hes an outcast and was not invited so he kills other people. thats just crazy. some people just cant handle and take rejection. so many dance halls in los angles. its like hes never been rejected before . who hasnt been rejected .
The guy that chose to intervene is a hero. He may not have prevented the massacre, but he likely saved many lives that would otherwise have been taken. But in terms of the typical age profile of mass shooters, someone at that age committing such an atrocity is extremely rare. It's normally a teen to 25-year-old disturbed male that feels resentful with life and wants an outlet to make a name for themselves. And given the CNY festivities, the perpetrator likely orchestrated this well in advance.
Not long ago, the 626 was a crime riddled war zone. Who remembers Summer Madness? Rampant Home Invasions? Folks getting popped at stop lights or random freeway shootings? Couldn't go out to some areas bc the the local gangs would trip and hit me up.... Since they couldn't figure whether I was Mexican or Asian. --- it wasn't too long ago. If you ask older LA natives, they still have that stereotype of various areas of the 626 being dangerous. --- This might hit different bc it's an dude in his 70's though... But some of the most cold-hearted cats are the uncles who've seen real wars and 3rd world style violence.
That’s the culture I grew up with in the 626. There also seemed to be a lot of Asian on Asian shootings. And I always thought MPK was one of the hotspots for that. Anybody remember WaChing, Viet boyz, and United Bamboo? As a teen I used to always live with caution and a little bit of fear. So when they say that this community never saw guns and something like this was inconceivable…. I was like 🤔
the guy in the hat was on point - the younger generation of Asians must take the initiative to normalizes talking about mental health in our communities.
You guys made a fresh and legitimate point that I haven't heard before. You said this kind of stuff is part of America. It is expected. The structures are built in. Anyone can get angry and pick up a weapon. Not just young white males. I'm grateful that my parents moved us to Canada instead of the States in retrospect.
@@timchen2550 Yeah, I know right. That's one. When we look at the stats of both countries. Canada only has a fraction of America. With the US, every few days there's a thing. In Chicago, where this sort of thing is common occurrence, some of them don't even make it to the news.
This is 7 miles from our front door. We were gonna go to Alhambra on Saturday, but it was a long day and figured we'd just go Sunday. Sigh. We barely had time to process Monterey Park when news of Half Moon Bay came in. This is the darkest timeline. Stay strong.
in the hmong community we have similar but different incidences. but often very common in tradgey. i’m referring to family suicide. often it’s a parent who has most of their problems tied to their partner and tied to their family. from what trends say it’s often violence directed at the partner first, and then trickles down to surviving family members as a list of people before the perpetrator ends their own life. there’s been a few in the last few years i the hmong community. but from what i know, this has happened as early as 2-3 decades ago. turned out my moms brother had a family, went wild and ended everyone in his family at home except for a daughter and a son who was in the military not home during the incident. he went back home to burry everyone but his youngest sister. never got to meet them as far as i know. but yeah… asians do things different than others from what i see
Thank you for addressing this matter. It is a major issue especially those older generations whose trying to balance between cultures and traditions living in America. Mental issue plays a big part. Sad to hear. Hope for the better new year and happy new year to everyone. Condolences to the victims and their families.
there needs to be more done when it comes to mental illness when it comes to the asian communities and in every other community. i lost a few of my asian friends that were mentally ill. the brother of one of the guys that died told me that his father didn't believe in mental help or dealing with his sons depression. i get people want act strong but if someone is hurting they need to be able to get help without being judged. it's sad that these people had to lose their lives by a totally senseless act of violence. the only way to get gun laws in place is by dealing with the nra and voting out any and all politicians that don't want to do anything about the gun laws. the nra and many of the politicians on the right are pushing for more guns to be put out there and it's disgusting.
