Wow I coulda had a V8!
Comming next to a dealer near you a quad turbo with duel super chargers and a floy floy. All, of course, controlled by the first quantum microcontroller in a car...YaY!
The Toyota Prius was the best sedan of all time. We don’t need turbo’s we just need aero dynamics and regenerative breaking. It’s not your 0-60 that matters it’s the. Comfort and the Mpg’s that matter. Can you get there safely , can you get there comfortably, can you get there affordably, did you feel good for having done it?
Ford is also patenting facial recognition, they need your biometrics just to start the car
I'm on my 3rd turbo charged vehicle. 1 F- 250. 1 150, and 1 Lincoln MKS. I sold the F-250 to my nephew at 375,000 miles and he's still driving it w/o issues. The Lincoln has 250k and the F-150 is currently just over 150k with just plugs, and oil changes on both. Brakes have been done once on the Lincoln. I love turbos and I'm not afraid of them Mr. Kilmer.
The engineers are dancing around regulations that won’t allow building simple and powerful engines.
True! Folks can scream about carburators and large engine bays, These manufacturers have to meet federal and State emission standards specially in CA, that's where the largest truck market is
CARB needs to be abolished.
@@hellodrjeckylDo you mean CAFE standards?
CAFE standards come from the NHTSA, although CARB rules don’t help and often set the bar for national standards. Scotty needs to raise the level of awareness of his viewers. It will help the national dialogue.
Not entirely. They keep trying to improve horsepower numbers every year while still meeting the standards.
Every time they have an option for a simple non-turbo engine, that’s what most educated people that care about longevity buy.
The new 7.3L Godzilla engine gets better mileage than my old 5.4L triton. Why can’t they make a 5.4L with the same architecture as the 7.3L to get even better mileage?
I have a 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis LS Premium Limited Edition with the tried and true 4.6L V8 engine. Surprisingly enough for a V8, I get over 26 miles a gallon on the highway in that big thing. It was my Great Grandmothers and she bought it brand new so i know its never been abused. Since i took charge of it, ive never had a single issue. Why can't we just go back to the reliability like these cars?
Greedy Manufacturers...
You can't beat the Panther platform!
Because there’s money in all this complexity
CAFE regulations mandating how far a car must go on a gallon a gasoline.
It is possible to get good gas mileage with a big v8 with an overdrive gear on the highway which utilizes the high torque of the engine. The engine turned over slower also. Those cars can go half a million miles without engine issues. The problem is the EPA doesn't like 26 mpg anymore.
I long for the days when you could get an old straight 6 non-turbo engine with a stick shift.
Hallelujah
I liked the straight 6 in my Jag XJ. Had an automatic and also the “J-gate” where you could shift it manually. Was fast. I totaled it going too fast.
my 2015 ford falcon FGX has a straight 6
Don't long for long. Prices are way down for used cars.
I feel like going out and getting a '72 Chevy pickup for a "new" truck. Or, how about an old Ford 100 with a 300 six?
my uncle is a heavy duty mechanic, failure analysis guy for a major heavy equipment company. he says everything done to engines today is because of emissions and not to make them better or more reliable.
No Thanks. I'm sticking with my V8. No stupid turbos required. 👍
But if you have more money than sense why not turbo the v8 amirite
If you compare the torque, efficiency, power per cubic centimeter of your V8 with the Renault 1.5 DCI with variable geometry turbo and no air obturator......you will laugh yourself at your own comment,i guarantee you that. I can shift all 6 steps of the gearbox without touching the accel pedal and the car runs smootly. Can you do that with you V8 ?
Ford 3.5 V6 is plenty powerful
@@jstravelers4094 3.5 v6 belong in a car man. A nice family sedan like a camry trd style. As much power okay but it needs a turbo to do it. Its like using a sedan engine to power a truck you out turbos on it to compensate but why not leave the turbos off and use the saved money adding back tbd 2 cylinders and keeping it naturally aspirated for reliability and torque at the same time
I said the same thing….and then my 5.0 burned two quarts of oil from the factory until I got rid of it with 15000 miles. Ford is a mess
Last week Mt View Ford in Chattanooga TN convinced my 81 year old Dad his 2005 F-250 with 68,000 miles on it that the ENTIRE BREAK SYSTEM was worn completely out.. Not thinking about it first he said fix it.... They charged him $5,000 🤬. Please help SPREAD THE WORD EVERYWHERE 🙏GOD HELP US 🙏🇺🇸

