I find it very essential to store those tin cases standing up on 1 side. If you stack them up, people like me just go eh, amma just use whatever I can grab on the top. When I reorganized my drawers, I had them stand up and it made a huge difference for me. My storage tip will always be to put easy access on top priority. It's nice to store things compact, but never sacrifice easy access for that.

First of all, I have to send out a huge thank you for all the 'instruction' you give us in every one of your videos. I've learned, and started using no less, a lot of things from watching you, for both my coloured pencil colourings, as well as some things I've tried with my watercolours and acrylics.
Second, the ideas for storage....a life saver lol. I have zero spare room (I literally clear off a spot on my computer desk, which is thankfully huge, to colour on), and some of your ideas are easily modified for my tiny space. And a tiny budget :D

I just wanted you to know that you are a great artist and not only that, you are so well organised! I live in the Caribbean and getting supplies can be costly and sometimes difficult to ship. I wish that I could experience your work and other great artists like yourself in person. Nothing beats that. Nevertheless your videos and live stream are excellent and of top quality. Keep on doing what you're doing because you are affecting lives all over the world artistically in a positive way. Thank you Lisa.

You can use an empty box from a roll of aluminum foil, waxed paper, or plastic wrap to store your glassine roll. I put mine in a Reynolds Wrap box, because I got fed up with it rolling all over the place. It fit perfectly, and protects the roll. Bonus: These boxes have built in cutter edges. ☺

I have several orange tool boxes all the same size that I bought at Home Depot for under $10. I wrote in Black marker on the ends -- "Drawing" - "Oil" -- "Acrylic" -- "Watercolor" etc. --------- I also bought sketchbooks of the same type. I prefer the ring binding from Blicks -- and wrote the same titles on each. It's easy to store on a shelf, and makes the tool boxes & books portable quickly. --- Another tip is that I print in marker on my oil brushes "OIL" -- so that I don't mix them up with my Acrylic or water color brushes.-------- I saw you bought the large brushes. I went to Home Depot and bought their professional Paint brush in the Paint department. It makes it very easy to cover the Oil canvas -- or Acrylic with the first layers of underpainting. I have developed a lot of cool ideas for the studio --- Maybe I should write a book! LOL

The main bonus for me having a dedicated studio is that I don't have to put everything away when I'm done working for the night. When I had less space I painted less just because I didn't want to drag everything out and put it away after.

Wow. I live in a city with a ton of amazing architecture and a great art community, so I just take a small backpack with a GoPro, a Global case full of watercolor pencils (Faber-Castell), a waterbrush, and a pad of watercolor paper. Then I can spend two hours on a plein air painting, film it, record a voiceover at home, and then edit at the community tv station nearby.

Lisa, you see that gap between the pastel boxes because they have the those little feet, you must measure it and have pieces of MDF cut to fit in there. This will prevent each box not slide off from the one underneath.

I love how organised all your space is, mine is fairly organised, I have one of those large metal mechanics storage cupboards which has narrow drawers and two deeper drawers. The shallow drawers are perfect for all my trays of pastels, and the deeper drawers one for pan pastel trays, and watercolours and the other acrylics. I have one of those trolleys use use with the three trays which has all my alcohol inks in trays, my airbrush inks are in trays, along with my tins of Inktense and pastel pencils on a bookshelf then I have a big shelving system that has all my canvases, completed paintings ...and more storage boxes like your with bits and pieces. I really should make some of those felt bags ! Stop them getting damaged, I just have them wrapped in glassine.
You don’t realise how much storage you need when you use so many different mediums....now I have to have everything covered as our Ragdoll loves to chew my brushes oh I also have acrylic paints on a bookshelf with a timber strip hubby put across the front to stop them falling but kitty loves to chew the tubes ! It is his favourite room in the house as it has a huge window one end that overlooks the pool and backyard, and another window the other end also floor to ceiling ....I tried closing the door at night but he really hated it so I gave in and just cover everything over and he seems to leave it alone.....the things we do for our fur babies....but wow your art space is so much neater and better storage than mine...... Yours is awesome!! Love those boxes you keep finished art work in ....now you are in your new home your studio is stunning !! 💙💙💙😘

