to use new steel button.
With standart wood profile new steel connections doesnt work.
Model In-Place it is worst idea to do roof constructions. Unless you make a picture and the number of bars you do not need.

Wow!!! I understand that this is for you some way to make some money on the side, but lately you're adding way too many ads to your videos. And get interrupted constantly so people will lost track of your explanations, so will be hard for them to learn....just a word of advise

Hello Balkan, my name is Jorge and I am on my last year of architecture's master in Turin. I was wondering if you could give me some pieces of advice with my final thesis or rather suggest me some examples for my thesis (always using BIM Revit). I will be very pleased if you could answer me. Thank you in advance.

Hello! Why you dont use axes when you copy elements/groups? (You trying to find center of elements) This is just the main purpose of axes!
Anyway, please, keep going on. I'm now not afraid revit whaching your videos. And made some projects in revit. Before I worked in Archicad only.

@@AussieBIMGuru that's why I was having my doubts... My field is more about topography, and from the couple of tutorials I have seen from him (like localisation, using of shared coordinates and such) the approach is very loose, a bit "how are you doing" with a lot of "moving by hand" stuff which is absolutely not the right thing to do if you want to keep your project referenced...

@@trollenz I always aim to gear my tutorials this way - there are best practices vs. half measure workflows. Balkan has just finished his studies, so whilst he has done an amazing job at introducing many people to Revit at a fundamental level, professionally he will learn a lot more (and hopefully bring it back to his channel).
I began my channel as I noticed the lack of content being shared for free by professionals to help students and other professionals learn best practices - many such as Balkan have tried to fill this gap, but as you noticed it isn't always reflecting best practices (moreso an experimental take on the workflow).
I have a few videos on my channel which cover DWG survey alignment and shared coordinate workflows, hope they help:

@@AussieBIMGuru true, being one of the few subjects I'm actually good at... Just the fact of the default "center to center" import in Revit says it all... I've worked with a lot of architects and I can say that most of them truly don't have a clue about how to use these tools... They're all about BIM and stuff, but as soon as they open a point cloud or any kind of survey they always end up moving everything by hand or rotating it all over the place... Maybe they secretly expect earth to move around their project ;-)
Pretty nice high end content you have there, you just got yourself a new subscriber. Thanks.