Some of the strictest gun laws were in place… the dude still got a hold of them. Also one thing to consider… now more than ever people are seeing therapists and psychiatrists, and taking medication to treat mental conditions….People weren’t doing that in the 50s and 60s, and people had a higher gun ownership rate back then… but mass shootings were non existent…. There is something else going on in this country… I can’t really put my finger on it, I have a feeling it has a lot to do with over prescription of meds…
I live on Garvey Ave, so this was about 1.3 miles from my home. If it can happen here, it can happen anywhere. It’s a fairly tight-knit, kind community. Heart-breaking. 😔
When you really think about it, it's not that surprising that it was an older Asian male. This particular demographic probably has it at the very worst right now in America. Asian males have always been valued quite low in Western Society and when you throw in no wife and old age it pretty much makes them worthless in the eyes of western society, I can't think of a particular demographic more ostracized and excluded in Western society than this. He obviously did this because he had nothing to lose & wanted others to feel his pain. Not saying that was rightful justification for his actions, but more into the psychotic reasoning for why he did what he did.
Yes and No. Partially due to his mental health, but you also got to look at the social politics of which he was a part of. Gossip bullying, ridicule, just what was going on between him and the instructors? Including the owners? What about the de-escalation from management to protect their patrons by reporting him to police or having some kind of intervention to address the "friction" that was spoken about. If he was causing problems there, like giving free lessons, how did that bear on the other instructors who were charging? Look around you, there are ticking time bombs walking behind you and to your left and right everyday. Practice diplomacy and put on that kind face, it just may save your life.
But also, actually show people some real love, because everyone is worthy of love and respect, especially the “unlovable”. People see through the kind face and it really doesn’t help
This sounds like it was a personal vendetta against the dance club and the patrons more than anything. So tragic that it got to this terrible conclusion
To define a new year's day, first we need to define the calendar. It's not a lunar calendar, it's the Chinese Agricultural Calendar (CAC), Aka Chinese traditional calendar, which is both a lunar and solar calendar. We call it 农历 or 旧历 in Chinese. CAC is the one that has been used for thousands of years. Western calendar was introduced to China only 200 years ago. We still use CAC in China, many national holiday date is determined by CAC, like 中秋,端午,重阳,春节,七夕,冬至. For the Chinese New Year, the lunar side of the calendar determines that this day happens on a new moon day, the solar side of the calendar determines that this day will roughly mark the beginning of spring, which is why it always happens in late January or early February, and that's why it's also called Spring Festival in China. In CAC, one year is divided into 24 portions in relation to the climate. The common thing about Japan, Korea, Vietnam is they all used Chinese as their writing language for more than a thousand years. Korea and Vietnam invented their own writing system in the last 200 years. Japan gradually developed their own language but they still use a lot of Chinese characters (Kanji). The traditional culture of Korea and Vietnam was from China. I don't think Korean still use traditional calendar, they celebrate the New Year from China just like they also celebrate Christmas from Western culture.
The best way to stop a bad guy with a gun, is a good guy with a gun. Instead, people rely on calling 911, and bleeding out while waiting 3 minutes for first responders to arrive. “bUt StRiCtEr gUn LaWs” am I right? 😂
The craziest thing is how did the shooter went from SGV to Torrance? I lived in the unincorporated area of LA County for 18 years and I go to Torrance visiting locations for idk reasons. Now it’s very unsettling. I pray to the victims who were involved in the shooting.
I think this mass shooting is stunning because it's Asian on Asian. Virginia Tech mass shooting (2007) was perpetrated by an Asian. You guys are right, there is mental disability in every culture. Another reason for humanity to pull together. Rest in peace to all the victims. God bless you guys for not shying away from the topic. We need to talk.
I could not forget the Virginia tech as well. Theres some revenge going on he says his doing it for his brothers and sisters that have hurt as if he's saying it for people like him not his race.
I'm a white guy, but I'm originally from Monterey Park This is supposed to be a safe place in LA! It makes me sad that many ppl aren't going think of MP / the SGV as safe anymore
Please put out some helplines numbers for people to call in case they need help to grieve. For example 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Maybe there are some local and national mental health care providers people can reach out to.
I grew up in the 626 in the 90s, other side in Hacienda Heights. I remember Asian gangs was a huge thing back then, is that not really a thing in the area any more? I remember I used to hear a lot about Asian on Asian shootings and I was always cautious and scared.
such an awful event and the fact that is happened right before lunar new year :( i live in the 626 so this hits too close to home. its insane how we have normalized gun violence in the US
This is why we all need to stay ARMED and be able to defend ourselves. This would've been over real quick if citizens can exercise their #2A rights in this communist state.