Lisa, thanks for the tour! Artist are a curious bunch aren’t we 😊. I have long admired your work and wanted to share one of my storage areas. We found a used architectural drawer system that now stores art work not on stretched canvas done in a variety of medium.
I approach local political organizations and asked for the plastic campaign signs that are no longer being used. These make great dividers after you spray them with cheap primer! As for barrier papers. Use painters tape to attach barrier paper to the renovated campaign signs. Also use washi tape and barrier paper to protect pages in my slower drying or tacky study journals. I made a STURDY wooden dowel rod rack that holds different types of paper and packaging supplies - craft brown, butcher, wax paper, parchment paper, glassine, etc. Hope this helps someone.

Instead of using glassine (sp?) in between your paper artwork have you thought of using the Krystal Seal Self sealing Photo bags? They say they are archival and come in a lot of sizes so no cutting up glassine and both sides are protected.

OMG what a genius idea with the handmade pillow cases for paintings! WOW! Thanks for sharing that tip! And also I have an old china cab I net that is filled with yarn right blow, because I also knit. That isnb’t all of it, bbut I am going to empty it braise it is in my art studio anyway, and put it all away in rubbbermaid bins and then I am going to the dollar store to bbut some of those plastic trays for my supplies. Another genius idea! I do more watercolor and pastel, than oil or acrylic and I am not to the end of the video so Iam hoping you have some genius storage solutions for those. A;though I usually just use the plastic bags for those paintings. But storing them is the hard part. Right now I am just using a cushioned lid bench to store them in. And I use Glycine for my pastel. But I need a better way to store them.
Okay now I am further into the video. Duh why didn’t I think of portfolios! HA! The paper I get is Glycine, which was suggested by my pastel instructor and I bought a huge roll on amazon. It is 36” wide by 20 yds. Right now it is $35 on amazon. I bought mine a couple years ago and have plenty left. I eouldn’t waste the money on the folded stuff.

I use a lot of Sterilite and Iris products; they are clear and most importantly Made in the USA. Have you considered the Iris Project Case? They have various sizes and are acid free. If nothing else your Eternity box might fit inside one, thus keeping it more securely. ;0) I do like Itoya Albums, I have various sizes for artwork, nature prints, postcards, and bookmarks. I also use a lot of Plano Stowaway boxes. They have multiple compartments and come with dividers for making more. I use them for small pieces and parts. One box has brushes and tools.

Hi Lisa, I *love* your videos. Seeing your Inktense sets in your IKEA chest of drawers makes me pause to ask: how do you resolve the non-lightfast qualities of this medium? I love the idea of Inktense because I love that they work on top of acrylic paint, but once I heard they faded from exposure to sunlight I got worried. What are workarounds to this?

Lisa, thank you so much for this video and all the others. I have learned so much for you.
I have two questions, if I may ask:
    1) Where do you get the glassine from? I've been trying to find some here in Germany but none of the art supply seem to carry it. I'd like to try oil pastels and I am pretty sure that placing paper towels between them will not cut it. I got a big roll of transparent paper, but that is not the same either, I believe.
    2) I *love* the idea with the felt pillow cases. Are you worried about some archival issues? I have been using bubble foil wrap for storing my acrylic and oil paintings, but I am really not happy about them, fearing that when I get them out of storage they might be imprinted with bubble texture.
Take care and keep on being great! :)

    • @Lachri

Can I use tracing paper or newsprint to place between artwork so it doesn't smudge?

You need to make sure that whatever you use is acid free so it doesn't yellow the work. The thing that makes glassine so great is that nothing will stick to it so you won't have pencil stick to it from one area then smear that pencil to another part of the piece if you move it.