In your case, it might be worth taking them to SMALL CLAIMS COURT, (but first, HIRE A GOOD LAWYER),

Please tell your dad to never go to a dealer..there just waiting for someone who doesn't know much about cars..I could tell a few stories about my mom and her nightmare at the dealer..I had to rescue her few times ..she finally listened to me..I also worked on her cars ..
Totally agree with Scotty. Overcomplicating things will only destroy reliability
That has been my experience since the mid 1970's.
Before I bought my 2018 F-150 I made it a point to talk to some Ford mechanics. They all told me to go with the V8 Coyote as it was way easier to work on. Glad I listened to their advice.
My Ford F-150 has 239,000 plus miles.
I have a 2011 F-150 Platinum with the Coyote 5.0 V8! It’s been a great engine! Very reliable and good performance. Sounds better than the eco boost, too.
I own a car, the only thing that went bad was the AC after 11 years. (Honda Accord 2012 over 159.000)
Mazda tried that with the miller cycle back in the late 90s. All those vehicles are in the junkyard now.
Garrett has had a solution for turbo lag for almost 10 years now. An electric motor spins up the turbo in advance, when needed.
ford CEO has said a 4 door mustang sedan isnt out of the question. Ford is trying really hard to kill a brand for good.
Comes with 12 pack of bud light...lol
@@HANZELVANDERLAAY Does it need the extra tranny fluid?
They are working toward what Chrysler did with RAM. Mustang is going to be a brand, not a model. That's why they are now making a Mustang Suv and are releasing a truck next year - all electric. It's a marketing disaster that is engineered to ruin the Mustang name.
Mustang is a wild horse that should snort and go.
They should have went with the brand Stallion would have been cool with out ruining the Mustang name and is more often used in connection with trained horses used for studding. The masses would have loved and accepted it.
Might as we'll make a mustang minivan they won't sell either.....dumbasses
It would be a nice family car then !!!
Pretty soon all we can gonna be able to do is lease cars since they are getting to be so expensive and like you previously said repair bills are beginning to go out the window so a leased vehicles will always have warranty as well.
GM wiring has been cràp out of the factory since mid 2000's. Show me a GM truck that has functional DRL and tail lamps and it goes in the Peterson museum.
Bought my 2010 Silverado new, and haven’t had any problems with the lights since I drove it off the lot fourteen years ago.
Look going down the road. Guarantee 3 of 5 have a non op DRL. At night the curbside taillights are iffy at best. 3 new trucks and never, ever, was the problem solved.
Cheap telephone wiring for the chassis. It rots off at the connector on the rear crossmember

$300 a month for liability insurance, probably has a horrible driving record. That’s not the insurance company’s fault. He was stupid enough to drive through water that deep, after all.
I was going to say, I'm in the worse state for auto insurance and I pay less than $100 a month for full coverage with 250k/500k coverage.
@@RolaAddict I’m in NJ & pay $155/month for full coverage $500K/$1M on a 22 WRX. Which is more expensive than the 2020 Mustang GT I had before it.
Makes sense that he drove in high water
My 4dr Bronco with a 2.3 Eco Boost (and a manual transmission) feels plenty powerful and if it has any turbo Lag it doesn’t take away from the driving experience. Pretty sure it just has one turbo.