My doctor is few blocks away. This is too close to home. Horrible tragedy. The Asian community really needs to talk about mental health. Most of my Asian friends won't even go to a psychiatrist just to get accessed. This is culturally looked down on. I have mental health issues myself n have been in psychological and psychiatrist care since I was a teen. My friend thinks i should stop seeing a pysch. N instead of the medication, diet, excercise, meditation. That's very typical asian. I get it but there are many that need medical treatment. Psych meds are not a cure. I have 2 issues that i am going to live with n theirs no cure.. Thankfully I'm in treatment but I still have episodes. Even with meds.. If you suffer from mental issues .. getting diagnosed is 90%... then getting treatment. It took about 20 years to get a correct diagnosed. Before that I was diagnosed major depressive disorder.. All of my family over 65 years old are on Xanax or some meds for depression. This was preventable. N I've been to that area since college almost daily. RIP
I really agree with both of you guys, when you see the old man was jealous in this case , and didn’t care his life , Also seems he has PTSD ,but the way he used the gun so well and shoot so many people, he must be in army before . Prayers 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 rip for all victims 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Such sad and heart breaking news. My thoughts and prayers to the affected families and victims. This epidemic of mass shootings in America must end. Too easy to acquire firearms.
There needs to be tougher gun laws and loopholes that criminals like Huu Can Tran used to obtain illegal guns. The requirements aren’t as tough as buying from a store, if you buy a gun online, at a gun show, and someone could easily go out of state to Nevada. We need registration of gun ownership and must meet criminal background checks and mental health criteria to own a gun. Gun owners should carry insurance like drivers do.
I don't know why the news media didn't let Chief Jeremiah Hart, the Chief of the Torrance Police Department talk at the briefing. There were too many political people there speaking at the news conference. Hart's officers stopped the perp.

Dude did you forget the vegas shooter??? The shooting involving Acalise? Yep they were young men!
Scalise
Mental health it hate crimes
You guys made a fresh and legitimate point that I haven't heard before. You said this kind of stuff is part of America. It is expected. The structures are built in. Anyone can get angry and pick up a weapon. Not just young white males. I'm grateful that my parents moved us to Canada instead of the States in retrospect.
Canada had the Edmonton mass shooting where an Asian man killed 7 of his relatives including toddlers a few years ago…
@@timchen2550 Yeah, I know right. That's one. When we look at the stats of both countries. Canada only has a fraction of America. With the US, every few days there's a thing. In Chicago, where this sort of thing is common occurrence, some of them don't even make it to the news.
I was heart sick to hear of this senseless attack and my heart goes out to their families.
Prayers for the families that loss their loved ones.
So sad, condolences to the families of the victims in Monterey
My condolences to all who lost family And friends, this is sad
I used to dance in that area. Especially Alhambra. My prayers to the community.
Praying for comfort for the families. This is just shocking and devastating
Thanks for covering this topic. This is a very good perspective on the asian community.
This is 7 miles from our front door. We were gonna go to Alhambra on Saturday, but it was a long day and figured we'd just go Sunday. Sigh. We barely had time to process Monterey Park when news of Half Moon Bay came in. This is the darkest timeline. Stay strong.
in the hmong community we have similar but different incidences. but often very common in tradgey. i’m referring to family suicide. often it’s a parent who has most of their problems tied to their partner and tied to their family. from what trends say it’s often violence directed at the partner first, and then trickles down to surviving family members as a list of people before the perpetrator ends their own life. there’s been a few in the last few years i the hmong community. but from what i know, this has happened as early as 2-3 decades ago. turned out my moms brother had a family, went wild and ended everyone in his family at home except for a daughter and a son who was in the military not home during the incident. he went back home to burry everyone but his youngest sister. never got to meet them as far as i know. but yeah… asians do things different than others from what i see
The scenario you just shared has been repeated in countless other ethnicities in the USA.
Thank you for addressing this matter. It is a major issue especially those older generations whose trying to balance between cultures and traditions living in America. Mental issue plays a big part. Sad to hear. Hope for the better new year and happy new year to everyone. Condolences to the victims and their families.
