Engine bay is so clean on such an old car, amazing.
Best video clip of changing a air filter on Friday.
How do you clean your engine to look this good?
excellent video ... really helpful! Thanks!
Thanks mate.. 😮🎉
Hi. I've got the 1.8 version focus. In the air filter housing there is a sponge. Is that the Crankcase Breather? Because one of those clips broke and ive got rough idle, loss of power. Just not sure if it counts as a vaacum leak. Thank you.
No the sponge won't cause rough idle, but yes it is the pcv intake / crankcase breather sponge. The rough idle n loss of power will probably be caused by the pcv pipe which is located in the same place as shown in 1 of his other videos where it collapses.
But l would like to ask why it wasn't mentioned about replacing the sponge as his obviously needed changing due to the colour. By the way Craig l would like to say thanks for the pcv pipe video as it isn't/wasn't very well explained anywhere else as to where it's located just mentioned. I do a lot of my own repairs domes bit more in-depth than yours but l don't have the time or patience to set cameras up. So yes l think it's good what you have done 👍
@@Doggsbody1 how do i buy the sponge,?
Yea i would like to know also
What is a good way to clean the air filter? Just by tapping? A vacuum cleaner?
Hi, you did not mention the small sponge in the corner of the filter housing, whats that for.
It's a filter for the PCV system, don't worry about it unless it's obviously clogged up with oil or sludge, in which case you have worse problems.
@@CraigsDIY thanks for that, will check it out
@@CraigsDIY what does it mean? Mine has literally disintegrated with oil . And it seems like it’s leaking the box but not too much
Like your videos about focus.
Thank you man
I have a 2003 zx5 and the filter box won’t close all the way would this make me get bad gas mileage?
Only if unfiltered air gets past the filter :) Air at the filter box will be hotter than at the proper air inlet, so your performance might decrease if it's letting it too much air. But the filter is also there for a reason, so best to fix the problem. Make sure the filter itself is properly positioned, or replace it if it's damaged at the edges.
Hello. Where can you find new screws for the air filter top? I needs to be completely sealed and mines are corroded and cannot seal the top
Take them to a fittings hardware place and try to get replacements. If the female sides are corroded out too then try to clean them up with a wire brush, rust converter, and then use some anti-seize on the new bolts to keep them sealed up. If they're gone too to the point you can't tighten, you can probably replace them all with simple nuts and bolts.
Thank you!
I have a Ford Focus 2000 and everytime I start the car it always wants to shut down. I really don't know what the problem is.
I had the same problem, and the problem was a crack in the black kabel in the back down below. Yesterday it was replace and my car just run great now.
What was the name of the small square, spongy looking filter that was in a small recess at the top upper left corner of the air filter box? Should it be replaced?
It's there to filter oil from the crankcase vent that runs to it. No need to replace unless it's obviously old and failing (e.g. crumbly).
You forgot to replace the little black sponge at the top left.
yeah some manufacturer doesnt include that extra pcv filter.
Brands like Bosch, Mann filter does have them included.
@@scottykilmer3920 Original Ford has it.
i never bought the Oem filter, i dont know but Bosch or Mann always has it included.