You are right Scotty: Good car is a simple car!
If he’s paying $300 a month for just liability insurance, he’s not telling the full story.
I wonder what his driving record is !!
Totally agree with you Scotty.
"K.i.s.s." principle.
the government is entirely to blame.
Yes!!!
Not enough people get pissed about this ... 100% FACT. ...thank you.
Perhaps the consumers are to blame
What is going on with American car manufacturers. They once made reliable cars that lasted years and hardly broke.
Haha when? They were always crappy
Regulations
Profit
The EPA and CARB happened, or as they call it, CAFE standards
Political agenda + EPA
I have two Fords with Ecoboost - 2013 F150 and a Ford Escape. Both are great vehicles. No engine problems.
I don't blame the manufacturers. I blame the government. You are angry at the wrong people in this instance.
💯% fact ! ... thanks.
They're in bed with each other
I congratulate Ford for producing the ultimate disposable vehicle.
Ford's been doing that for decades.
Are you slow ? Ford basically created cars . Ford is the best selling truck for decades .
Happy Memorial day to everyone who served our country! Also to the ones who gave their lives by making our country a better place to live👍👍
Thank you
My 2020 3.5l Ecoboost sounds like a jet. Drives like one without wings. There is no lag in mine. Works perfectly. Ford is nuts. There is times I wish I wouldn't get rear tire spen. Ruins the tires fast. Really, Ford. I only use normal mode when not hauling. That's crazy. Thanks.
If you don’t rotate your tires, they will wear out unevenly and make noise.
I’m 53 and back in the mid 80’s when I started driving my friends and I could work on any car in our driveway, brakes or engine work and within 10 min an oil change , back then any gas problem you could unclamp a fuel filter blow through it cleaning it and put it back and back in the road lol .. back then cars would last for ever parts were metal lol today parts are plastic even inside the engine is plastic parts lol …. Cars are disposable now especially electric cars they last 5 years for warranty then they all break it’s a cash cow market
People get the cars they pay for. People today don't work on their cars. Their only interest is how it looks
@@The_Ballo it is fear-based. Fear of washing the grease off. fear of shock from ignition. Fear of breaking a thousand dollar part.
Let them pay through the nose. Helps someone somewhere make a living off their hypocrisy. Gouge them good!
@@The_Ballo, my main interest is reliability, a great AC/Heating system and comfortable seating. I don’t need a lot of bells and whistles.
Agree with him on leases. I have always purchased, taken good care of my cars and had positive equity on trade. Leasing is short term gain for long term pain.
The interesting thing about the silicon board and electronics is if they simply used a good amount of conformal coating the water would have no effect.
But that is just like the underside of cars. They could spray a 20 dollar can of wool oil or two and save us thousands down the line, but they refuse to make reliable cars.
They want their cars to fail in the long term.
that doesn't help the connectors and external wiring, none of it is water proof in the sense of being submerged and it never will be due to costs.
@throttlebottle5906 Wires are already insulated and waterproof. You do not use bare wire. Even an electric motor has to be enameled. And copper doesn't rust.
Really the biggest problem would be the fuse box which you could isolate using gaskets that are pressure fit. But yes, a failure point in an older vehicle sure.
Problems have solutions, even if people like to be stubborn about them
When you have your product to the point where it works reliability, lasts a reasonable amount of time and is affordable, fire the engineer.
On wet electronics you would fully coat it in wd-40 to displace the water before applying power to it again (wd-40 is non-conductive). Heat will still leave moisture trapped under chips and smds.
The car manufacturers don’t want you to own your vehicles they want to control the industry from A to Z and hold the public hostage to them through leasing.