Condolences 🙏.
My heart was heavy waking up reading about this tragedy
there needs to be more done when it comes to mental illness when it comes to the asian communities and in every other community. i lost a few of my asian friends that were mentally ill. the brother of one of the guys that died told me that his father didn't believe in mental help or dealing with his sons depression. i get people want act strong but if someone is hurting they need to be able to get help without being judged. it's sad that these people had to lose their lives by a totally senseless act of violence. the only way to get gun laws in place is by dealing with the nra and voting out any and all politicians that don't want to do anything about the gun laws. the nra and many of the politicians on the right are pushing for more guns to be put out there and it's disgusting.
I'm sorry to hear that this tragedy has happened to and within the Asian community.
This sounds like it was a personal vendetta against the dance club and the patrons more than anything. So tragic that it got to this terrible conclusion
More than one…
@@environmentalnews6040 The entire community of dance, perhaps.
This case sounds like domestic violence and has nothing to do with race.
RIP to the victims and prayers to the families
For once we can unapologetically say, "Let's Go Brandon!"

Innocent seniors getting shot is so fg messed up
The best way to stop a bad guy with a gun, is a good guy with a gun.
If it’s asian it usually is mental /persona;/ retaliation beefs/..
I could not forget the Virginia tech as well. Theres some revenge going on he says his doing it for his brothers and sisters that have hurt as if he's saying it for people like him not his race.
@@npcimknot958 stop making excuses. Every community has a propensity for violence and Asians are not exception.
I'm a white guy, but I'm originally from Monterey Park
This is supposed to be a safe place in LA! It makes me sad that many ppl aren't going think of MP / the SGV as safe anymore
Please put out some helplines numbers for people to call in case they need help to grieve. For example 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Maybe there are some local and national mental health care providers people can reach out to.
This Asian on Asian violence is getting out of control
I am so sad about the whole thing.
Ohh damn. That’s a city where I’m from
Toutes mes condoléances
The death toll went up to 11
I grew up in the 626 in the 90s, other side in Hacienda Heights. I remember Asian gangs was a huge thing back then, is that not really a thing in the area any more?
I remember I used to hear a lot about Asian on Asian shootings and I was always cautious and scared.
This is such tragic news.
I love Brandon Tsay. ❤ He is my hero
such an awful event and the fact that is happened right before lunar new year :( i live in the 626 so this hits too close to home. its insane how we have normalized gun violence in the US
This is why we all need to stay ARMED and be able to defend ourselves.
RIP
God bless Brandon Tsay and RIP to all the deciced in this, horrible event🙏

I really agree with both of you guys, when you see the old man was jealous in this case , and didn’t care his life , Also seems he has PTSD ,but the way he used the gun so well and shoot so many people, he must be in army before . Prayers 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 rip for all victims 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

@@npcimknot958 Do you think he knew right from wrong? Was it a conscious decision to commit mass murder?
Such sad and heart breaking news. My thoughts and prayers to the affected families and victims. This epidemic of mass shootings in America must end. Too easy to acquire firearms.
have you tried buying a gun in california?
@@basedviet Criminals have ways to bypass it. There are loopholes.
What do you think is the solution?
@@environmentalnews6040 you won’t like the answer
There needs to be tougher gun laws and loopholes that criminals like Huu Can Tran used to obtain illegal guns. The requirements aren’t as tough as buying from a store, if you buy a gun online, at a gun show, and someone could easily go out of state to Nevada. We need registration of gun ownership and must meet criminal background checks and mental health criteria to own a gun. Gun owners should carry insurance like drivers do.
This incident has me twisted! RIP
It's even more surprising that the shooter is in his seventies....What forced him to do this ?
The police have yet to find the “motive.” Someone thinks it’s because he didn’t get an invite to the Lunar New Year party.
let's do better. UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL!!!
I don't know why the news media didn't let Chief Jeremiah Hart, the Chief of the Torrance Police Department talk at the briefing. There were too many political people there speaking at the news conference. Hart's officers stopped the perp.
Bro there was just another shooting in the SF Bay area! and it was by another old asian man who then turned himself in.