GM, Just build me a 1965 Chevy Nova with a 327 and I wi!! be pleased as punch😁
I have a 1998 Acura 3.0 CL. It still looks good and runs well. I realize I need to get a newer car but I’m afraid I won’t be able to get a car as reliable or long lasting. I want a simple car that will get me from point A to point B and last for years.
You won’t…
I don't think they sell those anymore.
Look at the price tag on a modern equivalent car, and I think you will discover the motivation to drop some dollars for parts and maintenance on your current ride.
The only way I would drop that car for something newer was if it was something I couldn't fix. I'm talking engine, transmission, or maybe rusted out unibody. Oherwise you're likely best off fixing the thing, it's a Honda, should be good for half a million miles if it's cared for.
They want a fortune for them, they won't last and cost a fortune to repair, no wonder why no one is buying
Scotty...I started watching 10 years ago. You have great content, you are candid, funny and informative. Thank you!
Almost every car manufacturer has had multiple recalls this year and last...I don't trust any of them, let alone any of them are putting "new" tech into their vehicles. On top of that, many of these designs are a decade or more behind what they actually COULD make - they've got new designs that they COULD make, but because it would cost more to update their manufacturing lines, they dole out improvements piecemeal. This is the same across every industry out there.
It takes a couple of years to convert over to a new engine design and get it approved by various government agencies. The reality is the government regulations put the Auto manufactorers in a very tight situation. They must meet mpg requirements, emmision requirements and CAFE standards while attempting to make a usable engine and vehicle.
I would never own a vehicle made after the 90's.
Scotty you are like me & want just a simple car gets you from a to b with minimal fuss. But that is not what sells cars these days, the young want all the fancy tech they can lay their hands on.
$300 a month for liability is NOT a scumbag insurance company. It is a very bad driver. Btw, the person selling that policy probably told them a dozen times it was liability only. No one is ever surprised at their coverage. They whine because they did not get enough or correct coverage.
Scotty, you're a financial genius.
Wheel bearing for tire noise, thank you for answering my question: So, I swapped the tires and I know, it was not a wheel bearing ready to fail.
Ive got a 230 inline 6 out of a c10 and no it aint the fastest but it hasnt failed me yet and i can fix it
The Chevy inline six is durable. All the U.S. straight sixes were dependable.
The Ford 300 straight 6 was the best motor Ford ever put into a truck.
The initial description of the valve timing sounded much like an Atkinson Cycle engine as used by Toyota hybrids
Miller Cycle supercharged engine was in the Mazda Millenia S
An engine scope with a USB cable to your laptop is probably the easiest and cheapest ways to check for a worn or carbed out engine. Just pull each sparkplug and scope the holes! 😁
When is enough enough with these new cars. They are expensive electronic piles of crap. Think what’s been done to the appliances and how they don’t last and what goes out on the electronics and they repairs are expensive
When people stop getting them and start driving exclusively old second hand vehicles. As long as people are willing to take out loans for garbage these companies have no reason to treat them like customers but instead to just look at them like cattle.
I would want reliable turbo with a slight lag rather than some complex turbo setup that will be unique and tough to fix.
Diesel enthusiast have ben using compound turbo systems for years now
I just seen an f150 and it said twin turbo on the tallgate
Ford's new twin-turbo engine. I look at it this way. Let other people buy them, and see how they hold up after 6 years.

My neighbour bought Silverado with the v-6 turdbo. Lol, he took it for a family camping trip, small pop-up trailer, not lot of weight. Blew the motor out 50 miles into the trip.

Was at a car dealership a few years back due to a recall notice on my vehicle (which is the only reason I would be at a car dealership). One of their franchises was Jaguar. An older customer was standing by me at the counter and we started talking about vehicles. I just rebuilt the 350 in my 79 Chevy truck. I believe I will keep it another 20 years !!
Pushing air seems to be the narrative of these auto executives.
They SHOULD be making engines that make great power WITHOUT a Turbo, like the Twin-cam 4-Valve Engine that was in the Taurus SHO. That was a great engine.
At 1:18 Ford is kind of late to the game Honda has a system like that called VTEC
VTEC isnt vvt, its variable valve LIFT. vvt is extremely common on most current engines
What you people don't understand is this is vvt synchronized with variable boost and multiple turbos. There's a lot that can go wrong here and the system will have to be able to auto tune and account for any degradation. Extremely complicated.
I have an 1 litre ecoboost Ford Fiesta. Direct injection and turbo makes it about 5 mpg more economical than the previous model I had (a 1.4 litre conventionally aspirated pre-inject). But the old engine was extremely rugged and reliable. The new one, I have serious doubts about, I think it could cost a lot more than the petrol (gas) money saved.
Ford announces that its bringing out the plates for the 1970 Ford F 100s and F250s . They will produce as many as the public wants at very affordable prices under 30 thousand dollars, even the 4x4 models will be under 30k. Thanks Ford ... thats the only announcement that i want to hear. Many engine choices to choose from ... 351, 360, 390 and bigger.
🧐 soooo are we getting rid of the EGR valves then?!
Scott, thank you for the for bringing up the lease comment. Is like making payments for life. Have a nice Memorial day weekend. Be bless.
Fyi in leasing you are paying for the time you have the car and depreciation. After the lease is up you can buy it for the balance owed. How is this any different than financing a new vehicle?
Hi Scotty, recently bought a 2019 Honda Ridgeline and a mechanic said the intermittent noise I am hearing somewhere ( top left front side ) of the truck was a VC modular is the culprit. Shouldn’t the diagnostic tool be able to pinpoint which modular is faulty?
2007 ford fusion SE 95,000 miles I’m the second owner. Drives pretty good
Before the pandemic we purchased a 2017 Ford Escape with the ecoboost motor. There was two recalls on the transmission which we had serviced and then shortly after the motor went out at 84,000 miles. Now Ford won’t even take it for a trade in, too much negative equity. We’re pretty much screwed paying this off with $8000 left. They said we could replace it with the same engine! Like wow really? That would be $4,800 with labor and used engine. So what to do, what to do. Any advice would be appreciated
Lemon law attorney. Find one. Check your state laws on lemon law.
Whaddayamean "back" into the combustion chamber? It didn't get there yet. Aren't they leaving the valve open just long enough to take advantage of the extra air from the turbo?
Extra air makes for better combustion/explosion. Gotta time the open/closing of valves properly to take advantage. Can’t leave ‘em open too long.
"We are gonna shift our main focus to bicycles."
you can't say this is new tech lol. Otta, Atkinson and Miller as pretty old stuff (especially the two first). Just like micro-chips and moores law, there are some tricks we kept on the shelf that will eventually be used. Although i find it cool making an engine that can switch between cycles (not sure if this will create reliability issues)
Once upon a time, a long time ago, I had a Series 2 Land Rover. It had no turbos, it had no computers, it just ran and ran no matter what. As it happened, it had water inside the cab, up to the dashboard, on more than one occasion, and in a Land Rover, that's high up. It didn't stop, it carried on, but I did stop as soon as possible. When I pulled the dip stick, white fluid came up out the dipstick tube. Not a huge problem, drained the oil (white fluid) out of the engine, changed the oil filter, and refilled with good clean oil. It carried on running. Have we really improved cars that much in the last 40 or 50 years? It was never a fast car, but it never had an engine warning light, so that never came on, and it didn't have a limp home mode, so that never happened. Oh, btw, I paid $1200 for it, used. Wish I could get another one now.
Instead of what sounds like a compound turbo setup, wouldn't 2 smaller turbos in parallel solve the issue?
That’s why I’m glad I got me a 96 f150 and a 2000 Harley electraglide standard. Nothing exceptional on either one, just good strong working vehicles. Not really have had to do any work on em, just reliable and they’re both really good looking.

@@sammym.belfastchild You'd think there would be a lot of shareholder value in not wasting a bunch of money on recalls and warranty repairs.
It's not any more complicated than any VVT turbocharged engine.
It's similar to Atkinson cycle engines which are widely used, with the main difference being turbo/supercharging.

Everytime I get gas I have put in between 😢 2-4 ozs of power steering fluid. The mechanic who did the oil said it's due to the age of my van I DONT BELIEVE HIM!
HELP ME OBI WAN SCOTTY
It’s the age of the van.
i want a new vehicle designed with a minimalist mindset so i can work on it myself. i miss my old 1985 S15. wide open area around the engine to work! 4:52
Only pre-condituon I do to my truck is run it for about 5 minutes then my seat and inside is conditioned to my comfort whether it's winter or summer 😂. I still get 1100km out of a full tank with a V8 engine
I would have gone with the Leaf Blower theorie instead, its cheeper and will probably work better.
Lease's aren't that bad and just for business. If you're someone like myself, which many people are, where you work from home... leasing a vehicle is great because while you will be paying forever if you choose to never own... you will still get ahead because of the equity in the vehicle having low mileage and low usage. Additionally, if you choose to keep it after the lease, the equity makes the payment come down a lot too.
I love my 97 Rav4 and 99 Jeep TJ with the 4.0, I can work on them and no car payments. My fancy vehicle is my 2018 Tundra which is still manageable to work on.
Why the haven’t the engineers made the modules water proof?
Even with the complexities aside, if it had another, terrible idea of a wet belt, I’m out. 👍
Great video, Scotty 👍
The only folks that should worry about turbo lag are race car drivers.
I know Gordon Murray is selling multi-million dollar sports cars, but he could be the next Henry Ford if he sold simple, normally-aspirated cars that people could buy ($), and love to drive.
There you go once again blaming a business for ripping people off. How do you know if that guy hasn’t had a couple DUIs, several speeding tickets and or several accidents? You don’t know, but maybe the guy is lucky to get any insurance at all.
For that Silverado, taking out the computer components then cleaning them off in a ultrasonic cleaning unit might work to get the vehicle in good working order again. Drying it out wouldn't be good enough.
